When I think food to try while in VA, Korean admittedly doesn't immediately come to mind but Gogi-wa is the exception! Run by an older Korean couple, their menu of classic favorites will have you debating between what to order. I went with one of their customer favorites: spicy chicken and it was delicious! And such a genius serving size! This one bowl lasted me the span of two meals! I knew it was going to be a memorable meal when I saw the wall of compliments & notes left by past customers. This is a find. The food is delicious and the quality of ingredients is fresh and tasty. Ingredients matter for any cuisine. We had 7 of us from age 5 to 70 and all enjoyed their dinner. (Family friendly to eat on porch outside at picnic table near Koi pond as no space inside.). Beautiful atmosphere outside with coy pond. Greeted as soon as we walked in and the owner walked us through the dishes and what was most popular, etc. The food was great as well. Virginia smack chicken looked so good but will get that next time. Will definitely recommend and return. read more

Seriously some of the best Korean food I have ever tasted. The owners focus on using organic food in all the food! The owners make amazing food and are really kind people. You can tell their love for food comes through every bite. The seating is outdoor but they have really cute coverings and everything can go to-go if you want to do takeaway! A solid Korean gem located where you don't expect to find authentic Korean food. It won't beat a bigger restaurant with more options - but it does its small compact menu extremely well! It was my first time having cup bop which had a little bit of everything (japchae (Korean stir fry noodles), rice, veges, a fried mandu (Korean dumpling), and tasty meat) which made this a perfect pre-hike meal for us. I see why #4, the Spicy pork cup bop, is the best seller. Meat is cooked just right, and I don't have to choose between rice or noodles - get the best of both! Loved that the bulgogi sandwich was served on a potato roll, as opposed to a sub as pictured. And just like the spicy pork in the bop, bulgogi was cooked & marinated well. This is a definite visit if you like authentic Korean food! I got the kimchi bulgolgi bowl (bibimbap) and it was very yummy - could probably go for something spicier. We also tried the nachos and they were different but very yummy. The owners are SO kind. They brought out a heater along with blankets as we enjoyed our meal. Small establishment. Hidden from the road. Just east of the entrance to Massanutten resort. Portions were generous and quite tasty. I had never had Vietnamese food before. The noodles were a divergence from other Asian faire that I have had. Not as savory as Chinese food but still good. A few outdoor tables is only onsite dining available. I presume the owner served me and he was very nice. My call in order was ready and still warm when a returned back to my place. Will return in the future. read more

Stopped by on the way to my parents. I'll be honest, I had seen the reviews on Yelp, but I didn't know exactly where it was located. It is in the shops across the street and just east from the Massanutten entrance. The same shops that have a hamburger spot and brewery. The bulgolgi bowl was VERY good. Even taking it to-go it was still perfect when we got home. I got the spicy pork bowl and glad I did. It was flavorful, but didn't consider it spicy. I'm not sure what the regular pork bowl would take. The bowl had a little bit of everything. All of the ingredients are locally sourced and prepared in house. It now falls into my top option when in the area visiting family. Vacationing at Massanutten? This is the perfect place for something a little different. read more

My friend and I both had the beef bulgogi and we shared an order of vegetable dumplings. Both were very delicious and very fresh tasting. The owner was very nice and attentive. This place is mostly for take out but does have outdoor seating. Don't fear though, they have dining bubbles! It was a cold rainy evening and Yujin made sure our dining bubble was the perfect temperature. What a fun evening! I will definitely be back. Food was very good and unique. Would definitely recommend the spicy pork bowl and the tempura shrimp. The dumplings were good but they melt cheese on top of them which I found kinda strange. Small place with a few outdoor tables but mostly setup for takeout. Definitely worth trying out. read more

This spot was definitely not around when I was visiting Massanutten last time. I didn't expect to find Korean -- especially some rated this highly, in the area, but wow was I blown away. The owner was super friendly and told me what was popular. Korean BBQ nachos, WHAT?!?! I almost got those, but decided to go the healthier route and get the bowl. I loved how the bowl had a fried mandu dumpling in it. I decided to sit outside, and the owner checked on me quite often and I was pleased to inform him how much I enjoyed everything! Every ingredient in the bowl was done well, from the pork to the dumpling, which intrigued me because it had cheese in it. I've never had mandu with cheese inside! Oh, and the spice level was on point -- he specifically told me that the bulgogi has no spice to it, and if I like spice to go with the pork. I am so glad I did! If I do go back, I will make sure to try the nachos. I hope they continue to do well! read more

What a hidden gem! I didn't expect to find awesome Korean food in a small mountain town, so this was a much appreciated meal after a day in Massanutten. The location is very convenient and also super cute, located next to a number of other food establishments (more on that in other reviews). I ordered the most popular dish, the #4 spicy pork cup bop, which as the owner explained, is basically everything they make in one bowl dish on rice. This includes delicious spicy pork of course, along with veggies, japchae, and fried dumplings. Definitely recommend this as THE place to eat when in the area! read more

I was in the area and SO hungry. I was intrigued that there was a Korean place out here in the sticks so I had to swing by and check it out. It is a tiny place withing a cluster of businesses next to the brew haha. I wanted something I could try right away (it was freezing so I drove 30 mins home before eating my entree.) I got the vegetable Mandy and ate 2 in my car. First thought was "wow this is a flavor EXPLOSION and I love it." I would totally order again. On second thought, I'd ask for no melted cheese on top. I'm not sure it was necessary with the sauce on top and flavors inside. I love a good bulgogi sandwich, as I grew up near "koreatown" in falls church that made the best. $4 bulgogi subs. I will say I'm glad I got the beef bulgogi pot as well, because the sub was underwhelming. It wasn't bad, per se, just not what I expect when I order a Korean bulgogi sub. It should have been served on an actual sub roll, not sweet, potato buns. I was also hoping for delecate shredded carrots, shredded Lettuce, and shredded cucumbers versus the garden salad mix. Also, American cheese? Just didn't work together with the awesome bulgogi pork. The pot I got was awesome; Absolutely blew me away, flavor-wise. Again, the garden salad mix was unexpected, but I loved the noodles, corn, and onions. The meat was outstanding and there was a good amount of it. I was a little bummed with the high price but I understand it since it's a true delicacy to get Korean food out here in the valley. I would 100% go back and be more specific with my order. What we ordered: mapo tofu, seaweed egg drop soup, dan dan noodles, chili-fried cabbage, and three delights (eggplant, string bean, potatoes). Every dish was so satisfying and generally seasoned well. The mapo tofu was delicious: numbing, spicy, saucy, and the tofu was not only silky but had also absorbed the sauce well. Cabbage had good wok hei and maintained its crunch. Dan dan noodles were a tad bland, but nothing ladling mapo tofu over it couldn't fix. Seaweed egg drop soup came out hot and warmed us up on a chilly and rainy spring day. I do wish they had white pepper on the side. No notes for the three delights, delicious as is. The vegetable fried noodles and fried rice used literally the exact same ingredients for the veggies: edamame, corn, bean sprouts, onion. They could've mixed it up between the two with some shiitake, fried tofu, cabbage...etc. but they literally just swapped rice out for noodles to make the other dish. It just felt lazy. The fried rice was also steeping in oil and yet somehow the grains were mushy and overcooked. Fried noodles were similarly oily and also just way too salty. It was also supposed to be "Shanghai"-style but the noodles were thin instead of the thick, round noodles that authentic Shanghainese fried noodles use. Disappointing, expensive, and unfulfilling. Glad to make this a one-time experience.
