This company is absolutely the worst! No shows on appointments, no return calls etc. My exterior glass broke on my Twilight fireplace and I ordered one on 2/19/19. Signed document, gave credit card info and asked for a ETA as I could not use my fireplace. NO RESPONSE! Called yesterday, left my phone number. NO RESPONSE! Called this a.m. to check on the status, Daisy Rodriquez (service Coordinator) actually answered the phone. Told her my situation, ( I actually talked to her when ordering glass) Silence and then "I'll check on the part and call you back. NO CALL BACK! Called back in afternoon, left message, NO CALL BACK! Unfortunately this is the only place around who services Heat & Glo around here. Anyone who deals with this company is nuts! Never again!!!!! Worst ever! read more

We have a functioning gas insert fireplace, but it had a small gas leak. We could eliminate the odor by periodically turning on the fireplace with no incidents of any flame flare-up. We contacted Blaze about the gas leak. They referred us to a plumber named (Believe it or not). Marco Polo. When he and his assistant came out, they took our fireplace apart and, when they reassembled, could not get it to function again. In other words, we could not smell gas, but they broke the fireplace. It no longer functioned... and they charged us $160. Probably too late but long story short... a company from half-moon bay came out and repaired the fireplace for $170. The fact that Blaze referred us to such an incompetent plumber does not speak well for Blaze. read more

I called this place for a repair and they asked for photos of my fireplace. I sent them 11 days ago and did not hear back. I sent 6 follow-up emails and Daisy responded to none of them. I called her again today and she said they don't work on those fireplaces. Why did it take 11 days to tell me this? Why did she not reply to my 6 emails?? Five star service from start to finish: Telephone receptionist processed my order efficiently and seamlessly. Service tech arrived on schedule; assessed problem with my fireplace; performed service; tidied-up after service and even cleaned the glass panel at the front of the unit. Echoing other people's reviews about lack of responsiveness. No prospective customer should have to work so hard to give business to a company! Over the last few weeks my husband tried multiple times via phone and email to finalize a fireplace install quote. The point of contact was Steve, who visited our job site and met with our contractor. Yet the proposal came from Jeff and unfortunately it didn't take into account a key feature we wanted and had discussed with Steve. When I asked Jeff to add that feature he told me to ask my contractor to provide some measurements. When my contractor tried to reach Jeff, he didn't answer; so he called Steve, who said he would update Jeff with the info needed which Steve already had because he previously visited the job site. After all this, did anyone get back to me with an updated quote that day? NO. Worst of all, when I contacted Steve to ask for the quote, all he said was to direct my questions to Jeff. Complete and utter runaround nonsense!!! read more

Excellent customer service! I had a massive fireplace tear down and rebuild. Ian was fantastic and handled all of the communication between himself and my contractor. Once installed, there were problems with the insert's fan: first only one setting worked instead of three, and second, the fan was alot louder then at the showroom. This was not the fault of Blaze, but rather the manufacturer. Steve was excellent in coordinating with the manufacturer for new parts and Jerry, the repairman was excellent in troubleshooting and installing the new products. Although this took about three months and three or four more service calls to get everything working properly, Steve and Jerry were there every step of the way, and never left me hanging out to dry. Steve from Blaze Fireplaces is awesome! Recently, the Heatilator gas fireplace at our house stopped working. Just stopped. No good reason that we could tell. None of the children had recently kicked a ball into it that we knew of, no contractor had been near it, nobody had left it on for an unreasonable amount of time, none of the usual culprits. I decided to blame it on age, since I think it is ugly and it being broken worked into my secret plan to redo the fireplace and actually the whole wall for that matter. My lovely husband tried to fix it himself, but that did not work. ;-) So we decided to call in the experts. Blaze, seemingly, in the Bay Area, is the only repair story in town. Uh oh. I had used them on the sales end for clients but had never used them for service. Eventually, we coordinated a date with Steve Dollar from Blaze. He immediately suspected the problem, took it apart, and showed us what was wrong. Nature, that's what. A spider had built a nest in the pilot assembly. So, "man vs. nature" had reared its ugly head in suburbia. Spider pheremones are super-close in scent to an additive in the gas for the fireplace. So the spider builds a nest in the pilot assembly and then of course, that nest is killed by the gas, but the damn thing can't light until the nest is removed. (Who knew!?!) I had no idea the sex lives of spiders would foil my demo/reconstruction/new fireplace plan. But once again, Steve to the rescue. He removed the ugly brass trim and took off the also ugly glass doors that don't actually work but add an extra layer of child-proofing. I decided we don't need the child-proofing any longer since all the kids are tweens and teenagers and if they don't understand cause and effect of fire by now, they never will. The whole thing looks so much better. So I am thankful to the spider who sacrificed her young and to Steve who fixed so many problems all at once. In a job where I am constantly fighting fires due to someone else's incompetence, or because the chain of command is so long and the ball is often dropped somewhere along the line, it is rare to be completely over-the-moon because of a service call and so I thought the moment definitely needed to be celebrated. p.s. I rarely write negative reviews.In fact the only other one I've ever written was for this company. Blaze installed a log insert set for our fireplace a few years ago, and we were very happy with it. But I've had to have it serviced twice since then, and both times the effort it took to get someone out here was inexcusable. Blaze has the worst customer service I have ever encountered. The most recent service took 3 or 4 months from the time of my request until the completion of the job. Appointments are difficult to get, phone calls go unreturned, excuses made. On top of the long wait, I was billed over $900 for parts and labor. I have no idea if that's a fair charge or not, but it certainly seems excessive to me. ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS... I have no other way to describe their service. The door frame of my fireplace bent, probably due to the heat, and the paint is chipping off. Not the end of the world, but it looks like crap and I want it fixed. Blaze installed the appliance so I contacted Steve back in September to see what he could do. We now are November 18 and NOTHING has happened. First, Steve took forever to return my calls. Secind, when he did he told me he had to check with the manufacturer I got a very strong feeling he really didn't care about my problem. Another 2 weeks passed by and I received no news whatsoever, not even an acknowledgement of my calls and emails. When I finally heard back the answer I got was that my lifetime warranty doesn't apply to this issue. To me, a fireplace door that can't take some heat sounds like the kind of defect that should fall under a warranty. So Steve asked me to send pictures and said he would talk to the Lennox rep. I sent the pics almost a month ago and Steve has been MIA ever since. I called him again today to no avail and I have sent him 3 emails over the past 4 weeks, and I haven't received a single answer. I am really fed up and have decided to take my business somewhere else. 6 weeks to take care of something minor like this is just unjustifiable. On their website they advertise "Quality products. Excellent service"... Says who???? I got neither one nor the other.... read more

So, I have to break down the star ratings since some of the people here actually were competent. I give the sales guy 4 stars. He was knowledgeable and helped us select the appropriate unit. The initial installer gets 4 stars since they came when they said they would and it all seemed to work fine. The final installation, no stars. They were late three times and didn't call even though I was taking off work and waiting for them at my house. When they did finally come the guy had an attitude and was banging all his tools around on our new floor. Since he was late I wasn't there when he did the final installation and he installed the wrong screen and gave us the wrong controller. So we had to call them to come out again. The same thing happens, he is late, and doesn't install the controller properly. Finally after many frustrating calls the head installer comes out and fixes it all. I just have to ask, how does one company make this many screw ups?! read more

Blaze... I really wanted to love you. The showroom is nice. You get an idea of what a fireplace will look installed vs looking at catalog or internet photos. People were fairly helpful. Paid everything in full right away & thought I made a nice purchase. Problem came 2 to 3 months later. Received a bill for an additional few hundred dollars. After calling them about 4-5 times leaving messages for the person who was supposed to explain the bill, I was told that this was the shipping charge it costs the company to have the fireplace to deliver to their warehouse. The next few months, I would leave a message...receive no phone call back & continue to get a bill in the mail. I was never told of this charge beforehand otherwise I would have bought this elsewhere for less. I even asked the salesperson if this was the full payment before I paid & he said yes. Later I was told that it didn't matter that he said that because he doesn't know what he's talking about. Anyhow, really poor customer service read more

Blaze (at Shamrock in San Rafael) was 1 of 2 businesses we visited. Our experience was that of non-returned phone calls and emails (even after we contacted them again almost begging for a quote). We were also promised a pre-Christmas installation. We went to another company in San Rafael, had none of the problems we experienced at Blaze, and tonight are enjoying a lovely gas fire. read more

Oh lord, the worse ever. A 10-minute service call cost $425. Didn't want to use this company, but it is the only one that services our brand of fireplace. (Town and Country) Next time I'll throw the fireplace away. They claim to have replaced a $200 part. Housekeeper says never happened. Okay, get this: $225 per call (plus parts, labor, fountain pen ink and tax) PER FIREPLACE. We requested they stay away from the downstairs fireplace. Wife called the company and quietly told the lady that we would never, ever use them again. Strongly recommend you find somewhere else. read more

This has been my experience with Blaze so far: I visited Blaze Fireplace multiple times over 2-3 months while deciding what fireplace we wanted to install in our house. We discussed with Daniel each time that we wanted to set up our unit similarly to the metal show unit in the showroom, with open space above it and exposed venting. The venting in this unit is black, and there is no other venting visible in the store. I wasn't told at any point that there were other options/colors/styles for venting. We had Jeff visit our house and see the space and measure the venting we would need, again explaining our design with visible venting and showing the drawing our designer had made. We eventually decided to splurge on a top-of-the-line Ortal fireplace for $17,000, expecting this to be the highlight of our renovation. Instead, it has been a stressful experience which has delayed our whole project. - On the day we placed our order, we decided to also purchase a physical switch instead of just the remote. We asked Daniel to add this to our order. It wasn't until later that we realized this hadn't been added. - We ordered the fireplace and were told that there was a unit in LA that could be brought to the SF warehouse. Otherwise if we didn't buy that one, we would have to wait 2-4 weeks for one to be delivered from Israel. - When we requested delivery of the unit, it took more than a week to set up a delivery date. I arranged to take a vacation day from work (using up time I was planning to take as paternity leave after my child is born in November). 11pm the night before the scheduled delivery, I'm told that the delivery is cancelled and has to be rescheduled. - Jeff visits our house again to answer questions. He mentions that there are two different colors/types of venting. Daniel sends me pictures and we note again that we want the black venting, as was shown to us in the shop every time we visited and when we placed the order. I confirm with our initial quote that it mentions only "15ft venting with vertical termination" with no mention of color, galvanized steel, etc. Nothing that indicates we had a choice or that the cost would be different for black venting. - Our unit is delivered a week after our initial delivery was cancelled, causing delays in our project. Our contractors says that three people arrived to deliver the fireplace, and they could not lift it properly and required assistance from my contractor and his assistant to get it upstairs. (Why weren't there enough delivery people to adequately deliver the fireplace?) He notes a dent in the wall on the staircase landing from the delivery which he will now charge us to repair. - 10 days after we initially said we needed the black venting, I get an e-mail from Daniel that the black venting has to be special ordered and is extra, and that is takes another 10 days. Why wasn't this ordered when we first said we wanted it 10 days ago? That contributed to more delays. Also, this is the first time we're told the black venting has an extra cost. Daniel implies that I should know this, somehow, and that they rarely use the black venting so it's a premium option. I don't know how I'm supposed to know that, given that this is the first Ortal fireplace I've ordered. So, in summary, the fireplace has caused delays in our whole renovation project, the order was placed incorrectly with the wrong switch and venting, we weren't told there were venting options that cost extra or that the display unit was an atypical example, and in delivering the unit the deliverymen caused damage to our property that needs repair. This has been a terrible purchasing experience, and I regret my purchase even before my fireplace is installed. read more

I would highly avoid using this place to purchase your fireplace. I only wish that we would have looked at yelp instead of trusting our contractors recommendation. We went into the showroom and was able to pick out the fireplace we wanted. I even picked out the cover, 'Clean Face' which implies a clean face (in actuality, that is very misleading...see below). Weeks later we purchased and installed. However, instead of the fireplace babysitter person (I say that b/c he had very little knowledge and lacked customer service) asking or providing information about what we planned to do about a mantel or leaving clean....he said nothing. It is only after installation that we now understand we need to finish up the edges, such as tile/marble. Of course as mentioned prior, I believed a 'Clean Face' finish to be a clean face. Even the field rep that came and saw the space, didn't bother mentioning our plans for the edge finish, but of course she took our money. The sales rep did tell the contractor about a trim kit, but of course had no other specifications other than sending us instructions for the kit. And when I went back to the store, the same fireplace babysitter person basically implied that I should have known that there would be some type of marble or mantel needed. It seems he was under the assumption that I purchase and install fireplaces in my house on a monthly basis and should know. There are many other places to purchase fireplaces in area and I would AVOID BLAZE AT ALL COSTS. Furthermore, their showroom is embarrassing and based on that, I should have left immediately and gone elsewhere. (So now we are in a place that we need to go find a vendor of Heat and Glo to purchase trim kit. At this point I wished we were done. Based on other reviews, I am not at all confident that if there are any other issues, they will be resolved quickly) EDIT (12/08/2016): I was finally able to get what I needed from the store, HOWEVER, if you choose to come here, I would only deal with Susie, she is the most knowledgeable person at this business. read more

I ordered gas logs by phone. $422.50 plus tax for in store pickup. I was surprised to find product on my doorstep a week later without invoice. I called my bank and Blaze added delivery fee of $175-unauthorized. I had to call to get my statement. Left message for owner to call back. He left a message that he'd called and spoke to someone and they had authorized the charges. No, they did not speak to anyone here. They continued this lie when my bank notified them of dispute. I got stuck with bill of $623.53. Anyone who lies twice, I'd NEVER do business with again. Shame on you Bret/Blaze Fireplace. Public, you have been warned. read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE!!! This place is a HORRIBLE place to get anything done timely, correctly, & thoroughly. Once the job was done, we were unsatisfied and complained many times about their messy, dirty, irresponsibly, and lying workers. If you have CARPET & HARDWOOD FLOORS, beware of these people messing them up when they enter your new, used, or old home. They will not lay down cloth to prevent scratches, oils, and filth from damaging your floors and carpets. We refused to pay, so they placed a lien onto our property. They would refuse to compensate damages their workers incurred from their incompetence. I prefer avoid confrontation as long as you are honest with what happened. Obviously they do not care for their customers when they try to take your money. Their workers are probably relatives, friends, or acquiescence they protect even when they are in the wrong. I finally decided to pay it off. When I requested for the lien document they took 2 months to prepare this. Their accountant, Eleen, was extremely rude when leaving messages. She implied that because they waited for our payment that we should be patient enough to wait for the document. Then again, they rushed to place a lien and took nearly 3, yes, three months to prepare a document. This document really took only two days, when I pushed them to do so. Their excuse to me was to be patient because they were patient to wait for my payment. I do not think if someone files a lien, that shows any character of being patient. They were not patient nor helpful or friendly. I would NEVER work with these people again. Their are dozens of different places, so WHY? please ask yourself WHY? Why do to Blaze when you can find others. Even their reviews everywhere else mentions the same thing. read more

We were in the market for two units - a high-BTU direct-vent fireplace and an insert to replace a log set - probably close to a 10,000 dollar purchase. I spent an hour touring the showroom -- which, while nice, is where the positives end -- and going over options with the sales guy (forget his name, sorry). He took down my info and promised a quote in the next few days. A week later, I called him, and he promised a quote by end-of-day. Nada. No follow-up, no quote, nothing. I guess they didn't want our business. Fortunately, that same day I continued down the Peninsula and visited The Fireplace Element in Mountain View. They got my business and we are loving our installation! Not sure what the deal was, but maybe they're not interested in dealing with home owners. I won't say "don't waste your time", because maybe if I were there with cash-in-hand things would've been different. Can't speak to their prices or installation team because they never let it get that far. read more

Awful company to deal with. ridiculously unprofessional. We have a $18,000 Ortal fireplace supplied and installed by Blaze. I have been calling daily for almost two weeks to all four of their locations, San Francisco , San Carlos, San Rafael as well as Santa Rosa and no one picks up in Customer service and repairs to schedule service appointments. No one calls back. No one answers emails. Interestingly enough. .the SALES department at all four locations picks up immediately. Do not waste your money or time. You will eventually need service and if the company who supplies your expensive fireplace will not stand by their work or product then you should go with another company. read more

One star for what I'm assuming will be a beautiful new gas fireplace (if it's ever done being installed). MINUS ONE STAR for being flaky on the ordering process: they ordered the insert but not the mantle/surround, so we had to wait another three weeks for that. MINUS ONE STAR for a dicey job installing the fireplace: they came out twice to finish installing without the correct parts to do so. Now they're trying to charge us for some broken pieces even though we're under warranty. MINUS ONE STAR for being dicey about the mantel installation: they blew off the whole first appointment only to come a day later. Then they arrived so late that I wasn't able to be here to supervise the work. When I finally saw it we had to make an adjustment so the installer was here till 8pm! MINUS ONE LAST STAR for wasting so many hours of my life. Between the 20 phone calls and emails, and about 20 hours of waiting for technicians who aren't showing up, I wish I could bill Blaze for 40 hours of my time. After paying thousands of dollars for the product, I'd hope some good service would follow. read more

We've worked with Blaze to keep our SF condo fireplace working for years. They have always been responsive and given us the kind of advice and service I would expect from a friend-- helping us make an informed decision by providing all the options, pros and cons rather than just telling us what to do. We have had them come out twice and they were able to fix a problem we thought might even involve buying an entire new unit relatively quickly and inexpensively, which was a big relief! I also like their email invoice system, which made it easy to understand charges in advance and to pay once the service was complete. read more

The technician was responsible, prompt and effective but the company does not offer ANY HELP over the phone, on the internet or small tips even if you are a long time customer (for over 5 years I have used their service). They want to just charge you the $200 service fee every year per fireplace to come out and "clean" or check your fireplace. This business is here to fleece you, do NOT install a fireplace from them because the service fees after the fact will make you regret it forever, every year. I had a very simple issue that they could have helped me but they don't even talk to you, they just want you to pay the service fee every year. read more

I called Blaze, San Rafael to confirm their hours. I was tpold that they were open until 4:30 but no later. I arrived at 3:45 to find the gates locked. I called San Francisco, the main office, and the phone was answered by someone who told me he was the one who had answered my call but he had no idea that the call had been rerouted from San Rafael. I pointed out that I didn't call the San Francisco number originally and that if Blaze was going to forward calls to San Francisco, it should at least know where the call came from so they could give the correct information.He also seemed less that interested that the Blaz internet ad on Google specifically says that Blaze San Rafael is open until 4:30. The only good news is that I found another local fireplace retailer who gave me flawless service and quoted me 15% less on the exact same fireplace, parts and installation. I will never go to Blaze again. One star is as low as you can rate them and that is a generosity read more

Love the showroom. Was a tiny bit put off initially by the lack of enthusiasm with my questions. Went to them because we have a Town and Country fireplace and the vent cap needed replacement, and we were considering updating the look inside. I was given a card for a service person who after a week did not return my call. Called again and after a few days received a call to schedule the vent cap installation and a fireplace service. I paid 50% of the vent cap cost as a deposit by a credit card billing form that was emailed to me. The cap was ordered via a phone conversation with me about the model number of the unit. Service person came, very nice and seemed well versed on the unit. When it came to replacing the vent cap, he had the wrong one. He left, and called me about 30 minutes later to tell me that Town and Country no longer makes the vent cap and that my only option was to replace the entire fireplace. This didn't sit well with me so I called another service person who found 4 of the caps I would need in the T&C warehouse in Sacramento within about an hour. It has since been installed. As it turns out, Blaze will not do a credit card credit for refunding of a deposit. They send a check. I have my "unavailable" vent cap installed but a check has still not been issued. pffft. read more

I bought a gas log (river stones actually) from Blaze. Their pricing was much better than O'Kells (nearly half the cost). I did experience some of the frustrations with lack of follow-through that other reviews have referenced. However I saw a marked improvement in service after May, so from my perspective the restructuring mentioned by their VP addressed the problems. I recommend speaking with Steve Dollar. He gave us good advice and was great to work with through several iterations until we got the contemporary look we were going for. The installers were nice, professional, competent, quick and efficient. read more

Blaze Fireplace may have a nice showroom and seemingly helpful sales staff, their service department is the worst. I've purchased a Heat & Glo series 6000 gas fireplace and it's taken me three calls to their service department; two visits to their San Raphael showroom and one call to Heat & Glo's corporate headquarters to get them to call me back and I still haven't gotten a service appointment. My suggestion to anyone interested in purchasing a gas fireplace is to shop somewhere else and buy another brand. They have terrible customer care. read more

I bought 3 fireplaces from Blaze 3 years ago for almos 10K. I had to call service during the warranty on one (within the first year) and then again recently. I was told the usual $175 for the repair plus parts, waited for 3 weeks for my appointment as most of the others. The technician was superb and very professional - no issues there. He fixed the fireplace in less than 30 minutes. The problem was that the fireplace controller was melted due to heat - basically the design of the fireplace sucks. I had to pay $310 total for this and I felt that since Blaze sold me the fireplace and seems like the design is broken they should take some responsibility and help me get at least the part free from the manufacturer. After all, they were touting these fireplaces as the best thing on earth when I paid the 10K. The guy at Blaze basically told me to take a walk - I feel like I was stupid to deal with this guys in the first place. Once they get your money seems there is no interest to deal with the customers. read more

This is an update to my earlier review, after which I was contacted by Jim. We talked about my unhappy experience, and we decided to try again. So, this review is only about the service I received from Jim's contact and the subsequent site visit to look at my fireplace (I haven't yet figured out what I'm going to do, so I can't comment on actual installation). Chris from Blaze contacted me right away and we set up a site visit. He was very professional and talked me through the different options I have for my fireplace. He also put me in contact with a chimney sweep who can help me prep the chimney for an insert (or whatever I decide to do). After the site visit, Chris sent me a couple of detailed quotes within a few days. He also sent me some links to pictures of the inserts I might consider installing. Overall, I'd say that the quality of customer service from Jim and Chris erased my earlier bad experience. read more

They are experts at their craft and they have a strong command of the machines, what they do and for which locations in the home they are appropriate. Their season is only 6 months of the year. I needed my insert gas fireplace checked out and called Blaze, they told me to make an appointment online. I did so and in the instructions they said they would get back to me in 24 hours. They did call in the allotted time and this is a direct quote from the representative, " It's $175 to look at it and we could squeeze you in February 10th, because we are assisting our real customers that purchased their systems from us" I told him that we use it as our main scours for heating the house and asked if there wasn't something sooner. Not a chance we are just too busy. Now the condescending tone he used didn't sit well with me, but I just told him no thanks. I called another company and they came out with in two days and the total bill was $105. I've used Blaze Fireplaces to maintain our gas heater for years now. One time they found a spider had crawled into part of the gas pipe and was blocking the flow of gas. I've always found them to be friendly, professional and they've consistently come up with the cheapest solutions. I don't understand the bad reviews. Not my experience at all. read more

Blaze fireplaces provided great service, they arrived on time to the scheduled appointment, were able to quickly identify the problem and fix my fireplace while also explaining to me how to fix the problem in the future. After spending thousand of dollars with Blaze 10 years ago on two very permanent installations with their custom marble mantle installations. They also supplied a gas fireplace insert that apparently they no longer sell. After two no show repair appointments, they now say that they can't service our unit and they have no recommendations for anyone that can. Thanks Blaze!! read more

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!!! Blaze Fireplaces sold me a gas stove, which had starting problems from the beginning. I tried to get service, without any success. I cannot recommend this company. They do not stand behind their product. I noticed other reviewers have been less than complimentary. I wonder how they stay in business. read more
