K7. Spicy Kimchi Noodles calling me.
    Aaron S.

Have you ever had a song stuck in your head and you know it will never stop playing until you listen to it from beginning to end? And maybe, if you're a foodie like me, you have a similar experience with a certain dish or type of cuisine. Such was the case on a recent visit to the 'Burg. I had to have ramen noodles with beef. And I wanted them spicy! So I asked for such when placing my order. And soon, out came a dish piled high with red noodles and the beef on the bottom (soaking in all the juice). I could smell the burn as it approached. After a few bites I had exhausted my water, tea, and handkerchief. I questioned if I would be forced to surrender and wave the white styrofoam take home container of shame. But I have climbed this mountain before. I know there comes a point (a runner's high of heat if you will) where the burn reaches its apex then levels off. It almost (almost) becomes enjoyable. And from there, it is just one delicious bite after another. Every noodle and every piece of saturated beef was gone when I walked out that night. But also, in temperatures below freezing, my ski cap was off and my jacket completely open. I needed a shower after that. So needless to say, it was an amazing experience. The team there are friendly, and concerned when they see tears welling up in your eyes. The chef obviously is one of great talent and I look forward to visiting and ordering other dishes in the future. Give this place a try!

Hot and sour soup and hot sake!

Service was very good, without being pushy. Ambiance is good, college town vibe. A bit funky in a good way. Food is over ambitious...great hot sake and hot and sour soup delicious. Sushi entree disappointing...too much rice versus fish and spicy tuna roll had odd sauce over the top. Would not order that again...chicken teriyaki too soupy. Maybe try other dishes but I think they are trying to do too much.

This place has a wide variety of Asian foods on the menu. Most of my friends & I got sushi, however they have noodles, fried rice, pho, banh mi sandwiches, and lots more. I got the dragon roll. It was very good but could've used a little less sauce. The ambiance was nice - we sat outside so I cannot speak for inside. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is because our waitress was not very friendly. Every time we would ask for something, she seemed like she was getting annoyed. For example, there was 6 of us, we asked for straws and she only brought 4. When we asked for 2 more, she just walked away without saying anything. She also forgot to bring our sides of spicy mayo and again seemed like we were bothering her by asking for something she forgot. AND she also forgot to bring my friend's takeout order, so we were sitting there for a long time just waiting until she got up to go ask. The order had just been sitting on the counter. The other employees were friendly though.

BLUF: tasty for the most part, but lacking in small ways. Needs more attention to detail so that the food you get matches the description on the menu. Four of us ate on a Monday night. Banh MI and fries: fries were tasty but kinda soggy. On the Banh Mi the pork was delicious, but veggies weren't pickled. it was basically a pork sandwich. Drunken Noodles: very tasty. but not spicy the way it was advertised. Angry Salmon Sushi Roll: pretty good sushi. but the menu said it was seasoned salmon, and it wasn't seasoned. The only heat was from a sliced raw jalapeño placed on top. A jalapeño which, because it was so hot, pretty much drowned out the flavor of the sushi. Chicken Vermicelli: chicken was very tasty, but there weren't enough vegetables and it was underdressed. Hot and Sour soup: the best part of the dinner. Wonderful. with bog pieces of flavorful mushroom BLUF: all the food was very tasty, but most of it was missing some attention to detail

I don't remember what this is but the sauce was delicious

Pretty good food. The service was solid however when someone in my group mentioned being displeased with one of the dishes, the chef/owner did nothing to rectify this. Minimalist ambiance, nothing fancy

I come to Harrisonburg every month or so for work, and Beyond has become a go-to restaurant for me because of one menu item--their hot and sour soup! The other dishes I've gotten before (pad thai, drunken noodles, various sushi) are fairly average, but the hot and sour soup keeps me coming back each visit. It's very flavorful, perhaps because of the shiitake mushrooms they use. Service is very prompt...my food has generally come out in 5-10 minutes of my order.

Have only tried the sushi from here, but every roll i've tried has been amazing! Fresh taste & love the specials on the menu! One of the best sushi places i've been too! (My favorite is the Angry Salmon Roll)

Great choices in Asian food - Vietnamese & Sushi. Full bar with draft beers and craft cocktails. Excellent table service inside or outside on the patio. Pleasant place for friends, families or date night.

Fresh sushi in Harrisonburg is hard to come by, but this is definitely as good as it gets! The selection is broad with many combinations of cooked and uncooked rolls. Tempura green beans as an appetizer has always been a must for me when dining in here. The outside area in the back is great and my first choice when the weather is nice.

This cute little place in downtown Harrisonburg has all the Asian food you can dream of...sushi, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, and beyond! My girlfriend and I had the hot & sour soup, tuna hand roll, yellow tail hand roll, and the crispy orange chicken. The hot & sour soup was yum yum in my tum tum. The hand rolls had a large amount of fish, which we loved. The crispy orange chicken was just what I needed to eliminate my hangry attitude. The portions here are very good soyou are bound to leave happy and full. The wait staff here are also very attentive and friendly. Check them out!

Excellent sushi bar. Patio is outstanding. Another gem of Harrisonburg. Public parking across street Recommend

I chose the Vietnamese sandwich. It was so tasty. Bread was toasted and crispy and the mix of chicken, pickled cucumbers and fresh herbs were great. Very very nice lady (owner) and very helpful with the menu. - I had the chicken Pho ($16.50). I added the 2 included Hoisin sauce packets. It also came with a Sriracha sauce packet and a small container of chili oil along with the normal variety of noodles, sprouts, fresh herbs, green onions, white onions, jalapeño slices, and a lime wedge. The chicken was tender sliced white meat with no fat, gristle, or bones attached. The broth had a lot of flavor and was delicious. - I also had the shrimp and chive dumplings ($7.00). Not a strong shrimp flavor, but they had a nice crisp on the outside and were tasty. The sauce that comes with the dumplings is absolutely delicious. - My wife had the Bulgogi beef ($14.50). She said it was tender and very delicious. It came with rice, kimchi, and cucumber salad. I just happened to speak to Linh about the cucumber salad and she said this is how she's always made it for her kids and they love it. Well, I'm with her kids and love it too. She makes the vinaigrette herself and it has an unexpected sweetness to it instead of the usual strong vinegar flavor. We both loved it. - We had the pork gyoza ($7.00). This was cooked my favorite way, deep fried (not pan fried). This took me back to the gyoza in Japan and the Yaki Mandu I used to get in Korea. Great crispy wrapper with a tender flavorful filling. And again, the sauce that came with it is some of the best I've had. - The kimchi is not overly spicy and has a slight sweetness to it. - The Egg Tarts ($5.50) are good, not overly sweet. Could use a bit more filling for a better filling to pie crust ratio. - I also got a Chai tea bubble milk ($6.25) that was super delicious. Overall, we really enjoyed Nguyen's Kitchen and will go back with friends. It's unfortunate that it sits behind a Taco Bell and is not highly noticeable from the road, otherwise I might have tried it sooner.
