A very simple pizza - tomato sauce, pepperoni, and mozzarella. We just stopped by to sample the cauliflower crust. The cauliflower crust was really crisp and tasty. Within the crust was a modest pool of oil that had separated from the cheese and pepperoni. We poured off the oil. What was left was heavy on the stomach. Taste was OK. This is a very loud place, and if you have hearing issues you'll have them here. Complicated by the fact that you are designing your pizza as they assemble it. Plenty of back and forth questions where communication gets confused. Staff was friendly and industrious. All in all Blaze was OK, but didn't live up to expectations. Urp. read more

The pizza is always delicious, but at this particular establishment the counter where they were preparing the pizzas was a mess. There was food everywhere. It wasn't dirt, but left over toppings and sauce from previously made pizza. There was so much food on the counters I was losing my appetite. The tables to sit at were also very dirty. They were not good about picking up after others had left. Their pizza is delicious and staff is very friendly. Just take care of the mess. read more

First off I must confess I consider myself a tough to please customer when it comes to pizza. Not only do I make pizzas at home, I make my own dough and sauce (sauce occasionally dough almost exclusively). Also to make things more difficult I've been to the meccas of good pizza(IMO) in Brooklyn and NYC. Roberta's,Lucali's,DiFara's,Best pizza to name a few. Good pizza is hard to come by in the Capital District,but it does exist. The crust is a big deal for me. Even though I prefer a thin crisp crust I also enjoy a thicker crust if everything else falls in to place. (DeFazios,Sovrana,Marino's,Fiorello's Importing to name a few here in the area)I also admit that I need to try more places around town because I know they're out there. So Blaze review before I run out of ink. A 4 star taste on a 1.3-1.6 crust. I've only had it once and I bought 2 11" pies. Just my opinion. Went to dinner for my nephews birthday, we ordered online from the table rather than waiting in the long line. We did this so we could visit. TWO HOURS LATER when we didn't get our order yet, we were told to just hop online and reorder. We STILL had to wait for them to get through OTHER online orders before they gave us our new fresh order. We had already paid and everything. I don't recommend coming here for lunch if you are in a hurry. I ordered on the app for 12:30 pick up as I only have a half hour lunch and takes 10 mins to get there. When I arrived at 12:32 there was a huge line. I went to pick up my pie and they didn't even start it yet. They claimed they just got the order. The girl didn't even care. Just said "Sorry". Waited about 15 mins for it and was late going back to work. Never again. Don't know if you can blame it on the employees or the app but the I'm tired of businesses that can't deliver on their promises and expect you to just accept it. I decided on a vegan veggie pizza and a ovalinni mozzarella salad. The flavor of the sauce on the pizza was very robust, flavorful and the veggies were so fresh. Is it great pizza? No it is not. But I have to admit that I am indeed a fan. Although, I am a fan with a lot of caveats. Primarily, because I don't see this as pizza. I come to Blaze for the vegetarian flatbread. My wife is always hounding me that I should be eating more vegetables. My doctor is on my case that I should be eating less meat and cheese. And my kids sometimes need a quick, convenient dinner out of the house, and one of the few things the two of them can agree upon are Blaze's Italian meatballs on a pie with just enough sauce for flavor. Because I get so many vegetables on this thing, I sometimes will opt for the vegan cheese. It's so buried underneath everything else, that it's creaminess doesn't quite register as a cheese substitute. So I build flavor. I start with the spicy sauce. I always get fresh basil leaves. And from there, I go by visual appeal. Sometimes the red onions are cut super thick... no thank you. Usually the sauteed onions are pale and greasy... I'll skip those. But the artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, mushrooms, kalamata olives, and even summer squash are usually just fine. And then I get the whole thing topped with as much arugula as I can get, with a drizzle of olive oil to dress the greens. Don't forget, it's absolutely critical to request the pizza "well done". Those extra few seconds in the oven crisp the bottom and provide even more flavor by the way of char around the outer edges. If you are ordering fewer toppings, you can also request that they don't pop any forming crust bubbles. Otherwise, their default mode is to pop 'em. Philistines. The price is right, even though the wait may be long. I'd love to see these guys actually hand pulling the dough, instead of using those infernal pressing and stamping machines. I think they could do it from a speed of service perspective. The bottleneck in their operation is not rounds of dough, but rather dealing with fussy jerks like me, who take their time loading up pizzas with a stupid quantity of toppings. But that's what makes the place special. If that ever went away, my kids would just have to learn to love better meatball pizza elsewhere. read more

I love the idea of "fast food" pizza and let me tell you, the pizza is good. Unfortunately the service is not. Every time I have gone here, it's a different staff so their turn over must be high. This particular time I went in on a Sunday night and there was NO ONE in line, yet it took my two pizzas over 10 minutes to make due to poor communication and the pizza making being really slow. I will still come here because the pizza is that good, I just wish the staff was nicer. If you're in a hurry for a thin, gas-fired, decent tasting, pizza with the maximum choices of toppings, this may be the place for you. But don't go when they are likely to be busy. There are a lot of positive things to say and like about the pizza here. And of course there are a few negatives also. Most people describe Blaze Pizza as the Chipotle of pizza establishments. I can't make that comparison because I've, maybe surprisingly, never eaten at a Chipotle. But it sounds like how I hear people describe the operation of Chipotle. You queue up upon entry to place your pizza order. You can see the pizza dough being portioned out. You can see the machine pressing the dough into a pizza shell. You can either select one of the signature pizzas and not change any of the ingredients, or you can build your pizza with an almost unlimited number of toppings. Your uncooked pizza works its way down the line to the cashier and the staff who mantain the oven. After you pay for your pizza it is cut into 6 slices and served to you. It probably only needed to be in the oven for about 3 or 4 minutes. The pizza tastes good. Or at least the signature White Top ($7.95) that we ate was very good. It came with a white cream sauce, mozzarella, bacon, garlic, oregano, and arugula. Now some negatives. As implied in my opening paragraph, when it is busy (weekends, lunch hour, dinner time) the line of people can me long. If someone in front of you can't make up their mind on toppings, you may become impatient waiting for your pizza to move along the line. Your pizza may get put into the oven before someone in front of you if it is ready before theirs. Now, if there is a delay of people paying the cashier in front of you, your pizza will be out of the oven before you get to the cashier and it will sit there until the cashier clears you. So your pizza may not be as hot as you would like. There should be better access to napkins and condiments like crushed pepper and grated cheese. Once you have chosen a place to sit, if you need napkins you have to go in search of them. Likewise for the pepper and cheese, and there is only one shaker each of crushed pepper and grated cheese at the counter where you find the napkins. Staff were friendly, however. read more

I have never ordered a personalized thin crust pizza made on an assembly line before, but seeing the dough roll out on the table and being machine pressed into a perfectly round disc, then sauced and topped off with your favorite cheese(s), meat(s), + vegetable(s) is pretty cool. Aside from their Signature Pizzas, you can build your own with all the toppings your heart desires under one price (~$8) or stick with the Simple Pie ($5) or a one topping pizza (~$7). Choose from basic red sauce, spicy red (ooh!), or white sauce, cheeses (mozzarella, ricotta, gorgonzola, parmesan, etc) and throw in something like pepperoni, sausage, smoked ham, bacon, turkey meatballs, olives, onions, jalapeño, bell peppers, pineapple, chopped garlic, basil, arugula, pesto, olive oil, and more. Placed an online order at 5:28 for pickup 6:00-6:05. Arrived 6:07 to a mess with people standing around and unfilled orders. Around 6:35 was told had no idea where my order was in line so asked for a refund and the person left and I was told that might take 10 minutes. So now I get to do a credit card dispute in a few days. The best part was the staff admitted they had incorrectly marked my order as "picked up" in the app presumably to cover up their failure to prepare it on time. The incompetent befuddled staff tried to blame corporate but they had zero communication with people waiting in line and kept taking orders so not sure why they think they're not at blame here.... read more

This place is consistently slow with getting pizza out based on the last few times I've come here. It wasn't particularly busy and still, from the time we walked in the door to when we finally sat down to eat, it must've been in the neighborhood of 40 minutes. The pizzas all came out at staggered times so my pizza and the other person in our party's pizza were cold. Even the pizza that came out last was barely warm. Add on top of all this that my pizza was dry and they skimped on toppings. I got the Red Vine, which is basically just a margarita pizza, and the six pieces of mozz they put on it were the size of quarters. My pizza was mostly sauce. I couldn't help but notice while I stood at the register waiting for what felt like an eternity for our pizzas to come out that the oven was completely full, cooked pizzas were lined up on the edge of the oven, half out of it, and the counter where they go when they come out was completely full as well. I'd say there were about 20 pizzas total. There weren't that many people in line so I have to assume a lot of these are online orders. It would seem that this location is not optimized to handle the capacity of online orders that they're receiving and as a result, the guy boxing up orders and handing them out lost track of people's orders and everyone in line waited very long for their pizza. I won't be coming back. I waited way too long for cold, mediocre pizza. Do yourself a favor and get pizza from a real pizza joint in town. read more

You can opt for the signature options or do a build your own for 8.95. I got sausage, mushrooms, black olives, green peppers, shredded mozzarella and finished with the pesto drizzle. The drizzle had good garlic flavor. The vegetables were fresh. One can share a pie or have enough for leftovers depending on how hungry are. If you are going around dinner time, be prepared to wait. I waited for 25 minutes. There is an option to order online- it saves time. It will get in the oven once you arrive. A tip: Try to not overload your pizza (5-6 toppings at most). The crust is thin and your toppings may end up on the plate. Or if you want to try multiple toppings, do half and half on a pizza. The staff will accommodate. The food was great, but some room for improvement. We arrived during the lunch time rush so I will excuse the lines and short wait. The harried staff were in task mode and it wasn't a Chick-Fil-a "My Pleasure!" experience (which I actually find a bit saccharine so prefer low key and to the point). When we had a question about the ordering they were very helpful and polite. When it settled down they seemed to relax as well. Food came out great and this would be a 4 star review (Modern Apizza in New Haven, CT sets the bar for 5 star pizza), but a few things could have been better. The owner messaged me about those issues and it is clear they are taking action. We will be back. If you are concerned or had a bad experience, they seem to be genuinely trying to improve and I would encourage you to give them another shot. read more

This is the pizza version of fast food. The lines can be long, very long at lunch. Luckily, we went at an off hour and got waited on right away. The girl explained how it worked saying I could create a custom pizza or order off the menu. I ordered the red vine because it had the least calories and came with lots of vegetables. My son ordered a custom pepperoni. The only way he'll eat pizza. I got tap water and my 12 year old son ordered root beer. I was impressed by the all natural, cane sugar sodas. If I wasn't trying to be healthy I I would have ordered some myself. They also had nice looking flavored lemonades. The pizzas themselves took about 10 minutes and were cracker thin crusted. The sauce was also thinly applied and tasted more or less like tomato paste. My son liked his a lot except for the sauce. He had me wipe it off for him. I thought mine was quite good as a snack but not quite satisfying for lunch. The flavor was average. If I go again I would do a custom pizza with lots of veggies and pesto. A definite welcome addition to Stuyvesant Plaza! I attended this afternoon for their grand opening and to take advantage of the free build your own pizza they offered. I went in around 12:30, and was surprised to not see a line out the door or a packed dining room. But, I don't think people really knew they were opening this location, unless you work in the plaza or nearby. I was greeted by a pleasant young man, who handed me a menu, and asked if I 'liked' the Blaze Pizza facebook page, which I happened to do the night before. Liking the page is the stipulation for getting a free pizza. He stamped my hand, and I waited in line for maybe 15 minutes until I got to the assembly line to order. The person initially taking your order starts an order sheet for you, which happens to be a liner for the take home box as well. They have several pre selected pizza options for you to choose from, but I opted for the build your own pizza to take advantage of the plentiful toppings. Everyone on the "assembly line" was overly friendly. I made a pizza consisting of regular sauce, shredded mozzarella, and ovalini mozz, parmesan, sausage, bacon, pepperoni, chopped garlic, and fresh basil. The cooking time was maybe another 5-8 minutes after my last topping was ordered. Once I got to the end of the line, I noticed that the restaurant was quickly filling up, and I was relieved I came when I did. But, the staff handled themselves great, and the process was surprisingly painless considering it was a grand opening, with a nice giveaway. My pizza would have cost just under $9.00 regularly, but I paid $0.00 :) The pizza itself was delicious, the toppings were plentiful, and flavorful. The crust was nice and crispy. My only gripe is that there were several large chunks of garlic throughout my pizza, but I'll chalk that up to them being busy, and will most definitely be back again so that they can redeem themselves! Overall, I think this is a great addition, and they will thrive just like Chipotle does. While it's not gourmet by any means, it provides a great value and unique pizza experience. It was quickly replaced our other regular pizza joints as our GO TO for pizza! This Stuyvesant Plaza location boasts a much larger seating area, garage style front widow for indoor-outdoor seating (in better weather of course), and an open pantry where you can see where the magic happens. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. You pick you pizza toppings, however many you want for one flat rate. They bake it in their pizza oven and in a few minutes you'll be devouring some delicious thin crust pizza. Plenty of seating inside, sort of hip vibe but very family friendly for those with picky eaters. Prices are reasonable. Great location, stop in, you will be hooked too! read more

Dear Blaze: Zena, Goddess of Fire, loves you. After a busy week at work it was time to Veg Out. This is one of their "signature pizzas" ($7.95) - mozz on the bottom topped with small, small amounts of gorgonzola, mushroom, zucchini, and red onion - I asked for a bit of green pepper, too - topped with a few dollops of red sauce. This 10" pie didn't look like much. Skimpy, even. Until it met Blaze. That hot, hot oven cooked it up crisp, with a slight char on the bottom, everything got all nice and melty. If there was too much stuff I don't think the final effect would have been nearly as good. And that 10" pie could easily have fed two for a pretty good price, I think. I ate 4/6 slices and for me, almost heroic. FF did a 180 on me and ordered the Meat Eater - pepperoni, meatballs, red onion, mozz, red sauce on the bottom (also $7.95). Traditional, not too spicy, rich and pretty tasty. We both agreed that the crispy finish to the crust made these pizzas just that much better. The space is large, and cold, and noisy - so much so that it was even hard to hear the servers on the assembly line. But it's clean, and bright, and they had the front room staffed to keep things tidy. Everyone was very nice and the line moved quickly. The tables are bare - if you want shakes of garlic salt or oregano or red pepper flakes these are on the sideboards. The only paper napkin dispenser is in the back back corner near the fountain drinks and forks and where folks were waiting for their order - very inconvenient. But they are reading Yelp, I assume, so please put napkin holders on the tables. Thanks. This was the grossest place ever! We went to the ladies room first and there were bugs in the hallway and bugs swarming the bathroom garbage! The garbage had to be there for a long time to create a swarm of bugs. We left! I shamelessly love this place. Nope, it's not the best pizza I've had or even close to it, but it's good and it's fun and there are a bunch of options. Think Chipotle (with way more choices) but with pizza. The people working here are always friendly, helpful and patient (which is big because I am indecisive and probably super annoying). First you go up and tell them you want a pizza and a few minutes later they call you that your dough is ready. Then you move down the production line and put whatever on it your little heart desires. Then they put it in the oven (only needs a few minutes) and voila! There are a handful of menu options or you can always make your own. That's my go-to. The nice thing is you can choose as many toppings as you'd like and it's the same price. They have gluten free dough for those who care. The traditional dough is nice and thin which I like. Could be crunchier, but it's still good. I've enjoyed every pizza I've gotten here, none have disappointed. It lasts me two meals and is just under $10 which I don't think is terrible, since like I said it is easily two meals. They have plenty of seating here and it's always been clean when I've come in. OK so I go to this place with my main squeeze. Built on the chipotle model of fresh food, prepared as you like. This place appears to be a recipe for success. The pizza I had was Italian sausage with spicy sauce, pepperoni, basil and extra mozzarella. After a brief wait watching your food cook it came out extremely hot with perfect crispy crust. The pie that was excellent. After spending eight dollars for the pie and about two bucks for a lemonade I left leaving full and completely satisfied!! I will be back! read more

Pizza is meant to be street food, bawdy and sloppy....but we are in the suburbs and it is Father's Day, there are the minions to consider! I have to say this place delivers in spades, from the quality of service and food, the cleanliness of the cavernous outpost to the genuine patience (or they're all great actors) of the very busy employees.
