Spoiler alert: the hype is justified. The family wanted pastries to go with breakfast, so I stopped in and was immediately impressed by the selection. I had the chance to meet the owner, who was incredibly friendly and happy to recommend some of his personal favorites along with the bakery's best sellers. I also love supporting minority-owned businesses, and everything here is baked fresh in-house. For our haul, I grabbed the Cinnamon Bun, Nutella Pistachio Croissant, Butter Croissant, and a Quesito, along with a hot Lilo Latte. Every single item was phenomenal. The pastries were flaky, buttery, fresh, and packed with flavor. The Nutella Pistachio Croissant was especially memorable, and the cinnamon bun was the perfect balance of soft, sweet, and indulgent. Honestly, everything was so good that I'm already considering another visit tomorrow before I leave just to try more items. The bakery itself is small with no seating, but the setup is charming. I loved how the pastries are displayed almost museum-style behind the glass cases, and being able to see directly into the kitchen adds to the experience. ‍ It gives you confidence that everything is being made with care right there on-site. One thing to note: these pastries are not cheap. But they're also not your average bakery pastries. They're generously sized, made with quality ingredients, and absolutely worth the price. Between the portion sizes and the incredible flavor, I left feeling like I got exactly what I paid for. If you're in Jersey City and love pastries, Butter Bakery is a must-visit. Dear reader, I've found that Butter's version is no dupe. This place is a bakery first and the quality of the guava croissants are a testament to that. The pastries are freshly baked and taste like it! On top of that, the owners want nothing less than a stellar experience for their patrons and I appreciate and RESPECT it. I initially had a small issue and someone reached out to me to make it right. The following visit, I was greeted and again, they offered to make it whole. That level of customer service is rare these days and dare I say, I appreciate that even more than the baked goods themselves. Speaking of the baked goods, I came away with THREE of those croissants (see photo). I haven't yet tried the coffee but I understand it's the same options as Hybrid Coffee (a Jersey City standout) so I know I'll be in good hands when I do.

The one saving grace, and the reason I'm giving them three stars instead of less, is their financiers. They remain excellent--moist, nutty, and full of flavor, just as I remembered.
