I haven't been home in over two years, so I was ecstatic when I stumbled…read moreacross a photo from October 2016 this morning that had Abe's Grill Signature Seasoning in it. For context, I lived in the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia area) for 10 years, and I always looked forward to my roadtrips home to NW Mississippi during that time, which often included stops in Corinth, Mississippi, Huntsville, Alabama, and Chattanooga, Tennessee, along the U.S. Route 72 corridor. That's when I first discovered Abe's Grill. Abe's Grill is an institution in this stretch of the South, known for its history, hearty diner food, colorful decor, stool lunch counter, and mom and pop vibes. I've only eaten at Abe's for breakfast, and I was so impressed with the food and customer service that I bought their signature seasoning mix, which I used pretty frequently when I lived in DC. Considering this review is based on a 10-year old photo, I did do some additional research to ensure the restaurant has survived the test of time. The restaurant continues to be extensively covered and recommended by local and regional news media, online food reviewers, bloggers, Visit Mississippi, and the Only In Your State website.

We stopped in for dinner while doing student orientation for our son at Mississippi State. The…read moreschool offered $10 off at participating restaurants, so we decided to give this one a try. Jacob P. Was our server and he was awesome. He explained the menu to us and gave us feedback on what he would recommend of the options we gave. He was constantly checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We started with the chips and queso. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Just your normal chips and queso. I had the catfish lagniappe and it was SUPERB! I loved the blackened catfish over the grits with the yummy crawfish sauce. The flavor combinations were on point and I throughly enjoyed every single bite! My husband had the Caribbean steak and really loved the flavor of the steak, but it was cooked a little more than the medium he asked for. The flavor made up for it though and he cleaned his plate. We both had the honey bacon brussel sprouts which were very tender and tasty as well. Pro tip, make sure to get all the yummy sauce that settles in the bottom. My son had the chicken Alfredo pasta along with a Caesar salad and he enjoyed his as well. If you're ever in the Starkville area, I highly recommend you give this place a try.

The wings were very dry and tough, especially for the price -- which felt ridiculously high for the quality we received. On the positive side, the fries and okra were actually good, and the Kool-Aid was enjoyable as well. Those were honestly the only things I liked about the meal. For what they charge, the chicken should be much better. I don't mind paying more if the food is worth it, but this just wasn't. Hopefully it was an off day, but based on this visit, I wouldn't order the wings again. This is a totally different experience from when they had the little shack on Lamar and the grille out back.

Anyone…read morewho has ever cooked steak knows the unmistakable foul odor that spoiled beef spills fills the room. ....To not be able to recognize the smell and feel of spoiled/rotten meat raises serious concerns that the those handling the meat have no idea what they are doing. I spoke with the manager, Dynasty, who apologized but directed me to resolve the issue through DoorDash rather than addressing it directly. While I understand third-party ordering policies, serving spoiled food is a food safety issue that should be handled at the restaurant level immediately. This experience was both concerning and unacceptable. I would strongly recommend reviewing food handling and quality control practices to ensure this does not happen again. -Dr. G
