    Rijjstafel
    Soojin J.

My Dutch friend comes here with her family all the time and we got the rijjstafel. Thankfully this also removes the stress of choosing from an unfamiliar menu. I loved getting to try a lot of different dishes and discover our favorites. It was a delicious, easy, joyful meal and I highly recommend this meal if you're in Amsterdam!

As a party of 2, we were seated without a reservation on a Sunday evening, but it seems like it would be best to make a reservation. Server was friendly. Food - Got the Rijsttafel Minahasa (€38,50 per person). They put the dishes on warmers, so that was a nice touch. - The chicken skewers were good. However, the other 3 chicken dishes were kind of bland and tasted really similar to one another. - 1/3 of the beef dishes was flavorful, but the other two were a bit dry and flavorless. - The dish with the hard boiled egg was way too salty. - The yellow rice was fragrant. Jasmine rice tasted fine. - Didn't care for the prawn chips. Tasted like they were fried in used/not fresh oil. - There was a soy based dish that tasted ok but not excited about it. - The 3 cooked vegetable dishes were pretty good. The 4th vegetable dish was a peanut based salad with cabbage and cucumber. The 5th vegetable dish, the salad, was tangy and a good contrast to the others. - Not sure why coconut crumb topping counts as a dish. It was supposed to help tame the spiciness of the food, but the food wasn't overly spicy anyway.

The Rijsttafel was a great experience for my family, and we would definitely go again. Just adding that you should definitely try to make a reservation if possible.

    Indonesian rice table!

Our new friend from Ohio recommended Rijsttafel, which is Indonesian Rice Tables, only common in Amsterdam. We checked the website - reservations required - and we picked our time. It seemed a bit early, but this was one of our wonderful new gastronomic finds in Amsterdam, and it takes a while to enjoy all of the plates! This small place is packed for the best reason - GREAT FOOD with good service!! The WC has a steep, spiral staircase that is quite the adventure too! Three Rijsttafel / rice table choices are available - Large, Small and Vegetarian. Being only two of us, we chose the small rice table. Twelve delicious dishes were served, and each contained a generous portion for two. Beef dishes, chicken satay and a yummy tofu - veggie dish, plus veggies on their own - a sassy green bean and potato dish plus crunchy soy bean dish with an outstanding flavor, yummy prawn chips, a slightly sweet salad, "sour" pickles with a perfect crunch, fluffy white rice and lightly flavored coconut rice were served that evening. Heat level can be ordered too! The meat was tender and juicy, and seasoned to perfection. The veggies were fresh and yummy, as each dish was seasoned perfectly - and all added just the right components to make this rice table absolutely delicious! Dessert was calling and Pandam cake was the answer! This was a gorgeous, green cake with so many layers we couldn't count them all. Each layer was "European sweet" - the light coconut flavor of pandam was not overpowered with the usual "American sugar high", A tasty pandam ice cream accompanied the cake, along with a huge dollop of rich whipped cream. A strawberry compliments the beautiful green array as well. It was d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s, and the perfect conclusion to a fabulous Indonesian Rijsttafel feast!

Good food. Nice selections. Got the larger set meal. Photos from others are accurate so I'm posting menu pics instead Bathroom out of soap. Like many locations in Amsterdam, there are stairs-- to get in there is one and a steep flight for bathroom Water glasses very small But good good and service friendly.

We were in Amsterdam for only 22 hours and really wanted to make sure Indonesian food was on our list of places to try. We found this place via a Nat Geo book of top restaurants to try and booked a late reservation about a week prior to our trip. It did not disappoint! It's small inside but you were seated quickly with a reservation. We immediately wanted to try a bit of everything so went with the Rijsttafel small (12 dishes). I only got a picture of half of the dishes but it was phenomenal! The flavors were unique and fragrant. We only got mild spice, but you could definitely increase the spice level if you want! Would definitely come back here again!

We wanted to try their signature menu, it was okay. The food came out with candles lighting the bottom to keep it warm but the set had 4 chicken dishes and the flavors across the board tasted all kind of similar to each other and some reminded me of Thai flavors and not Indonesian. I asked the waiter where some of the dishes originated from but he didn't know. I wish some of them came out warmer though, but it was a decent meal.

    The hard boiled egg dish.

We got the 18 course rice table. 6 of the 18 were a variation of chicken dishes, 3 were filler dishes( (2 types of crackers and 1 coconut bread crumbs). Only one meat dish and NO SEAFOOD!!On top of it all the dishes lacked flavor. Would not recommend. It's completely not worth it and they are getting away with the bare minimum dishes. So much so that one dish was a cut up hard boiled egg.

Tried the Indonesian Rice Table here and wasn't disappointed. Generous variety of different food items to try that felt like I was eating a well-prepared home cooked meal. There wasn't anything that really stuck out to me, but was nice to try once for the experience.

Absolutely amazing. We did the meat and the veggie rice tables. The food was all incredible. Every bite was better than the last. The food was all incredibly well seasoned and authentic, from what I remember of being in Indonesia. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Was a highlight of our trip. Make sure you make a reservation.

Tujuh Maret is an Indonesian restaurant located in the Southern Canal Ring in Amsterdam. Apparently, you can find a more upscale version, Tempo Doeloe, next door. My friend and I took a chance and opted for choosing this restaurant based on our lonely planet guide suggestions for restaurants in the area. I am always up for trying new cuisines and such but this turned out to be just okay. The food, as another reviewer mentioned, was pretty bland. I would opt for somewhere else if you are in the area. If you do fancy a try, mains are 7-10 euros and rijsttafel, an Indonesian banquet, (vegetarian and non-vegetarian; see photos) are 22-27 euros. They also offer a mini-rijsttafel, a makanan kecil for 15 euros.

The restaurant offers a varied menu inspired by classic Indonesian dishes and promotes a relaxed welcoming atmosphere with the option to request specific dishes in advance including lobster or seafood with prior notice. We were seated without a reservation which was convenient and appreciated. The service was a bit grumpy and not the warmest but still attentive and functional throughout the meal. While the hospitality did not fully match the restaurant's stated philosophy it did not ruin the experience. The food itself was good and satisfying with rich flavors that felt true to Indonesian home style cooking. The rice table in particular looked absolutely delicious and tempting though our group ended up ordering more selectively due to picky eaters at the table. It is definitely something I would want to try on a future visit. Overall SAMPURNA delivers solid Indonesian food and a genuine traditional approach. Despite imperfect service I would return especially to try the rice table next time.

They are also very accommodating for vegetarian/vegans - they were able to swap out the meat dishes for the vegetarian in our group while still doing the full-table tasting menu.

We weren't sure we would make it as we were only in town for the evening and we had just come from 18 hour international travel--extremely jet lagged and feeling delirious. I had no appetite but am very glad we pushed ourselves to go because it was such a treat! Rice table is an Indonesian multi course sampler meal. I'm glad I chose to dine at Aneka Rasa. The inside of the restaurant was romantic with candlelit dining and elaborate decor. €30 per person can seem expensive but we were pleasantly surprised that it's truly €30 total. No tax or tip. Our tap water was also free. When we entered, the owner, Jerry informed us they're only doing rice table (no a la carte dining) and asked us if we want the regular or vegetarian meal. We chose regular. Jerry learned our names and addressed us by them for the rest of the evening. The regular rijsttafel came with chicken sate, soy chicken, beef rendang, curry chicken, veggies, spicy eggs, cucumber salad, fried & white rice, chips. That chicken sate was the best we've ever had! The peanut sauce on it is bomb!!! We've never seen so much peanut sauce on chicken sate-- the chicken skewers were bathing in sauce. The chicken was tender & juicy. I ate up all the leftover sauce with rice. The eggs have a spicy kick so be careful if you have low tolerance. Everything else tasted fresh. We appreciated the variety and being able to savor multiple different things. It was plenty of food for the both of us (and we eat a lot!). We talked to Jerry a bit and he was incredibly kind and welcoming. I appreciated the Christian music played in the background and messages around the restaurant. The staff were friendly and courteous, and I would gladly come back next time I'm in Amsterdam. Walked in on a Saturday evening around 7pm as a solo diner and the restaurant was packed. I didn't make reservations so was hoping they could squeeze me in and it was a yes, just had to wait for about 8-10 minutes until the bar area seating cleared up a bit. Score! Seated the menu was presented right away, after about 10 minutes staff asked for my order, I got: - Spang Makandra Special €17.50: this is a plate of several of the house specialities. Fried rice & noodles, braised chicken, grilled chicken satay, stir-fried long beans, egg, potato sambal and perkedel (fried potatoes). So tasty all around! Loooved the braised chicken was done very well, the peanut sauce used for the chicken satay was a bit on the sweeter side. The egg was scrambled (believe this was intentional for this preparation), the flavors were delicious! I can't comment to the authenticity since I'm no expert in Surinamese food though would certainly recommend this dish to all. - Dawet €3.00: if you're familiar with SE Asian shaved ice with palm sugar syrup, the flavor of this drink is reminiscent. While the color is a bright pepto bismol pink, it's mostly coconut milk with a strong flavor of gula malaka. Was on the sweeter side though glad for the coconut milk to balance out the spiciness of the hot sauce. - Beef rendang sandwich €6.50: sooo yummy. Considering the Indonesian and Chinese influences in Surinamese food, I've eaten my share of specifically Malaysian and Indonesian food in those countries and the curry flavors in the sandwich were prominent and super tasty. The spices were quite strong that even wrapped in foil and inside a plastic bag, my entire bag smelled like rendang (in a most moth-watering way lol) after carrying for some hours. The decor was cozy and filled the left side wall with pics of patrons of the past, opposite wall full length mirrors to make the space look larger. Seating enough for about 50-60 probably. Even though they were slammed, staff checked in periodically on how I was doing, refilled water, which indirectly led to an interesting conversation with another solo diner sitting at the bar. Strong recommend!

We were able to get a same-day reservation and were excited to try the food here. Every table was filled and were seated all pretty close to eachother, which added to the level of noise and feeling of a super busy evening. We ordered the tasting menu and the first course was an AMAZING start- probably the best Indonesian dish I've had outside of Indonesia. The main course is where we had more issues - for having 9 different small plates to try, the amount of rice for 4 people was definitely not enough. Some of my friends in the group were also more sensitive to spice, so it would've been nice if there was more consideration to ordering the dishes by spice level or at a minimum letting us know which plates were more spicy. And while there were many to try, most of these dishes were just okay, nothing really stood out. The dessert course was a much larger plate/portion than any of us were expecting, which was a pleasant surprise but the flavors were also just okay to me.
