First of all our waitress, Rachel, was so sweet! The manager also was nice and comped part of our meal. Unfortunately the positives end there. We ordered the following: Clam chowder - Ok, not great. I thought it was too cheesy. Hush puppies - To us, not good at all. Had corn and onions in them but really had no flavor at all. Asked the waitress to take them back. Crab cakes - Again, not good but edible. Chicken Pot Pie - not good at all. Only ate the crust off the top. The base had an odd flavor and the veggies were crunchy. Food: The food was done well. The fried haddock had a really light and crispy batter. The Caesar salad had a good dressing but it was overly dressed in my opinion-I like that they use local in season veggies like watermelon radishes on the salad. The clam chowder had good flavor but was incredibly thick like a gravy. The smoked trout dip was good. Service: The server overall was fine but didn't check in as she should have. We asked for something to be adjusted and she never checked to see if it had been done correctly-it hadn't. One of the few restaurants open until 9:30 at night in downtown Staunton - and what a find! The atmosphere is 'elegantly casual' serving a wide range of seafood and a nice beer/wine menu. Service is friendly and efficient (nice for visitors having never been through the town before). There's a great starter menu as well as nice choices of grilled items, but to our delight, their fish and chips hit all top marks...so much so that we sought out the chef to compliment him as well as ask what his secret was (beer in the batter)! We were fortunate to find street parking (it's still a bit busy downtown), but parking garages are close by. read more

I have become a really picky eater but they hit all the points with high praise!!! The crab cakes were made well with lots of fresh crab. The green beans were yummy as were the potatoes. My meal started with delicious hush puppies! Talk about good!! Since this is a seafood restaurant, I made the mistake by not ordering what they are known for. At any rate, I switched it up and instead of ordering the best crab cakes ever, I ordered the chicken pot pie. When my meal arrived, it looked so good and when I peeled back the crust, the chicken pot pie was the consistency of water. Very thin sauce and no flavor whatsoever. I couldn't eat it. They did offer to replace my meal, which was nice, but I declined. Luckily, I filled up on hush puppies, so I wasn't that hungry anymore. My husband ordered the raw oyster plate. All was fine until he saw a dead fly resting in his oyster...dead, of course . They offered a replacement meal, but he declined too. Something positive... great service and a fantastic atmosphere! We have been eating at Blu Point for couple years now. I have tried the fish and chips, Shrimp and chips and Shrimp and Grits. Food is very good and the service is excellant. The ambiance is great. Edit: 12/28/24 Removed 3 stars. We had the worst Fish and Chips ever and that includes Mrs. Paul's Frozen! Fish was super thin & overcooked. Hard to cut and chewey. Could not finish. Not sure how cook or waitress could not notice. Service was way to slow. Waisted $70.00. Sorry, Can no longer recommend Blu Point! read more

The food here was delicious! My companion and I both had the special soup of the day; Manhattan Clam Chowder- which was delicious! It was loaded with veggies & flavored with tons of clams and some bacon! I had the green salad with a crab cake. The salad was loaded with fresh crisp greens, pea pods, julienne carrots, purple cabbage and the FRESHEST crab cake I've ever had! My companion ordered the wedge salad with blackened haddock. He received a very generous portion of fish, and the salad was perfect. For Staunton, this is a fine seafood joint. We were visiting the area over the weekend and had dinner here one of the nights. It was a mix of fancy restaurant and extremely casual bar. The bar area was full as the Tennessee Alabama game aired on the televisions. Still, we were seated immediately at the bar and were served really well concocted cocktails. The bartenders and servers were knowledgeable and welcoming. Food was decent. They have a list of oysters you can order and samplers if you are feeling that you want your food fried. Most people seem to get the raw bar items (expensive but very fresh), or the fried items (which look terrific). The options for flat fish are a bit thin, but what we tried was fresh and prepared with care. The specials are inflexible. If you want your fish prepared more simply, you're out of luck. What a interesting find. My wife and I were looking for a place to eat while driving home from Asheville NC and we first went to a place that was closed. There were three men sitting out front and they told us about this place. We had crab cakes and they were really good. We would have never stopped here is it wasn't for that chance encounter. I'm not sure what overcame me while in the area, but I had a hankering for good seafood. Not exactly something I expected to really find in an area as removed from the coast as Staunton, tucked up in the mountains. But, I saw this place on Yelp, and decided to give it a try. My fiancee and I popped in for dinner. They were a little busy, and we wound up sitting at the bar to have some drinks while waiting. The bartender was great, and offered very good service, and the drinks were fairly good. I braved an oyster shooter, which is a bloody Mary with Old Bay and an oyster. Oddly, it was the bloody Mary part I didn't care for, but it was well made. We were brought to our table, in a beautiful back room. The entire restaurant has a very relaxed, chill, beachy feel - it feels like an upscale restaurant at one of the beaches. We ordered our food, and our waitress seemed pretty good at this point, but unfortunately, she kind of wandered away and barely came back. We started with an oyster appetizer, and they were good, fresh, and incredibly well shucked. I also ordered the rock fish, which was served in a beautiful butternut squash sauce, with a cup of chowder. My fiancee got a soup and salad. (Also, as a fairly minor thing, half the items on the menu are "market price," since the type of fish or whatever varies a bit. They have a chalk board telling you what the item is, but not the price... it would be nice if they included price there. I feel tacky asking the waitress). After we had finished the oysters, we were left waiting for quite a bit -- no one stopped by to check on us, no one asked if we wanted more drinks, no one even came by to fill up water glasses. Definitely disappointing. After a rather long wait... everything came out at once. Well, mostly. My clam chowder was forgotten, and we had to ask the person who brought out the food (not our waitress, who remained in hiding). Our waitress did wander by tables here or there, but repeated eye contact was ignored. The food, though, just about makes up for it. The rock fish was perfectly cooked, and that sauce was fantastic. Yum. The clam chowder was excellent, too, though it wasn't served with any crackers of any kind. My fiancee's lobster bisque was a bit of a disappointment -- she laughed that there was so little lobster in it, it was basically tomato soup with a hint of lobster. They didn't have an tables when they came in, but they said we could sit at the bar and order a drink while we waited for our table, which would be ready in about 10-15 minutes. We sit down at the bar, which was busy, and place our drink order. While we're there, I overhear the host saying that they'll text when a table is ready to another customer. I walked over because no one had taken my number and we had already been waiting for about 15 minutes. They were able to seat us immediately, which I greatly appreciated. When we got to our table, they gave us the drink tab and then a server came by to take our order. We ordered a dozen oysters, which were solid. Then I ordered the lobster bisque and salad for my entree and my partner ordered a cup of clam chowder and the rockfish special. While all of the food was good, there was a large delay between the oysters and main courses. My partner did not get his soup until after we reminded a server, who was not our own, that he ordered the soup. It should have been served in between the oysters and main course. It felt like our server just forgot about us. I attempted to make eye contact to ask when we may have our entrees, and she did not acknowledge my glance. The food itself was fine. My lobster bisque was decent, salad is salad. I had a bite of the rockfish special and it was also decent. If the service had been better, I would have given them a solid 4 stars on food alone but the lack of assurances from the staff regarding the wait made me feel like they didn't care enough about our experience. read more

Seafood... in Staunton? OH YEAH! Quick summary: delicious food (especially the crab cakes), wonderful atmosphere, and great staff. Fun / long version: We have been hesitant to go here because seafood seems to be very hit or miss. But on a beautiful Sunday we decided to give it a shot. Best decision we could have made! The inside of the restaurant itself is calm, with a beach feel but very tastefully done. There were plenty of tables but it did not feel crowded at all. So if you are going for a more personal dinner this is going to be a good spot. We sat outside under a tent since Staunton blocks the main road on the weekends. The hostess and our waitress were both very friendly and polite and answered multiple questions not only about the food but about the business in general. Now, onto the food. We started with some refreshing cocktails and the crab dip with homemade wonton chips. The chips had a seasoning similar to old bay but more pleasant. The dip itself was outstanding! My wife got the afore mentioned crab cakes with potatoes and broccolini. Hole-Lee-Shhhhhhelfish those were good. Meaty but with flavor, nicely seared but not burnt, and they did not scrimp on the crab by a long shot. If these weren't the best ever then they are dang sure a contender. Would happily get these again. I ordered the shrimp and grits. They use Wade's mill grits and Edward's sausage just to name drop some of the ingredients. Flavorful and it all worked well together. Lastly we ate a slice of the house made key lime pie. If you're iffy about key lime pie, this one will make you fan. But fair warning, it raises the bar on how good a key lime pie can really be. I'd go back just for that alone! The crumbly crust and whip cream contrast with the slightly tart / creamy pie. Hands down, best ever. They even garnish it with an extra bit of crust crumbles. All in all this was a wonderful spot and if you like seafood and you're near Staunton, you owe it to yourself to try BLU Point Seafood. Enjoy! read more

We slipped in about 45 min before closing at 8:45 PM and unlike other reviews the staff were happy to seat us with friendly prompt service. Quite frankly we were surprised to find the kitchen still open, but so glad it was. The clam chowder was creamy and after adding a bit of pepper, quite tasty and full of clam chunks. We shared the 2 crab cakes which were almost 2 inched thick and full of crab, with minimal filler. The remoulade sauce had a bit of a kick from the horseradish and spices, adding additional flavor to the crab cakes. Broccolini and potatoes accompanied. The nautical theme was modern, very clean, and there is a bar overlooking the kitchen if you like, but we were happy to sit at a table. Good lunch visit here in the summer. There are fried fish and seafood, raw seafood, and assorted options. While the fish n chips and the crab cake sandwich were good, the exceptional dish was the whole flounder my wife got, perfectly lightly fried, with an olive tapenade sort of topping that she adored. read more

First visit - Oct 2019 2/3- Oct 2020 4-nov 2020 This is really one of the best restaurants in Staunton - the freshness of their food is up with there with any of the best seafood places I have visited. I was planning a friend's birthday party and we were traveling from all over Virginia to meet up. I emailed the restaurant ahead of time to ask if they can take reservations (they normally do not) but they were kind to accommodate our party of 5 and seat us outside, under the awning of the restaurant to protect us if it would rain. The weather was perfect, as was the service, and the food! Thank you, Blu Point, for accommodating us and making this a special birthday, especially during this rough COVID time! I can't believe that I was so distracted, I forgot to take pics of the food this time! Luckily, I had pics from last year ! (It looks mostly the same!) Food (5/5): We started with soups, which really were delicious! New England Clam Chowder - cup $7 | bowl $9 Lobster Bisque - cup $8 | bowl $9 The lobster bisque was creamy, with light cream and delicate lobster flavor. The Clam Chowder was hearty and delicious. We also go the BLU Hush Puppies cajun remoulade sauce $7. If you don't think you like hush puppies (most are frozen and bland) you have never had these! They are moist and have plenty of flavor. Lobster Roll - $19 You get your choice of either Maine or Connecticut style. When available, I ALWAYS get Connecticut style, which is simply lobster chucks that are served with warm butter! The Maine style is the more traditional cold lobster with mayo/celery. That's fine if that is your thing - I want my lobster 1) WARM and 2) BUTTERY. Oct 2019 - I was able to get a side of Mac and cheese with my lobster roll which was amazing. Oct 2020 - I got a side of a special jalapeño Brussel sprouts, which were deep friend and so delicious. We also got the BLU Po' Boy - $15 - Choice of fried shrimp, oysters, bay scallops, or haddock. We got fried shrimp and onion rings on the side. My friends got the salmon and the Grilled Cheesy sandwich and everything was delicious. We also got a couple rounds of the fall drink special - "Spiced Old Fashioned." This was a simple old fashioned that had lots of fall spices - cinnamon, nutmeg and it tasted exactly like fall :) For dessert, we got Warm House Made Donut Holes - both the lemon powder sugar and cinnamon sugar and the Key Lime Pie with cinnamon crunch crumble, both $7. Of course, they were wonderful - the Key Lime of note, was creamy and wonderful. Service (5/5): Our server was wonderful and they were attentive to the table. Atmosphere/COVID Cleanliness (5/5): They had a large area outside on the street that was covered, providing outdoor seating. Wow! We are in town for just the night, on our way to a family vacation in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Wanted to try something nice and local.Found this place and just couldn't be happier that we did! Picture perfect blue and white check tablecloths, comfy chairs, and for me.....across from an old cemetery! (professional cemetery photographer here!) Kane greeted us, took our orders and he was off! We each had wine which was quickly served and the order was right - my husband always orders a pinot grigio with a side glass of ice...... that is important to remember in this review! We asked about the oysters - Kane explained each available and we made our selection. They were FANTASTIC!!!! I ordered the lobster roll - ct style and my husband ordered the crab cakes. Kane said no fillers - fall apart greatness - he was right! The lobster roll was decadent!!! We mentioned we were loving the vibe here and how I loved old churches and cemeteries and Kane drew us a map to find a spot where we could see the whole town!! We had key lime pie for dessert and it was creamy and perfectly flavored (sometimes they can be fake lime tasting) . All in all it was a perfect night - and Kane and this restaurant made it great! I did pickup. My wife got she crab soup and it was excellent. She also got peel and eat shrimp. They were OK as some were over cooked. I got shrimp and grits. It was not good. All the shrimp were very over cooked as if they had already been cooked then added to the dish then cooked again. I like spicy food however I couldn't taste the food for the over powering heat.
