Yum! The nachos are the must try item on the menu. The margaritas run a close second. Nothing fake here - all good - all the time. The staff is very friendly and helpful with the menu. They also have a LARGE selection of tequila & rum. You can't go wrong here! read more

The marketing for this place was intriguing so I was hopeful for my experience at Blanco. Upon arrival, the host was very welcoming and kind. But service went downhill after this. Our server did not show any interest in us until we were paying the bill. The food quality was poor for the expensive price. For example, the nachos were apparently supposed to be really good. The nachos cost 30$ and the meat had no flavour, there were way too many chips, not enough cheese and the veggies we asked for had to be dug for to be found. I got the impression they were running out of vegetables but still served us anyway. Just not a good plate of nachos. I do not plan on going back. read more

We stopped in for the deck... Service was decent, food was excellent and the drinks delicious.

So I'm conflicted because I love the food here, and have had some great servers at night here. However I brought my friends here for happy hour after our server mentioned it last time. It was a bit of a different experience. I felt a bit embarrassed because I had raved about the place. Our server was not pleasant at all despite my efforts to be nice. My friends are less accommodating. They hadn't been there before so got confused when ordering the nachos, but rather than explain it to her she got mega rude and condescending. I was in total shock. I picked up that my gf wasn't understanding so took the time to explain how the ordering system went, but that really shouldn't be my job. The rest of the experience was just awkward...like I just wanted to leave right away. read more

I have been waiting for the place to open for so long and trust me when I say it does not disappoint. The decor is reminiscent to an old school tex-mex joint with lots of little touches all over the room (Tequila bottle chandeliers!!). Our server was super friendly and happy to tell us all about the tequila list and rum that they had to offer and explained the food menu to us as well. we decided on wings to start... They were massive!! super crunchy with just the right spice so good!! We also sampled some of the cocktails. Everything was made fresh and super yummy, Im going to be dreaming about that DJ Paloma for days to come!! I can't wait to visit again. read more

The guac was made with brown avos which taste terrible, the service was slow, the food is overpriced and tasteless. The tacos are literally dry battered fish/meat, raw onion and a small amount of cabbage and a few pieces of cilantro wrapped in a dry tortilla. We told our waitress how bad they were and she got us some sour cream which at least made them edible (and admitted she can't even eat them without sour cream). The only pro here is that the margaritas are tasty - although the service was so slow we ended up having to spend more on drinks than dinner. Do yourself a favor take your $75 and buy corn flour, frozen fish, avocados, tequila, a blender and host a taco party at home. read more

I have been here twice, greeted promptly, seated within a few minutes. Staff were obviously new but very friendly. Food portions were great, Watermelon Margarita the best (they creep up on you so dont be tempted to have too many). Will be back again with my girlfriends. read more

Fun atmosphere and good patio. Food is decent - nothing fancy or too adventurous. My go-to here is the regular-sized veggie burrito, which is a MEAL and is very reasonably priced! I can eat as much as the next guy, but the burrito comes with two sides and after that, I am stuffed. I imagine some people could share one between two people. If you can make it for their happy hour then you are winning. Pass on the nachos unless you're going to load them up. read more

After a fun night trying some great cocktails and food at different places along 17th Ave, our group (3 couples), finished our evening at Blanco Cantina. When we arrived we asked if we could sit on the patio (which looked great) and the hostess explained that there wasn't room. We asked if something opened up could we move to there and they said they would let us know. Our server brought us past the patio, which appeared to have at least 1 table open, to our table near the back close to the kitchen. We ordered nachos and some margarita jugs for the table. After bringing our food we weren't talked to again (at least 45 minutes) until our bills were abruptly delivered to the table. The worst part was that we were celebrating a friend's birthday and one of the main reasons for choosing Blanco was because we wanted to try the churros for dessert. Needless to say we were unimpressed. Overall, the food and drinks were fine. It wasn't bad, but certainly nothing particularly good. The atmosphere was fun, and again had a great patio, but the service was terrible. It was clear there was no interest from the staff to see to it that we had a pleasant experience. Especially as we were a group that was interested in spending time and money here. If it was near closing I could understand wanting to get us out, but it was before midnight. After this poor experience I wouldn't return or recommend this place to anyone else. read more

Probably best to order an appetizer only. Main dishes were disappointing and I actually think I feel sick from the disgusting burrito.

We got a long hair tangled in our nachos cheese. They did not compensate at all. Poor customer service..

Wonderful food, atmosphere and staff! My husband and I travel and eat out quite often and this is one of our favorite places to eat when we are in Calgary. read more

Great atmosphere and drinks we ok. Water no ice, beer went warm fast. Nachos and guac were good, really kewl that they make it right at your table. The Tacos were not so great - no flavor. The beef or brisket was really greasy. I guess they are hoping for you to use all the sauces they provide to make your taco flavorful. It's not a place I would return for the food. read more

I just tried this place out since I live across the street and I'm glad there is a Mexican restaurant close by now. I like the decor and the drink choices and menu are good. I got the tortilla soup and El Diablo Burrito which was the size of a small child. Both were pretty good (not amazing) and I like the hot sauce choices (Valentina is soo good). I would like to see enchiladas on the menu though. read more

This is the second time I have been to Blanco. The food is pretty good,.... service is meh ... I have had better. A friend and I made reservations for Saturday mid week, our reservations were confirmed, and they called mid aftn on Saturday to confirm again. So far so good. We arrived at Blanco and they had a completely different name associated with my reservation, I actually had to get them the cross reference my phone number so we could get our table! We get seated, and the table they give us is right in the walk way of the wait staff. I was bumped so many times by several staff, with hardly any apologies while eating that I was ready to walk out. It became an absolute horrible dining experience. I think if people make reservations well in advance of their dining date, the restaurant should first of all get the name right, and secondly not seat people where they are consistently going to be bumped and disrupted throughout their meal. Not impressed the second time around at all. read more

Unimpressed. Drinks tasted like they came out of a can- artificial and too sweet (however the waitress said they are made in house). Had the guac and it was very plain (NOTHING compared to anejo's guac). Service started out great, but the waitress became less attentive as the night went on and forgot to put our meal order through. Would not return. read more

The food and atmosphere are great. However, when we came here on Wednesday night, the service was absolutely horrible. It took forever for our order to be taken, our food sat in the service window for a good 10 minutes before the server realized and brought it to us and took another 20 plus minutes to pay. read more

Came in for halfy hour and was not disappointed. Excellent margaritas and nachos. Great staff and service despite a full restaurant.

Fried chicken, fries and fries tacos. So good. The asian lady, owner?, very knowledgable. Id come back over anajehos or native tounges. Next time ill try something else off there menu read more

The place is consistently dead. The drink deals suck. And the service isn't great. I enjoy Mexican food and love going to places like Anejo. The food here wasn't fantastic and was incredible over priced for very small portions. The draft beer was also excessively over priced for a place most people go for a casual meal and drinks. I wouldn't return. read more

Tasteless, sloppy, and insufficient tacos. I met up with friends on Taco Tuesday at 11pm. It was my first visit to the restaurant. Got the fish, pulled beef, and pulled pork. While the tacos were moist, the moisture from the meat soaked through the single tortilla. This wouldn't have been an issue if there was another tortilla to reinforce the taco. Since there wasn't, the tortilla tore when I went to pick it up and fell apart instantly, all before I could take my first bite. If anyone has had tacos from LA, San Diego, or anywhere in Texas, they'd know that street tacos always use two tortillas and not one. It's not a taco if you can't pick it up whole and eat it with your hand. Regarding portion sizes, much was left to be desired, especially the fish taco. The piece of fish was comparable to that of your average highlighter. Not good. The rest of what was on the tortilla was filler, as in shredded lettuce. The taco wasn't bursting with flavour either. Actually, there was no flavour. As for the pulled beef and pulled pork tacos, it was hard to tell the difference between the two and that's not a good thing. Again, they lacked flavour. The tacos were also served cold. Regardless of the fact that we were seated on the patio, the tacos should have retained some heat when coming straight out of the kitchen. A cold first bite is a let down. Either the tacos weren't served right away or there just wasn't enough meat on the tortilla in the first place to retain heat long enough to make it to the table. When you do the math, $15 for 3 of their tacos is a rip off. You'll need to spend $30 to feel full but you'll regret it. You're better off eating tacos anywhere else in the city, and that includes eating the fish tacos at Moxie's. Blanco's tacos are doing a disservice to the people of Calgary and they do not represent what a proper street taco is. read more

Really cool spot with nice outdoor seating. Service was great too. Large selection of tequila if you're into that. Mexican food is nothing crazy but great spot for patio surfing. read more

Wicked drinks, great tequila, staff is awesome can't wait to come back! Will be back soon.

I have eaten at blanco a handful of times so far and every time it has been better than the next, I love the cantina feel they have created. The burritos are exactly how they are described (BIG ASS!!) and delicious, the watermelon marg is definitely a must. This place has a vibrant energy so if you don't like people or noise maybe you should stay home and be grumpy by yourself. If you are a day drinker try halfy hour from 3-5 everyday for 5$ margs and half price nachos, poutine and tequila. This will be my go to spot for delicious Mexican read more

Loved it! My bf & I shared the chill Queso. "Small" but soo delicious. I had 2 tacos and they were really good, especially with the side of guac. Super bad costumer service and the food meh! Normally I'm the kind of guy that if I don't have anything good to say I reserve my opinion but in this case I won't as I have never been treated so bad in a restaurant. The owners of this place are the same owners of Añejo. Food is terrible in both places. The only decent choice in their menu is the guacamole and you just need to pick a good avocado to prepare a good guacamole. The service... I don't know where to start but overall really bad. We were a group of 12 people. We got to the place around 10pm and the place was semi full. The managers of the place were two of the owners. One of them (Cliff Harvey) treated us really bad since we got there. Half of us got a table and the other half we sat at the bar. We ordered food and drinks and I have to say that Jacob our server and bar tender was amazing, he was really friendly and a very customer service oriented guy who enjoy what he does for living. After an hour or so one of the tables besides our friends got vacant and we asked the manager if we could take it to join the other half of the group. His response was NO. He said you guys are all settled at the bar so we will keep serving you where you are and he gave the table to other people who were just arriving to the restaurant with no reservation just like us. Bottom line he only cared about getting people in the restaurant to spend their money but he cared less about offering a good customer service. Bad food and bad service is the worst combination ever so I will never go back to that place again. read more

I'm not surprised that this restaurant only has a 3-star rating. Last night a group of four of us went to Blanco for their 1/2 price nachos, after we saw an ad on Facebook stating simply they had "1/2 price nachos everyday." When we arrived, we were disappointed to discover the nachos were not half price. We asked our [unhelpful] server why they weren't half price, showing her the ad we saw on Facebook. She said she had to ask the kitchen staff and returned about 15 minutes later to share that half price nachos are only available during the happy hour. When I saw the ad, I thought it was maybe a May promotion or something; I had no idea it was only available at a certain time of day. We expressed our disappointment in the misleading ad, but the waitress didn't care at all. We ended up ordering the nachos full price, along with some margaritas. The food was ok - nothing to write home about. The margaritas were yummy. But overall, the service was subpar. We ended up getting a different server for the remainder of our stay by fluke, which made an improvement, but the false advertising was very misleading. Blanco needs to alter their Facebook and Instagram ad to include the hours of availability. We felt as if they should've honoured the discount for their lack of clarity in the ad. read more

How this place just ruined my friend's birthday.. This is my first time eating at this restaurant with some friends to celebrate their birthdays and it is the WORST customer service experience. The food was okay and a bit pricey than Anejo but that wasn't the problem. The problem started when we were printed out the bill. First of all, it was one large bill and the server didnt asked if we wanted separate bills. One side of the table (which was my side) had the physical bill and a friend took a picture of the bill so that we can sort out how much we all owe. As soon we had calculated our portion, the server came with the machine so that we could pay. I even remember asking the server that I only had this, what should my total be? She said to me "Oh check the bill and calculate it yourself". So I was like wow okay, I have never heard a server talk to me like that before. As soon as we were done paying with our bill, a NEW employee came back with a NEW printed receipt and said that we were short 160$!! We couldn't understand how this was possible. We then took out a pen and marked who ordered what and found quite a few items were NOT ordered by our table. We then remembered that our friend took a picture of the ORIGINAL bill so we compared that to the NEW bill. We then noticed that we were OVERCHARGED a LOT MORE and there were extra foods that we did not order. At this point our server and this other employee were NO WHERE to be found. A few of my friends then went all the way at the back of the restaurant to express concerns about the new printed bill. The server even ADMITTED that she had added items that were for another table by mistake. However, she did not come to us about this mistake or made any effort to correct it. We wasted a good 45 minutes standing at the restaurant without anyone helping us. The last time we saw her at our table was when she rang our cards through. The employees didn't say sorry or print us a new bill with the food we did not order voided. Seeing as the server already had our money, she was done with us and no one bothered to hear our concerns. read more

Last time we were here a couple weeks ago and it was busy we were told to seat ourselves. This time we waited at the front 5-10 mins and no hostess came by so we did the same only to have the hostess find us and give us a lecture a couple minutes later. We still got a table and other than that the service was ok. Food and drinks were good as usually. A little loud for a sit-down place. Probably would have been 4 stars if not for the patronizing hostess. read more

One of the best happy hours in the city. 3-5 everyday. 1/2 price nachos and tequila shots - seriously how can you go wrong.

Not good. Have tried twice. Food is salty and mediocre. Veggie burrito was bland. Grilled fish tacos tasted stale. Margarita was delicious, I'd maybe go back and just get that. Service wasn't great either. read more

Had a fantastic night here, with my husband. The staff went above and beyond, in terms of providing professional and friendly service. We felt very welcomed. Our server did a great job of going through then menu and helping us make selections. She was knowledgeable and knew the menu well. Thanks for a great dining experience . read more

We have been to Blanco a few times, and the food has been what brings us back, the service is always not nearly as good as the food they serve. Tonight, we got there at 8pm, without a reservation, but fully expecting to wait for a table. We put our name on the list and we're told the wait would be 45 minutes. We left our phone number and they said they would call us.. over 45 minutes later we went back and they said it would be ANOTHER 40 minutes. We told them we would wait and again they would call us when the had a table for us. It is now TWO AND A HALF HOURS later and still no call for a table. We ended up going to another restaurant for dinner and drinks. A previous time we went with a reservation because it was going to be a large group. I called and let them know it would be for ten people, a week in advance. Then three days before I called and let them know that it would be thirteen people instead. When we got there we were crammed into a table that wasn't even big enough for the original ten people. Unfortunately the food there is really good, but not worth going back because of the crappy service and overcrowded space. read more
