Laughter at these shows comes two ways: A genuinely hilarious comic, or one that is funny but needs more experience. That's the life of stand-up. It's like a box of chocolates: You never know what you'll get. But whatever it is, I assure you it will always be lots of fun. These shows are about new comics, often local, testing their material ... and they are always supported by highly experienced comedians from the national and international stage, who are typically the headliners. I really recommend this. It's great fun, and I try to never miss a show. Don's Tiny Comedy Show is a welcome stand-up addition in Calgary, and at a great venue. Just go.

It was not our first time and we had went two times before about 8 years ago. I knew the headliners were generally hilarious but I had forgotten how the food was. Four of us went on a Wednesday night and made reservations for 7:15. The restaurant is attached to the Travelodge on the north side. The menu is nothing special: standard pub appetizers like nachos, poutine, fries and garden/Caesar salads. Their entrées included ribs, teriyaki salmon, chicken with lemon sauce, ravioli and a burger. The entire dining room had only one server who was actually quite attentive. She came by our table a few times to refill our drinks and gave us our bill right after the show. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, lower your expectations for the food and you won't be disappointed. It's standard pub food. Our tickets included either one of the salads and all of us got the Caesar salad. The entrées came out lukewarm and the portions weren't huge. They did come out pretty quick. The food was unremarkable and the "ravioli" Alfredo came out as cheese baked tortellini. Each of us ordered a different entrée but none of us were overly impressed but weren't disappointed. After all, I DID mention expectations for the food were low. I would've given one or no stars for the food, but I gave three stars overall to Comedy Cave because their headliners are freaking funny. The headliners at Blackfoot Hotel are nowhere near as funny as the ones at Comedy Cave. The host looked exactly as he described himself: The secret love child of Jim Carrey and Justin Bieber. The other openers weren't as funny and the crowd was tough. I'm glad Paul Ogata was the headliner for the show because he was freaking hilarious. We were overall impressed with the show but the food leaves some thing to be desired. I would eat dinner elsewhere and go for the show, regardless of the minimum beverage charge.

Management decided liquor sales were more important than the show, the people who showed up, and the comedian's safety as the guy in the couple threatened him and the manager let them stay. They should have been kicked out after 5 minutes of them being there. Not one performer could get to their punchline because the female kept sharing her own stories and making comments on how the comedians can do better every 30 seconds. Everyone in the audience was frustrated and one guy even left. The most upsetting part of the night was when the boyfriend threatened the headliner while he was on stage. This man did the hand to eye signal to the headliner as he was leaving as if to say watch your back. Once this couple finally left everyone started clapping. The manager then brought the woman back to her seat (in the front row) and poured her wine glass to the brim even though she was very obviously intoxicated. The headliner even said 'wait, she's watching the rest of the show?' The manager then said 'yes her boyfriend is in his car and is not coming back'. When we left the show, we saw her boyfriend at the bar next door... The manager obviously didn't care about the performer's safety. ***I've emailed the club about this twice and no one got back to me (it's been weeks) so this will obviously keep happening. Go at your own risk.***

We loved the decor and really enjoyed walking around looking at all the art school students art. The themed drinks and decorations were great too. Thank you to all the amazing stage and show crews who put on a fantastic show. I have 2 complaints but I think they're universal to theatres and event centre's in general; there need to be more ladies bathroom stalls or make all the bathrooms gender neutral. Second is that seats should be staggered so that you're looking over someone's shoulders and not into the back of someone tall's head.

Last night we saw 'Friends: The One With Ace Ventura' for the second time. The experience starts right when you walk in, as there are characters wandering around and seating you. The characters play off of you, making each show different. We love 'Friends' and 'Joey', 'Ace' and 'Estelle' truly elevated our evening. Some of our party was very involved as it was a birthday and they were also chosen to be a 'guest'!​ The food, yummy as always, and the fun menu, full of 'winks'. Was…read moreso excited to final get to this show as honestly have been trying to get a group of friends together for a while to check it out! Dirty Laundry has been running for a million years. Ok its only been running for 16 seasons but that is basically a million years in theater years. Every season of Dirty Laundry is an ongoing soap opera based around a central theme. They start each "episode" off with a "previously on Dirty Laundry" so you can catch up to where the story has got to. It is really funny and they play off each other so well. As part of the Yelp event we got some delicious kettle corn during intermission, the actors then incorporated the sound of rustling paper bags into the performance. That's just good improve! Every couple of shows they open the floor to the audience afterwards for some Q&A which was good to get a bit of history on the show and how they come up with everything and decide where the story will go. They also sell wine and beer to enjoy during the performance and all reasonable priced too. Big win all around. Absolutely will look at getting a season pass for their next show as would love to watch the story progress from beginning to end. Also at $16 a ticket this is a great deal for improve.

This is improv like I've never seen before! Sure, going to a "Who's Line Is It Anyway" style improv…read moreshow is a great way to spend an evening. Dirty Laundry, however, kicks it up a notch and throws an ongoing storyline into the mix. The results are hilarious. Not only do they come up with a storyline that seems, well, at least as cohesive as any real soap opera story line, they do it in a way that every episode still stands on its own. Don't ask me how. Improv geniuses I tells ya! Don't worry if they're mid-season, the plot line isn't so important that you're unable to watch a single episode. But, if you do catch multiple shows you start appreciating it on a new level. My first time was so fun that we had to back... a few episodes later. For our second show, I was amazed at how many references to past jokes and plot lines they make that I would have missed entirely had I not gone to the show. Make no mistake, Dirty Laundry is definitely for adults, but it's like how Pixar movies are loved by kids, but when you watch as an adult you pick up on way more. It's not like you're missing out if you only go once (kid mode), you're just... ignorant to the full story, but in a way that you're so engulfed by childlike wonderment you don't even realize or care. If you're looking at an original twist to the tried and true but fully played out dinner and a movie date, definitely give Dirty Laundry a try.
