I was in the area picking up some meats in the area and was like I need good bread for some sandwiches. Did a quick Yelp search, and found Blue Door Bakery and let's just say, I'm glad I did! They bake everything the morning before they open, so everything we got was super hot and fresh. I went with a sourdough loaf, their garden focaccia, and their best selling morning bun. The morning bun was delicious, and I don't even like morning pastries. Great with a coffee. The sourdough bread was as good as the reviews said they were. We made multiple sandwiches at home with them and with their house made vinaigrette (definitely order a side of this), it elevated the at-home sandwiches to another level. The garden focaccia was solid but not my favorite, it did go well with the pasta we made though. I wish they sold their sandwich focaccia bread as a standalone though. I was chatting with some other people in line and they saying how they go for their sandwiches because their vinaigrette and focaccia bread was so good, so definitely plan on ordering a sandwich next time around! They have the best morning buns my husband and I have ever eaten! Their other sweet treats are also delicious! Most may go for their pastries but their sandwiches are also so worth trying out! Honestly try anything and everything! We've never had a bad experience here. It's a in and out situation ! Which is fine, get your stuff to go, and go walk around the town. Small little bakery with delicious food. No seating inside. Just a small counter. They open at 9am and close at 3pm or until evening is sold out. There was a line at 9am and we decided to come back at 10am. We were told by a local to get their morning buns and deli sandwiches. I wish we went to 9am because when we came back, they were all sold out of the morning buns! We didn't get their sandwiches because we were heading to lunch afterwards. Unfortunately they are closed the next day (on Sundays and Mondays). We did get their focaccia to go and it was so delicious. We also got their chocolate chip cookies and bran muffin. My family has immigrated/ lived in Jackson for generations from the balkans and I went to a Serbian summer camp in this town. There is always a line when they open and can run out of things quick. My manager treated us to lunch the other day and picked up sandwiches from Blue Door Bakery. Wowwwww! I am not exaggerating when I say this was hand down the BEST sandwich I have everrrrr had! Omg! It was a turkey sandwich on fresh baked focaccia bread, with arugula and an amazing spread.... It came with balsamic dressing to dip it in. Came at noon to get a loaf of the amazing sourdough bread that I read about. $10 later, I have a crusty loaf wrapped in its bag to take home and slice up. Around 2pm, I get home and realized I mistook crusty for rock-hard. I cut it in half and see I have a massive hole that has pushed the bread/material towards the crust, rendering the entire loaf useless. The various methods i use to revive sourdough that has gone stale were useless as I basically had a crust with a thick layer of inedible gluten goop inside. $10 in the garbage read more

WOW!!! I am so excited to have discovered this bakery in downtown Jackson. We walked out our hotel to this incredible smell and followed it to the bakery. It was the freshly baked focaccia and it was seriously so delicious. Hands down the best I've ever had. It's a small place and you often see a line but don't let that deter you. It's just tiny inside and can't accommodate a bunch of people but th it does move fast and worth the wait. Whenever I'm in town I always grab a loaf of their sourdough and their balsamic dressing which usually doesn't even make it back home as I literally tear off pieces of it and dip it into the dressing. Since we were staying at the National Hotel getting there early was no problem - we were just across the street. The bakery has kind of an Old World feel to it. The owner greets you from the doorway and you select items on display. He procures them, you pay and you are on your way! Very Covid friendly. We had: Mushroom Savory Croissant, Ham Croissant, Sourdough Warm Bread, Cinnamon Bun and an Apple Cinnamon Pastry. Everything was amazingly delicious! The croissants were light, flaky and buttery. The Sourdough bread, still warm, was wonderful and perfect for lunch. On the sweet side, the cinnamon bun was to die for (we should've bought two!) and the Apple Cinnamon Pastry could not be beat. CASH ONLY! 2.5 stars. Located in a historic building within a quaint little downtown street dating back to the Civil War. Maybe I came on a slow morning but there was plenty of parking out front, no lines and only 3 pastry options to choose from. Was not really pleased to see the sandwiches being made w no gloves. Hopefully the lady collecting cash does not handle food. Sandwiches were only okay...the bread was a bit on the chewier side and heavy on the mayo. The chocolate chip cookie was massive and good but not great...only came here to grab sandwiches to picnic before heading to the Black Chasm Caves. We started coming to Jackson, CA about five years ago when we started attending an annual family gathering there. The first year we went, I saw the Blue Door Bakery and wanted to give it a try because I love trying different bakeries. When I went inside, they had sold out for the day. I said, no problem, I'll come back tomorrow but unfortunately they are closed on Sundays so I wasn't able to try anything on that trip. Each year after that, I arrived when the bakery was either closed or sold out. Now, after five years, I was determined to try this bakery. We stayed overnight Friday and on Saturday morning, I got up and was at the bakery door 15 minutes prior to their opening. We were the first at the door so I was certain this was the year I was going to try this bakery. When the door opened, we were the first person at the counter. The bakery smelled like fresh baked goods and everything looked great. Since we have been trying so long to try this place, we ordered an embarrassing amount of food. We ordered two morning buns, a bran muffin, an apple tart, a loaf of sourdough, and a container of balsamic dipping sauce. While we were at the counter, the nice owner said she had to go take the chocolate chip cookies out of the oven so we added that to the order. We paid for our order (cash only) and went out to the car for our feast (there is no seating area in the bakery). After our first bite of the morning bun, we were convinced this was the best baked good we ever had. The morning bun has a crispy texture outside and the inside is perfect. We tried the bran muffin next and it was also excellent but in my opinion, the morning bun beats it out in the competition. I'm not a fan of fruit tarts so my wife ate that and she said that was also amazing. I did try a bit of the tart's pastry and that was flaky and delicious but I didn't try the fruit filling. Since the chocolate chip cookie had just come out of the oven and hadn't had a chance to set yet, I did not try that until later and it was also excellent with a nice crispness around the outside edge. We did not try the sourdough bread until we got back to our hotel room and that was also amazing. We sat in the room dipping sourdough into our balsamic dip and I think it was the best bread I'd ever had. The balsamic dip was also fantastic. After eating this ridiculous amount of baked goods, we went back into town so my wife could go through the antique stores which were closed when we went to the bakery. I was inside a store talking to a merchant when my wife came in to see if I had any cash on me. She said the bakery still had morning buns and she needed to get another one (that is how good they were). When she went into the bakery, the owner suggested she get me one of their sandwiches but we already had plans for dinner and we did not want to eat that much. I now regret that I did not get their Caprese sandwich so I guess that will have to wait until next time. We did not finish all the sourdough the first day and the next day it was just as fresh and delicious as when we bought it. This is not a typical bakery with a huge selection of items. They have a limited number of items but what they do have is perfect. I find a lot of bakeries are mediocre, at best, but the Blue Door Bakery is amazing. I can't wait for next years gathering but I'm now hoping we make another trip to Jackson before that so we can get back to the bakery. read more

Just about every town around here has a bakery, and most of them are very good. If you don't like one, it's easy to go to another. I chuckle when I read a negative review on a restaurant or bakery, and it's "because we don't have options or don't know better". l lived in New York City for 16 years and got baked goods there and in other big cities. Everyone in my family rates morning buns (cinnamon rolls) against those made by our grandma some 50 years ago. The morning buns at Blue Door Bakery are the first I've tasted where I felt I was back in my grandmas kitchen.
