    Great location sketchy pergola lol
    Shawn L.

Great place for drinks and solid food. Sitting at the outdoor bar in the sun with a margarita takes you to Mexico. My only concern is whoever built the pergola. Lol I would not sit outside on a windy day! Seems to have been built by high school kids. Otherwise great place!

I'm always shocked that I don't hear more about this restaurant! Their patio on Kensington is gorgeous, and as much as I almost want to keep it to myself, I do hope they become one of the 'foodie spots' in Calgary over the summer, because they certainly deserve it. The full patio wasn't open when we went (late April) but they have another outside seating area as well; we happened to be seated inside for this visit and the ambiance is top-notch. Service was equally fantastic. If you're seated with Kenedi, you'll feel right at home. Blanco's menu offers a pretty huge variety. Classic apps of the chips-and-dip variety and baseline build-your-own dishes (tacos, burritos), plus plenty of unique options you don't find at every Mexican spot like jalapeño corn fritters! There's a protein choice for every taste plus a vegan taco option with mushrooms. Our choices were nearly all flawless. I started out with a BYO taco trio, choosing tilapia & mushroom as my fillings -- your choice of corn or flour tortilla as well! My boyfriend picked the Diablo Shrimp Tacos and ended up ordering a second plate because after offering me a bite, he had a hard time keeping any to himself! The sauce on the shrimp deserves a shoutout, some sort of mango salsa that I could have eaten by the bucketful. We finished with the Churro Bites for dessert, warm and satisfyingly crunchy, which come with a Nutella dip. The quality was great across the board and there was plenty on the menu we were still interested in, so we'll be back for more. My personal notes, accounting for the 4-star rating instead of 5: Some dishes aren't elaborated on very well in the menu and require asking some questions if you're a bit picky with your food. I found the mushroom taco to be VERY spicy, which some might love (and I know is usually appreciated at a Mexican restaurant) but wasn't what I was hoping for. In contrast, the Diablo Shrimp were expected to be quite spicy, but had much less heat than the mushroom and ended up fitting my own taste much better, though I hadn't ordered them for myself to begin with because of the indicated spiciness. Breading on the fish tacos was VERY crispy and crunchy -- again, some might love that, some might prefer a more fall-apart-in-your-mouth take on the dish. I didn't mind them. Finally, the churro bites were a relatively small portion for the price and it would be great if there was another dip choice like caramel.

For the owner, I can't say the same He has asked me "so, how can we can we improve at Betty Lou's". No matter what you say, it doesn't really matter. The owner seems to weaponize feedback, which is completely toxic. Sure, you're the owner, absolute respect to you for making this fair in this industry, it's accomplishment. However、please do not ask serving or bartending staff if you don't want genuine feedback. The owner will act against you. We requested one time that Blaine (the owner) does not come on floor if he's had more than two drinks and if he's not dressed in proper uniform. As an owner, sure, to some extent that's fine. But when you threaten a server, who is still new, you will fire them based off how long you're doing menu tours is not acceptable. If you didn't know, menu tours are just running through the drinks and food, which can take a considerable amount of time when you are busy. Now imagine the owner is so disconnected from the reality of the service, is also five drinks deep in the office. The owner will award you back off a few good days, but if you have one review where a customer believes you didn't believe you delivered "a personable experience" you're done. Now, that seems rough, but imagine an owner who values complete bullshit over actual truth. But I mean hey, would I work an environment where the owner can flip a switch, absolutely. We saw they were going to open at 11am, and decided to try our luck by getting there right at opening since we didn't have a reservation. We got lucky and got seated right away! - PARKING - Street parking, make sure you take note of how long you paid for! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - The ambiance inside is so nice and airy, with greenery and natural light shining through. There's also a super cute swing area next to the bar area that you can sit. I really liked the overall interior design! The staff was very attentive for our large party throughout our meal. There are bathrooms downstairs as well. - FOOD - Bacon Jam Benedict ($20.00): Loved the flavor combination in this! The sweet savory maple bacon jam worked so well! We upgraded to the fried potatoes ($4.00) and they were pretty tasty. Carrot Cake French Toast ($24.00): We got one to share with the table, and I'm glad we didn't commit because it was just OK to me. I wish there was more mascarpone filling, and also a different sauce than chocolate because it didn't pair well for me. Winter Nights ($19.00): We wanted to get some greens in and chose this salad. I enjoyed the mix of greens and also the fennel salami which gave a salty bite! Truffle Parm Fries ($13.00): We also got this to share with the table and you can't go wrong with these! - OVERALL - Great brunch option if you have a small or large group! Really nice airy ambiance for a nice start to your day.

They haven't even replied to my messages. They do not care about patrons at all. I have written this review on multiple platforms and have even left a formal complaint with the BBB of Calgary. DO NOT waste your time on this business. They are horribly run. Said email: "I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding the December 31 event at Lounge 18, which I attended after purchasing three cocktail hour and party tickets. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet the expectations set by the event's promotion or the standards I would expect from your venue. The quality of service throughout the evening was extremely poor. The drinks served were noticeably watered down, and on two separate occasions, drink orders placed at our table were completely forgotten. The server's presence was very infrequent, resulting in wait times of up to 45 minutes to receive a drink. Additionally, the first drink we received at midnight was empty, and the following drink had visible lipstick on the glass, which raised serious concerns about cleanliness and attention to detail. Other advertised features of the event were also lacking. The "photo booth and props" were essentially non-existent, and the dance floor was far too small and poorly arranged for the number of guests in attendance. The music did not reflect the DJ experience that was promised and instead sounded like a generic playlist rather than a professionally curated set. Due to the overall poor execution of the event, we chose to leave early and ended up paying full price to attend another event elsewhere so we could salvage our evening. This was my first experience at Lounge 18, and regrettably, it left a very negative impression. Based on this experience, I am unlikely to return. Given the circumstances, I believe a partial refund would be appropriate, and I hope you will take this feedback seriously. I would appreciate a response regarding how this matter can be resolved. Thank you for your time and attention."
