We happened across this place while we were looking for a spot to look at Legos, and quite a spot it was defined! They have a pretty awesome Lego selection that includes many newer sets as well as some that are retired. It sounds like they have a lot of sets that come in on a regular basis and are able to tell you if something will become available. They also have quite a selection of games, both educational and fun, as well as lots of science sorts of projects. The parking lot is rather small, but the place doesn't seem like it's often super busy and there is street parking nearby. A worthy spot to check out for all things fun and educational! read more

Math 'n' Stuff is a hidden gem for educational toys for all age groups. I love the exceptionally curated selection of Haba, Smartmax, Picasso blocks and various other European brands that are hard to find in person. I appreciate the "outstanding" customer service by the owner Mikaela (hope I'm spelling the name correctly) and the amazing staff consisting of Kathy, Isaac and Chris who know me by name and go above and beyond for any toy, Lego, puzzle or book need for my family. What a gem! Picked up quarantine homeschool supplies and was delighted to discover this place. Always drove by (Snappy Dragon across the street yum!) but never knew the treasures held inside. They have the biggest selection of Usborne books, and a full selection of Brain Quest books and cards. Toys for babies and kids. Mad Libs. And customer points for decent discounts. I love Math n Stuff! I've been a customer for years. They have been taking their COVID precautions seriously and have been providing some of the best entertainment of 2020. Support local business-they are so awesome and knowledgeable! I have learned about Splendor, Wingspan, Azul, Ticket to Ride, Exploding Kittens...those are just a few. Their taste in jigsaw puzzles is excellent as well, varieties from 100 pieces to more than 1000! Math n' Stuff is one of the best Board Game stores in the Seattle area, without question. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and game rentals are a great way to try out a game that you aren't sure of without a great deal of risk. Also- this is a really great place to shop for birthday presents for small children. I took a five year old there to pick out a present for a friend of his, and he found a friction powered (wind up) flashlight that looked like a monkey, and this turned out to be a huge hit at the party later in the day. From the friendly staff who is readily available to help with any question, the well stocked shelves and the variety of products I'm just as excited to go to this store as my 5 year old. We truly appreciate the rental game section. As a city-dweller with a small living space we just can't bring home every game, so getting to try them out and return them is such a treat. If I could give them 10 stars, I would. What can I say? This place is the best! My kids just wanna go there and if we let them, they go to Math n stuff everyday. Great customer service and friendly and knowledgeable staff are there to help you with anything! Bonus point is, if you happen to be looking for retired Lego set, they might have it. We scored so many (too many!!) Star wars figure sets (we got like 7 at once...) and they are truly awesome. You can rent games, and you know, you can get your kids some math work books (they have more than math workbooks) and get some bribing nick knacks! It might work :) read more

Being diagnosed with mathematical dyslexia can leave you out of certain experiences. The joy of balancing a check-book... jokes about Pi.... that sort of thing. That said, I'm pretty sure math is great? People seem to build a lot of amazing things with it. In-fact I'm almost completely positive that math is responsible all of the things I love about civilization? Why is it then, that when I drove past this store I had the same reaction I have to a gun shop? I never want to go in and I never want to be around anything inside it. This realization was quickly followed by the BIG TIME heebeegeebee's!! UPDATE: I was driving by and felt bad about reviewing this store without going in. I like to face my fears and this was no exception. I went in and WOW! It's actually a fun game and toy store with an educational edge. I bought some 12 sided Rock, Scissors, Paper dice that cracked me up and marked one more fear off my list. They do need to change the name. read more

I teach 3rd and 4th grade and I love math. I love teaching math, and I love finding new, innovative ways to get students excited about math. I also love supporting local businesses. However, the level of service I've received here has been atrocious. Every time I have come in (on different days and at different times, so I know it's not always the same employees), staff members either ignore me or spend the entire time talking with each other. When staffers do deign to speak with me, it's almost always in a condescending tone. Where's the love? If I worked there, I'd be nerding out the entire time, loving to introduce people to exciting math goodies. Is that too much to expect? The merchandise is good, but it always seems like it's been on the shelf for an eternity. If I'm going to pay full price for a product, I don't want the packaging to be completely faded or the books to be nicked/dogeared. If you're looking for obscure math manipulatives that you can't find at your local teacher store, though, chances are they have it. I live nearby, so I go here if I need something for class the next day. Otherwise, I'm far more tempted to just order online. read more

I come here for board games for myself and math/science gifts for my niece. Yay for nerdy board games that I get to enjoy (ok I own up to the fact that I kick ass in Settlers of Catan)! My niece is in 1st grade...she's learning all about money, addition/subtraction, and is fiercely interested in anything science related...especially astronomy. I've been able to find fake money to help her work on that, a little game calculator called Math Shark that spits out math problems and you have to answer in a short period of time, and a glow in the dark planet that shows what the current constellations are in the sky based on your geographic region. Awesome. I don't care that I feel a bit nerdy for being so excited every time I'm in there...heck, I'm going to own up to my nerdiness and celebrate it. This is the store that finally got me off my keister to get a Yelp account. We had promised our son a lego set that he really wanted. We ordered it from a large internet retailer (who will remain nameless but it starts with an "A" and has six letters). He had me check the tracking status several times and was positively giddy when the package arrived. Except for when he opened it, because the wrong item had been shipped. A Meltdown ensued. It was 7:00 PM and I started to call toy stores in North Seattle. When I called Math 'n' Stuff, they had already been closed for an hour. Nonetheless, they picked up the phone, said they had the item, and offered to let me pick it up even though they were closed. And they couldn't have been nicer when I came in to pick it up. At a time of crisis, it felt like pulling a rabbit out of a hat. I had a quick look around and it is clearly much more to this store than just math. They have a really nice selection of toys and games. This is the type of local business that is easy to support. read more

You can get dice of all kinds, travel size games, origami paper and books, tango, puzzles and a ton more. Great even for birthday presents because it is such a fun store. Support local businesses! This place is amazing :) They have the greatest selection of toys, puzzles, workbooks, legos etc for teaching kids how to learn about anything and everything. If education is the name of your game, I definitely recommend stopping by this store. Even though their selection is great, I had to give it 4 stars because their customer service is less than stellar. I have no problem with paying higher prices, especially when it comes to my son's education. A simple hello when I walk in the door goes a long way. I love coming here. I used their services often as a Math Specialist for Seattle Schools. Just reading the reviews I am asurprised that someone is upset with their customer service. It is a small store adn can get pretty busy. At times You have to look around for yourself. No one can get your curriculum for you! Although it was my job and it is the job of many Math Coaches to have a lot of curriculum available tohelp teachers. I still get materials for my young family members here when needed. read more

I walk in and am immediately overwhelmed by the plethora of math stuff. And science stuff. And puzzles, games, Legos, solar system models, magnetic poetry, workbooks, math books... It's stuffed with stuff and it's easy to overlook the education in all the fun. I wander the aisles, each and every one, for over an hour, accumulating stuff in my arms that I have to have for homeschooling my kids, and just for fun. Then I realize that in over an hour no one has spoken to me. I see a staff person putting something on a shelf. She makes eye contact. I smile, wanting to compliment the store. There is no return smile. There is nothing. I go to checkout. Behind the counter there is no smile. No response to friendly chit chat. While this store is chock full of fabulous educational and fun stuff at very reasonable prices, the customer service sucks. The truth is that just about everything here is available online at various places, but I went here because I didn't want to wait (and pay) for shipping and because I like to support independent stores. I will go back again because there are a few more things I'd like to buy and maybe they were having an "off" day. If the atmosphere is just as chilly next time, the stars will go down. Update 9/20 - very different experience this time with a helpful, friendly, chatty clerk and I walked out with another armload of stuff, including a Rubik's cube, do it yourself mobile of the solar system, math books, and TRIOPOLY! Just like Monopoly only on 3 LEVELS!! And you build cities! Even if you don't want educational stuff, this place has the BEST board games. An entire wall full. read more

What a freakin' awesome store! When shopping for kids (and kids-at-heart), I always try to buy games/toys/puzzles/etc with which they'll have fun, but will also allow them to learn something/figure something out/use their imagination, etc. That describes pretty much everything in this store. Last week, we visited on Small Business Saturday and bought an activity box for the special six-month-old in our lives. Told me there was 6 packs in mtg prerelease pack when there was only 5. When I went back in after I had realized I was lied to, they said there was nothing they could do. Won't be going back after being a regular for years. Local ownership; longtime, dedicated staff, incredibly well-informed about the products and how they might work for individual kids; everything from learning toys and games to workbooks for summer or year-round practice to dice and spinning tops; reasonable prices and no obvious inventory problems. With their annex a few blocks north, you can walk by on the weekends and see kids of all ages playing Magic and similar games, or you can host a birthday party for your awesomely geeky offspring. I bought a jigsaw puzzle here for my mom. They have a lot of fun stuff -- board games, science kits, dice, and of course lots of math workbooks, games, and stuff for teachers. It seems like a fun store to browse in, but there were some negatives as well: The building smelled really bad. I don't know if it was a one time thing or not, but it was a paper-mill kind of smell that really made me feel sick and I didn't browse as much as I would have liked to. Checkout was a very slow process. Normally I'm pretty patient, but this was a bit much. It probably took almost 5 minutes to buy one item. read more
