We were advised by many to try the Indonesian food while in Amsterdam and this seemed to be the perfect spot! We enjoyed the Rijsttafels Authentiek, which was like a tasting menu which included several meat, fish and veggie dishes. I'm not a fan of mussels though so they offered to substitute them for the shrimp, which was so kind. It was truly an excellent experience and we enjoyed every moment of it. The service was so kind and the restaurant itself is modern but cozy. Everyone there was clearly very happy. Definitely make a reservation, it's totally worth while.

We had the rice bowl dinner for two the Authentiek. It was a great sampling of different dishes. The green beans were quite delicious. There are 3 levels for dining. We were on the upper level with a nice view of the street below. We had a reservation and were sat right away. They took our order right away. We did not wait long for the food. Have not had Indonesian food before, waiter said it was not as spicy as you would get in SE Asia which was great!

I've never had Indonesian food before and not sure if this would be a fair reference but I must say the flavor in this place was really good. I ordered the fried fish with coconut sauce and my daughter had beef. Super nice service, too. The atmosphere was nice. People were pleasant.

That's a WHOLE lotta food!!!!

When in Amsterdam, one should eat the food of the country's former colonial possessions, so off to Blauw we went, to experience an authentic Indonesian Rijstaffel dinner. Slight snag in our reservation; although the on-line system confirmed a 7:30 table, they serve by seatings at 6 and 8; not sure why the on-line system would take a 7:30 in that case, but it did. After a few minutes with the host staff, we were offered a bar high top; after about 10 mins they gave us a regular table. What they didn't mention was that we had to wait until 8 to order. Oh well, the food was worth waiting for. We ordered the authentic Rijstaffel, which includes meat, fish and vegetable options. We were not expecting the variety of dishes that were delivered to our table; the waiter brought about 7 plates, and then came back with about 8 more! The food was delicious; the chicken satay and the goat satay were both wonderful. We also enjoyed the beef rendang, chicken curry, and fried fish with sweet soy sauce. The shrimp in spicy sauce was also a winner; the shrimp were plump and juicy. Finally, the veggie dishes were pretty varied; crispy honeyed potato sticks, sweet and sour pickled cucumber slices, jackfruit in curry sauce, cabbage with a sour vinegar sauce, egg curry, and a super-delicious sautéed green bean dish. The food was served with white and fried rice. It was WAY too much for the two of us to finish. We ended with traditional Indonesian coffee which was served with complimentary slices of a ginger/honey cake. Recommended for an authentic Indonesian "Rice Table"/Rijstaffel meal in Amsterdam.

Good indonesian food. Not as spicy as some others. Pleasant service. As expected, there are many, many dishes in the sample style. They barely fit on the table. It's nice because you get one skewer of this and a little taste of that. Clean pleasant bathroom.

Ordered: Menu Biru (~€53/person): selection of street food including meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes, and dessert from the chef Gin-Tonic Blauw 7 Rempah (~€13): their homemade gin with 7 spices (Lemongrass, Juniper, Coriander, Cloves, Lime leaf, Pandan leaf, Rawit pepper) L'Autantique Chardonnay Languedoc (~€30/bottle) Aya's take: My first Rijsttafel! Rijsttafel translates into "rice table" which is an elaborate Indonesian meal adapted by the Dutch. Their downstairs section is semi-private although still very loud but it gave us all the opportunity to sit together and move freely. This kind of meal is perfect for our large party of 15 people as they bring out tons of dishes and plenty of food. You will absolutely not get up from the table hungry! Each dish was vibrant, insanely well-seasoned, and varied in flavor. I'm salivating just writing this. If you're in Amsterdam, I highly recommend having a Rijsttafel experience - Blauw is a great option for it.

Amazing. Great food, great vibe, great service. Pretty good value too. The food was great, I recommend the "meals" where you get to try everything . It's a lot of food, you will be stuffed. I liked setting pretty much. I'll be back! Right by the park too which is a great walk or bike before and after the meal.(Amsterdam location)

One of the best Indonesian restaurant and the only one I have been to. We ordered the meal for two but wow so much food came out. There were about 15 different items on the table and the service was good. Food came out fast and the environment had a cozy atmosphere. I would def visit again and would recommend this place!

Meat rice table

Fantastic food! This was a great find and they had a full list of just about every kind of allergy on the menu and a number coding that matched their chart. We got the meat rice table and they brought like 16 mini dishes. Basically this was tapas. So fun !!!!!! Wow. We were blown away. Ranking all the dishes was all we ended up talking about and they were all good. There are not that many tables so a reservation is probably best but it was easy on their website.

Menu! Order the rice table!

We ordered the rice table! I bet we had 15 small dishes from beef redang to redang jackfruit to fried rice. All amazing! We had a lovely server from Ireland that made the night perfect!

Meat and fish rice table (only a fraction of the dishes could fit into the photo)

We had a very fun and enjoyable time sampling a massive amount of Dutch Indonesian food with about 17 different dishes (I lost count) with that came with our meat and fish rice table. It was really ridiculous but I guess that's the point. I am not familiar with Indonesian food, but my understanding is that the rice table was invented by the Dutch to showcase the rich and diverse array of flavors and spices of their colony. I though the food was very good although was very much on the sweet side. The service was very friendly and it was a lot of fun trying so many small dishes.

Unlike any culinary experience I've had before! This traditional Indonesian rice table was such a special meal on our trip. The flavors of each of the dishes were a poetry of their own. Each one distinctly different bite after bite. If you're going to give us 12+ dishes, they need to each carry their own or it's not a special spread. This was top notch eats and wish we could have one of these in NYC! You must get a table and try the riches of Indonesian flavors! They have meat and vegetarian varieties so all diets can be enjoyed fully without sacrifice! Great wine list and the service was on point as well!

Sauces available for purchase!

Blauw was recommended to me by a friend as a must eat place, and she was correct. It's a bit out of the way but 11 tram stops and 4 minute walk was worth it. We ordered the mixed rice table (2 meat, fish and vegan) and the flotilla of boats never seemed to stop. All were great and came in a variety of spice/heat levels so there was something for everyone. The service was incredibly fast and we were done before you knew it.

Rice table for 2 people.

The ambiance of the restaurant was fun and eclectic. I was so happy to see a whole vegetarian section. The peanut sauce from the gado-gado was my favorite hands-down. I also really enjoyed the tofu skewers, even though everything I tasted was amazing. I wished I could have tried more dishes because of how good everything was! The drinks were also tasty. I had a mocktail, which I believe was the BERBUSA PIR. My husband ordered an alcoholic drink that was great as well.

I've walked by this place 1000's of times since it's at the end of the block of my Amsterdam apartment. Since the pandemic, it has been closed to indoor dining more than it has been open. I regret not popping in there for dinner when I had the chance. It's a vast space for Amsterdam. The front door is blocked with a table, candles and menus. Technically masks are not required outside, so if you're inclined to go maskless, this is more convenient. It's a very busy sidewalk during the day, but at night, not so bad. My friends were very satisfied with it too. They are smaller portions (by the sight) but they fill you up in a hurry! It was superlekker. I definitely look forward to exploring their menu options here. I can't believe I didn't try them sooner!

I think many Indonesian dishes are not hurt by this, and especially rendang benefits from at least a day of maturing. The little lady behind the counter was friendly and efficient, quickly portioning food and using all four microwaves. Again I got the Ramas menu (€8,60) and I substituted bami for nasi, which costs €0,60 extra. I also noticed that they had Sambal Ikan (€3.00), so I added that to my order. There are only a couple tables to sit at, fortunately I was planning to take my food home and eat it later anyway. When I finally got around to eating it, I quickly noticed that it was searing my mouth! That's perfect for me, who uses El Yucateco hot sauce liberally on my eggs in the morning; definitely avoid the items marked as spicy if you can't take the heat. Again, I regretted getting bami and should have gotten nasi kuning instead. It costs the same and is more bland so it goes well with the other salty sides. Sambal Ikan turned out to be mackerel, which I love! And this was no exception. The oily fish went perfectly with the spicy sauce, and I was given a lot of it! I also got spicy eggplant, spicy egg, spicy tempe, and spicy green beans. Hooo~ my mouth was on fire afterwards. I can see why the place is so popular!
