This casino was our favourite amongsts our alberta casino hopping .... friendly dealers!!! This is the lucky casino. Aya!!!

    Dim sum!!!
    Priscilla C.

Fun fact: Elbow River Casino does dim sum Friday to Sunday for lunch and it's actually pretty good!! I don't gamble so this review is only about their dim sum. A good rule of thumb for trying Chinese food in any questionable establishment is to look around you. Do you see Chinese people eating here? If the answer is yes, then the food MUST be decent. I arrived at 11 am, right when the restaurant opened, and was seated right away. By 11:30 the place was packed with Asians who knew of Elbow River's best kept secret. The menu is surprisingly extensive and the prices are completely reasonable. The staples like shrimp dumplings, shui mai and chicken feet were all good and fresh. Portions were generous. They even have a Hong Kong café menu with noodles, rice dishes and combos. The service is more attentive and the food comes out quick. The atmosphere is much quieter too. Caveat: can't bring the kids since the restaurant is in the casino. That's OK, it's nice to not dine in the presence of screaming children every so often. Even if you don't enjoy the ambience or the food because you've been spoiled by other dim sum establishments, you can't complain about the price. You'll realize how much restaurants like T Pot and Forbidden City are gouging you when Elbow River serves up 6 equally tasty shrimp crepes for the low price of $4.99, compared to 3 crepes for $5.99 at the aforementioned restaurants. Almost all dim sum dishes were $4.25, not more than $4.99. Seriously, go try the dim sum at Elbow River. It's not a gamble. Your belly will always leave a winner!

    Hainanese-style Chicken Rice.
    Eswina N.

In Singapore, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Kolo mee, and Yong Tau Fu are some of the staples of fast-food; so when I saw Hainanese Chicken Rice on the Elbow River Casino Restaurant Menu, I knew that I just had to try it. It's been years since I've tasted Hainanese Chicken RIce, it's basically chicken boiled to make stock. Uncooked rice, ginger and scallions (green onions) are sauteed in chicken fat before the rice is then cooked in the chicken stock. It is then served with the chicken, a ground up ginger & green onion and sesame oil sauce, some chicken broth on the side, and a chilli sauce. The rice and chicken tasted close to what you would get in Singapore. The ginger sauce was good too. The chili sauce was nowhere near what you would get. For those of us who grew up with this chicken rice the chili sauce is what makes or breaks it. They used the bottled sweet thai chili sauce that you can get in stores here. The authentic sauce is ground up fresh chili peppers with some vinegar and sugar. The trick is to scald the chilli peppers before you grind them, it is enough to change the flavour of the chili ever so slightly. The only other thing wrong is that the broth served was a soup made with pork ribs! It should have been leftover broth from the stock made to cook the rice in. It was, however, a tasty soup with big pieces of meat.Considering the miles I'd have to fly to taste the real thing, I can settle with having this when I'm craving Hainanese Chicken Rice. The portion was huge and I had to take half home for another meal. The cost was $12.99. Thursday is Asian Buffet night and if I had been hungrier I would have opted for the buffet. There was Alaskan King Crab and shrimp as cold appetizers and judging from the plates of others a good selection of hot items. Cost for the buffet is extremely reasonable at $16.95 considering the crab and shrimp. There is a different special on each weekday evening. Tuesday is Prime Rib night and there is dim-sum from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday to Sunday. There are actually 2 different menus: Chinese and Western so if you're ordering a la carte make sure you have both to look through. The Chinese Lady serving was very efficient and friendly, automatically switching back and forth from English to Chinese to cater to the predominantly Asian clientele. It is after-all a casino! There is lots of free parking underground and across the street.

There was an issue where it wasn't secure with someone who was not a guest on a floor and making guests feel uncomfortable. Once it was shared with hotel staff, they removed the person from the hotel, but they did not inform us so that is something that could have been improved. The restaurant by the hotel had great food and service, and it wasn't too busy during the day. It was busy for the evening rush, but I still felt the noise level was reasonable. The casino was cramped, busy and smoky for a Sunday evening. I didn't like the layout much. But they do provide free help yourself coffee in the morning. The event centre wasn't crowded, and easy to get to our seats. We had first row and I found it was quite close to the stage. I didn't have a drink, but the line ups weren't too long. There are bathrooms in the event centre, but we went in the casino as it was closer and no line up there.

#11 for 2025 I came…read morehere for the Comic Xplosion event hosted by Calgary Comic Expo. It was being held further back behind the tables in it's own room. Bouncers were there. I think you had to pay extra to get there. For me and others part of the event, we were allowed to walk in. There was a dance floor and full bar. We got there as they were restocking. We arrived abut 7:30pm I guess it wasn't open yet on a Friday night. I was told there is a coat check. Took advantage of that to lessen our load checking in both our coats. A guick visit to the restrooms found them pretty clean. By the time I settled in at a table next to the bar I placed my order for a beer. Needed one. Bartender kindly filled me in what was available and took a can. Everyone was polite and courteous willing to help out and answered all my questions about the venue, where i needed to go and who I can go to for the best assistance. Big screen TVs all around playing sport events, music videos, etc. Parking is abundant. Not sure how it would be if there is an event happening at the park. By the time everything was in high gear the noise level is really high. Several eye candies around to help with your drink orders. All very young dancing on raised steps in their skimpy outfits. The casino had a good variety of tables. I saw slots as low as C$2. Poker is played 24\7 but they also have Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, Free Bet, Blackjack, Ultimate Texas Hold' em, Hand-Held EZ Baccarat and Face-Up Pai Gaw. Plus multimedia Roulette, Blackjack and Baccarat. While you're playing you can get complimentary soda and coffee. I realized this would be a great place to chill before, or after an event. There are a few food options you can order from at the center bar. Hitman's has some good apps, soups, salasd, bowls, sandwiches and a lava cake. If you want burgers and pizza then head over to Melrose. For something more exotic go to Second Sons Kitchen for Asian food. The pricing might seem high to some but with the U.S. dollar strong I thought it cheap for everything they had to offer. It was fun to watch the Comic Xplosion event with Mog Park as a participating artist. As part of the group of artist she had 1 hour to paint on a 18x24 canvas. The lighting could be better but you could see everything everyone is paining. This round had 6 artist total and all were very good in their field. A couple were legends. While they are painting you can bid on the art work. Right off the bat Mog pulled in the highest bid leaving others behind. She led most of the way till it was almost over then the lead was jumping between 3 artist including Mog. Bidding was scheduled to stop 15 minutes after the 1 hour was up. In the last minute a bid war took place on her piece getting a final bid that became the highest in that round. It was fierce and exciting so fun to watch. The Cowboys Casino I believe handled the event well and was a win win for both parties, the Casino and Calgary Comic Expo. it would be nice to come back and experience the casino on my own leisure.

So on Thursday evening, after some shopping at the nearby Cross Irons Mall, we came here for dinner and their special this evening was Prime Rib for $8.99. It's a 6oz that comes with gravy, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, and a Yorkshire pudding plus horse radish. It was delicious!!! Everything on the plate was perfect!!! I'm not one to eat beef especially rare and still any pink to it, and I seldom do, so I requested mine to be "well done" and "tell the chef to burn it and I won't complain". When my plate came, I could see those beautiful criss cross markings on it and it was indeed cooked well done. Although people cringe and say I'm ruining a good meal by requesting my meat to be cooked this way, it by no means ruined it. In fact, it was one of the best prime rib dinners I've had in my life!!! It wasn't at all chewy but still tender to the chew and the sides were a bit charred to give it that slight crispiness and flame broiled taste. The mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, Yorkshire pudding, and gravy were all really good as well. We ordered a side of garlic toast to share and it was also tasty and delicious. There was a bit of a line up to be seated but only ten minutes for us. It seemed like it was a popular night for people to come out and get this deal because the line up was longer by the time we finished and were leaving. Service was exceptional. Friendly servers who were quick in getting drink orders as soon as you were seated, refills on water, checking up on how the food is and so on. For an extremely busy evening this is appreciated. The restaurant is clean and where we sat, it has large windows looking out to the racetrack. After dinner we played some slots and it must've been a lucky night for me because I sat down and played 2 cents slots for only 3 or 4 minutes... and I got the Bonus thingy and won $202.40!!!!!!!!! A delicious prime rib dinner and instant winnings at the slots! What more could a girl ask for on a Thursday evening after a hard day at work?!?!?! Will definitely go back to try other items on the menu and their other specials!!!

Server (Judy) is one of the most unenthusiastic humans to ever exist. Seems unhappy to be working almost every time we encounter her. Took her three tries to find menus for our table, and even when she did find menus, they were all crusty and dirty. She almost never knows what the soup of the day is, and seems very "meh" about providing a level of service that's a step up from a fast food counter. Fast forward to our food. Fries were hot and fresh and that's where it ends. Mains were lukewarm at best, and we were almost completely finished before she came to check on us. Had she actually done her job, instead of chatting to a customer at the bar, we could have informed her of our disappointment. Fast forward to asking for our bills. Asked for them, she wandered off, and it was approximately 5-7 minutes later she came back with them, and instead of being proactive and bringing the debit machine, she laid the bills down, and vanished again. She came back a short while later, debit machine in hand, and saw one of our party was paying with cash, and subsequently vanished again for no reason, only to come back even more confused than she was before. The person paying cash had left a fair amount for bill/tip, and she sort of questioned if they needed change. We said no, it was fine, and then we expected her to ring the bills for the people paying with cards and instead she took the cash and wandered away, and came back a few minutes later for the rest to pay. In between people paying she would go back to the bar and then come back to finish another bill. I wish the service here would ramp up just a few notches on weekends. Have someone dedicated to serving patrons who are eating and someone dedicated to serving booze throughout the casino. It would save a lot of hassle and I'm sure it would be welcomed. There is usually a guy working the upper level of the bar and sometimes a younger woman, and they are top notch at their jobs. I just wish that the staffing would be more consistent, along with some needed consistency with the food. One day it's good, next day it's awful. Think it might be time to eat before we come out to gamble, or find another casino to eat at. Just my 2 cents.
