A great shop in a great location! I came in and worked for a short amount of time and enjoyed a cold brew with lunch. I took my laptop out to the patio area to work in the Chicago sunshine, where I promptly dropped my knife on the ground two times, disturbing my fellow patio dwellers. Live and learn, ya know? Anyways - my white fish toast was the perfect start to my time in Chicago and my cold brew was smooth and refreshing. There are a lot of solo workers here sitting at tables for four which makes finding a place to comfortably get settled a little bit difficult. I got a chai latte and it was really flavourful! It's quite a popular spot so it did take a bit longer to get my drink, but despite this there were still lots of spots to sit. Price is pretty steep unfortunately, but I was able to sit and study there for a few hours and it wasn't too hectic, vibes were pretty calm. Will definitely come back! read more

The worker who helped us order was super helpful and patient with us since we had some questions about which ground coffees to bring home. The coffee shop is right in the river and has large floor to ceiling windows that overlook the river walk and the merchandise mart. I loved how bright and airy the coffee shop was (it also helped that it was a wonderful sunny day in November). Extra brownie points were given for the clean and modern aesthetics of the cafe. We came here with a friend from out of town (who was a coffee lover) since they had a variety of coffee options. I did not order coffee, but did share the spinach scramble and the egg and ham croissant with my bf. Both were pretty good, but nothing to rave about. We stopped by here Saturday morning after a workout class for a much needed caffeine boost. Fair warning - this place is pricey and very busy. I've never tried Blue Bottle Coffee before so I can't speak to how this location compares to its counterparts in different states, but my experience was a good one! The coffee shop overlooks the riverwalk and has plentiful indoor and outdoor seating. The esthetic is modern and clean, and the noise level is pretty good for studying/working. I tried the New Orleans styled iced cold brew and it had a nice smooth roasted coffee flavor and is mildly sweet without being too sweet. They're still working out the kinks. I am a Blue Bottle stan & I recognize the brand's clout (been to the ones in SF, NY, LA). Was QUITE jealous of the influencer totes filled with goodies that some micro influencers received. But don't think my jealousy is what's driving this review. Went twice on opening week - one on the second day, and the second time a few days later. Experience 1: Insane lines, but there were people walking around explaining the menu. Overall it was quite nice to look around the gorgeous space, but it took over 30 minutes to receive our drinks. (And on a workday morning, that was tough). The cashier set expectations on the long wait, so it's not the barista or anyone's fault - just a way of life. Pour overs are a labor of love. I get it. Experience 2: Downloaded the app to prevent the long wait times. DO NOT DO THIS. Placed a pick up order FOR 8:00AM, and we did not leave until 8:30. For a mobile order. People who walked in after us, placed an order on prem received their drinks before us. We had to ask for awhile, and it seems like their mobile orders aren't synced to their queue (hence, my average rating). You're paying for the hype - not even mad about the prices. It's standard compared to other specialty roasters. I'd go back if I was not rushing in the mornings before work, or if I somehow get on their microinfluencer list. read more

I love how a blue bottle uses Oatmilk as their default, and their lattes are very smooth and delicious. They are not overly sweet, but you can always add more of the sugar, simple syrup found at the table. They also are very sustainable and have glasses for water available. I love how much natural lighting and seating that they have and it's a perfect place to study. Get work done or just read a book. Only reason I rate it 3 stars is because of the prices & the flavor of the coffee I received. Prices were very high in comparison to coffee shops nearby (that actually had flavor in their coffee). For a plan cup of coffee, I forgot the size, but it came out to $7 with no sugar/no syrups/nothing. That's including tip too though. Their staff is friendly & was able to answer one of my 3 questions, so I thanked them for that. They have study/work areas too, which I thought was real cool and on top of them being right on the river = 3 stars up! As for would I go back? This place is a gem. The breakfast sandwich was delicious and fresh, coffee was superb. My husband was formerly a barista and the staff members were so kind and helpful as I picked out a few things for his Christmas presents. Although Princi has sadly closed (eh - somewhat sadly. Can't mourn a pseudo-Starbucks that much) - I have found another tasty mocha at Blue Bottle. I ordered the largest size, a whopping 12 oz [/s], which was too small for my liking but the right size for my own good. The price was the opposite at $7. I appreciate that swapping dairy milk for oat milk doesn't cost extra, though. The drink itself was delicious - smooth and chocolatey, and not too sweet. This cafe has lots of seating and is quite nice inside. I'd say the sound-level was pretty loud, but not so loud that I would hate working there. It was very crowded on a weekday afternoon - full-to-bursting with athleisure-clad yuppies with airpods. I would go early if you want a good seat. read more

I consider myself a coffee connoisseur. So when I heard about Blue Bottle, I had to go try it. I paid $8.50 for a black cardamom latte, and surprisingly, I don't really regret it. The coffee was strong and smooth, and the cardamom added a nice dimension of flavor that I haven't really tried before. Price was pretty steep, though. Maybe that comes with the branding. I tried to find inside seating here with my friend because it was cold and rainy, but failed to find ANY seating that was not already taken or reserved. They have a variety of drinks, but their menu is not the biggest, which is not a problem. The staff is friendly, the environment is really nice. Prime location on the river, and the glass and light wood space is sunny and feels great. But expect to pay $6-7 for a cup of black coffee. They only do hand pour overs here. The Ethiopian I got last was delicious - touches of cherry, if a bit darker roast than i thought and I could have wished for a bit stronger. Blue bottle is in a top coffee tier for sure, but this isn't the best cup in Chicago and maybe not even the second best. Nearly every day at Dark Matter or Passion House or a number of other locals I can get an equivalent or better for half the price. Still, this place is half lawyers in mismatched suits (or grad students dreaming of the day) who probably don't notice as much. And again, location location. I appreciate the bottle refill station for the environment, and just wish they'd work on getting a bike rack out front. read more

Being from LA, it was nice to find a single Blue Bottle location in Chicago! As an already fan, getting a taste of great coffee on an extended work trip was and is really a highlight. This location offers quite the location/view on top of the great product. For the comments in here giving less than reviews based on a single pour over coffee taste, I invite you to try something more adventurous. Blue Bottle has a nice and fun twist on quite a few options of drinks. They give a fun story for your tastebuds in a slew of adventurous directions. So go off the beaten path. Try something you haven't before tried. I recommend the iced New Orleans with oat milk (my addiction), newly added in a hot version. Also they've got some great options for food and pastries. So, go out there with an open mind and be the adventurous foodie and coffee connoisseur you are! read more

"Overrated" and "overpriced" are words that are used to describe almost every successful coffee chain, and though Blue bottle is certainly overpriced, it has captured the world by storm for a reason and is well worth the hype. The cold brew coffee and iced Nola coffee and even perhaps the matcha are priced pretty similarly to other coffee shops I've been to but the latte is rather absurd - priced at 7 and the iced Nola with orange blossom is something like 7.5. To be quite honest I recoiled in shock at the prices and looked away upon instinct so it's not entirely clear to me what the exact prices are. This does seem like a negative review so far so let's move on to the positives because this genuinely is still a solid 5 stars rating: 1. The iced Nola coffee. I had never heard of new Orleans coffee until now, but the iced Nola coffee makes me want to pack up my suitcase and head over to O'Hare onto the next flight to New Orleans. The difference in this coffee is the chicory root, which makes the coffee ever so slightly richer and earthier and better. It's so smooth and different from any other coffee I've had (minorly, minorly similar to robusta bean iced Vietnamese coffee for the richness although less rich) 2. Design. This blue bottle location, like all other blue bottles, interfaces really well with its environment. With a sizeable patio overlooking the river and large windows allowing natural light to gently filter in, it is so relaxing and fun to sip coffee here. I tried doing research into who designed this coffeeshop for my architect friend and also possibly to see if they share the same designer as the Apple store in the loop (my guess is pelli clarke pelli designed the blue bottle) because they evoke a very similar feeling. Those are my main pros but additional information I have accrued through too many visits: - the kouign aman is lovely, the waffle is pretty good (the chocolate ganache sauce comes on the side and has fruity, dark chocolate taste to it), the banana bread is dry, the coconut demerara scone is delicious -the cold brew is strong, definitely an above average cold brew -the matcha with orange blossom is pretty good if you like the idea of milk left over after eating apple jacks with a mild, earthy aftertaste. It could just be me that thinks that orange blossom has a slight cereal vibe to it though read more

Probably the most beautiful location I have yet to step my foot in. I've been to many BBC locations around LA and Japan; but none compare to the scenic downtown city view of wolf point! I visit Chicago from time to times cuz of close friends so I've dropped by this place quite a few times already. And each time it's been amazing. It has a big space, lots of seating, and a little historical storyline of blue bottle when I first started. And the evolution of the blue bottle dripper. It's one of the busier locations I've been. I love stopping by this coffee shop when I'm walking along the Chicago River! The The coffee shop is surrounded by beautiful skyline views in the Chicago River. When you sit inside the whole wall is windows so you can really enjoy the view. They also have some great outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. The staff here is super nice! The all of the coffee is delicious as well. The New Orleans iced coffee is definitely a great treat to try. I've also tried their drip and macchiato coffees and I've been happy with both of them.
