I checked this food truck out to see what all the big hype is about. I never had an Acai bowl before and glad I tried it! The food truck is purple and cute-- you can't miss it. Their Facebook page does a great job of informing mostly on a daily basis where they will be located. This truck has a huge turnout and is very popular. The Acai bowl comes in three sizes and I chose the smallest one for $6. I thought it was plenty big. The base of what's included in the price is the acai itself which is sort of like a frozen smoothie/sorbet with the acai puree in it. It's very good . It tastes like what I imagined with a berry like flavor but less tart/sweet. It also comes with bananas and granola which are yummy. You get to pick one topping such as berries and many other items. I like the mixed berries! It's nice to have a healthy refreshing food item like this and I can't wait to eat it again!

    BlackBerry, with mixed berries added.

We were thrilled to see Big Acai at the Waukee Art Festival. The acai bowl was the perfect, most refreshing treat on a hot summer day. The acai sorbet is a great foundation, and then the granola and banana are on top. I got blackberries and then also paid for an add-on of mixed berries. I've had one in the past with peanut butter added too, and it was great. The serving sizes are fantastic and a great healthy meal alternative. Keep an eye on their Facebook page to see where they will be located next.

We found Rebel Chick BBQ parked at the Waukee United Methodist Church. The menu looked awesome! The food in the warmers looked great. With all transparency they were having a bit of a rough start with this event upon arrival... Power issues. Not entirely unexpected for a new rig. We were taking our food to go and had a 20+ minute drive to get home. More than likely we were going to need to warm the food up anyway once we got home. Not a big deal for us! We ordered the following: 2x pulled pork sandwich 1x 1/4 rack of ribs 1x mac n cheese 2x smoked baked beans The pulled pork sandwiches were piled high and we couldn't help picking at the meat that had overflowed from the buns and had fallen out into the basket. So good! Speaking of the buns they use a really nice bun here, for the pulled pork sandwiches, that holds up well! Too many times I've seen people resort to the cheap ones that fall apart in minutes to save money off the top...or to reduce the item cost to the customer. I can only speak for myself, but I'll gladly pay a little more for higher quality... The ribs were meaty and tender. Smoked and seasoned perfectly! The mac n cheese was really good! You could tell that it had been seasoned too and there was more to it than just the cheese sauce... Definitely need to offer this is a Large size too! Power issues aside this is a truck/trailer to watch! Once they get the kinks worked out they are going to be a force on the Des Moines metro food truck scene! Can't wait to try that brisket melt though! Follow their FB page for their schedule: https://www.facebook.com/61576700919262

My boyfriend bought the 14-hour braised steak (rich peppercorn reduction & balsamic infused caramelized onions). We both wanted to try it so we split it in half and the half portion was plenty filling for each of us AND it was absolutely delicious! When I found out it was a local brand I had to go to Hyvee to try the other flavors. So far the other flavor I've tried is the Chicken Sun dried & cherry tomatoes in a basil béchamel. It was so good! I started with a half portion but it was so good I ate the other in the same sitting. That was a mistake on my part because I was too full eating the whole thing! The pie may seem small but it is plenty filling for two meals. The nutrition facts on the back are based on a half serving and at half size the caloric intake is over 400 calories. But it's to be expected because these things are so good! I can't wait to try the other different flavors I bought of PIE MATES from Hyvee.

The ladies working the window were wonderfully delightful. So polite and smiles that just make your day a little brighter... The parking area around the truck is gravel, but spacious and with two entrances/exits off the road. They are a cash only truck. I ordered the Chori Pollo Burrito and a Pastor Torta, The total for the two items was $16 before tip. They present you with a beeper so you can wait for your order in your car. You can do that... But if you like the smell of seasoned cooking meat and vegetables you'll want to just stand there and enjoy a little fresh air and let your olfactory senses take you on a journey. After a bout with Covid I enjoy the taste and smell of food just a little bit more right now anyway. I was the only customer there when I arrived and it was a short wait. Bang for your buck... This is not a truck where you feel like you've overspent and walk away still hungry. You know those fat little babies...? When they're pudging up and look like they can only roll from one place to another? This burrito reminded me of the knee to the hip on one of those little roly poly rug rats. You know what I'm saying... Right? The torta was a little lighter in heft, but just as big. Each item filled its to go container, was accompanied with grilled onions and a roasted pepper, and two different hot sauces. The verde sauce was my favorite of the two. The meat and vegetables were cooked perfectly. The meats were seasoned nicely. Everything was fresh and tender. The roll the torta came on was soft, but the outside surface still had a little crunch to it. The creaminess of fresh avocado and cheese in the torta really hit the mark. I love my local Clive businesses and I wish I'd stopped in here sooner. Good people and good food. https://www.facebook.com/elburritoloco1406/

I wasn't sure if they took cards or not...and I haven't made it to an ATM lately so I've hesitated to stop by. But tonight was the night...! It was a brisk night, it had been windy, and was spitting snow earlier. After a quick trip (Kwik Star actually) to an ATM I whipped into the parking lot and headed to the window. I was greeted right away as I walked up. They do take cards. There was a payanywhere station on the counter. The menu is posted on the truck along with their prices. I ordered three quesa birria tacos and a barbacoa torta. Paid and tipped. They handed me a pager so I could wait for the food where it was a little warmer. That was much appreciated. It was a really short wait...I didn't even get halfway through the YouTube video I'd queued up. Lol Staff was friendly and the food was packaged well. After the short drive home I unpacked my food on the coffee table. The smell in the car was almost unbearable... It's a wonder I made it home before breaking into it. The food was fresh and hot. It came with the expected things on the side. A red hot sauce, onions, peppers, and limes. The beef in both the birria and barbacoa tasted great. The tacos were also topped with onions and cilantro. The torta with onions, cilantro, and avocado. I really enjoyed the roll the torta came on. A little hard and crunchy on the outside to hold things together and soft on the inside. It would almost be perfect for a proper cheesesteak...if you know you know. Unlike some other trucks these guys don't skimp on the meat. It could be dangerous having a truck with birria this close to home. Something the other two trucks nearby lack... With all transparency they're not my absolute favorite quesa birria tacos... They don't serve the side of consume for dipping. But they are good! And I don't need to burn through the gas to drive over to Flame or track down Nina's or Taqueria Marissa. I'm glad I stopped. Hopefully others will give them some business too. I'll definitely be a return customer and will be checking out more of their menu! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61553402785567&mibextid=LQQJ4d
