Just visited the Cafe at Edelweiss today and we are in shock. The food we were served DOES NOT have any resemblance to German Food. It started with luke warm water that tasted like it came out of a pool and was followed by mushy Spaetzle with no taste gravy plus an overcooked sausage with a bun and a tiny container of butter. The Apfelstrudel was actually a Raisinstrudel with no apples to be found and the Lemon DELUXE torte was only a half slice. All that for $43.94. WE WILL NOT BE BACK and will let all our friends know not to make the same mistake. As a German born and raised Canadian I am sorely disappointed in Edelweiss and the poor quality of food they now serve. It was not always like that. What happened????

Lots to see here. I enjoy that. There's jewelry, chachkies, and cuckoo clocks galore! The food is pretty good, but expensive IMO (considering it is microwaved and deli style). I enjoyed my visit - I felt like I was on a little holiday, haha. The seating area / restaurant is quite quaint and comfortable as well, nice place to peruse around and sit down for a chat.

I have a new favourite place in town and it goes by the name of Edelweiss Village/Kaffe Stube. Edelweiss is THE biggest German store in our city, and THE biggest I've ever seen. They've got everything from German chocolate to German tabloids. They specialize in German imports and a visit is more of an experience than a shopping trip. To add to their unparalleled selection of German goods, they have an in-store restaurant where you can eat cabbage rolls, Bratwurst and Schnitzel to your heart's content. They even have a vegetarian menu!!! Oh, and don't even get me started on their desserts. Seriously, just lock me in overnight with nothing but a fork. My words can't possibly do Kaffe Stube justice, so I took a whack load of pictures so you can get an idea of what a jaw-dropping experience it is. Honestly - Edelweiss Village is my absolute favourite Calgary discovery so far! Picture time - see for yourself!

Oom Pa Pa! All the German food!

This place looks exactly like my cute little old german grandmothers house! Ok, I don't have a cute little old german grandmother, but if I did, I would want her to live here. It's magical. Housewares, kitchen ingredients, knick knacks, chocolates, fancy handcrafted village scene wooden cookoo clocks, and pretty much anything you can think of from the old country. It was a cold day, and I went in for a delicious hot plate of cabbage rolls, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut , and bratwurst. They really do make some fantastic comfort food. It's everything you need to feel all warm and happy on the inside and it tastes home cooked, just like my fictional german grandmonther used to make. Served on dainty white ceramic plates with german pattern work around the outside, eating at a table with a crochet table cloth, this restaurant market did everything to stir up the nostalgia in me for a time and place that I hadn't ever experienced. Eidelweiss Village is a great place to go if you are honestly looking for German products, for a down to earth home-cooked meal, or if you want to feel like a tourist in your own city.

    Oktoberfest platter all year 'round!

I dropped in here for lunch and ordered the Oktoberfest platter. The red cabbage was tangy and not too tart, and the scalloped potatoes were creamy with a smoky accent from the diced ham. The bratwurst was cooked to perfection. I wished that there were two of them on the platter; I'm a carnivore at heart! There is a cozy little eating area here with paintings, prints, and antique clocks for sale. To the right of the store is an excellent deli with imported cheeses, cold cuts, sausages, and pates. The bakery makes European pastries like cream puffs, cakes, strudel, croissants, and tortes. There are also shelves of cookbooks, raclette and fondue sets, kitchen gadgets, mugs, and imported foods available.

I could…read moreexcuse some empty areas in the museum, and some messy bathrooms, but during a recent visit, the same area was fairly empty, and the bathrooms were still a mess. Now it was Treaty Day, and they had a few events here, so maybe this is the reason for the washroom sloppiness (there was a talent show, bbq, and 10k run---I was too late for all of them) :( But yeah, last year I was in awe. I noted some shortcomings, but I assumed they'd get remedied after a year or so of operation. Unfortunately, not much was different. Museums should be dynamic and ever-changing. They should give reason for return visits. Our people have so much to offer, and THIS IS A MAGNIFICENT MUSEUM. So, let's represent! (Don't get me wrong though---I'll be back!). On a techie note, they did have free wifi, so I was able to check email on my phone!

But, ... then there is what Corey already mentioned: some display lights were off or broken, an area with a photo exhibition was completely in the dark, posters were starting to peel off from the displays... There seems to be a lack of maintenance. The experience with the staff however was flawless. Very friendly and professional. A note on the side: some trails are still closed after the 2013 flooding.
