We did a whale watching tour with this outfit and they are great. Captain Kai along with first mate Kiaaina and bartender Alex provided great service and were very friendly. Kai is chill and funny, obviously a very experienced captain, and also incredibly knowledgeable about marine life (did you know you can tell a whale's age by their ear wax? Now you do, and so do I!). The catamaran is comfortable, snacks and drinks were provided, and we did manage to see a whale spuming. It was a beautiful day to be on the ocean and we'd do this tour again in a heartbeat. When we decided on visiting Kauai, we knew we wanted to do a Na Pali Coast tour. We had sailed by the Na Pali Coast on our departure from Kauai on our Norwegian cruise eons ago, but wanted to see it up close and personal this time. We decided on Blue Dolphin Charters based on a few variables - the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor, the price point, and the itinerary. What a great choice it was! We opted for the Na Pali Coast snorkel and tour, which departed from their office at 8am in the morning. The tour includes water, juices, coffee, breakfast, lunch, and an open bar during lunch. It also includes use of their snorkeling gear. We started off with a snorkel - they drop you off in the middle of the ocean, which is a brand new experience for me. The crew were very helpful and they made sure everyone was comfortable and in the right gear. They even have prescription snorkel goggles!! This was a huge plus for me because I thought I wouldn't get to snorkel this trip. They even have noodles for those that aren't comfortable enough in the water in just a life jacket. After snorkeling, they serve you breakfast, which consists of fresh fruit and giant cinnamon buns. Yum! On our way to the Na Pali Coast, a fellow passenger got sick and we had to turn back. This meant we wouldn't make it up to Na Pali today. They gave us a few options - reschedule, get 50% of our money back, or stay on the boat and head to the South Shore for more snorkeling. Since we were leaving the next day, we opted to stay on the boat and do some more snorkeling. This meant that we, along with about 8 or so other passengers, had the boat all to ourselves! We ended up snorkeling at another spot known for sea turtle sightings. I got to swim with a sea turtle. It was an experience of a lifetime. We also ran into some dolphins, which was super exciting. Our captain actually turned the boat around to follow them. Lunch was a very nice spread of meats and cheeses to make sandwiches, veggies with dip, salad, and mac/potato salad. We had so much food since about 70% of the boat had gotten off. The crew was asking if we wanted to take some food back with us! My wife, two teenagers, and I went on the 5.5 hour cruise around the west side of Kauai to the Napali coast and had a great time with Captain Chris and the crew. The boat was large, had two restrooms, and wasn't overcrowded. Dolphins, sea turtles, goats on the side of the mountain were all seen as well as a good hour or so of snorkeling in clear water. Lunch was provided, and was cold cut sandwiches, fresh fruit, soft drinks, etc. The crew also serves as bartenders - alcohol is served once stopped and includes wine, beer, and mai-tais but please note once you start drinking, you can't get back in the water. The weather was perfect, and we learned a lot about Kauai as well as saw some breathtaking scenery. I would highly recommend this charter trip. read more

I paid by card so I'm unsure if cash is accepted. I called on a Monday and was able to make a reservation for the Wednesday morning session. I had to check in at 7 am on Wednesday at 4353 Waialo Rd. Eleele, HI, 96705, (Port Allen), in order to make the morning departure. I'm so happy I found this place as this was the highlight of my trip to Kauai. The scenery of the tour was so beautiful and to top it off I saw so many dolphins! The dolphins were so amazing! I signed up for the uncertified scuba diving and was happy and comfortable with the politeness and knowledgeable staff. The tour included breakfast, lunch, and drinks so I was comfortable throughout the entire boat ride. I definitely recommend this tour. We came on this trip to see the best view of the Napali coastline. I get motion sickness and took medication but still towards the end was really feeling it. The boat ride was a bit rough at times but they knew how to handle the waves very well. They even showed us hidden things that most of us would not have seen by ourselves. First let me say the crew was wonderful. What was supposed to be a 4 hour sunset dinner cruise ended up being 5 hours because our wonderful captain stopped a few times to let us watch the magnificant whales and babies. What a show! The down side for us is that while they can not control the weather, I feel like they should have cancelled due to the wind. The wind was horrific, rocking the boat quite violently at times. It was nearly impossible to move about the boat because it just wasn't safe in my opinion. I know you can't predict the rain in Hawaii but you are well aware of the 26 mile an hour winds causing 6 ft+ swells. That made it impossible to enjoy the meal and drinks. The food was delicious, however, my husband could not eat or drink because he was sick to his stomach. They came around once for drink serviice but it was too rough for the staff to try to serve drinks. So if you wanted a drink you had to go downstairs and get one. The sunset part was literally 5 minutes. The captain turned the boat around and the staff served 1 glass of champagne and toasted and then started the boat again to head to port. Overall, very disappointing. The NaPalii coast was beautiful, but again so rough it was hard to take a picture. We were wet and cold. Not fun at all. This is not an inexpensive trip. We were happy to spend the money for the experience that was advertised. We did not get our money's worth at all due to the wind. You couldn't enjoy the food, or the drinks or take pictures and then on top of all of that, you ended up freezing because you're soaking wet. Please cancel next time, not fair to make it all about the money. It was really NOT a good experience. Sorry, I hate to write bad reviews but people should know. Our catamaran sunset cruise to view the grand Na Pali coast through blue dolphin charters was one of our best experiences in Kauai, HI. Although the cruise started of with so much joy and lovely smiles everywhere on the catamaran, it got rough at the end, just before we reached our destination where the catamaran takes a u turn. The views are breath taking, to add to the view we were gifted a perfect rainbow over the Na Pali coast. It was unlike anything we had ever seen. Just soothes the eyes and the soul. Our crew consisting of Captain Nate and his two pretty mates was so amazing. We were so thankful to have them in those choppy waters. Captain Nate, an excellent captain and a very good guide, has a ton of very useful information that I would have never found on the net (trust me, I googled Kauai like a zombie before we went on the trip and I had not heard atleast half the information he shared with us on the cruise) His mates were our saving angels. They are on their toes through out the cruise. I never saw them stop for a minute in all those 4 hours. They were incredible, their energy not one bit less than what it was, when we started. Amazing ladies. I'm so bummed, I forgot their names. Sorry ladies! But thank you very very much for being there with us. We opted for vegetarian food and we were so happy to see, they had arranged vegetarian just for the 3 of us, of a group of 50. Highly recommend blue dolphin charters! read more

Although I noticed competitors with better reviews and more expensive prices, I'm glad I chose Blue Dolphin! We spoke with the company the day before and day of to confirm the weather and visibility would be worthwhile. They were very informative of weather, wind conditions and waves. They even checked out the radar to confirm weather conditions. Weather: As it is the winter, we were very lucky to have minimal swells as well as clear sunny skies as sometimes the storms and waves in the winter can be unfavorable. Be wary that the wind and waves are more intense on the boat ride back to the harbor. Service: All of the crew was friendly, but Zach took time to personally get to know and speak to each guest. He was also helpful in assisting us with carrying drinks and food up the stairs to the top deck as well as taking our trash and checking in frequently. Food: We chose the pulled pork sandwiches, which had plentiful amounts of meat. The meal included a side of coleslaw, pineapple and chips. They had unlimited juices/soda and an open bar the entire way back to the harbor. They gave us MaiTais to start, which were delicious. Experience: We snorkeled and saw lots of corral and various fish. We also had dolphins swim along the boat. In the distance we saw whale's water spouts and fins. The Nepali Coast was beautiful and the captain explained various sites. I'd say this tour is amazing as long as the weather is clear and the waves aren't too wild. This review is for Napali/Niihau Snorkeling tour. We had a great time. Thank you, Captain Joe and the Crews, Ruby, J-Sea, and KAloha for your excellent service. This is one of their longest tours and time spent on the ship. It is a 7 + hrs tour. It takes about 2 hrs boat ride from Port Allen to Niihaul where we snorkeling. We stopped at the "Vertical Awareness" point and snorkeled in that area. It was fun. The drop-off of the under-the-water cliff was pretty impressive. I take that this must be an awesome place for Scuba diving. As far as snorkeling, it was not the best that I have done. Please take that with a grain of salt. It was still beautiful but as far as marines life, we didn't see too much. Keep in mind, it's an open ocean so on a different day, you may be visited by different marine life forms. The reason I included this is that Blue Dolphin also offers different tours to another snorkeling spot that may not require 2 hrs long boat ride to Niihau that may not be suitable for people with motion sickness, such as myself. I was so scared of being seasick after reading many reviews. I know Captain Joe said many times that it was one of the best/smoothest sailing conditions we could have asked for but I know he took good care of the sail and avoided the waves as much as possible. He also was able to carefully maneuver the ship for the best photo-op. It was a miracle that I survived the trip without being sick and was able to enjoy the wonderful breakfast and meals they provided. Sea-sickness prep that works for me was 1. Taking Dramamine (less drowsy) the night before, 1 hrs before the sail and another one mid-way through the trip. 2. over-hydrated myself the day before and stay hydrated throughout the day of the trip. 3. Sea Sickness Acupressure bands 4. eat a light breakfast and keep your eyes on the horizon. 5. Do my best to not think about being sick and enjoy the ride. 6. Sit in the middle section of the boat, not the upper deck, outside to enjoy the fresh air. 7. Listen to the crews. They are very experienced and keep me at ease. Sorry, I ranted about the sea sickness because I wish I had some guidance. If you have motion sickness, you'd understand the fear. But it shouldn't prevent us from enjoying our lives and experiences. Napali Coast was AWESOME! I think this is probably the best way to appreciate the coastal view. I wish we had a little more time to linger. The overall experience was amazing. The crews were totally awesome. They were so helpful, friendly, funny and so attentive. The Cinnamon roll was one of the yummiest I have had. Lunch was delicious. There were plenty of drinks (sodas and juices). Water is frequently served by the crews and upon requests, which are plenty but they are not bottled water. For me, it is totally fine but if you are particular about water, bring your bottle of water. As described on their website, it is a barefoot tour which means you leave your sandals at the port right before aboard the ship. I was totally fine without the flip-flops. My boyfriend and I booked the sunset dinner cruise last minute and I am SO glad we did. From the very beginning, the staff was incredibly attentive and personable. They were constantly making sure we were taken care of, serving water/soda, a snack before dinner and then they opened up the bar had wine/beer/mixed drinks. The dinner was absolutely delicious, we went back for seconds! Naya, Brian and captain chad made it so much fun! Not to mention the views were absolutely BREATHTAKING, they even took the boat underneath a waterfall and offered to take pictures of your group, along with taking the time to educate us on the island's history. Listen to me... I am the captain now.. no but seriously listen. My wife and I planned on doing a helicopter tour of the Na'Pali coast. Unfortunately it was cancelled due to fog. Last minute we booked a sunset dinner cruise instead. This was an amazing journey. Captain Chad seemed very non social at first honestly, but he really was trying to ensure everyone was listening and paying attention. He went over a few rules of his boat and ensured that all he (and his crew) was trying to do was keep us safe, and have a good time. First tip, LISTEN TO CAPTAIN CHAD! Without going into too much detail, the captain and his crew were nothing short of amazing. Chad was very informative and would speak when explaining areas of the island and had so much history. His crew was so helpful. They would bring you drinks, chips, pretzels candy, and when it was time, bring you food if you wanted. I urge you, if you feel sick, or uncomfortable, or just need help moving around the boat... ASK THEM. They are so great at this. We also say dolphins (seriously like 50-60) a few whales, and sea turtles. Bonus, Chad turned to my wife and I during the ride back, and asked us where we are from etc etc. He then got really friendly with us and was cracking jokes and we were having fun. Then all of a sudden, he was singing karaoke basically. Multiple folks on the boat were using his mic and singing. He played music but interrupted and narrated to share what we were seeing with history etc. The crew, Stacy and Nicole were great. Helping passengers up and down steps, bringing beverages, serving dinner and handling the boating equipment like pros. Evans play list for music was spot on too. The food was fine (not great, but fine...you are on a catamaran with no chef or galley so it's heated buffet). I give the day a 10. I'm in an amazingly beautiful paradise with good people...blessed. This was easily the highlight of my week in Kauai. Moments into the tour we saw a huge pod of dolphins. The scenery was beyond beautiful, with the comedian of a captain, Nate, giving us information about the landmarks we passed by. Nate's jokes and information helped create a fun environment on board. He tripled as captain, comedian and DJ, crushing it at all three. J-Sea, one of the crew members on our catamaran, was AMAZING. She was so much fun. She engaged with all of the different passengers, stopping to get to know peoples names and where they are from. She brought a very fun energy with her on the boat. Get this girl a raise. Luke, another crew member, was also a lot of fun and answered questions for us along the way. I would have loved to stay and hang with the crew all night!! They were fun and also clearly knew what they were doing. I felt completely safe the entire ride. Last but not least, the food and drinks were great. read more

This is the tour company to see the Na Pali coast with! We went out today with Captain Joe and crew and it was a wonderful experience! They were attentive and kind and I felt 100% safe with them. The conditions were good today, so we were quite lucky. They found the best snorkeling spot, gave us excellent stories as we were traveling, and kept everyone entertained. I didn't end up snorkeling with the rest of the group, but I certainly was not bored. I had a little extra time to chat with the captain and crew. The rest of my party had an excellent snorkeling experience and saw a plethora of aquatic life. I will certainly come back again for a tour with them and will bring friends and family! We came here during Christmas break and did the Na Pali coast excursion. I absolutely loved it! But some others in my group would beg to differ, so hear me out. We had a group of 2 seniors (60+), 3 adults, and 2 12-year-olds. The excursion is long, 5-6 hours and in the winter, it was very rocky. We set sail around 7am and didn't get off the boat until almost 1pm. It took about 30 minutes to get to the snorkel spot. They had comfortable snorkel gear, and there were plenty of beautiful fish. We spotted one turtle coming up for air but did not see any while snorkeling. The BEST part of the entire excursion was when the spinner dolphins swam near us while snorkeling. Then, to top it off, they swam RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUT BOAT for 5 minutes before we set sail for the Na Pali coast. It was amazing seeing a dozen dolphins right in front. After snorkeling, it was about an hour of rocky sea-sickness inducing sailing. We made it to the beautiful Na Pali Coast! The lush, multicolored, multi textured, multilayered, coast line was beyond words. However, it came at the cost of several people getting sea sick. It seems to happen often as the staff was quick and helpful with cleaning up s/p hurling events. Lunch included sandwiches, fruit, salad, and cookies. Nothin to write home about but they did also have an open bar! I had some wine (nothing fancy) but most people in my group abstained as the boat was already making them feel hungover :) Finally, an hour trip back to shore filled with whale watching! The staff did a great job of pointing out whales that were breeching! Overall, I loved it! Obviously, each individual excursion will be different. Not all will see turtles, dolphins, whales, AND the Na Pali coast (we were so lucky), but the staff definitely try their best. For those who get sea sick, it's a matter of weighing the adventure versus the very good chance that you will hurl. But if that's not a big deal, go for it!! It's not everyday you're in Kauai!! read more

The sunset cruise with Blue Dolphin was truly outstanding! The crew; Captain Elia, Captain Cole, Rob, and Nicole were top notch and not only were they entertaining and resourceful throughout the cruise, they cared a lot about our safety, too. The views are one of a kind. It's hard to capture the beauty through an iPhone lens, but it is truly breathtaking. We even got a special treat in that we did see dolphins! The dolphins are only guaranteed on the morning cruises, but Captain Elia spotted them during our sunset cruise. Truly outstanding!! The food provided was delicious; probably some of the best chicken I've ever had. I would highly recommend anyone visiting Kauai to go on a Blue Dolphin cruise. As an FYI- the drinks and food are served about mid-way through the cruise. I didn't fully research this and my husband tends to get hangry, so it was a risky move on my behalf.
