I have been a patron to several Açaí locations in Polk county. I have been to this one several times. The Açaí Bowls are good and comparable to other locations. They do seem to skimp on the Açaí base. The employees appear under trained in customer service. The finished product is placed on the counter and the order is shouted out aloud and left. Customers all look at each other trying to figure out whose order it is. I do believe some additional training would bring this location standards I. Line with the other spots. read more

After working out at Engineered Per4mance next door, a fresh smoothie was on my mind. While visiting Iowa, I typically don't eat the healthiest (thanks pork tenderloin sandwiches!), so I was thrilled to see Big Acai Bowls. I ordered the Tropical smoothie per the staff's recommendation, and my husband got a classic sized acai bowl with almonds. The tropical smoothie is made with mango, strawberry, chia, coconut, agave and banana. It was delicious and so filling. My husband's acai bowl was tasty too. I was particularly impressed with the smooth, fro-yo like consistency of it. There's some seating to sit down and enjoy your eats, or you can easily take it to go. Açaí was "okay" but not impressed with the establishment whatsoever- especially the employees as one was sitting on the counter eating her own açaí bowl while on social media (on phone) when we were asking questions and then as we hung out to eat our treat. I asked about the ingredients inside the gf granola due to other allergies I have and she nor the other gal had a way of knowing, which in my opinion is very unsafe and not helpful or accommodating to the safety of their customers (No binder with allergens listed, no labels to check, not willing to reach out to management to ask, etc.) Medium bowl was not even filled half way, so probably would of filled the small bowl. Bottom line the customer service and lack of help with allergies is what I find a big deal. read more

It was my first time here and I really enjoyed the texture and was surprised how much I really enjoyed it, visiting from atlanta this was a nice surprise I ordered an açaí base with strawberries, bananas, peanut butter, coconut flakes, and honey drizzle! LOVE LOVE LOVE BIG AÇAÍ!!!! This place is the bees knees! Everything is vegan by default and everything is done to perfection. I cannot sing their praises enough. The prices are great and you get an amazing, fresh product. The location was a little confusing for us to find the first time but we don't make it out to Ankeny all the time (admittedly we have been here more since we finally made it out here the first time) but it's just north of the big new HyVee. Love the bowls but the customer service is terrible. I went in to get a bowl this evening around 5pm and was the only one in. The two teenage girls sitting at the counter didn't say a word to me when I walked in and didn't say a single thing to me before I placed my order. When they handed me my bowl when it was ready all they said was "here you go". I said thank you and have a great night and neither of them responded. I recognize that younger teenagers these days have a hard time interacting face to face with others but teaching and expecting basic customer service skills to your employees is crucial. Not only for the patrons of the business to have a pleasant experience, but for the employees to learn the basics of customer service and treating others with respect. A customer service training would go a long way for these employees! Either that or don't hire teenagers that don't know how to interact with adults. First let me say I love Açaí Bowls and have since we lived out west. When I saw this place open I became very excited. Unfortunately the product a simply not on par with some of the better ones I have experienced. There is a learning curve so I am of high hopes that they will learn how to better handle the product. A proper bowl should have a smooth consistency and generally has some additional flavor mixed in to the base, be that peanut butter, coconut milk or other fruits. I will come back and try again with high hopes that they can take this up to a competitive level because I really want this concept to succeed. read more

This is a hidden treasure! I love the coffee smoothie! It has cashews, coffee grounds, cold brew, cacao nibs (i sub cacao powder) and agave! Yummy and not super sweet and energizing! The açaí bowl is so good too with peanut butter! The price is on point with all the freshness! You get bananas granola honey or agave in the bowls for free! I don't normally write reviews, but I have to share my experience with this place. My boyfriend has been in the hospital for almost a month and due to his condition, is on a very strict diet. I was trying to find something "out of the box" for him to eat that would work with his diet, but wasn't remotely close to hospital food. I called the store and spoke with the manager. I asked him if he could help me with figuring out what I could within the diet guidelines. He replied with "I would love to help, but I am not 100% sure on everything (regarding his diet) but I would really love to help. I am going to call Lynette (supervisor?) and give her your number, if that is ok, and have her give you a call." Not even 5 minutes later and she called me. I explained the diet and she went through everything with me that I could get him, and I mean everything. Nutritional value, health benefits, etc. She was extremely informative, kind, and very helpful. I thanked her and we hung up. She called me right back to verify her answer to another question I had brought up. She wanted me to know "for sure" that what I was about to purchase, would be a perfect match for his diet. I went to the store to place my order and explained to the worker what I was doing, and he was very helpful, understanding, and went above in his service. Sure enough, it was and he LOVED it!!! He had never even heard of Big Acaí before (I know), but now you have 2 very pleased, and loyal customers! Thank you to everyone involved with this experience!!! I tried Big Acai Bowls for the first time today after hearing about it from a Trip Advisor review. It's a small space that's connected to a gym behind the HyVee on State Street in Ankeny. I chose the classic size for $6 and shows chia seeds as my optional topping. I really liked the acai, as this was my first time trying it. The bowls come with granola and sliced banana on top .Customer service was friendly and the whole experience was very quick to get in and out with a bowl to go.
