This location is our go-to. We have been regulars here. We do our regular orders of gluten free vegan cheese pizzas, high rise simple pies, and whatever my husband I feel like for pizza that day. I've been enjoying their vegan chorizo and mushrooms lately. They have gotten better with firing up their pizzas and not over cooking crust and cheese. The drink area has aqua frescas, lemonades, and sodas. On a busy day it can get real messy and sticky. They do a good job cleaning up quickly though. They got rid of their gluten free dairy free crust starting in June but I've learned that they are bringing it back in September. We've been taking a break from Blaze for a month now. Today I ate the best calzone ever. Blaze pizza really makes the best calzones in the world! Calzones aren't on the menu. However the owner made a nice exception for me and told me he'd make one if I came into the store. His employees then made me the most scrumptious calzone I've ever had (I'm a calzone connoisseur). Blaze is a clean space and a nice quick order and dine experience. It should be noted that the pizza oven is gas-fired and not wood-fired, so that does have an effect on the taste of a "fast-fired" pizza. I had the "Red Vine" which is Blaze's take on the Neapolitan or Margherita-style pizza. The Ingredients are fresh, which I really enjoyed. The Red Vine had: sauce, fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, and fresh basil. I requested sea salt and dried oregano as compliments. They drizzle fresh olive oil over it after it comes out of the oven. The pizza tasted very nice. The crust had a little crisp to it and a decent chew, but I think the action of a 900° wood-fired oven creates a little better crisp and chew and overall flavor. All in all, no disappointment at all. I love Blaze Pizza! This was my first time at this location. I had only been to the MLK location, which is awesome. This one is just as great. I'm so glad there's a location at Valley West Mall, now, too. It's so convenient and it makes eating at the mall so much better. If you've never eaten at Blaze, you'll love the concept. You order your pizza and then walk down the line like Subway and watch your pizza being made. You can order from their many predesigned pizzas or build your own pizza. I always build my own pizza. I love that I can pick whatever toppings I want to be on my pizza. They have a ton of toppings to choose from, even roasted garlic and goat cheese! All the ingredients are fresh and everything is made to order. It doesn't take that long for your pizza to be made because it's made in assembly line fashion with a different person doing each part of the pizza. And then it only takes a few minutes for your pizza to cook. And everyone is so cheerful and friendly as they're asking you what you want on your pizza. You can't beat that. This is my favorite place for pizza. It's fast, but it's not fast food pizza. It's almost gourmet with all the fancy and high quality ingredients you get on your pizza. They also have different finishes you can add to your pizza after it comes out of the oven. I added a balsamic glaze to mine. It was so yummy. And don't get me started on their awesome drinks. They have a fantastic blood orange lemonade that is to die for. They also have Blue Sky sodas that are made with cane sugar that were also delicious. The whole family very excited to come here. While the location by the Iowa Cubs is convenient, having another option on this side of town is the drizzle on my pizza (kind of like the icing on a cake). This Blaze did not disappoint. In fact they actually improved on the other location. They serve BEER. In heaven there is no beer. That's why I drink it here at Blaze. The pizza is delicious as always. The toppings are amazingly diverse and fresh. Spinach really makes it taste good. And the oh so yummy roasted garlic. No one else has that option and that's why we eat that here. This is an excellent location for this Blaze. Right in the door of the mall they are there. Today the line is 9 people deep stretching in the hallway of the mall. I had a coupon to use up before the end of the year. So I had called my Mom and she was already in line waiting for me. The line was moving at a decent pace. It got to us and the young man behind the counter had to turn away to try and help get caught up on what they were needing. He looked a little stressed, which is understandable as this was the lunch rush and everyone back there was on edge. I tried to make it as easy on him as possible and just picked a predesigned pizza. I have visited a Blaze before and knew what they have is good so I didnt try and get fancy today. Except, no pepperoni. My Mom had a coupon for a salad so she got a small side salad. I used my coupon of buy on get one and got a second pizza to go. They have gluten free options which is why I could invite my Mom. We got curious and tried to the new Keto crust. Just walked out of Blaze at Valley West. I've been a Blaze fan since they opened in our area. I have to eat gluten-free for medical reasons, and have never had a problem at this location. I always tell them gluten-free with a glove change; and ask for a clean scooper for the sauce, they always get a fresh container of sauce when I ask for this. Today, the lady did not change her gloves, but told me she did. I watch like a hawk, and she did not change them! She seemed annoyed when I asked for a clean scoop, and then she dug right into the sauce container on the prep line- it was more than half used, definitely not "clean". At this point, I was frustrated and decided not to eat there. She argued with me when I explained why I didn't feel like it would be safe for me to eat there, and my husband decided neither of us would be eating at Blaze. As we were leaving, I looked back and saw the girls that were prepping our pizzas talking to the manager, and I heard "so what did they want?"... I went back to explain to the manager why we were leaving, why I didn't feel I could eat there without getting sick. The manager didn't ask if they could fix things, just kept saying "ok"... like I was crazy. Fine. I'm nuts, but I won't be eating there again. read more

Today found me at Blaze Pizza in Valley West Mall in West Des Moines. I'd heard about the downtown location, but had not made it a point to head that way yet. Now that a location opened up about 14 blocks from where I work there were very little excuses left to not check them out. Blaze is not in the food court. It's on the West side of the upper level and has it's own entrance from the parking lot. If you enter from the parking lot you're actually entering from the rear of the store and have to make your way to the front. There was way more seating than I expected to see made up of booths, high tops, and lower tables. I checked out their web site earlier this morning and decided to try their online ordering system. It's an easy system and it lets you choose your pickup time and build your pizza with their ingredients or to choose a pre-built template. Blaze offers three crust options: original, high-rise (+$2), or gluten free... If you choose to order online your pizza is pre-built, but not pre-cooked, before your arrival. Once you let them know you're there they put it in the oven so it's fresh baked. I let the gal at the register know I had arrived (I was WAY early) but my order was already in the process of being built. I had a small issue with the online payment system...it didn't want to process my debit card for some reason, but it went through at the register just fine. To the right of the registers they offer bottled drinks and I saw a self-serve fountain machine there as well. While I was waiting a member of the staff was standing near me and I struck up a conversation with her. I was kind of amazed watching the building and cooking process in the combination of online orders and walk-up customers coming in. Annie explained they make all their dough fresh every day and that oven is built for optimal cooking conditions inside and runs between 540 and 570 degrees (don't quote me on this). This allows them to cook fast and move a large quantity of product. In the course of our conversation she said that there are over 200 Blaze locations now nationwide and it all started with the owners of Wetzel's Pretzels. One day they really wanted pizza, but knew they didn't have time so they went to another nearby option...a Chipotle. As they were watching them assemble their food it was a light bulb moment...and thus the concept of Blaze Pizza. After a bit Annie excused herself to continue taking care of business. She thanked me for my interest and for coming in...and she gave me a 2 for 1 coupon for my next visit. Now to the pizza. It was pretty darn good. Way better than Little Caesars and other lower price point grab-and-go pizzas. I picked the original (thin) crust and a variety of toppings (the spicy red sauce, cheeses, meats, and vegetables). The pizza was very similar to 515 Pi and other thin stone oven pizza I've had. Much faster than 515 Pi, but Blaze Pizza is operating with a much larger oven...not something available in a truck. The ingredients looked and tasted fresh. I'm not a huge fan of stone oven pizza because they don't always heat evenly and the pizza can be burnt on one side and underdone on the other. This was the case with my pizza today... You can see it in the pictures. I just about edited the photo and cropped it a little, but then I decided to leave it for transparency. I ate all of it...and it looked a worse than it actually was on that slice or two. It didn't really taste too burnt. And they'd already given me a 2 for 1 coupon... The total with tax for my build your own pizza was $8.43. Again...very similar to what I remember paying at 515 Pi for a similar sized pie. Yes it's a chain, but it's a good concept, and they execute it well. I have a feeling this will be the first of many trips to Blaze Pizza for me as long as they keep operating out of Valley West Mall. For some reason a lot of food service businesses don't seem to stay open in that mall for very long... I hope Blaze does well there. read more

I was very impressed with my first visit to Blaze Pizza. The line was long but they moved everyone through very efficiently and encouraged you to be creative with your topping choices, while offering suggestions of their favorites. I made a chicken and bacon on white sauce with a pesto finish. Ingredients were very fresh and I was amazed at how quickly it was baked. When they say 90 seconds, they mean it, and out came a perfectly crispy but also soft crust, in all the right ways! I'll definitely be back to Blaze Pizza! read more

Loveeeeee! They're really bringing the "lunch" back to pizza! They're ingredients are fresh and they have more than your usual pepperoni and sausage. I usually do a combo of red sauce with pesto on the crust topped with mozz, ovalini, goat cheese, roasted garlic, spinach, zucchini, and tomatoes. If I'm feeling super hungry I'll throw a turkey meatball on there. I usually also ask for it to be extra crispy and it is perfect! Every time! And don't forget dessert! They're s'mores are made with biscuits shipped directly from Europe so they're a little heartier than the usual s'mores made with graham crackers and it's soooooo delicious! They'll ask you if you want it heated up and you will definitely want to say yes! They're agua frescas and lemonades are delicious and house made! This is a nice new addition to Valley West. The inside is really nice and new. The service behind the counter was kind, prompt and engaging. The price point is really nice under $10. The house made lemonades are abso-freakin-lutly fantastic (I'm not a lemonade person usually but theirs are worth a visit). Their pizza has fresh toppings but their crust is like cardboard and has no flavor at all--and for me the crust makes or breaks a pizza. For me, I may drop in here and there but I won't be on my list of places I NEED to go back--except on a hot summers day when I need a refreshing lemonade. read more

This is the second try for this location. First try, they made only one out of three pies we ordered online. Sure okay, mistakes happen. The manager comped our order. Okay. Fine. Pizza quality was ...weird. I'm pretty much a pizza expert. The crust was somehow undercooked (doughy) yet still burnt (actually just black). I love the concept! You go down the line of ingredients and choose a signature pizza or build your own and the employees assemble it right in front of you. Then they blast it in a super hot oven for 180 seconds and you have your pizza! I was there for an event so it was super busy, but somehow I still had my pizza in around five minutes. I ordered the signature Red Vine pizza and it was delicious. You can also add toppings once they pull it out of the oven--i opted for a little balsamic glaze. The pizza was delicious! All of the ingredients are fresh and top grade and you can tell. It's surprising that such high quality pizza is at this reasonable price point. The entire team at Blaze is friendly and fast. Who would have thought, after years of soggy mall pizza from Sbarro that there would actually good pizza available while you shop? Stopped in here yesterday for the first time, and didn't have very high expectations. I was so wrong. If you've never been to Blaze, it's set up kind of like a Subway. You choose your sauce, types of cheese, then your toppings. It's cooked at a high temperature so the crust is crisp with just the right amount of charring. So tasty. Pleasantly surprised at the variety of options, including goat cheese(!) Everyone was friendly and helpful.
