Donuts were fresh and tasty. Not like some that have that heavy oil taste from overcooking.

Ive been a local my entire life in amador, star donuts is the go to place for donuts, although lately the quality is diminishing. For starters I've had friends who worked at multiple locations have a terrible time, which they only hire women, one of those friends was a person of color and would be treated differently then all the other workers and ended up getting slowly taken off the schedule. The other issue is they never restock. I came a couple weeks ago and asked for a roast beef sandwich, they are out. So I ask for pastrami, they are out. I ask for grilled chicken, guess what, they are out. I thought it mightve been because it was later in the day, but ever time I've tried again they NEVER have it restocked. I dont understand how you run a business but treat workers like that, and never have anything. I forgot to mention the donut crumble is just old donuts that didnt sell, so they crush them up and leave them in a bucket for rats to get to (true story from the inside, maybe run a business right and these reviews wont happen, dont let me get started on all the corners EVERY restaurant out here cuts.) read more

***GO TO TACO BELL FOR A CINNABON COFFEE FOR 2.50**** it's better anyway I always love the staff but the owner is smoking something if they think they think they can charge you 4.50 for weak coffee. Went for the first time in about six months to pick up a dozen donuts. It's really sad how downhill this place has gone. The donuts use to be so much more fluffy and tasted fresher. The dozen I got were 7 glazed and the rest sprinkled. I microwaved them to make them softer otherwise they seemed dry and stale. Paid $26. For a dozen! That's so ridiculous. I get inflation and all, but seriously for ingredients to make donuts...huge profit someone is making. I'm just gonna hit up Safeway for their $11.99 dozen next time. Tastes about the same anyway. Absolute garbage service. I ordered one plain ham and cheese, one with jalapeno, one Berry croissant, and one sprinkled donut. Somehow this was an impossible feat for the cashier to understand. At the end I said I was missing something and she started rolling her eyes and I kept trying to repeat my order and she just started smiling and looking annoyed. She would start taking away the correct items as if she was going to throw them away and I finally just got so frustrated had to leave. Will never come to this place again read more

I went here today for the first time... in passing by the other day I saw they made sandwiches and was looking forward to trying one. I saw they made smoked salmon sandwiches on the window outside. I asked the girl for a bagel with Lox and she said looked at me confused. I said , smoked salmon? You have that right? She says , no and that she doesn't know what I'm talking about. Okayyyy...I choose turkey. Then I was like , no forget that , I came for smoked salmon I KNOW they have it. I ask again.... your window shows a picture of smoked salmon... you don't have that? Suddenly she does. She proceeds to make my sandwich, has no idea of what the ingredients are to go on it. Now I'm getting nervous. Then... I see they sell Thai tea and Thai coffee.. I order the Thai coffee... after what seems like forever she presents me with my drink. I'm in a hurry so I just pay and leave. The sandwich was good, no complaints there but my coffee was in no way, shape or form "Thai coffee" , it was watered down iced coffee. I bring it back and I see that she has cleared all the donuts out of the donut case ( they're still supposed to be open for another hour I believe) I tell the girl that what she made me is not Thai coffee. She shrugs and says , that's the way it's supposed to be. I ask her, so this is Thai coffee? She says yes. WTH?!?! I'm really irritated. You have a great concept going with being a donut shop and offering sandwiches too but you really need to have employees that know what "everything" is . I have only been there a handful of times, experience and the donuts are ok. But my last experience pretty much ruined it for me. I went in a couple of mornings ago to get some donut holes and the woman was standing behind the "fresh donut rack" coughing and then blowing her nose, she walked up front through her tissue away and opened the donut case and asked "what can I get for you today?" I was so upset and disgusted. I said "are you going to wash your hands!?" She just looked at me and walked to the back. I looked at the man standing to the left stocking donut boxes and said "after that, I'm good." And walked out. Cold and flu season is here and even if it weren't, that is absolutely gross. I work as a server and am constantly washing my hands. I will be going to raleys or Safeway from now on. They where gloves. read more

We had just accidentally driven by the donut shop in Pine Grove, which is hard to see coming down the hill, and didn't want to turn around. So I consulted the trusty Google and it led me to Star Donuts just outside downtown Jackson in a strip mall with a KFC and some other restaurants. It was 11am on a Sunday, so there weren't a huge number of donuts left. However, we were still able to fill our donut craving. I got a jelly-filled; he got a pineapple pastry and a plain. The jelly-filled donuts are filled on the spot with your choice of three fillings: lemon, raspberry, and Bavarian cream. I opted for the raspberry, which was pleasantly tart and seeded, just the way I like it. It wasn't overly filled, either, so I didn't make a mess eating in the car. Win! 4 stars just for the donuts - these are not the best donuts I've ever had, although they are fresh, fluffy, and tasty. A full additional star for super friendly service. The shopkeeper slipped in some donut holes into our bag so adroitly that we didn't even notice at the time. I'd be a regular if I lived near Jackson for sure. read more

If I could leave no stars I would trust me! I have been there twice now. First time going everything was well until I ordered a sandwich, she sighed and looked irritated keep in mind no one was in there but me, she didn't ask what bread and ended but putting it on a bagel, when I wanted a croissant but I didn't say anything thinking they were out. Long story short i wanted a bacon egg and cheese, she handed me a egg and cheese bagel. A gal baking in the back came out rings me up, very nice smile and attitude by the way, I ask do you have plain croissant and she said yes!! I say I wanted my sandwich on a croissant! She tells the gal with pink gauges she almost rolls her eyes at us, I let them know everything is ok just ask me next time. In conclusion if she doesn't want to make sandwiches she needs to let her boss/manger etc. On top of that the audacity of the gal with pink gauges the second time I was in there, the baker gal was ringing someone up and the pink gauged girl sees me and walks to the back I was so mad!!! You could tell the baker was embarrassed because of the nonstop apologizes, I am so mad and ask so is she not gonna help me, baker turns red, walks back there and says come help the customer. You could tell there was tension between them. The gal is pissed with the baker ‍ I asked wheres the manager, she responds she'll be in later. Ive tried contacting the store but nothing, they need to educate there staff in customer service & leave there personal problems at home!! read more

The first thing I noticed about this little donut shop just off 88: no filled donuts in the case. The second thing I noticed: Cream- and jelly-pumps on the counter, for on-demand filling. I'm convinced. Want a chocolate-frosted donut with jelly? Sold. Want maple-frosted with cream? They can do that. Don't miss the 50-pound sacks of SPEED-E-GLAZE stacked, concrete-mix style, in the back room. This place goes through a LOT of sugar. Christmas day and nothing is open...except this little gem! We got several items including ham and cheese croissants (delicious!), jelly filled, custard filled, maple bacon bars and more. The coffee wasn't bad either. The attendant was friendly and patient, and wished us a Happy Merry Christmas as we left. She even threw in an extra donut in. I stopped by this donut shop to get a couple of donuts for myself before I headed home. I purchased a maple bar and an old fashion glaze. Both were very fresh and yummy! The girl who helped me greeted me immediately upon entering the store, and was very nice. The place is small, but there are some tables and chairs if you want to sit down. If I ever want donuts again while in Jackson, I will be sure to return here! read more

I stop here from time to time, and get a dozen doughnuts for the guys at work. Everyone likes them, and the staff is always very nice!

Don't know why this place hasn't been reviewed as it's been here a long time. Had to swear off doughnuts a while back, but when I was still eating them, I liked the ones at this little shop because they are really fresh. And if you like the filled ones, which I did, they do that while you wait so that they are never soggy. It's the best doughnut shop I know of in the county. The only problem I noticed was that sometimes they didn't have decaf coffee. read more
