I greatly appreciate how she took the time to make sure I felt at ease since the system was quite complicated. She walked me through the systems as well and took the time to show me what I needed to know and what system was linked to which processes for the pool and the spa. She did all of this in under an hour. Her report was very detailed with great pictures. They were recommended to us through our home inspector as he did not cover pools. Victor was also very helpful in answering all my first-time-pool-owner questions. I felt bad having to ask so many basic questions, but he never gave me the impression that I was bothering him. He also communicated with me well, which is hard to find with contractors. He would text in advance so I knew what time to expect him, and responded quickly whenever I would text or message him. He stuck to the quoted price, even after he went out to buy a small pressure gauge for our pool filter. Overall I definitely recommend Victory Pools. They were friendly and professional. He was very unprofessional and is the most unreliable person I have ever worked with. They found that there were tree roots underneath the pool that had continued to grow, causing the ground to become uneven and the pool to lose its level. I was also told that the area should never have been used in the first place because of the roots. I trusted his judgment when he assured me the spot was properly leveled, but it turns out that wasn't the case. While the pool may have looked fine initially, the poor placement and installation ended up costing me a damaged liner and additional repair expenses just a year later. I did my research and interviewed a few pool builders (there aren't many options in NYC), and I confidently went with Pete & Pat. What stood out immediately was how sincere and honest they were with their advice about my backyard. Initially, I had a lot of bells and whistles in mind--which, honestly, would have meant more money for them. Instead, Gus Pools actually talked me out of several things. They explained that some of them really weren't necessary, but told me that if I insisted, they would still do them. Thankfully, I took their advice because the pool came out amazing, and I ultimately realized I didn't need any of that extra stuff. Once we finalized the plans, the rest was a breeze. Everything was done on schedule, and they were honestly no bother at all. They went straight to the backyard and rarely needed anything from us. One thing I really appreciated was how well they coordinated with Middle Village Construction and Breezy Electric. Bonnie was always happy (and patient!) to take our calls (sometimes there were many ) and give us updates on the project. To be transparent, Gus Pools recommended Middle Village Construction, and their quote for the pavers was comparable to the other contractors I spoke with, so I went with their recommendation. It ended up being a great decision because everyone was able to coordinate seamlessly. I also used my own electrician, Breezy Electric, and Gus Pools were just as professional when he had questions about the pool construction, lighting, and grounding. That kind of communication between contractors made the entire project so much easier. All in all, if you're contemplating making a major investment in a pool, just go with these guys. You won't be disappointed. And now, two years later, I can say that the service has been just as good. They continue to service my pool, including opening and closing it, and they've helped with any issues or mishaps along the way. They keep records of your warranties, equipment, hardware, etc., which makes things much easier down the road. At one point, I had an issue with one of the pumps and Bonnie promptly set up service. Pat came by and fixed it at no charge. That says a lot about the kind of company they are. For anyone complaining that they don't service pools they didn't build, take it from someone who had more than 10 different people come out to look at and potentially renovate my old pool. It's difficult to take over someone else's build, know exactly how everything was installed, and then be expected to stand behind a warranty. I completely understand why they operate the way they do. Two years later, I'm still extremely happy with my decision to go with Gus Pools. Highly recommended.

I saw some negative posts by a few haters about not being able to get Gus to service certain people's pools, because they weren't built by Gus. About four months ago, we signed a contract for a $15,000 project to rebuild all the pipes of an in-ground pool, for which I paid a $6,000 deposit. Just before the project was set to begin, I decided not to move forward (the reasons are another story I may leave for a separate review). Zachary initially agreed to refund the deposit, but that's when the horrible experience started. They first claimed the entire $6,000 deposit had already been spent on "materials," and that it would take time to recover the money from their supplier. The project itself was mostly labor, and even if every material had been purchased upfront, it would not reasonably exceed $1,000. I was never provided any proof to support their claim. They promised to return the full refund within six weeks. Partial repayments were made, but the schedule kept changing, amounts kept shrinking, and payments were skipped repeatedly with various excuses. Now, 16 weeks later, only about half of the deposit has been repaid.
