I see all these 5 star reviews and I don't get it. Are you high??? Ummm... you don't have to answer that. The food was good but definitely not worth 5 stars, especially considering the price. Just because it's expensive doesn't mean it tastes amazing people. Unless you really are high and in that case I rate Lucky Charms 5 Stars! First off the staff at the door comes off very pretentious, I did not feel welcome there whatsoever. When we made reservations we were given a time frame to eat and told we had to leave by 7:45. In our case it was fine but came off very rude! When it came time to order we decided on the "rice table" the server tried to convince us that it was only enough for one person and that we should order two. Fortunately I read the reviews on here first and saw how much food it was. He really made us feel like if we weren't there to spend a lot of money we shouldn't be there. I told him if it's not enough for for two people then why do you have an option to share for and extra 10 Euros?! Realizing he was caught up in a lie he began fumbling over his words. I told him just bring us our appetizer and rice table. By the way two other couples next to us ordered the same thing to share from a different waiter and had no issues. I'm sure he was trying to take advantage of us because we were tourists.
On to the food. Everything was good but nothing stuck out as amazing. I've had the rice table or "Rijsttafel" several times in Indonesia. This place had a lot of the same dishes but not the same flavors. Nasi Goreng a staple of Indonesian food tasted more like bland spicy spanish rice. It was nothing like traditional nasi goring. If your trying to make these dishes traditional, nasi goreng is a must to get right! I would give this place 2-1/2 stars, 3 stars for the food and 2 stars for the overall experience. Everyone will tell you that you must try Indonesian food while in Amsterdam, that it's really good and there probably are really good places but this place is way over hyped! read more
