    Rice table! So good
    Sommer G.

Best meal I had in Amsterdam!! I've been to several Indonesian restaurants in Los Angeles and New York, but Kartika in Amsterdam was by far the best! So much flavor and spice (spicy if you want) everything I tried was next level! We went with the rice table so we were able to try everything! Also, the owner/staff was absolutely phenomenal! The service was spot on and everything was great! If you go to Amsterdam and want to have a good meal, stay away from Dutch food!!! Check out Kartika!! Also, make a ressie, sometimes its very busy!! Also, Cash Only!!

Wonderful food that offered us a seat even though they were expecting a lot of reservations. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant ambiance was really calming and we had a wonderful time.

By far, one of the best meals we've had on our recent trip to Amsterdam. I've heard a lot about the huge Indonesian population and influence in Amsterdam, so an Indonesian meal was a must on our to-do list. I was glad we'd called first to reserve a table as they fill up fairly quickly in the evenings, and the restaurant itself isn't too large. They have a decent-sized menu, but if it's your first time here, the rice table (rijsttafel) is a MUST. Think of it as a taster menu with 10-12 different dishes plus appetizers, rice, and dessert. For the rice table, they have 2 options, the Ramayana which includes chicken and beef, and the Shinta which is vegetarian-friendly. My husband is deathly allergic to anything from the ocean, so you could imagine his excitement when they told us that they don't have any seafood in the restaurant so he didn't have to worry about any fish sauce or shrimp paste. The dishes were mindblowing, each variety so packed with flavor that paired so well with the sticky rice the meal came with. I am still dreaming about that meal and only wish we had rice tables available in the US. Unfortunately, it's more of a Dutch-Indonesian thing. If you're in Amsterdam or planning to make a trip there soon, add this place to your list!

Our boat tour guide told us the best food would be Indonesian and he was correct! It was delicious! Small restaurant and they take reservations!

What an incredible dining experience. The ambiance was excellent, as the restaurant is set up beautifully. Everything in the Ramayana was delicious. The ingredients were fresh, and each dish was flavorful. The service was attentive and thoughtful. This is the best Indonesian restaurant I have ever been to.

Very, very good but have had better. We arrived for our reservation and were quickly seated. We asked for a 6:30 reservation but was asked it we could arrive at 6:00PM so we did. We didn't have much of a problem ordering dinner as we had already decided on the rijstaffel. We ordered the meat option. It came with about 10 different tastes. Wish I could list them all but that would be impossible unless I went online and copied them. Just trust me. This place is very good. The food was tasty but some of the small tastes started tasting a bit alike. The prices are more reasonable than most Indonesian restaurants in the city that serve the rijstaffel. So therefore we would recommend. My pictures should show the abundance of food served for two. Good luck. We couldn't eat it all. Highly recommend one make reservations. We saw many people get turned away at the door. Service was ok, not the absolute best but ok.

Our first time to Kartika in Amsterdam. Their food was amazing delicious! We ordered Ramayana on their menu which is recommended by their staff. It is a little of everything of their specialties includes rendang, stew meat and vegetables . Total of about 10 different types. Guess what .. we were happy and very satisfied with our choice to go with Ramayana! The portion was good for 2 persons. They served some rice as well to go with the dishes and some crackers as appetizer. Their sambal and peanut sauce were yummy. Highly recommended! You may want to make the reservation beforehand. We were lucky to get a table during their opening hour.

We went to the restaurant about 30 min before closing, and the wait staff was extremely accommodating. It was well within their rights to turn us away, especially considering we were a larger group and all their tables were full when we arrived. They explained the menu to us and let us order before being seated so we were still able to eat before the kitchen closed! While the service was amazing, the food was one of the best meals I've ever had. Every dish had its own unique flavors. The Sambal goreng telor (boiled eggs in spicy coconut sauce) was delicious and one of my favorite dishes. Overall, this restaurant provided an absolutely great experience, from the food to the service. I would highly highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone, and would love the opportunity to come back.

Loved everything about Kartika, from the welcoming staff to the ambiance to the delicious food. There were three of us and we stopped by at opening without a reservation (actually tried to make one, but they never answered the phone) and they sat us with the stipulation that we would have to finish within an hour and a half; we thought we could, so we sat. Since this was my first time in Amsterdam and the first experience with a rice table (, we decided to order it. We were going to order for three, but the wait staff suggested that we order for two and split it if we weren't ravenous; so glad she suggested that because there was more food than we could eat! The food was amazing; there were so many different items and we had fun trying each one. Most were mild but a couple had some kick to them. So delicious!

The flavors for their 'Ramayan' Rijsttafel (rice table) is the best I have had in Amsterdam and Hague. The mini buffet was perfectly portioned for two, with distinct flavors. Only nit is that they don't serve any complementary tap water, but that can be overlooked for the food and service otherwise.

A spontaneous walk led us to this fantastic Indonesian restaurant. There was a bit of a wait for dinner since we didn't make a reservation (about 30 minutes), but the host was super kind and kept apologizing for the wait. But it was ok because it gave us time to look over the menu, stare at a couple of people's orders and pick what we wanted. The vibe of the place is pretty simple with common asian design. The interior space is pretty small but the dining area does spill out into the street for more seating on good days. We got the Ramayana which is a few small plates of different orders. The food was fantastic. They were all so flavorful, perfectly spiced and a great contrast/break from the pub food we had been eating all over Amsterdam. The food can be a bit spicy, especially after eating food without much spice so just be ready.

Will write a longer review later, but hands down the best meal I've had in Amsterdam.

Great Indonesian food experience! If you're in the area don't miss out on visiting Kartika. I love that they compiled an option to try all of their dishes in small portions - Ramayana option . All options consisted of meat, poultry or vegetables and did not included seafood (which is a win for me). Everything was delicious and the service was spectacular. The ice cream and hot tea in the end was a nice touch too.

In fact, there's a second-floor dining area that you probably wouldn't notice unless they sit you there. Ordered the following: - Chicken Satay - 10/10: best satay I've ever had. Hands down. The sauce is impeccable. Super savory. No need to dip it in anything. Chicken is moist and tender. Categorized as a side dish, but this really is a main event. Every table was ordering it. - Beef Rendang - 6.8/10: nice flavor. Medium spice. Beef is tender, but I wish they used fattier cuts of meat. Would elevate this dish definitely. - Prawns - 7/10: had some nice heat. Prawns were tender and full of flavor, but kind of small. Dishes came with a variety of small add-ons that's a bit hard to describe. I guess if I had to I'd say it was the equivalent of Korean banchan - an assortment of side dishes like potato strings and veggies. Loved them all. Service was excellent and friendly. Prices are a bit steep, but fair with what you're getting. Definitely recommend!

I've walked by this place 1000's of times since it's at the end of the block of my Amsterdam apartment. Since the pandemic, it has been closed to indoor dining more than it has been open. I regret not popping in there for dinner when I had the chance. It's a vast space for Amsterdam. The front door is blocked with a table, candles and menus. Technically masks are not required outside, so if you're inclined to go maskless, this is more convenient. It's a very busy sidewalk during the day, but at night, not so bad. My friends were very satisfied with it too. They are smaller portions (by the sight) but they fill you up in a hurry! It was superlekker. Again, I regretted getting bami and should have gotten nasi kuning instead. It costs the same and is more bland so it goes well with the other salty sides. Sambal Ikan turned out to be mackerel, which I love! And this was no exception. The oily fish went perfectly with the spicy sauce, and I was given a lot of it!
