    "Brisket" burrito... mostly rice
    chewy b.

The only thing I can say is the decor was nice and the food was fresh. However even late night happy hour it was pretty expensive. Burritos $18 and tacos are $19 for 5. The amount of ingredients for 5 tacos was severely lacking. The place was pretty empty and we waited 30 min for a brisket burrito. It was mostly rice and missing the salsa and chmcurri and feta cheese. We were son hungry we wolfed it down b4 realizing the missing ingredients. There was no other table but the waitress forgot to put the order of tacos in after she recommended the brisket tacos. Lady... theres no other table and we only ordered 2 food dishes how can you mess that up? A couple shoewed up and they got their food faster. We had 2 beers as well. The service and time it took was dismal. DNR

We went to Gringo Street a week ago on a nice Friday evening and sat on the patio. We shared a selection of tacos and all were really very good. Lots of choices and the waitress was able to describe them all perfectly. Service was great too. We shared a pitcher of margaritas which I wouldn't bother doing again as there was a lot more ice than drink. The tables are very close together so if you are planning a private conversation good luck. We enjoyed chatting with the dinners at the adjacent tables and the two Mexican guys confirmed that the food there while not completely authentic was the best that can be found locally. Get there early as the place does fill up fast. We had an exceptionally enjoyable evening.

Great time with two friends sharing tacos on a hot August evening during Covid. The patio is small but the service was delightful and the food was yummy! We took our time ordering drinks and then tried one of almost every taco. Loved the mushroom, fish, Guinness short rib, tofu and duck. Wasn't able to try the chicken due to dairy but my friends said it was deelish. We loved watching people pass by but us was noisy. I mean it's 17 Ave after all on a summer evening!

The tacos here were absolutely delicious! Went during happy hour and sampled almost all of their taco offerings (FYI steak and shrimp tacos aren't part of their happy hour). My favourite was the pork shoulder taco that comes with a grapefruit/scotch bonnet sauce. All the flavours work together so well. They also have a fantastic cocktail menu - $7 during happy hour. I'll definitely be back for more tacos and cocktails. A note on service: I've been there a couple of times and the first time the service was not great. It was greatly improved the second time around though, thus the 5 stars.

A decent restaurant for with a few things that threw me off. Firstly, the Mojito drink was amazing, so a great job on that. Next was the Queso Fundido was great, but I underestimated how filing this plate is, but I find the tortilla chips to be on the salty side (they added salt). If you love cheese with a mix of different taste & textures, then this one is for you to try. The yam fries were also amazing and a fair priced menu item along with their Habanero mayo. Lastly the tacos, unfortunately, it took a long time before we got our order for this as the kitchen staff was lagging behind. The flow of order from finishing the order to the final check took way longer than what was needed (We were sitting at the kitchen bar & staring at our food order). By the time we received the tacos, the food was already cold, and it ruined some of my first impressions. My favorite taco flavors are Crispy Duck, Crispy Pork Belly, and the Fried Shrimp. Also, I was slapped with a $2.00 water fee on my bill which ticked me a bit, but we had to go since it took longer than we anticipated at the establishment. As much as I like the atmosphere, design, and ambiance of this place. I may or may not come back, depending on my mood.

Everything is really good and even better if you make it to their happy hour. $3.50 tacos and $6 drinks.. how can you wrong. I would strongly suggest making reservations, as this place is smaller and it fills up quick. You must try the Cheeseburger tacos!! You should also try the mS14 ( I think that's what It was called) Fries, it was saucy and had a little bit of a kick to it. On the Money was my drink of choice of the night , I love mint.

The pictures on yelp look sooooo good!! But the tacos are really flavourless. The bar snacks are delicious though.

Friendly tip: they have a groupon available right now where you can get 6 empanadas and a sauce (salsa) andfor $24. But if you contact the owner beforehand, you can get the same deal without purchasing the groupon, which can help a local business save some extra fees. I called beforehand to place my order so that it would be ready by the time I got there. They have a wide variety of flavours to choose from. Their deep fried picks pertain to mozza cheese, while the oven baked ones are more meat focused. I ordered an assortment of different ones so that I could try a little bit of everything: cheese only, cheese + mushroom + green onion, cheese + chorizo, spicy ground beef, regular sliced beef, and chicken chimichurri. There is definitely a difference between the deep fried empanadas and the oven baked ones. I definitely have an unhealthy favouring of the deep fried ones, but the oven baked ones are a good alternative if you're trying to stay on the healthier side. My favourite empanada was the cheese + mushroom + green onion. They were generous with the cheese (read: cheese pull action was evident), and the mushroom had such a fragrant and strong flavour. As for the meat selection, it was so-so. I tried to be adventurous and try something different, but trying the others helped prove my initial prediction - which was that ground beef is the go-to as it is your typical empanada filling.

We ordered a variety to get a good feel including the ground beef, chicken chimichurri, shrimp and the cheese churizo. I would definetly recommend the shrimp and the churizo. Didn't really care for the chicken chimichurri. It wasn't bad but not amazing either. One thing I did not like at all was the salsa, way too much cilantro for my liking. Otherwise prices were fair and you get a free empanada for checking in. I didn't really like the location, it was in this weird industrial place but there was plenty parking. The decor wasnt bad, there's great art work however there was room for improvement.

Tucked away behind a small restaurant plaza, El Padrino is not shiny or flashy, but boy do they make their food dazzle. We tried the fried plantain, bean and cheese pupusa, and the chicken pozole verde. The pupusas were amazing, filled with gooey and hearty goodness, and the curtido was crunchy and refreshing. The pozole... perfect for warming up on a cold winter's day. The flavors were spot on as well. Other pozoles I've tried have been too watery or too acidic without much hominy, but this one was generous with the hominy while carrying the perfect amount of spice. The homemade tortilla chips also made a splendid accompaniment. The guy running the place was friendly and clearly cared about our food experience. When we ordered the plantain, he brought us out the plantains to check if we were okay with the ripeness. One thing to note is that sometimes they're out of specific items. I wanted to try the horchata, but they were out the day we went. The tamarind agua fresca was a solid replacement, however. Prices are also quite reasonable; I think the bill came out to about $40 for two people who left feeling absolutely stuffed. I cannot wait to go back to try their horchata and chilaquiles (and to get pictures instead of eating everything immediately)!

A taco, pupusa, Taquito and 1 more item. There are different variations in their tacos and pupusa. They even have a special stew that is served only on Sunday that we need to try someday. BTW, there are tons of places in Calgary that make pupusa but I think this restaurant is the best. Great service and very welcoming. The only complaint I would have is this place does not have air condition. So can be very hot especially in the summer. Overall, delicious food and reasonably prices. Will come back and order other things next time.

On their website, they recommend doing a set menu for parties of 7 or more, although not sure if they still allow you to order a la carte. We chose the higher tier set menu which was $95 CAD at the time of our visit. The set menus are listed as having 3 "courses" plus dessert, however each course has multiple dishes, so it was actually more like 8-9 courses followed by 2 desserts at the end. There was so much food! We ended up with a ton of leftovers which we packed to go. My favorite dish was the tiradito, which was actually the first dish to come out after the bread. I think the premium set menu was worth getting over the standard menu for this dish alone! Other than that, every dish that came after was decent. My only complaint was that for one of the dishes, the fried potatoes were sliced/fried so thinly that it felt like they were making tiny cuts on the inside of my mouth. But they were still delicious and I kept reaching back for more despite the pain... There's a small paid parking lot for the restaurant, and we managed to snag the last spot when we arrived. Overall, good food and great value for everything that we got. Would recommend for anything looking for a more upscale meal. I would definitely be down to return if I'm ever in the area again, but ideally I'd like to try the a la carte menu if possible so I can choose all dishes that are more suited to my taste.
