Came here with my friends for a Sunday dinner. In general, it met my expectation. Quite a good place for sushi. My friend told me the chef is a Japanese, adding some authenticity to it, right? Three of us had Hwe Dup bap as a friend recommended. It's kind of a fusion dish, mixing Japanese and Korean style. You can call it Korean Sushi Bowl. Just like a raw fish bibimbap (A Korean dish) . Sushi here was better than expected. To be honest, the only negative was the rice was not quite the best but maybe that was only on the visit I was there. Roll menu is quite large and when we asked they prepared a couple things off-menu. Probably the only place open on sunday night and stayed full through most of our visit. I gave it a 2 star because the food wasn't bad... but the service was horrible, straight SHIT!! We had to ask to order our food, we had to ask for refills. She never once came to check on us.. There was a hair in my food I had to flag her down to get her to remake it. I've never been to a place with such bad service.. Very disappointed. This place was the family's "Plan B" if Wasabees was closed, but since they are closed for good we occasionally come here. The sushi is a bit overpriced here in my experience but tasty nonetheless. The selection is also good with a fair bit of non-sushi items. I have had 90% of the menu over the years, and have not eaten anything that I would not order again. Service has always been courteous. The thing that I puzzles me is how we are charged by the cup when ordering tea. I have never seen that in all the Japanese places that I have eaten at. read more

They have tons to choose from and it's delicious and fresh. The prices are very reasonable. Incredibly reasonable, actually. I go here all the time and the sushi is fantastic. The reason I give three stars is because there is this one waitress that works there that is rude. She doesn't seem to get that her job is to serve the customer. I've had her sass me one too many times for wanting to look at the menu longer or if I have questions about the menu. Only the best sushi in Whatcom County, if not the whole PNW! We waited a long time to try them because being in a strip mall on Samish didn't seem a likely location for good sushi. But OH BABY!! they make wonderful sushi! The hamachi, sake and unagi nigiri are my favorites. The bento boxes are lovely too. Teriyaki, california roll, and gyoza, good portions, nice presentation and good price. Their specialty rolls are also done well...good flavor and texture contrasts. We found this place by chance, luck, good Yelping.. One of those. We needed to stop for dinner on a Monday night at 6:30, not long after crossing the border heading home. Pulled off that exit at random and looked on Yelp for something close by. This place was about half full so we got seated immediately. The only thing in this place I was put off by was the dim lighting. The wait staff was friendly and just the right amount of attentive. Ok so I first went here about 3 years ago & thought "Wow this is some of the best sushi I might have ever had!" fast forward to now & it is hands down my favorite spot for tasty, perfectly executed & fresh Sushi satisfaction! I have never been to Japan but was raised on fresh sashimi in Hawaii and I have had the privilege of eating at some very high-end upscale sushi spots (Nobu & Matsuhisa in Aspen etc.) However I put Blue Fin at the top of my list if I have to choose 1 spot to eat my last sushi meal in this life. The owner is super meticulous about quality, freshness, execution and service. I like that very much because I am picky & demanding when I spend good money for food to put in my mouth. Although the prices aren't the most I've ever spent for sushi, this spot is not exactly cheap either. Having said that, I put it as an exceptional value for the product that is on offer. Worth every c-note I drop here! Can't wait to go there again soon... Wish I had some RIGHT NOW! Absolutely a must visit at least once, sometimes twice, every time I'm in town. Best Tempura ever! My sister and I are from California. We came to Blue Fin with my cousin and she gave us a few recommendations. Being from California, we have a lot of AYCE restaurants, so when I saw that they served the Japanese scallops instead of the baby scallops without breaking the bank, I was in heaven. It was delicious. We ordered the crazy horse and Rosanna rolls and a few others. No regrets. There was also a cucumber vinegar appetizer as well that was crazy good.
