    Loaded Tots

We went to their new on-site building but the dinning area is closed and only has drive through at the moment. We got it to go and the chicken was still crispy and the bread was still good and not soaked. They packaged the sandwiches in a container that does not have a top so it doesn't collect steam and make it soggy. It's a good concept but also did not expect it when we got home. It's a good thing we didn't drop the bag. So just a heads up when taking it home. Overall the sandwiches are good. The chicken is tender and juicy. It's not as thick as the the pictures sees since it has a lot of breading. But it's still good. The Nashville hot was spicy and savory, with an semi-sweet bun. The Thai chicken sandwich was a bit on the salty side for me. I think too much soy sauce with their peanut sauce they add. The Asian slaw was nice too. Lightly vinegary, so it gave a good bite it needed to cute the richness. The crab Rangoon salad was okay, not my favorite since it's a regular mixed green veggies, with some undercooked wonton crisps. The cream cheese was thick so it didn't coat the salad. If it was more loose it would've been better since the cream cheese and crab was only sticking to the chicken. The dressing is a sweet chili dressing too. So it was okay. Would probably try the sandwich version next time. Finally the loaded tots were still crispy and had a good flavor with the added onions, sweet and savory sauce and cheese. Can't go wrong with tots.

We found Rebel Chick BBQ parked at the Waukee United Methodist Church. The menu looked awesome! The food in the warmers looked great. With all transparency they were having a bit of a rough start with this event upon arrival... Power issues. Not entirely unexpected for a new rig. We were taking our food to go and had a 20+ minute drive to get home. More than likely we were going to need to warm the food up anyway once we got home. Not a big deal for us! We ordered the following: 2x pulled pork sandwich 1x 1/4 rack of ribs 1x mac n cheese 2x smoked baked beans The pulled pork sandwiches were piled high and we couldn't help picking at the meat that had overflowed from the buns and had fallen out into the basket. So good! Speaking of the buns they use a really nice bun here, for the pulled pork sandwiches, that holds up well! Too many times I've seen people resort to the cheap ones that fall apart in minutes to save money off the top...or to reduce the item cost to the customer. I can only speak for myself, but I'll gladly pay a little more for higher quality... The ribs were meaty and tender. Smoked and seasoned perfectly! The mac n cheese was really good! You could tell that it had been seasoned too and there was more to it than just the cheese sauce... Definitely need to offer this is a Large size too! Power issues aside this is a truck/trailer to watch! Once they get the kinks worked out they are going to be a force on the Des Moines metro food truck scene! Can't wait to try that brisket melt though! Follow their FB page for their schedule: https://www.facebook.com/61576700919262

My boyfriend bought the 14-hour braised steak (rich peppercorn reduction & balsamic infused caramelized onions). We both wanted to try it so we split it in half and the half portion was plenty filling for each of us AND it was absolutely delicious! When I found out it was a local brand I had to go to Hyvee to try the other flavors. So far the other flavor I've tried is the Chicken Sun dried & cherry tomatoes in a basil béchamel. It was so good! I started with a half portion but it was so good I ate the other in the same sitting. That was a mistake on my part because I was too full eating the whole thing! The pie may seem small but it is plenty filling for two meals. The nutrition facts on the back are based on a half serving and at half size the caloric intake is over 400 calories. But it's to be expected because these things are so good! I can't wait to try the other different flavors I bought of PIE MATES from Hyvee.

I was able to try a new truck today that I hadn't made it to yet... Street Eats DSM…read more Klickle showed them right off of 47th and Westown and I remembered it was food truck Wednesday over at the Regency buildings (4700 Westown Pkwy in West Des Moines). They normally park on the South side of the buildings... Last year there was usually three or four trucks out there every Wednesday...this year only two most of the time. I've had my eye on Street Eats DSM and as luck would have it they were parked alongside one of my other favorite trucks today...Jack & Vinnie's (owned and operated by Club 2000). But I came for Street Eats DSM...got to stick to the plan. I'd already scoped out the Rocky Balboa online. Philly style beef, natural cut fries, mushrooms, onions, peppers, and American cheese on a large hoagie roll... The other menu items sure looked really good too. Ordering and paying was a snap and I was surprised when they handed me a buzzer to signal me when my order was ready for pickup. What is this madness? Is this witchcraft? A truck using a buzzer call system... Have pigs flown and hell froze over? I have no idea what this costs to maintain, but I hope other trucks start using this... My buzzer went off after a short wait and I grabbed my sandwich and headed to the car for the short drive back to my office. The sandwich was $9 and a can of Coke was $1. So a total of $10 before tip... My biggest issue with some food trucks is that I don't feel like I get the amount of food I would at a restaurant. Probably why I like Jack & Vinnie's...this is never an issue with them. It's not an issue with Street Eats DSM either... I am pleasantly full, not stuffed, but I feel like it was money well spent. I'm not usually a big fan of potatoes on my sandwiches, but the fries were crispy and added a nice crunch along with being very filling. The sandwich was cooked well...all components...and the staff provided really good service. You can't expect much more than that off a truck. A big thumbs up. Glad I finally caught up with these guys. 2nd visit. Stopped over at Regency West for Food Truck Wednesday again. Street Eats DSM and 515 Pi were there. Top Bun and Roadside Tacos were no shows. So... Street Eats DSM again it is... As I said previously they had other menu items I wanted to try anyway. :) I decided to try the Cajun tacos today and I made sure to say hello to Aaron. He's a nice guy and the man can cook... I ordered the Cajun tacos...one shrimp and one catfish. 2/$7. The shrimp and fish were cooked perfectly. The other ingredients were fresh, and the remoulade has a great flavor to it. Like Jack & Vinnie's this is a truck I don't walk away from hungry or unhappy. Great service. The menu items are a good bang for your buck as far as size/quantity and quality. I know fish and chips and shrimp and fish tacos has been a hot item lately... I'd suggest putting this truck on your to-try list for both. The buzzer call system they use is genius. It would probably have been more efficient today if I hadn't been standing in front of the pick up window talking. (Dates of service: 07/11/2018 and 07/18/2018)

The truck was set up in the parking lot and the line was just forming. The menu was written on a chalkboard. The details of each item were very thorough. I was very interested in the chicken bruschetta. We ordered and it took about 3-5 min for the fresh food to come to the window. Oh my it was huge! Starting from the bottom was a big ol bun. Then was the hot fresh French fries..Oh and then the shredded chicken, bruschetta, and pesto mayo and cheeses. I thought the flavor was fantastic and wished I didn't have so far to walk back to my company so I could eat it right down. The amount of food was too much for my little mouth so I had to get it back to where I could cut it down again. Next time I am skipping the bun and having it all on fries!!
