I'm familiar with the music venue/restaurant setup. You'd struggle to find a spot that does both quite as well as this place. The food is really tasty and creative as well. A handful of items on the menu I've never seen anywhere else. The music is just as thoughtful bringing bands to Tupelo that are nationally touring, but still under the radar. Plenty great beer on tap as well. What a great spot to eat, drink, and hear something new, and considering their taste, I'll bet at least one of the three will be your new favorite. read more

My favorite bar in my hometown! Adam & all the staff at Blue Canoe make our weekly experience so great. The atmosphere is amazing & the food is even better! A restaurant known for their killer burgers & blueberry donut bread pudding, they also offer an amazing beer list as well as great cocktails! Perhaps the best part about this little dive bar is the music that has been through there. The owner does an impeccable job at booking too-notch acts. I love how he has transformed this little town into a music loving, local supporting, thriving big-little city! It really is something to sit back & watch him do what he does best: rep yo hood. Yum!!! We needed to find a place to eat after a 10 hour trip. The pot roast was served on a cornbread waffle it was amazing! The boys had the smash burger it is made with different meats all high grades and delish bun. It was so big my son couldn't get his mouth around it. This NOT a place to bring kids. But as an adult it is great. The waiter was on top of what we needed and patiently explained menu items to us. We ordered a variety of items, fried black eye peas, fried onion rings, crack fries, smash sloppy Joe and both bread puddings. The peas had a nice crunch with the perfect flavoring of bacon and onion. The crack fries had a sausage gravy that was lightly spicy. The bread puddings were delicious. We frequent the Tupelo area and wanted to try something different. We've noticed this place is always busy so we figured "What the hay?" And gave it a try. When we went in, we were very impressed with the ambiance. It looks to be a great late night/weekend hangout. The food was great as well. My wife and I were in Tupelo doing some shopping. We were hungry and found the Blue Canoe online. Checked out the menu and decided to give it a try. It was loud inside and the folks at the bar were having a good time. The band was getting everything tuned in for the evening performance. Once the band had everything set up they proceeded to do a test run with one song and sounded very good. The beer menu was loaded with at least 50 choices. The food menu was simple. I had the Pork and Greens on our waiters (Denzel) recommendation and Susan had the shrimp tacos. She said hers was a little dry but had good flavor. I tried one of her shrimp and it was tasty. My pork and greens consisted of baked pork which was very tender. The greens were tender and had a nice spicy flavor. The grits were grits (LOL). We will come back and try the burgers. Every time the wait staff would walk by with burgers and fries my mouth would water. The place is busy and Denzel took very good care of us and was attentive to us and very friendly. The wait time on our food was minimal. I read a few not so positive reviews but I wouldn't let those keep you away. The place is a bar with way above average bar food. It's a tad cramped and very busy and a little loud. Give it a try. The next time we're in Tupelo we will try the burgers and fries. Cheers!! read more

I met some friends here when I was home for the holidays on a Monday night. It was packed, maybe because of the MNF Steelers/Niners game, and the service definitely suffered for it. They were out of the beer I requested, but I didn't find out until about ten minutes after I ordered it. Took another ten minutes to get my second choice to my table. I ordered the chicken waffle sandwich for which I had high hopes. The chicken was cold, the waffle was cold, the syrup was cold. The waffles were incredibly dry. I didn't want to send it out to be warned up as I figured it would take at least ten minutes and the waffle would only dry out more. I believe the syrup was supposed to be bourbon infused and while it smelled as such, the taste was not there. Fortunately for the rest of my party, everyone else enjoyed their warm and tasty meals and I supplemented my unfortunate dinner with yummy fries I stole of a friend's plate. I would probably try the place out again just for the interesting menu and the great beer list, but my experience wasn't the best the first time around. read more

If you are allergic to high fat foods, loud noises, wait personnel that are busy and may not take the time to cater to your sensitivities..Then you likely need to go down the street to one of those mall options. But when I visit Tupleo I try to make a point of longingly gazing upon the massive wall of draft pulls located at this establishment. Anyone that fries black eyed peas and puts them in a mason jar is like some kind of Southern Willy Wonka. They also support other fine Tupelo culinary establishments through the tasty Smash Burger - bacon from the Neon Pig nearby. This lemon pepper must be a Mississippi thing, none they less they were awesome meaty and big. Not pigeon wings. Bailey was awesome, courteous, polite, prompt. And knowledgable. This place may look like hole in wall, NOT. It is laid back southern style. They have a great beer selection. Between what's on tap and in bottle enough to make, making a decision a bit tough. Also had pork and greens based on recommendation of local patron. Never had it before. Always open to trying something new! I enjoyed it. It is always fun trying the local fare. We went on what was probably an off-night, a Tuesday, as this place looks like it could probably rock pretty hard on the weekends with its patio. Good regional (plus) draft beer selection and a menu with a creative take on Southern food. We had fried avocado wedges that featured a garnish that included crawfish among other things. My dinner was a fried chicken breast panini-pressed between two waffles with an 'au jus' dip of bourbon-infused maple syrup. Server was friendly and kept the drinks coming. We were fall-color-cruising the Natchez Trace, over-nighting in Tupelo on a Wednesday, and were shocked to discover (in a town this size) a live music venue with a band playing mid-week. It also happened to be the last night of the 2014 World Series, so we camped out at the Blue Canoe and enjoyed the game while listening to a piano player who was so mad at being dumped by his record company that he played the song he wrote about the experience -- twice. It is obviously very popular with the locals and with good reason. The food is excellent, the beer selection is great ... and you know you're in a well-run place when the owner is out front bussing tables instead of lounging in a back office wishing his wait staff would work harder. Ask for Tammy's section, she's a pro with a grin the size of Elvis's birthplace, but much prettier. read more

I've hung with the Blue Canoe food-wise despite a rough start because they determined to be an oasis in a beer desert. Their early menu items were ambitious but lacked consistency. Now however, their menu is great AND has every beer Adam can get in the area. Last night's Smashburger was cooked perfectly. I'm a hamburger "connoisseur" and this was in my top 5 anywhere! They bring in a lot of well regarded bands from all over. Most aren't my thing (sorry, I'm a jazz snob) but if you like that it is a nice venue. read more

I absolutely love this place. I'll preface by saying I've not seen a band here, but I've read about the quality of talent they book here. That's a bonus. There's a ton of taps and a full cooler of canned and bottled options if beer is your style. (Which mine is) Every time I've been here I've sat at the bar. Miles is a great bartender who keeps your drink full and can carry a conversation if it's not too busy. It usually is busy though. I've had the wings , I've had the Smash burger, but tonight I had the Pork and Greens. Pulled pork, a side of collared greens on a bed of cheesy grits topped with a Carolina vinegar based spicy sauce. To Die For!! It's about as Southern as a meal as you can get. It didn't disappoint.
