    Beef & chicken empanadas!
    C B.

I love empanadas (tried the real deal in Valparaíso) and was super-excited to find a nice groupon for this small Chilean bakery. Went to their Manilla Road location over the weekend for a 1/2 dozen chicken & beef empanadas. The filling is authentic, Chilean 'pino': savory ground beef, egg, olive, onion & raisin. The pastry is so crispy & delicious, especially when deep fried. Spicy is my favorite.. Definitely recommended!

Love Empanada Queen! When I go there with my dog she comes out to take my order and brings it right out to me - captured here!

    El Padrino Restaurant

This might just be the best Mexican and El Salvadorian food I've had in Canada. Wow. This might be…read morethe epitome of a hidden gem. Tucked away behind a small restaurant plaza, El Padrino is not shiny or flashy, but boy do they make their food dazzle. We tried the fried plantain, bean and cheese pupusa, and the chicken pozole verde. The pupusas were amazing, filled with gooey and hearty goodness, and the curtido was crunchy and refreshing. The pozole... perfect for warming up on a cold winter's day. The flavors were spot on as well. Other pozoles I've tried have been too watery or too acidic without much hominy, but this one was generous with the hominy while carrying the perfect amount of spice. The homemade tortilla chips also made a splendid accompaniment. The guy running the place was friendly and clearly cared about our food experience. When we ordered the plantain, he brought us out the plantains to check if we were okay with the ripeness. One thing to note is that sometimes they're out of specific items. I wanted to try the horchata, but they were out the day we went. The tamarind agua fresca was a solid replacement, however. Prices are also quite reasonable; I think the bill came out to about $40 for two people who left feeling absolutely stuffed. I cannot wait to go back to try their horchata and chilaquiles (and to get pictures instead of eating everything immediately)!

It's a small restaurant serving different Salvadorian and other Latin cuisines. They do have alot of options to choose from. I ordered combo 14 which had a bit of everything for you to try. A taco, pupusa, Taquito and 1 more item. There are different variations in their tacos and pupusa. They even have a special stew that is served only on Sunday that we need to try someday. BTW, there are tons of places in Calgary that make pupusa but I think this restaurant is the best. Great service and very welcoming. The only complaint I would have is this place does not have air condition. So can be very hot especially in the summer. Overall, delicious food and reasonably prices. Will come back and order other things next time.

Fortuna's Row was one of the nicer dinner spots we had booked during our recent trip to Calgary…read more Since we had a party of 12, we opted for one of the Harvest set menus to make things simpler. On their website, they recommend doing a set menu for parties of 7 or more, although not sure if they still allow you to order a la carte. We chose the higher tier set menu which was $95 CAD at the time of our visit. The set menus are listed as having 3 "courses" plus dessert, however each course has multiple dishes, so it was actually more like 8-9 courses followed by 2 desserts at the end. There was so much food! We ended up with a ton of leftovers which we packed to go. My favorite dish was the tiradito, which was actually the first dish to come out after the bread. I think the premium set menu was worth getting over the standard menu for this dish alone! Other than that, every dish that came after was decent. My only complaint was that for one of the dishes, the fried potatoes were sliced/fried so thinly that it felt like they were making tiny cuts on the inside of my mouth. But they were still delicious and I kept reaching back for more despite the pain... There's a small paid parking lot for the restaurant, and we managed to snag the last spot when we arrived. Overall, good food and great value for everything that we got. Would recommend for anything looking for a more upscale meal. I would definitely be down to return if I'm ever in the area again, but ideally I'd like to try the a la carte menu if possible so I can choose all dishes that are more suited to my taste.

Every dish not only looks great and is presented well but is incredibly delicious and each plate manages to stand out as unique from each other. The cocktails are also great and thought out as well. Staff seems super engaged and educated on the menu and are happy to answer any questions, make recommendations and explain the thought processes behind the menu items. The only downside is the price as it does range higher than a lot of other options in the city however I would still say it's worth the price tag.

It's located in a strip mall and walking in you're first hit with bright lights and colourful decorations, giving the impression that you're in a fast food restaurant. The the food and service are excellent, so I felt that the decor took away a little from the experience. We started with the ceviche as an appetizer. Beautiful white fish with pickled onions, corn, and a healthy serving of fried yucca. I could've ordered a large as my appetizer, really good. As our mains we shared the Arroz Con Mariscos, a creamier Peruvian version of Paella, and Fileté De Pescado. Both delicious but not a great combo as both come with rice and salad. Everything was gluten and dairy free. I also had a Chicha Morada, a traditional Peruvian drink made from purple corn. Sweet and delicious! The prices are very reasonable given the quality and portion size. A little attention to the ambiance would pull it all together.

Yes, we had our food delivered to the table like they normally do, but we also had someone come around and make sure that we had everything we needed, just like you'd expect from a formal restaurant. In addition, I was really surprised by the fact that they have a liquor license! Maybe I'm just a bit naive, but I really didn't think that an establishment such as Fatburger would have the drive to get a liquor license here in Canada, but I will say, it almost convinced me to get a drink for that reason! Buuuut I was more convinced to get a milkshake instead and for that, I have zero regrets. I went with the Mushroom Swiss specialty burger with fries, and boy oh boy, was that a satisfying meal. First thing to eat while back in Calgary for the holidays and I ALSO have zero regrets about that. I went for a two-flavour milkshake and combined the Oreo with the Mocha Java... OH MY WORD, it was one of the best milkshakes I've had in a long time. My sister got the Fatburger Jr and we were both quite full afterwards. All in all, good meal, good service, good time.
