For years I have been searching for tacos that are great and not just good. Tacos Mexico provides exactly that. I went to Tacos Mexico for the first time last week with my friend who is from Mexico. We ordered an assortment of dishes, including 3 types of tacos (asada, cochinita pibil, and gobernador) and chorizo sopes. Everything tasted amazing. My friend said this was the closest thing to home he's had in Calgary. The gobernador especially somehow takes a notch above just "shrimp and cheese" tacos. The grill flavor was prominent on the appropriate dishes. I did find the food overall to be just a touch undersalted, but I added my own salt which is no problem. All that food which left us absolutely stuffed only cost $40-something including tax and tip. My friend has gone back 3 more times since, which really is a testament to just how delicious and authentic this spot is. read more

This was such a fun spot. The service here is absolutely amazing! Great team! We ordered and enjoyed some of their delicious margaritas. These could have been trouble, sooooo good! The food was pretty tasty too. I had the Chile Rellenos. It was breaded well, and the sauces were good. The only thing wrong was the cheese inside was still cold. We pulled up to this restaurant and we thought what have we gotten ourselves into. Then we went inside and found a vibrant, beautiful, well decorated little place. It was absolutely hopping at 5:00pm on a Friday and we got seated at a cozy table for 4. The menu was so enticing and there were SO many tequila options. I had a very delicious and dangerous strawberry frozen margarita, that tasted like juicy candy and not alcohol. I could have given myself a very bad hangover. The food was sooo good and very authentic. We couldn't eat all of the portions and loved the homemade tortillas both corn and flour. The amazing staff were very friendly and very efficient. I'll call out the toasted birria, nopales, and grilled fish tacos as options that not all taco places offer. At first glance it looks small (which is is- 16 tables give or take- max group of 6 and that's cozy or you wait a long time as they do not take resos) and a little plain, but once inside you feel like your in a small Mexican town that's hustling and bustling! I'm a huge lover of Mexican food and my Mexican colleague recommended this place. My partner and I were not disappointed! We got a plate with different choices of tacos. Carnitas, Al Pastor, Birria and Suadero. I got a Margarita and it was one of the best that I had in a while. Prices are good enough. Service was fast and good and the staff was polite. Staff are super friendly and menu is perfect size with enough choices without being overwhelmed. Ordered the tacos with pork and ground beef but will give the nod to the pork. It was a little greasy in a good way and so so yummy. You got four soft tacos for $10 which is a fantastic deal. This was probably the worst Mexican food I've ever had. Had high hopes due to the multiple high reviews on Google, but it was awful. It's surprising to me how you can mess up salsa, guacamole, and refried beans but somehow they managed to make everything taste bland. I ordered a 3 enchilada platter with rice and beans. The enchiladas were folded like tacos instead of the traditional rolled style and there was barely any taste in anything. My partner ordered multiple tacos and they had the same complaints regarding taste. The service was meh - kind of slow and the waiter avoided eye contact and wasn't super friendly. I noticed most people seemed to be ordering some sort of soup - so maybe that's something that has more flavor? Either way, we would never return to this place. read more

This is a cute little family owned restaurant. It was homey decorated with vibrant colors from sombrero hats and images of frieda. We had chips and salsa for $5 to start. It's not advertised on the menu but was quite delicious. We also had the mezcalritas for $6 as part of their Saturday specials. The smokiness from the mezcal adds a nice little kick to the usual margaritas. For dinner we went for something more authentic and different from the usual Mexican fare. We had the Pozole $12, it was quite interesting pulled pork and hominy soup- beware of bone fragments! We also had the molcajete $25: beef, chicken, shrimp and chorizo in a piping hot stone bowl- this also had a nice spicy kick to it. Overall, the restaurant was quite busy especially because of the birthday party while we were there. The service was not as great as they were probably too busy. Wow a Mexican restaruant that's not over priced and serves good food! I went here with my coworkers for lunch and everyone really enjoyed their meal. The server was very friendly and attentive even though it was busy and food came out fast. I would have liked to try more items on their menu, but I would rate 4.5/5. Went to Tacos Mexico Marlborough Saturday, August 26 around 4:30pm. We were refused admittance due to our part of 5 including a wheelchair. There was room. We have been there many times over the years and love it. This was unacceptable as those in our group went to their south Calgary location and were admitted with no problem. Don't think we will be going back and not sure how to proceed with this complaint. It must be a human rights issue. read more

We are from the states and visiting. We searched "Mexican" food on Yelp and found Tacos Mexico. The exterior had us a little unsure just because we aren't familiar with the area and there are bars on the windows. However the interior was really nice and the service was excellent! It was clean. They were patient with my elderly parents who aren't familiar with authentic tacos and are used to TexMex. It's a family owned place. We ordered all of these items: the combination sampler, the chorizo queso, birria tacos, pescada tacos, carne asada tacos, carnitas tacos, chicken tortilla soup, and the quesa birria (kind of like a birria burrito/quesadilla). Every single thing was so good! The fish was fresh and tasty, the tortilla soup was the best I've ever had. Everything was flavorful and fresh. We all loved it and wish we had one close to home. I don't know if this place just isn't good as take out because I ordered their tacos and their nachos and some pork mozzarella with flour tortilla for me and my husband at lunch off DoorDash and everything was gross. Their nachos were so soggy and floppy by the time I got it. Their tacos were so dry and lacked flavour including the meat. All hope is not lost for Mexican food lovers!!!! I can't think of anything bad about Tacos Mexico. It's the closest thing I've had to authentic Mexican food in Calgary for a decent price. It was super busy at noon on a Sunday; it seems to draw a lot of the post church-going crowd. We got the combination appetizer that came with fresh guacamole, salsa, refried beans, pickled veg and nachos. Very tasty for $10. I got 2 tacos al pastor and 2 carnitas. My al pastor tacos didn't come with pineapple like the menu said but the carnitas were my favorite of the two. Salsa came in adorable little jars on the side. My hubby got the beef burrito which came in three thin rolls alongside rice and more refried beans. Lunch came to $35 plus tax which was pretty good since we were stuffed full. Maybe I should take some Spanish classes because Tacos Mexico reinvigorated my love of Mexican food without having to fly to Mexico. read more

Another great find in YYC, we ordered: 1) Pozole Soup, super authentic, hearty and filled with so much flavour. 2) Chorizo con Queso, it was good but wished the cheese was more melted. Soft Tacos: orders come with 2 Al Pastor and Beef Tongue, both were delicious. We ordered the cheese quesadilla for the kids and they enjoyed it. The portion was big with a side of rice/beans. They give you two salsas for your tacos but if you like spicy ask them for the orange sauce. We will defend return on our next trip:) read more

This review is for their tacos only, but wow! What a great intro to this place! The decor for this small restaurant is very authentic looking. It has vibrant colours and it takes me back to some of my own Mexican adventures. Tacos come 2 for $5 (of the same kind). I got 3 different kinds (6 tacos) totaling to $15 which I found was fair and reasonably priced. I got the carnitas, barbacoa and the pollo pibil. All very flavourful, especially the barbacoa which I highly recommend. They all come topped with onions, cilantro and come with salsas on the side. They have lots on their menu to choose from so I can't wait to come back and try some more. I love me some tres leches cake so I had to try theirs. It was pretty sweet then what I usually prefer, but still quite​ tasty. The most authentic tacos in Calgary. The pescado tacos were excellent however my pollo ones were rather bland and flavourless, fortunately the onions, cilantro & salsa amped up the flavour enough to make them palatable. The burritos were kind of wacky. One expects a large flour tortilla completely encapsulating rice and a protein. Here, they were served as three skinny, open ended cylinders, more like a taquito or an enchilada. Also, grated cheese was sprinkled on top without even being melted. I assume that this restaurant is owned and run by people of Mexican origin but it still pales in comparison to most taquerias in CA or AZ.
