I came here with a group of friends and had a fantastic time. This is such a cute spot in Queen Anne with a great collection of games. The staff here is easily the best I've ever encountered, so incredibly hospitable and warm. We got drinks and snacks for our tickets and loved being able to just sit back and really enjoy the cozy space. Everything is incredibly well-maintained, right down to the notably clean restroom. Oh my god. I think it's one if it's kind. It's a place wheee you can buy every board game you can think of and you can sit and play. They have beautiful game library and they allow you to lend the game to play there. The sitting area is super cozy and you can bring your own coffee. Awesome selection! Hard to believe we've lived in Queen Anne for a few years now but haven't made it here yet. My partner wanted to come in to find D&D starter materials, and the employee working was extremely knowledgeable. While browsing, I also came across an updated version of Mille Bornes, which I grew up playing! I've looked for it before and it's hard to find. We were super stoked to find it! This place has a cool game library with lots of tables that you can reserve for groups looking to play (proof of vaccination and masks required). Apparently, they also usually have alcoholic beverages but at the moment (October 2021) they don't offer these because they are waiting on a new liquor license. We'll have to come back when they have one, since they are open to 11 here and I could see lots of late night epic group game nights in the near future! read more

This is one of the coolest stores I have ever been to. They have pretty much every board game you could imagine. They also have jigsaw puzzles, sudoku, and more! All of the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. They were able to answer all of my questions and recommend some great games. Let me help you get to know it a little better. + Friday Night Meet Up Games - open to everyone and anyone! Come by and play games with access to a giant lending library. Tom starts it off with an intro and people can play with whomever. There's a good amount of table space so you just grab a group, a game, a table, and play. They also do a prize for "Friendliest Gamer" for the year which goes to the person who has played games with the most number of unique individuals (they keep track so you don't have to) and you get a store credit prize at the end of the year. + Tournaments - they host monthly tourneys with a featured game. Sign up to play for fun or for the plaque on the wall. If you win for the month, your name is engraved on a nameplate plaque and if you win the most touneys in the year, you get a much bigger nameplate plaque. You also score points just for entering the tourneys and there's some nominal reward at the end if you collect a set number of points. + The Game of the Month goes on sale for 20% off which also happens to be the tournament game. So buy it for cheap, practice it and enter the tourney! (I was luckily able to find Hadara for super cheap here since being a new game, there were no deals to be found elsewhere!) + Food - BH does serve bottled alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. They also have a wide variety of sweet and salty snacks - definitely comes in handy on late night games. + USED games on Sale - Being a game store, of course this place has a giant collection of board games and accessories. Come check out all that has come out. But what I find even more amazing is their giant collection of USED games upstairs. Yes, they have an upstairs! Go up there and check out their wall of used games for incredible prices. You will seriously not be able to find better prices! I found an excellent edition of Pictomania for $10! + Sell back your old games or games you don't want. You can check with the store for a "drop off time" where you can deliver some of the games you no longer want to sell to the store. They will check out your stash and give you a quote - you can take cash or store credit with the store credit valuing a bit more. Are you in awe of this place yet? Probably the only good thing about my Seattle visit so far. We are staying in the Queen Anne area and found this among the highly recommended things to do. We visited some bars and restaurants our first night here which completely sucked. We tried a few more places downtown which also sucked. So finally we decided to opt for something more low-key and ended up here. Upon walking in you will see that there are a ton of board games to choose from! There are tables upstairs and downstairs, and you are allowed to bring outside food/drinks. We stumbled upon one of the meetups which was fun. Still didn't get many "friendly" vibes from most of the locals but the staff was very nice to us. Ended up playing a few games and bought one as a souvenir. read more

It's conveniently located around food and drink areas so you can easily grab some lunch/dinner and then come here to hang. The people here are super nice and helpful. Like many, I got really into puzzles during the pandemic. Blue Highway has tons! If you're looking for a new game, or a jigsaw puzzle, this is your place. TL/DR: Incredible staff! This is a great shop with a great selection of games and gaming accessories, but the people are even better. On January 2nd, they really went out of their way for me. I was trying to get to work using Zipcar, and had 2 different cars with dead batteries {Zipcar got me a credit, but still...} In trying to catch a bus to work, I left a bag with a straw fedora I inherited from my grandfather on the bench at the bus stop close to Blue Highway. After trying to get a hold of other nearby businesses, Jennifer answered the phone here. Instead of saying too bad, or asking if I had ever been a customer, she agreed to go to the bus stop and grab the bag with my hat. If the staff here will do something like that for someone a complete stranger on the phone, imagine how well they treat you in the store! She had no idea that my husband worked with them to get some Dr. Who "Time of the Daleks" expansion packs, or that we have bought some dice from them. I want to give them more trade and referrals just to make sure they know how grateful I am! read more

Our family loves Blue Highway Games. They have a huge selection and an amazing staff. In back is a massive 'game library' where you can try out most any game in the store. Needless to say it's great for kids and you can try out games to see if your family will like them. We've even been to birthday parties here. If you say something like "I like the games 'Whoonu' and 'Apples to Apples', what do you recommend?" They'll say, "Well you could try the new game called 'Consensus', or maybe 'Attribute.'" And then they'll have both available for you to try. The employees will spend an amazingly generous amount of time teaching you how to play each game if you'd like. We often go to Game Nights (on Friday and Saturday nights) where we learn new games, like 'Santiago', 'Aton', 'Ticket to Ride', 'Stone Age', 'Lascaux', 'Caylus' etc etc. I don't need to keep mentioning games, but B.Highway has most all the games that are in print. They offer to order them for you if they are out and will call you when the game comes in. They have a 'frequent buyer punch card' that I've filled up, so I get a $20 credit next time I go there. If only I could buy a bigger house for all the games I've bought at Blue Highway Games. read more

With all the other board game fanatics in town, I decided to finally start building up my own collection. And having heard such good things about Blue Highway, I made my way in one slightly rainy Saturday afternoon, not quite knowing what to expect. I was certainly a bit surprised when I noticed that patrons of the store came from all sorts of demographics (and not just board game geeks), with a fair number of families wandering about picking up things for the holidays. So on to what they actually have here: a massive collection of board, card, and other games, incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff that can provide relevant suggestions based on your interests, and a two-level playing area to try out a large number of games in their library. Now, be aware that all the games here are sold at retail price, so if you know exactly what you want, and are looking for a discount, you're better off shopping at places like Amazon. That said, they do have a rewards program here that equates to a 10% discount: you get one point for every $10 you spend (usually rounded up), and every 20 points lands you a $20 off your next purchase. So, you get a $20 discount every $200 you end up spending, which roughly amounts to 6-8 games. A few other miscellaneous notes: they take Amex, and the downstairs area is fairly wheelchair accessible, minus the throngs of people that you may have to maneuver through. read more

Memories! Ohhh, the memories... Alot of these games I've not seen since I was "weee" tall; 4, 5, 6, etc... So, when I saw them I pictured myself as my chubby-cheeked, short, shy-er, former self. Amazing store. I didn't want to leave without getting atleast one game. So, I narrowed it down to 3: Locale, Literati, and the latest Cranium. I asked for a recommendation from an employee and he said "hey we could probably add those 2 to The Library, then we could open them and you can have a look." ---Sweet! So, we cracked open the first 2 and I checked them out. Seemed like great games. However, I settled on Cranium for reasons you can ask me. Huge variety... and they can even catalog your discount card, if you'd like. I've only played a game like these once in like 6 years, atleast. I was happy. They are well categorized/organized so i love explore here to find some new games i haven't played. The staffs are always nice and explains things very well when you ask, but don't interrupt and intrusively force you to buy things. Cozy inside, and just overall, a great local game store. We love this place. I had actually visited several times before understanding they have a game library where you can spend as long as you want trying out the goods before you commit. Anyone who has spent some ridiculous sum of money on a dud of a board game will understand why this rocks so much. If that weren't enough, they have a point system that saves you $20 once you hit 20 points, and they sell a variety of soft & hard beverages to enjoy while you play. Genius. You have my word. My nerd word. This is a great place to get your geek on. This place a great small business. In a town with constant grey skies, what a great idea to open up an old fashioned game store (i.e. as in board games, baby) with a free game library that you can play to your hearts content, sample and test out possible games to take home. Blue Highway is a small business with a laid back vibe where you can come and check out new, original and often obscure games and take them into the back of the store to the ten plus gaming tables (in the upstairs loft area, or downstairs on the main floor) and simply play. This is about as risk free as a rainy afternoon gets. Why watch a movie, let your kids turn on your iPhone, or zone out on an Xbox when instead you can sit down together and play and old fashioned board game. Maybe even have an actual conversation! While it may be free, the generosity and community spirit will inspire some shopping. We typically end up leaving each time with a new unique game for the next kids birthday party (my daughter is five) that we can actually attest to being fun. Not the garden variety birthday gift. The one time we played and left without buying anything, and the owners were equally nice and friendly. I'll tell you a magic trick you can do here. Look at the dice. Ta-dah: Dudes behind the counter will immediately be really irritated. Always. I've lived by this place for about 8 years, and every single time I or someone I'm with has gone in and bought dice, they act like you have appeared to ruin their lives. It's only when you buy dice. They fold their arms, huff, "ignore" you, bang things about, sigh, are weirdly stiff during check out. It's DIFFICULT to make such a quick transaction so painful, but they manage. If you buy magic cards, a book, a game, it's fine, none of this happens. It's only the dice that infuriates them. I have no idea what their weird attitude problem is with the dice. They hate when people look at the dice or buy the dice. I rarely go in because at first I thought they were racist or something. But it's the dice. They hate the dice. If you guys hate dice so much, don't sell dice, JFC. read more

This shop is wonderful. I was able to stop in with my teenage kids and play games. The first one we picked out was a dud and we were struggling to have fun. Staff member Haley S. listened well to what we were looking for and introduced us to a game called Coup. We'd never played, so she took the time to explain it well. Immediately we started having fun and played several rounds. When I went to buy the game, it was out of stock, but we bought a few others because the shop had been so friendly and inviting. My boyfriend and I like to play board/card games with friends. We have stopped by Blue Highway Games a few times for games and we are usually not disappointed! They have games for all ages here. There are kiddie games but there are a lot if strategy games for adults too. We usually ask the guys and gals that work here what games they recommend. Their prices are retail though so if you are looking for a deal per se I don't think you can find it here. There is a cool area in the back with open board games for you to try out. There are also tables out for people to play games. Games that I have seen here include: munchkin, pandemic, small world, Bang, Carcassonne, Fluxx, etc. and much more. However they charge you $0.05 for a paper bag so if that is an issue, go bagless or bring your own bag! read more

Fantastic game store. Finally a game store that is devoted to good games (Settlers, Carcassonne etc). This store knows who they are and what they offer. They are serious about fun. So much so that they have lots of cozy wood tables in the back and upstairs for free game play. You can test drive any of the games in the store. They will even open one up if they don't have it open already. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and they just love games. This is a welcome addition to the Queen Anne Ave. which has been overtaken by chain coffee shops and restaurants.
