There's a sign saying no leaving and reentry and that bags are subject to checks. I've been here multiple times and have never actually had my bag checked. My friend wanted to go to her car to get a pain reliever, and she and I were going to step outside because the bouncer has let her leave and come back in before. When we asked, he said he would let her go out and come back in, but he wouldn't let me go with her. I explained that I wanted to go because, in my opinion, this is not an area where I feel comfortable with two women walking outside alone late at night. His response was, "It's perfectly safe." I understand that he may have a different opinion, but sitting inside the gated entrance, he's not the one who would be walking to the car with us. Later, when a male friend from our group tried to go outside with her instead, the bouncer made him read the no-reentry sign multiple times. At that point, we all decided to leave. What bothered me most was the inconsistency. If the rules on the sign are going to be strictly enforced, then they should be consistently enforced--including the bag checks that are listed on the same sign. And if exceptions are going to be made, they should be applied consistently rather than depending on who is asking. I came here expecting to have a fun karaoke night, and unfortunately the way this was handled left such a bad taste in my mouth that we won't be coming back. If you're looking for a karaoke spot in Long Beach, just be aware that this was my experience with the security at this particular bar.

We stopped by late Saturday night and were able to snag an immediate walk-in at the bar at Hao Peng You, which is the intimate speakeasy portion of Midnight Oil. The decor definitely reminded me of my grandparents' house in Taiwan, with vintage, ornate wooden chairs, dragon/lion statue carvings, and even a historic century old marital bed that had been repurposed into a booth. The drinks were also VERY unique, with my favorite being Hua sheng (literally meaning peanut), which was crafted from a nostalgic childhood peanut milk drink. All our cocktails were crafted very well, to the point where I thought they were a bit on the lighter side since I couldn't really taste the alcohol. This section does get really busy though and only had one bartender who is making/serving drinks and taking orders, so do expect a bit of a wait. Overall, highly recommend checking out this vibey vintage Taiwanese-inspired speakeasy (that my inner history nerd was so excited about), and I'll definitely be back to try their food items as well as their two other bar/restaurant concepts!

I tried to use the restroom and found a guy with a chick in the men's bathroom smoking meth out of a pipe plus two guys rolling joints in broad daylight ! unprofessional and over poured liquor ! Sneaky shady horrible bartender (long blond hair). I left my credit card here over night and they decided to give themselves 120% tip, thinking I wouldn't notice. The worst part, when I picked up my card I asked if they needed me to sign a slip and leave a tip and they said "don't worry about, just tip next time" because they knew they would have been caught or gotten a lesser tip. This area rocks !. I continued a Sunday evening and that i were built with a blast. Everyone was super friendly. I only say every different race you will find, Chinese, black, whitened plus they counseled me super awesome. Also lots of gays , lessbians and straight folks. Used to be a great Dive bar to hang out at but recently taken over by new management. Needless to say bad management decisions. Raised prices and shrunk the drinks....Fired most of the good bartenders and hired a bunch of kids that just got out of bartending school. I try to get cash, but my debit card got blocked from the previous restaurant charge which I had to settle via phone to reopen it. I needed more time to get it resolved. As I am trying to resolve, the psycho bartender tells me to leave. I have never been more insulted for as this encounter. What the did I do wrong. Try and get my debit card fixed to pay for the drinks. The blond girl bartender insulted me regarless of my efforts to resolve the issue. The bearded guy ( maybe security ) came out side and threatened to call police. I said please call them as I am not trying to decieve anyone. This all occurred the late eveing of 9/29/2026. I would have done anything to make this situation ok, they decided to humiliate me and threaten me. They choose to call me names and insult me. As a previous professional bartender in San Francisco Bay Area for 8 years I would consider this behavior unacceptable. In fact it was disturbing and insane. I advise caution when vistiting this place.

Our close friend passed away recently and they are having a Remembrance Birthday but unfortunately I will not be attending because I'm appalled at the way we were treated.
