This is a cute little restaurant that has 15% off on Taco Tuesday. Other than the water they serve tastes like Bleach, it was a pretty good experience. I ordered a berry mojito, which was perfect. The server was great, and they have expos who are also very attentive. We ordered guac and chips, it needed some onion, and or spice. The empanadidas although small were very delicious, we had beef and chicken. Argentino tacos: brisket, pickled onion, and chimchurri. The food was really good, and I liked the tortillas, we sat on the patio, which had a lot of action from 17th Ave. I would return to try more items on the menu read more

We visited during Happy Hour and found the food to be good. We ordered the Nachos and the Mezcal Tacos; both dishes were tasty, particularly the nachos. However, I wasn't a fan of the Nojito, which took a while to arrive and wasn't very good. The restaurant's setup is quite cramped and uncomfortable, and the tables were sticky. It can get quite hot inside during the summer. Despite these issues, the service was good and attentive. Overall, it's a decent Mexican restaurant in the heart of 17th Ave. read more

The only thing I can say is the decor was nice and the food was fresh. However even late night happy hour it was pretty expensive. Burritos $18 and tacos are $19 for 5. The amount of ingredients for 5 tacos was severely lacking. The place was pretty empty and we waited 30 min for a brisket burrito. It was mostly rice and missing the salsa and chmcurri and feta cheese. We were son hungry we wolfed it down b4 realizing the missing ingredients. There was no other table but the waitress forgot to put the order of tacos in after she recommended the brisket tacos. Lady... theres no other table and we only ordered 2 food dishes how can you mess that up? A couple shoewed up and they got their food faster. We had 2 beers as well. The service and time it took was dismal. DNR read more

We went to Gringo Street a week ago on a nice Friday evening and sat on the patio. We shared a selection of tacos and all were really very good. Lots of choices and the waitress was able to describe them all perfectly. Service was great too. We shared a pitcher of margaritas which I wouldn't bother doing again as there was a lot more ice than drink. The tables are very close together so if you are planning a private conversation good luck. We enjoyed chatting with the dinners at the adjacent tables and the two Mexican guys confirmed that the food there while not completely authentic was the best that can be found locally. Get there early as the place does fill up fast. We had an exceptionally enjoyable evening. read more

Ok for Texmex and some Latin food variation. Small and a little loud, so no good for a date, more for drinking while graving something to eat with some laud friends read more

Waiter was beyond rude and gave attitude. Drinks cost far too much for what you get. We were told food was no longer being served yet a larger group arrived after us and was able to order food. We had to wait over 25 minutes for 3 drinks. Considering that they have both an inside restaurant and patio seating, they should have more than 2 stalls in their washrooms... The one sink in their bathroom is also broken. Overall one of the worst experiences I've had, definitely do not recommend. read more

Great time with two friends sharing tacos on a hot August evening during Covid. The patio is small but the service was delightful and the food was yummy! We took our time ordering drinks and then tried one of almost every taco. Loved the mushroom, fish, Guinness short rib, tofu and duck. Wasn't able to try the chicken due to dairy but my friends said it was deelish. We loved watching people pass by but us was noisy. I mean it's 17 Ave after all on a summer evening! read more

The tacos here were absolutely delicious! Went during happy hour and sampled almost all of their taco offerings (FYI steak and shrimp tacos aren't part of their happy hour). My favourite was the pork shoulder taco that comes with a grapefruit/scotch bonnet sauce. All the flavours work together so well. They also have a fantastic cocktail menu - $7 during happy hour. I'll definitely be back for more tacos and cocktails. A note on service: I've been there a couple of times and the first time the service was not great. It was greatly improved the second time around though, thus the 5 stars. read more

Walked in on a Sunday night to find this place completely empty! Our sever seated us immediately and paid very close attention to our needs (perhaps a little too much attention..) We ordered tacos from the happy hour menu (yay!) and had the guacamole and chips. Overall a great restaurant with decent food. Unfortunately didn't make my list of places to go to twice in a trip but overall a great place to try if you haven't been there before. It would have probably been a great place to go to on a Friday or Saturday night for a girls night out. read more

A decent restaurant for with a few things that threw me off. Firstly, the Mojito drink was amazing, so a great job on that. Next was the Queso Fundido was great, but I underestimated how filing this plate is, but I find the tortilla chips to be on the salty side (they added salt). If you love cheese with a mix of different taste & textures, then this one is for you to try. The yam fries were also amazing and a fair priced menu item along with their Habanero mayo. Lastly the tacos, unfortunately, it took a long time before we got our order for this as the kitchen staff was lagging behind. The flow of order from finishing the order to the final check took way longer than what was needed (We were sitting at the kitchen bar & staring at our food order). By the time we received the tacos, the food was already cold, and it ruined some of my first impressions. My favorite taco flavors are Crispy Duck, Crispy Pork Belly, and the Fried Shrimp. Also, I was slapped with a $2.00 water fee on my bill which ticked me a bit, but we had to go since it took longer than we anticipated at the establishment. As much as I like the atmosphere, design, and ambiance of this place. I may or may not come back, depending on my mood. read more

Everything is really good and even better if you make it to their happy hour. $3.50 tacos and $6 drinks.. how can you wrong. I would strongly suggest making reservations, as this place is smaller and it fills up quick. You must try the Cheeseburger tacos!! You should also try the mS14 ( I think that's what It was called) Fries, it was saucy and had a little bit of a kick to it. On the Money was my drink of choice of the night , I love mint. read more

Went here on a Tuesday and it was pretty busy but no wait for the bar. It was a really nice place - cute lighting and great latin music mixed in with some rap as well. The server was so nice and always checked in on us to make sure we weren't in need of anything else. Got several different types of tacos - the guiness braised short rib, red curry short rib, cheeseburger, crispy pork belly and steak. The tacos were $5 each and were pretty small in comparison to the ones I had at Native Tongues - about 2-3 bites I would say. I liked the guiness braised short rib the best because the meat was really flavourful and it was mildly sweet. The red curry one was interesting because it had a sour pineapple relish on top of the meat but I expected it to taste more like curry rather than pickle which it didn't. The tres leche dessert was huge compared to the tacos and took about a half hour to finish haha Solid piece of cake topped with fresh whipped cream. It was really pretty too. Went here mainly for tacos so thats what we got! There are other things on the menu too like ceviches which I have never tried but maybe next time... read more

Sister restaurant to Cleaver, I finally had the chance to make my way to Gringo St (clever name). I'm a fan of Cleaver and so was excited to try their take on Mexican fusion. Much like Cleaver, their happy hour is amazing and definitely the time to go. We had a very large party as it was a birthday celebration and the server did her best in keeping all the bills separate and organized, which I 100% commend her for and appreciate. When we attempted to order more, there were a few moments where the server would only take one or two orders and then leave. Wasn't overly a big deal, just odd. She just had to come back a few times. We had a peanut allergy in the group and the staff were great about preparing and being extra careful with their order. Their cocktail list was amazing and full of variety. If you like lychee, definitely get the Latin King. I tried a lot of other cocktails from my friends and there wasn't one that I didn't like! Tacos are on special during happy hr so obviously we wanted to try as many as possible. While there were ones that I preferred over others, I overall found the tacos to be pretty average. I really liked the cheeseburger taco surprisingly! A common fav among us were the pork belly, crispy duck, fried chicken and the Guinness short rib if I had to pick a few. The place itself completely opens up which is great during the summer/patio season. It's unfortunate that my party was seated very far in the back as it felt pretty secluded. Overall the place was ok. The tacos were good, but nothing mindblowing. For sure take advantage of their happy hour menu if not for the tacos, definitely for the drinks! read more

The pictures on yelp look sooooo good!! But the tacos are really flavourless. The bar snacks are delicious though.

Where do I begin; we ordered appetizers, then when we asked to order our meals the waitress told us we couldn't because the kitchen was too busy. Weird. So we asked to get additional chips for our guacamole while we waited for the kitchen to catch up. The chips never came, so we had to ask again. Then the air conditioning was blasting, I'm not exaggerating. We were freezing. We had to put our jackets on, and tried to cover the vents with table cloths as it was so cold. We asked if they could turn it down, but they said no. I could go, on and on, but we were all baffled by the service. I don't think they could have cared less about trying to get repeat business. read more

Was really excited to try this place. Was a first time. Food was alright - lacking in flavour and the fixings that you would get with a regular taco but then again for 2$ a taco (during happy hours) I should not be expecting more. What really upset me was the lack of service. This was by far my worst customer service experience ever. We were seated for a table of 3, our server came in, greeted us and then left. We asked her about the happy hours and she told us that all the tacos were 2$ each. We went on to place an order - she didn't seem quite accommodating when we asked her to replace an order (just 20 seconds after placing an order) she came back telling us that the order has already been sent to the kitchen and there's nothing she can do about it - all while rolling her eyes at us. The highlight of this awful customer service was when she was clearing our table there was a taco I did not like - just ate a bite of it and left the rest on my plate. She asked me if I didn't like the taco, I said no - she then turned around and asked my friends at my table if they wanted to eat my leftovers!!! Who does that - why would you offer my leftovers to my friends especially when I am telling you that I don't like it. I wasn't looking for a replacement or a discount I just didn't want to eat the taco anymore. The bill came and of course, the tacos were not all priced at 2$, when we asked the server she was like well...its written on the happy hour's menu I figured you would have seen it. Again just the tone of conversation was very derogatory! Anyways the food is below par and the place lacks some basic level of customer service. I think you're not missing anything if you skip this place. read more

Don't get the pork belly tacos. They're so delicious that you won't be able to think of anything else. Definitely don't go to happy hour. You'll want to go everyday and it'll ruin your social life. (Although maybe get new friends because who doesn't love $3.50 tacos and cheap cocktails?!) Speaking of $3.50 tacos... it's not that serious, reviewers. Have a Mexican Low Rider. My review comes with a proviso: I didn't actually eat there. I booked a table for 2 and arrived on time only to be told that they only had bar seating. When I told the hostess that I had reserved a table, she simply told me that they didn't have that on their system. This wouldn't have been so bad, but the hostess really didn't seem to care... basically a take it or leave it kind of deal. I would have appreciated at least some attempt to accommodate us. Barring that, she could have shown some sympathy. But nothing! So we left and went next door to Cleaver, where we sat at the bar. read more

Passion fruit is a key phrase for me. If the dish contains it, chances are I want it. The pineapple passion fruit margarita was no exception!! I wasn't the biggest fan of the octopus ceviche, even though it had passion fruit in it - I'm more of a classic tuna ceviche kind of girl. We were seated at the bar and the bartendender was very friendly and he's the one that pushed us for the octopus ceviche. Although I didn't love it, I don't regret it. I needed to try it to say that I did, you know? I love how they delivered both my friend and my tacos on the same plate. It makes sense to do that and makes for a better spread photo that way. As I hail from Vancouver, I'm entirely spoiled by the tacofino culture of aesthetic tacos. Gringo street did not exceed my tacofino expectations BUT it was great for a night out in Calgary. When I say that it didn't work exceed expectations, I just mean that the tacos didn't blow my mind. They were tasty, but I wasn't wowed the way I was by an aforementioned Vancouver taco dining experience. read more

We were very excited to try this place. Experience started out great. As the night progressed we recieved our tacos. The mushroom taco is unedable and taste like cigarette butts (8 people agreed). Not one person at our table could take more than one bite. Overall I would give the variety and flavors of tacos 2 of out of 10. We mentioned to the waitress that the mushroom was unedable and she shrugged it off. When the bill arrived each bill was charged 40 cents for tap water. We actually all found it amusing on an $800 tab, but whatever. The best part about all of this, one of our guests came for 1 drink (booze). she kind of laughed to the girl that she was charged. The server proceeded to demanded all the bills back and gave us all new bills with upcharges for water to cover the last guest oh and we were still charged for the mushroom tacos that we sent back. Wtf... Terrible service. Would NOT tell anyone to eat here. read more

Long story short: bad service, tiny overpriced tacos that come out cold, charges for TAP water in dirty lipstick stained glasses, charges for hot sauce that was not even hot sauce ($2.50) without warning. My FIRST ever bad review.. ..but it was that bad. We have wanted to try this place so we did a walk-in at 8:10 and was told we would have to leave at 9 for a reservation. We did not have a problem with that. However, we were given 2 dirty glasses with lipstick and fingerprints and we asked her for a new one, which she never did. 18 minutes til we had to go, she comes up to us and says "did you eat your tacos or no". We did not get them yet. She gets a rushed order for us and out comes 4 tacos that are tiny, cold, salty, simply not worth $5 each. Mind you, we both have great jobs, we are nowhere close to cheap. These were just so unreasonable. As the other two tacos come out we have 10 minutes left until 9 and she gives us the bill and notices that we didnt even know we were getting charged for the sauce OR tap water and does not say a word. We still tipped, but that was horrible service and just okay cold and dry food. The seated neighbours were also complaining about their experience as we sat down but I thought it would of been minor. Taco joint with no hot sauce unless you pay 2.5 dollars for a creamy sauce with a "kick". Really want to give this place another chance because we enjoy Cleaver, but man that was disappointing af. Only okay thing was that the drinks were decent. read more

Can't say I've had better. I'm from Latin America and very proud of my culture. I've read some people bashing this place because they use gangster names and try to make fun of it. So if you don't like this you should stop going to movies and stop watching Netflix especially Narcos as that's what it's all about. And most people that are actually from Latin American they know the difference. You go Gringo st. To be entertained and hand fun not get into politics and debates. Loved it! We showed up without a reservation and did have to wait an hour but it was worth the wait. It was quite cozy as it's a small space, and I wasn't a huge fan of the attitude of the gentleman at the door as he wasn't super welcoming however it was extremely busy, and the rest of our experience made up for the cold welcome. Our server was friendly, fun and welcoming, as was the one who brought the drinks to our table, they both had plenty of suggestions and enthusiasm for the menus. We tried a few different cocktails which we enjoyed and the tacos were fantastic. Small but the taco menu was obviously designed so you can mix and match and still enjoy an entree. We also had the ribs and the pork shoulder and all the meat was flavorful and melt-in-your-mouth. Very excited to come and check out more of the menu! read more

Fun atmosphere and who can beat sitting on a patio during a warm night? There were a group of 4 with reservations yet it took us two moves to finally share a patio table. We did end up making it there! The high top that we started at was small with uncomfortable seats so was well worth the move. We tried it all! Guacamole, fundido, skewers, salads, tacos and both the churro and Nutella dessert. The tacos were great but the other dishes left me wanting more, especially for the price. If memory serves me (there were many margaritas!) the kale guacamole was $15 and yet tasted somewhat bland and small. They tried to make their dishes fun (one dip was served with cheetos on top) and presentation was nice. Really liked the shrimp and kale salad and thought the tacos were great. The rest, not so much. Got seated at 9:30 for a 9:15 reservation. Got seated at the end of the bar for a standard seating reservation. Servers arguing and reaching over us. We asked to be seated elsewhere but no dice. This place is as badly run as cleaver. We sat for 20 minutes with a drink each and our "server" didn't even come to take a food order so we settled up and left. Came here for happy hour on a Thursday. Service started out well, but as we added 3 more friends (which we had told them from the beginning that we would be a table of 6), the service got worse and worse and she gave our newer guests a lot of attitude. When we asked for hot sauce, the server replied quickly saying they have run out of hot sauce. Not sure how a Mexican joint can run out of hot sauce? The food was very mediocre. The "queso" with Cheetos was more like a congealed ball of cheese. Also was not a fan of the guacamole with peanuts on top with peanut oil. In my mind they don't go well together, but was willing to give it a try. I was right, they don't go well together. We were disappointed in Gringo Street. They charged us for water ("still" water, not sparkling) without first disclosing that there was a charge for water. In my experience, it is usually assumed that patrons will enjoy clean, safe drinking water. According to the wait staff, the owner has a filtration system which is why there is a charge... the municipal drinking water entering the restaurant is just as potable as the water exiting their filtration system. As for the food, it was good, but certain items were over priced... for example... the guacamole was good, but not $16 good. I would recommend visiting somewhere else ok 17th. read more

Can I give less stars? Minus stars? The food, honestly maybe a 2/5. Pork belly taco was alright. Service was lacking in timing, seating and greeting. Told to leave because they had a reservation coming in. Still had dessert on table. Server was nowhere to be found forever until abruptly telling us to pay. I'm Latin American from Baja , and I can tell you the Gang they're referring to in all the menu items, marketing is a hard up "rape murder kill" gang. This place never fails to disappoint. I sometimes wonder why I like to torture myself by repetitive visits to crappy spots and now I know why. I'm in a search for the most consistently awful food and service. The good news, I have found it in Gringo Street. Lunch started by failing twice to have my order for a coca cola filled, I ordered it because I don't drink and they kept trying to ask if I wanted a drink. I said "yes, the coke i ordered last time you asked me, the server stared at me blankly when I asked if my drink order was on the way. The best part, right after was waiting 20 mins in the blazing sun for an order of ceviche and 5 tacos. We were the only table that had ordered food, the place was almost empty. The tacos finally came out 3.2/10. The ceviche didn't show. I asked where it was when the tacos came out and we waited another 10 mins. Hate ate the tacos and right when I am about to ask for the bill, out come some bland cubed tuna fish with some coconut shavings and green apple. Oh and not to mention she didn't tell us when we ordered that the ceviche " sipping sauce" had tequila in it. I looked at it and immediately knew it was not going to taste like ceviche. This was one of the most disrespectful dishes my palate has ever been violated by. I felt like the tuna was a dirty uncle touching my special places. Immediately sent it back, got up and will never return. Usually I go for a lunch and enjoy the meal. Sometimes I take a shortcut, like gringo street, and unfortunately get my tastebuds violently assaulted. If you really must go there, bring some pepper spray to protect yourself. It will probably make the food taste better too. read more
