I know, I know. I am probably the last person on earth to see Blue Man Group since it opened in Boston about 64 years ago. It's been around forever! And I am *so* glad that I finally got to see it!! A friend of mine took me for my birthday last month and we had great seats. Front row, right along the left side aisle. Blue men were walking and climbing around me. It was intense. The show itself was great. Everything from the opening warm up to the drumming to the cereal eating (the callbacks for that were my personal favorite). It was interesting to learn that the show that I saw was a combination of previous Blue Man Group shows. Knowing that now I can pick the pieces apart, but not knowing that and watching the show, I never would've known. The show transitioned from piece to piece so easily. I haven't seen a piece of theatre that was this great in a long time. It was nice, lighthearted fun and I thoroughly enjoyed the chaos of it all. read more

I think this show gets hyped way too much. Personally, I didn't find it to be all that entertaining or amusing. After I went to see Blue Man for the first time I was going around telling everyone how great it was and then a friend of mine who had never been asked, "What exactly is the show about?" Uh...I'm not...sure..."Well what do they do then?" Er...they...spit paint onto canvas and catch marshmallows in their mouths? That makes it sound terrible!! But it's not, it's such a good time! Don't waste your time reading descriptions of the show, none of it is going to make sense, probably not even after you actually see it, but go and see it in the mood to have fun and you won't be disappointed. Splurge for the really good seats, I've been twice (I took the friend who asked for the description when she was in town and now she's off expressing her can't-find-the-words-to-explain delight to everyone she knows as well) and each time I looked back and up in the balcony and thought to myself, I am so glad I'm not up there!! Surprisingly good show for first-timers, but I can see how it would get old over multiple views. The first 20 minutes or so had me laughing so hard I was in tears. It's a great treat for out-of-town visitors. Their show is pretty fast paced at the start and then slows down a bit at the end. Spray paint, cereal, marshmallows, pvc pipes ... if I'm not mistaken I think I remember the kitchen sink being in there too! Good times! I wonder how the show at the Venetian in Las Vegas compares. I first saw the Blue Man Group perform almost four years ago, and then saw it again last year. The first time you see it, the show is a lot of fun and really entertaining. All the banging/drumming (music) and the colorful paint, and let's not forget the toilet paper! But I won't get into that. The point is, if you haven't seen it before -- GO! It's a really good time. As would be expected, the second time isn't quite as much fun (the show was pretty much the same), so I probably wouldn't go again. But first first-timers, go buy your tickets! read more

Pros: I was entertained through most of the performance. I am pretty glad that I saw the show. And it was fun. Cons: Probably wasn't worth full price to see. I will not see them again since once was plenty for me. I wasn't a big fan of the waitress coming around to offer overpriced drinks before the show. Taking away that they played on pipes, the music wasn't that impressive. Do they really need a Playbill for this type of performance? This just added to the gimmick. All in all. I would have rather spent my money on something else. I laughed but would have laughed harder watching a good comedy at a movie theater. I don't feel like I had been missing out by not seeing them for the last few decades. Avoid this show. It is not entertaining. Every single part is boring and jokes are bad, we didn't understand the point of the show. It might be OK if you want to bring a 5-10 year old kid on a rainy day but even that, I wouldn't recommend it. First time I wanted to leave after 20min but we stayed the entire show hoping for more and because we paid $120 for two tickets. read more

I've seen Blue Man Group in 6 different cities, and I think Boston is my favorite! Its is the perfect small theatre. You feel part of the production all the time. The cast here is great too. Good for kids 5+ - it can be loud and that would scare younger kids. Go see it! read more

This is the second time we went to see them in 10 years. The first time blew me away with all the interactions and quirky sense of humor things that they do. This time the show had changed but not as much as expected. Even with that being said, I could not help but get sucked into the show, enjoy every aspect of it and had a wonderful time. The changes that they made brought it to the current times but kept in the spirit of the original show which is why it worked so well. We took some friend from Japan to see the show and they loved it as much. such a great show to go and have a good time with! Kudos to the cast and crew, another great performance! read more

The Charles Playhouse Theater is very small. We waited to purchase tickets the night of the show so that we could ask about seat locations and views. We were told that many of the side section seats in the floor were limited view/25% of stage would be view obstructed, but the balcony had no obstruction. We choose seats in the first row balcony on the side. Although we were very close to the stage, I would say AT LEAST 25% of our view was obstructed. In fact, my neck hurt after the performance from trying to look between the railings in the balcony. We paid $50 a seat more for this "unobstructed" view. I truly feel that this dampened our experience and enjoyment of the show. I would highly recommend paying the money to sit in the preferred seating in the front center section. Those guests looked like they were greatly enjoying the show. I have seen this show years ago in Chicago so I know how fun the experience can and should be. read more

This is the second time I have seen the Blue Man Group perform live at a venue. The first time was with some post-college friends when I was 23 years old at the Luxor in Las Vegas. I had a blast it was the best show I have ever seen at the time. The second and more than likely the last time was at the Charles Theater in Boston with my wife and 7 year old daughter. The show was good, but not as great as I remembered it being in Las Vegas during my early twenties. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I am 39 (a few months from 40) and I have seen better shows since I saw the first my first Blur Man show in Vegas and perhaps I was expecting the too much. In any case my daughter thought it was hilarious, then again for her age I wouldn't expect a different response, but for a middle age adult who has been around the block the show may not be worth the money. By the way any seat in the house is good, and don't forget to grab ear plugs, especially if you already have tinnitus. read more

The Blue Men entertained me, that's for sure. Though, admittedly, my attention span was such that I was focusing way more on the band and coming up with schemes in my head as to whom the Blue Men might pick for their next audience participation escapade. Incidentally, I was wrong every time. Essentially, if you like lanky painted dudes in a glorified drum circle and you appreciate an off-kilter kind of humor in performance, you will enjoy your visit with the Blue Men. A tip, however: you will see signs all around the theatre stating that taking pictures is prohibited. Fellow Yelpers, I cannot stress enough that they sure aren't messing around with that. I sat stage right, up a bunch of rows, tucked away from the main drag where I thought things were pretty inconspicuous. I decided that I just had to get a picture or two of the Blue Men, and so I made use of my phone camera. A few moments later, a lady tapped me on the shoulder, took my phone out of my hands, and walked away. Five minutes later, the same person tapped me on the same shoulder and returned my phone to me, without saying a word. I looked in my photo album and sure enough, all the Blue Man pictures had been deleted. Just those. Pretty crazy, considering that she had to first unlock the phone, find where the photos are stored, pick the correct album, sort through them, and then delete. But then again, I was listening to music created by a bunch of guys painted head to toe in blue. I suppose the bizarre is just par for the course. read more

I know every one else loves this show but I think it's a little odd. The jokes are clever but it takes way too long to get to the punchlines in my opinion. I was in the balcony and found myself a little bored when the blue men entered the audience looking for a volunteer. It took way too long. This show seems geared more towards the junior high crowd. The 15 min dance song at the end was probably the strangest part. Among other things, four giant balls fall from the ceiling and the audience pushes them around like beach balls. This was fine and all but when the song about butts is over, the balls are attached to the edge of the balcony. So then I had a giant ball in my way and had a hard time seeing the encores. read more

I got a student rush tickets, and I think those were really well spent $30! I had a blast and when I left I wanted to see more! The performance is a lot more than just blue men, drums and paint, and I was very positively surprised. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone, especially families with children of all ages. My advice is to not seat in the balcony, as you might not be able to enjoy some parts as much as the rest of the audience (when the blue men come in the audience). Also, if you want a free painting or other little souvenir of the show, or if you want to have a chance to be on stage, sit in the middle part of the ground floor, not the sides. If you want to watch but avoid getting paint on you, sit on the side aisles, they still give a good view. read more

The theater (Charles Playhouse) is HORRIBLE!!!! We paid HUNDREDS of dollars for my wife and I to take our 3 kids here for our son's birthday. We sat in the balcony, on the side. We could not see a single thing! At all. Nothing. My wife and I could barely make out the top right side of the stage...and my kids could see absolutely nothing. At one point my kids stood up so they could at least see a little bit. (We were not blocking anybody - there was nobody behind us). The woman working there came and told us we had to sit down! Why??? So basically we threw away hundreds of dollars for absolutely NOTHING!!! read more

Unbelievably amazing show! If you haven't been to a Blue Man Group Show it's a combination of a rock concert, a symphony, an art installation, a comedy show, and a rave all mixed into one. It's a stunning show and the Charles Playhouse in Boston is a small enough venue to make the whole experience an intimate and special one. read more

See it once. If I had only seen BMG once, I would have rated it 4 stars, but since I saw it twice, I'm dropping it a star. I saw it in 2006, then again in 2009...and seeing it the second time was not worth it. I was bored to tears. BUT SEE IT ONCE!!! And it's the same exact show as in Vegas. So, if you've seen it in Vegas, don't expect something different here. My fiance went to see Blue Man group on New Years eve and were incredibly pleasantly surprised. We got the half price tickets through BosTix, which was a nice money saver. The line was very quick to get in and the girl at the ticket booth found our tickets very quickly. The bathrooms at the Charles Playhouse leave a little to be desired, as there are two stalls for the pre-show rush... but that's what you get for an older theater. Not a huge deal. We were ushered in very efficiently we were impressed by the great seats that we got through BosTix. We were on one of the side rows, but still very close to the stage. The seats were comfortable but I imagine a little cramped if you're a bit... larger boned. The show was way more than I expected. Never a dull moment, tons of laughs and tons of unexpected stuff. I must say I'm a little partial because I was pulled on stage and got the participate with the Blue Men, which was hilarious, embarrassing, and overall a great way to end the year. The end was by far the best part and I haven't had that fun since I was in my early 20s! After the show ended, it was quick and easy to get out and get going. We did have to pay $20 for parking which is a bummer - but by no means a reflection of the show. If you get a chance, see this show! Very worth it. read more
