I have been chasing this food truck all over West Des Moines... since I am not a quitter I caught up with them today. These bowls are amazing... they come with a Acai berry frozen sorbet, granola and banana... then you get to add one additional topping for free. I added mixed berries and almond butter. If I would not look crazy I would go back for another it was so good. I will not get the classic size (small) In the future. It is worth the larger size... I am pretty sure the man also told me that the calories were reasonable. However I can't remember the exact calorie count! This is a two thumbs up... I checked this food truck out to see what all the big hype is about. I never had an Acai bowl before and glad I tried it! The food truck is purple and cute-- you can't miss it. Their Facebook page does a great job of informing mostly on a daily basis where they will be located. This truck has a huge turnout and is very popular. The Acai bowl comes in three sizes and I chose the smallest one for $6. I thought it was plenty big. The base of what's included in the price is the acai itself which is sort of like a frozen smoothie/sorbet with the acai puree in it. It's very good . It tastes like what I imagined with a berry like flavor but less tart/sweet. It also comes with bananas and granola which are yummy. You get to pick one topping such as berries and many other items. I like the mixed berries! It's nice to have a healthy refreshing food item like this and I can't wait to eat it again! read more

I always get really excited for a business that starts out as a food truck and then grows into an brick and mortar spot! It shows hard work, and that they are in it for the long haul! Also the weather in Iowa sometimes makes it so much harder to survive in the winter... But Big Acai has you covered for that... Fresh foods that are great for you, think healthy bowls of goodness, smoothies etc. They also have coffee, and FREE WIFI! I also love how they have turned the back of their location into what looks like a summer time hang out! With colorful painted walls, chairs under canopies, hoola-hoops and multiple bag toss games set out on an fake astroturf setting.. I thought it was so cool, and let's just say my almost 3 year old son did not want to leave this wonderful little indoor fun land! I asked the gal working if they ever rented the back space out for parties and they do, how cool is that! Super disappointed after having a wonderful experience the first time! The management is terrible. Who doesn't make adjustments to their menu if you are not allowed to have something. I have never experienced this before then am told that the worker who made the adjustments the first time I ordered there is going to be written up for it. What kind of customer service is this and nice way to treat your employees. Very sorry to the really nice employee who waited on me and gave wonderful customer service to the crappy assisted manager with horrible customer service. Never going back. read more

We were thrilled to see Big Acai at the Waukee Art Festival. The acai bowl was the perfect, most refreshing treat on a hot summer day. The acai sorbet is a great foundation, and then the granola and banana are on top. I got blackberries and then also paid for an add-on of mixed berries. I've had one in the past with peanut butter added too, and it was great. The serving sizes are fantastic and a great healthy meal alternative. These bowls of goodness, tho! I was skeptical when my friends told me I had to check out this truck because it would change my life. Well, they were right and I was wrong. This stuff is so tasty! I love the ability to customize your bowl. The fruit is always so fresh and pretty, the granola mix is to die for (yall should sell that), and the acai is so tasty. They are happy to answer any questions you are have, if you have dietary restrictions such as dairy free or vegan or gf. I first learned of Big Acai on Instagram when I saw a picture of one of the most beautiful bowls of food I have ever seen. I couldn't believe my luck when I discovered these bowls are available in Des Moines. I finally got my hands on one today in West Glenn around 4:15. I was a little surprised at how long the line was after they just opened at 4.. that was until I ate mine. I went for the Classic size ($6) and added strawberries, blueberries, almond butter, and coconut. It comes with banana and granola. I wasn't sure what to expect with the temperature and texture of the acai but it's similar to a frozen yogurt, which is awesome. You may be saying I can make that at home. Um, no ya can't. These are soooo delicious. Acai sorbet with granola and bananas and your choice of more toppings, other fruit, almond butter, honey, coconut etc. You have to try this. Holy yum. My coworkers have been frequenting this place, and have had nothing but great things to say about it, so I finally made the trip myself. For $8, I got a bowl of sweet, crunchy, acidic-y goodness and I haven't been this happy at lunch in a long time. I ended up buying a second bowl to take home to my husband. Toppings I got were strawberry and almond butter. I highly recommend tracking these guys down and giving it a try! Wow is all I have to say! I started trying out this business when they were a food truck and was instantly hooked. Who knew I would like so many fresh fruits in a dessert type bowl, and have it be healthy for me? The acai is so light and refreshing it's a must have at least once a week for me.
