I've never been here for an evening or weekend game event, but I love stopping by with my significant other to try out the games. The staff members aren't too pushy, and seem to really enjoy helping people find board games that will help their customers unplug and reconnect. Blue Highway has knowledgeable staff, a great selection, and is right next to several coffee shops where you can pull out your most recent purchase and take off. (My recommendation for a coffee shop game: Fluxx. Good for two players and up, but a little random for some. Pick it up if you just want a little light fun.) read more

This is my favorite FLGS in Seattle. Having been to almost every game shop multiple times, I can say with confidence that if I have the choice of shop I drive to Queen Anne and visit here. Why I feel like they are a step above the rest, the shop is clean, the atmosphere doesn't make you feel unwelcome or a complete nerd while you just want to scope out the new arrivals and the staff is fun. I really enjoy talking with them about new arrivals and games I haven't been able to get my hands on. They do have a punch card incentive program and I am hesitant to say, I have filled out several! Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, fantastic selection of games to try out. I was really pleasantly surprised by the selection of games available to play; it was larger and better organized than many other game cafes I've been to. In general, Blue Highway also felt friendlier than other cafes in the area. We asked if there was food available for purchase, and were told that while they only offer a few little snacks and candy bars, we'd be welcome to bring outside food in with us if we wanted to. So I'm new to the area and happened across Blue Highway Games while I was doing my laundry at the weird laundromat down the street. I'll admit right away that I'm a gamer (board games only though!) so I'm going to go gaga over just about any game store (i.e. I'm an easy sell). Now I had already been to the other game store in Ballard, and I have to say I like Blue Highway Games better. I think I prefer the cozy friendly vibe that Blue Highway has over the mega mart vibe that the other place has. Also the staff were very helpful and knew every game I was trying to find ("um yeah I'm looking for the game with squirrels and nuts... do you know it?") and they had a great selection of other fun gaming activities (puzzles, crosswords, mind games, etc.) which I appreciated because I like those things too. I ended up going back there for their cider tasting night, which was really fun (warning get there early or you won't get a table! We barely squeezed in.) and it was nice that you could hang out and drink in a place that wasn't a bar and still had a lively environment. It's a great alternative to the bar scene. Also since they have a pretty extensive library of games, we were never bored with what game to play. Bottom Line: Even though it seems small, this friendly neighborhood game store is a treasure trove for any gamer passing through the area. read more

Blue Highway Games is keen. I keep finding myself needing this place. We were invited to play some board games at a friend's house and I didn't want to be stuck playing some strange eclectic sushi making game again. You know, the game where you go around the board trying to catch fresh ingredients to make Sushi that you can't eat? So I stopped in to grab a board game and walked out happy. Came back later for dice and another time to grab some poker chips and I also got some cool trivia card games to take on an airplane. They have board games, card games, puzzles, role-playing games, novelty puzzle toys and the like, as well as a few miniatures and settings. They also have a snazzy area where you can play those games. Yes, if you were having a lazy Sunday, you and your friends could walk in, buy a board game and waltz over to the table and play it. They have something for everyone. If you are a cat loving old lady who wants a board game for your grandchildren, they got you covered. If you are a pencil and paper role-playing master of the dungeon, they got you covered. I fact if your mom kicks you out of her house because she needs the table for a book club and your game is suddenly vagrant, they even have tables you can use for free! Tournaments on Friday cost a little bit and the winner gets some of the money! I was going to give it 4 stars because they don't have enough miniatures IMO, but I had to bump it up because they are basically the only gaming store for miles. They also do a cool thing where they take down your name (or maybe the name of your favorite bikini clad amazon super hero with golden deception inducing lasso - they don't check IDs) and you can give your name at every purchase. Enough purchases and you get money off a later purchase. So if you purchase lots of game stuffs, be sure to take advantage. read more

I'm lucky enough to live within walking distance of this game store. The staff is great, the selection is robust, and the space is welcoming. Recently I was looking for a D&D manual and I assumed I would not find it there, so I called a few other places first. Foolish! Nobody had it but Blue Highway did. The owners are gamers. They go to the big Spielmesse in Essen, Germany. I've run into one of them at GenCon. If there is something you want, they probably have it or can get it for you. They are also active supporters of local schools, and run some great weekly events for kids. read more

What a great game store! Found this place by accident walking around Queen Anne, and was nicely surprised by the huge selection of games. Very well organized, with a large area for playing games (downstairs at the back, as well as upstairs), and everything was pretty easy to find. I really enjoy the vast variety of games Blue Highway offers. There's much, much more than your average Monopoly, Life, or Sorry! available here. I've never even heard of most of these games, which gives me the opportunity to enjoy something new. However... Every time I go into the store, the cashiers are extremely rude and dismissive. For example, there were two cashiers behind the register, one talking to a young boy about playing cards, the other comparing board games with a customer. Neither of them attempted to make eye contact with me or offer a "I'll be with you in a moment." When one of them finally decided to ring me up there was no greeting or apology for the wait. Additionally, they have a "discount card" that allows you to spend $200 (a stamp for every $10 spent) at the store in exchange for $20 off the next purchase. I spent $17 on two items that were on sale, and the cashier refused to give me a stamp because I bought them on sale. That doesn't seem right. read more

Scott, Brian, and staff do an excellent job of bringing out the game player in all of us. I always find great gifts in a range of prices with the help of who ever is at the counter. I learn not only what the games are, but what they work on- strategy, logic, math facts, reasoning, verbal articulation, building, etc. The games I've purchased for my family have brought us together around the table. I am in awe at the quality of this place. I went with my grandparents, and for literally $0 grabbed a game off of the library shelf, and played it. The game was so great that we decided to purchase it, which leads to the next amazing thing about it. On the second story they have a huge collection of used games and we got a game which was in great condition for $8, while the retail is $35. It was a great experience, and we got an amazing deal. love, love, love this place! This has turned into the place we go most weekend nights as it is one of the warmest, friendliest, and fun places in the city. Blue Highway has the most extensive board game library I've ever come across and there are always new games to try and plenty of places to sit around and play.
