A fantastic spot to stop in for pizza! Prices were reasonable (roughly $5/slice) and service was fast. There are tons of places in NYC boasting long lines, but we came in on a Sunday afternoon and waited about 5 minutes total after ordering at the register to getting our pizza. Seating is rough, but we were able to snag a spot. Now I'm not from the area and am no pizza expert, but the crust was crisp, the toppings were flavorful, and portion was generous. The first stop on our NYC pizza tour and it did not disappoint. The slices were massive, piping hot, and super cheesy. We got a Nonna Maria Pizza and Pepperoni Pie, and to my surprise the Pepperoni was my favorite of the two. On a corner of Bleecker Street you can visit euphoria if you so choose to. Bleecker Street Pizza is a flavorful punch of a slice, well positioned amongst the hierarchy of New York pizzerias. The inside is unassuming, a lot like a million other places but whatever is going on in that oven is the truth. When we stopped by there was a decent sized line but they do keep it pushing well. Despite the amount of people indoors the place is still pretty clean and there is an order to all the madness going on around you. Lining the walls they have photos of celebrities who made the trek (or swiped a Metrocard) to enjoy a slice here. Like any pizzeria they offer a lot of different slices but since we've heard this place was one of the best slices in the city we opted for a regular cheese slice, no frills to make sure we were hearing correctly. After getting our slice and sitting outside (yes, they do have outdoor seating but it is hard to come by), we were ready to dig in. Here's our careful analysis: the crust is undoubtedly New York style. Firm, crisp, not too much give and not burnt to high heavens like a New Haven slice. A little flop to it but a firm underbelly to the slice, which seems like an over evaluation, but trust that it is not. The first bite was incredible. The cheese is stretchy and light, the sauce rich but complimenting the cheese. Easily one of the 3 best pizza slices in our lives based on the first bite alone and by the final bite we were questioning if it was the best period. Needless to say, Bleecker Street Pizza is not an if you're in the city or an if you're in the area excursion; this is a go out of your way and eat this slice place. Another item on my bucket list for NYC was to try a slice of pizza, and I was recommended to try this place while in Manhattan. The restaurant was small and quaint and located on the respective street corner it was named after. Walking inside, I was greeted by the people behind the counter and saw a pizza oven as well. Looking at the menu, it would cycle through some of their hot entrees and other dishes, but I really wanted to try what they were best known for, which was their pizza. There was a plethora of options, but I was recommended by locals to try the Nonna Maria and a grandma-style pizza and so I got one of each slice. Since I was with family at the time we also got a salad bowl as well and I picked up a little cup of Caesar dressing. There was not a lot of space for seating, since the restaurant is not that big, but the similarly to some of the other restaurants I tried here in Manhattan I couldn't help but find the retro green interior to be charming and classically Italian American. Starting with the House Salad, the bowl at first looked decently-sized, but after opening it and splitting it with everyone else, it was definitely packed and could be split among 3-4 people or be eaten as an entrée. The House Salad had olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, red bell peppers, red onions, and mixed leafy greens and was very fresh. The Caesar dressing I picked out was also nice and well-salted and had nice funky notes of parmesan and anchovies, it also had a good amount of acid from lemon juice. Now for the main course: the pizza. The traditional Nonna Maria slice came with tomatoes, mozzarella, parmesan, and basil. The crust was very crispy almost cracker-like, and the tomatoes were sweet and a little tangy. The mozzarella also provided a nice rich and milky flavor to balance out the sweetness from the tomatoes, and the basil provided nice floral, peppery, and savory flavor to balance out the richness of the tomatoes and mozzarella. Finally, the parmesan added just a little boost of saltiness and nuttiness to round everything out with regard to flavor. As for the Grandma slice that I got, there were multiple flavors you could choose from and from what I saw there was another Nonna Maria flavor, a Cheese slice, and what appeared to be a Red Sicilian flavor. I still stuck with the Nonna Maria flavor for the Grandma slice because I wanted to get a good feel for how the crust compares to that of the traditional slice. The Grandma slice is thicker than the traditional slice and is pretty identical to what you would expect from a focaccia bread, however the crust still has some crisp to it. That being said, if you like softer and bready pizza you will love the Grandma pizzas they have here. I don't have a picture of it here, but one of my family members I was with gave me a sample of the Meatball Pizza as well, there was some ricotta, and the ground meat tasted like a blend of beef and pork, but it might be one or the other, so I'll have to ask the people at the counter when I visit again. The crust of the meatball pizza was still crispy and thus verified the restaurant was still consistent with regards to quality, in addition the meatball was very seasoned exceptionally with salt, garlic, and onions, moreover, the meatball was also very tender and melted like butter after trying it. The ricotta was also very creamy and rich and overall rounded everything out as well with regards to taste. To put it short, I understand why this place is considered one of the best in NYC, and if you ever visit the Manhattan area, I would try this place out.
