First off I want to start off by saying I had a not so pleasant experience with the manager at Smoothie King and was very hesitant to go back because of how I was treated. I decided to give it another go and I am so glad I did. I was lucky enough to encounter the sweetest most friendly staff member out there, Natalie. She changed my experience. I came at 8:30 and the hours say 9 pm and no one took my order. super frustrating and someone was in there and the lights were on.

Great service. Delicious smoothies. Store is clean. Lots of menu choices. This will be our only smoothie place.

With so many smoothie places in the area, and this one's prices pretty high. I really expected better. I was very disappointed and so was my husband. They only sell health smoothies. The protein powder that goes into everything makes it grainy. And the flavors were pretty blah. I got the pumpkin seasonal drink, my husband got a banana strawberry and both had super weird textures with small sizes for the price. After a long drive from Cedar Rapids to Des Moines, I was hungry and looking for something healthy and fast. Smoothie King seemed like the perfect destination.... But I will likely never go back again. For starters, the customer service is in joint is non-existent. Who hurt these people? No smile, warm greeting, recommendations when I mentioned that I was a first timer. I was handed a menu however.... So that I didn't take up space at the counter. Next, the newbie didn't know how to enter my coupon into the register. He straight up told me he didn't know what he was doing and based on the long, weird silence that happened next, I was convinced that he wasn't going to even ask for help. He did. They bickered back and forth for a second because she showed him the correct way but he apparently knew a better way... Even though he was new and really didn't. Then came an uncomfortable 8 minute wait as no one behind the counter communicated, they didn't realize that my best friend ordered, and I received what has got to be the saddest excuse for a smoothie that I have ever experienced. My smoothie was a slushie.... I could have eaten it with a spoon. I ordered the strawberry flavor with added spinach and there was not a trace of berry flavor anywhere in those 32 ounces. Furthermore, considering that this beast had 55 grams of supposed protein in it, I was STARVING by the time I arrived home. Needless to say, I was unimpressed. For the $8.00+ price tag you should just go eat lunch somewhere.... This place will not satisfy ANY of your needs. read more

Stopped by on my way outta town. Smoothie king is way expensive like I want one 32 OZ smoothie dudes tryna make me throw 9 dollars that's just bonkers. Anyways this ones a 5/5 because, actually you know what it's barely a 5/5 because it's so hard to navigate the parking lot too it just ridiculous... anyways stoner Asian kid with a bad mustache is taking my order and as I pull up to the window I'm thinking to myself man I'm 30 cents short so I ask him to downgrade to a 20 oz. guy says no problem super chill. Anyways pay 6 bucks instead of a whole 9$. Meanwhile Kyle in the back makes the 32 oz and they give it to me anyways. I love smoothie king and have been to WDM at least once a week to get one so very excited to see one in Ankeny! Employees are friendly and restaurant is clean but the speed of service is very very slow. I understand speed comes with practice and training but almost 60 days after opening and you still wait about 10 min for a smoothie. I hope they can improve on the speed soon. read more

Tried this place for the first time this week and was totally disappointed in the customer service and the quality of the smoothie. It took the kid over 12 minutes to make one smoothie and then it was chunky and grainy. It tasted ok but the texture was so disgusting I couldn't drink it. Prices are too high for what you get too. Two people were inside "working" but only one of the two were taking orders for both inside and drive through, while the other person stood there arguing with the other about not wanting to help. I stopped in with a friend of mine who wanted to come here. Picture this, one person behind the counter. She does the order taking, the drive up window as well as preparing everything. So we asked where her assistants were. She said they all quit and went back to school, leaving her there alone to do everything. Now one would guess that they would have a sign in the window advertising for help? Nope, not at all. So... My friend ordered. The bill shows two taxes, the state sales tax and then an additional retail tax. on a 7 dollar drink, tax of 18 cents retail tax (whatever that is) and 30 cents sales tax. Hmmmm. OK so we are ordered, paid. There were six people in the store and us. It took 30 minutes of waiting for our Ginger Spinach blend. 30 minutes, The guy that came in after us was pacing back and forth and saying, "I am going to get my money back, " So we had to wait for each of the six before us, before we got our drink. The place is located at the far North end of Ankeny, a new shopping center, the sign well.. hard to read from right in front much less from the road. Place is clean, spotless. BUT the big issue is only one person to do everything. There were two cars in the driveup and they got tired of waiting for service. This place isn't going to make it unless the Franchise owner gets his or her head in the game There should be at least 3 people working. Two making the drinks and one taking orders. That one person could also make drinks in a bind. So conclusion is, yes it is expensive, yes they have open containers of stuff that should be covered (and if something flies in, a little extra protein for free) but they need to never have anyone work alone. I really don't understand how she could leave even to use the bathroom. I give it six months tops. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews. However, I waited at the Smoothie King drive through for several minutes and no one was there to take my order. There was a person in the parking lot with a Smoothie King shirt and drive-through headset chatting with someone. That person was gone when I went inside and was told that the drive through was "closed"... a mom with six kids just went in and I did not want to wait anymore since one person was working, so I then went to Tropical Smoothie Cafe because my pregnant wife wanted a smoothie. I noticed that there were close to 20 people there with five workers. I understand now why Smoothie King is almost always empty. Appalling customer service. read more

My absolute favorite! The Ankeny employees are so nice and patient. The app is so handy and Friday $5 32oz is nice! Totally recommended!
