I surprised my hubs on his birthday by taking him to Blade & Timber for axe throwing! We had a blast! We went on a weekday at 2pm so it was not crowded. There was another group there and the co-owner Van gave us all a brief but thorough throwing and safety training and then gave us throwing tips throughout the time we were there. He was a great coach and had a good sense of humor. It takes a while to get the hang of axe throwing so don't give up if the first half hour doesn't go as well as you'd like it to go. I felt we both really hit our stride during the second half hour. My hubs and I both hit the bullseye three times each! And this is only our second time throwing axes. Highly recommend this place for a fun birthday celebration, friends night out, or work team building activity. What an amazing spot for a fun date night. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. We arrived about five minutes into the last hour before closing, and they suggested a 30-minute session so we'd get the most value. Even then, they gave us a little extra time and never rushed us out. During our session, we got a quick tutorial and played a 10-round game followed by a 7-round one, with two throws per person each round (just the two of us). There's a whiteboard to keep track of the score, which made it even more fun. They also have a menu of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to choose from; a big plus in my book! Had an OK experience at Blade & Timber. The online reservation was a bit annoying to deal with. Prices were a bit deceiving $124 for a lane (but it is only for 4 people), if you add more (up to 6) it is $31/head. You get a 1.5 hour block. Staff was a bit awkward. Most of the group was not familiar with axe throwing...they spent quite a bit of time "instructing" and then just let us go at it. It was even more awkward at the end when the instructor decided to spend 10 min of his time to show "trick shots" when no one really asked and we were all just awkwardly standing there while he threw and waited for him to finish. It's cool that they serve beer, but it definitely is a bit over priced. I was assuming drafts were available, but just having cans for $6-7 is on the pricier end. To top off the awkwardness, when I went to pay for the group, I already had a coupon applied via email, but the instructor said he took a discount off the top for us (receipt said birthday discount), when I already applied it on my res online. He thought he was doing us a favor, when I already had the discount online... Majority of the group had a good time (barring the odd instructor pauses), which is why it is saving it from a 1-2 star review, but from what I was expecting...definitely not as good of a time as I thought. This was my first time going axe throwing and I had a blast! Blade & Timber is located in the middle of Capitol Hill across the street from the light rail station. You can book a lane on their website for 1.5 hours at a time and costs $30 per person. You have to put a credit card when you book but you won't need to pay until after your time here and can be split multiple ways as well. Before you arrive I would recommend filling out the waiver so you can save some time when you get there. They recommend coming 15 minutes before your scheduled time and I agree because any delay cuts into the actual axe throwing time. When your entire party has arrived a coach will walk everyone through how to throw the axe and give some tips and techniques. There are different games that you can play and you can scan a QR code to read the rules. There is a two drink limit of only beer and cider because alcohol and axes don't mix well together and people can be idiots. What I really liked about axe throwing is that it's like bowling but the rounds go a lot faster because you don't need to wait for the pins to reset and the balls to come back to you. You throw the axe, pick it from the ground or the wall, and walk back and repeat. An hour and a half is enough time to learn how to throw the axe and play. It's both a chill and fun time but can get competitive if you want to make it so. One thing is that I wish they had more hooks for jackets so we didn't need to put them out on the table. What's not to like about axe throwing? Came in for my husband's birthday and had a great time. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They give an overview of safety, how to throw the axes and then later, show you some "trick" throws as well. They kept an eye on us without being intrusive and made sure we had what we needed. We were tucked away into a corner lane and it was great. The noise level is high (axes + wood=loud) but all part of the experience. We brought in our own charcuterie board and birthday treats and bought drinks at the bar. Very fun night. Great for groups! read more

We came here with a group of friends last weekend where the majority of us have not gone axe throwing before. You can make reservations online and choose which lane(s) you would like to book and they require a credit card to hold the reservation but won't charge you until you're done playing that day. I think it's about $30/person. One nice tip is that on Sundays (unlike Fridays and Saturdays) there is no minimum person charged for each lane so you could literally go with one other person and reserve two lanes next to each other and play for 90 mins. While I think Fri/Sat they require a charge of I think 4 or 6 people so regardless if its less they will still charge you a minimum. We all had a blast and everyone working there was really nice and helpful. When you arrive, you need to check in earlier and they spend 10-15 minutes going through all the rules and things with you before your time starts. They limit you to two alcoholic drinks per person while you are there for obvious safety reasons. Can't have a drunk person waiving around axes! lol Really fun but harder than it looks and It was definitely more skill rather than just strength. Go check them out! read more

Good times, great staff and fun experience!!! 2 of my friends and I went on Saturday 4/12 at opening without reservation. Sean checked us in, served us some beverages and went through the orientation with us and another group. We booked an hour and had a great time. Sean was funny, helpful and really made our experience worth every cent. Unlike the Portland Blade & Timber, this one only serves beer and seltzers - no cocktails but it was still a great time. Looking to kick some "AXE"? If so, Blade and Timber is just the place for you! Blade and Timber is located in Capitol Hill and is conveniently located next to the light rail station. It is completely indoors and they have about a dozen individual throwing lanes. My college roommates and I were looking for a fun weeknight activity and saw that the University of Washington Student Services was offering discounted tickets. Normally, a lane reservation cost $144 for 1.5 hours, but we were able to get tickets for $10 each through the UW event. When we first entered, we were instructed to sign an online waiver. Thankfully they had a QR code at the front desk so checking in went quickly and smoothly. After signing in, we were given a quick safety and throwing tutorial. The employees here are friendly and approachable. They are more than happy to observe your throwing form and give you tips on how to improve your aim and throwing abilities. They also teach you how to throw with one hand and two hands; I found two hands easier personally. It took me about ten tries to get the axe blade to correctly hit the board. However, once I perfected the technique, all of my axes hit right on target. I even ended up hitting a bullseye on my last attempt! I highly recommend Blade and Timber for group events and parties. It is definitely a unique experience that allows you to show off your Hunger Games axe throwing skills and competitive edge. I wanna say if you hate it here that much, just walk away, no one is forcing you to stay here, you r an adult, although you were wearing a kid mask. Really easy to reserve online. 2/6 had been throwing before and this was far and above the best experience. Our coach, Mike, was very good with the instructions. Every single one of us got a bullseye during our time after his great guidance. 2 alcoholic drinks/person limit while throwing. Ciders, beers, seltzers, NA sodas etc. No food served there but there's lots of great places to grab food before or after or order it in. Everyone was so nice. This is cool for a one off thing to try. The business could have a restaurant or make cocktails and probably become more appealing to a more diverse crowd. They offer can and bottle beer and that's it currently. No ambiance really. Could use better music to entice a vibe. Would I do it again? Probably not. I thought bowling is more fun and less risky. I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars on this. It was a good time. The staff is very friendly and mostly helpful. I have no basis to compare the price value so I assume its good. A couple of things bothered me. They book appointments back to back and I did not see them enforcing the time-limit. So we where late getting to our lane because they did not stop the people already there(and those people where not paying attention). They have restrictions on when you can throw two axes at a time. Even if you have been there before they made us wait until near the end of our time. Finally the boards in our lane where destroyed. You could hardly see the bullseye. I am fairly sure some of the axes fell out or did not stick because the boards where a mess. It seems to me if they built a 10 min buffer between appointments they could fix the target boards and ensure there is no overlap. For the price I think a fresh 2x4's is not to much to ask. I had a good time and may be back but I hope they increase the frequency of swapping out the target boards. read more

I planned a small corporate event here and it was so fun! They only have packaged snacks here, so you are allowed to bring outside food as long as it's not drinks (since they serve drinks on site). It was quite easy to just order takeout from one of the nearby restaurants and bring it in. There are tables in front of each lane so plenty of room to eat and mingle. Since we were one of the few groups present that night, one of the associates showed us some cool tricks with axe throwing that we could do. Overall I found this to be super fun, not hard for unathletic people to do, and very easy booking process. Only thing I'd say is once you make a reservation you have to follow through with it unless you cancel well in advance. Definitely a different take on a night out. Glad we decided to check out Blade & Timber on a Friday evening. Booking was a breeze, did so on their website. Since it was just the two of us we decided to do a shared lane with others. Total was close to $70 for two people. When we arrived we had do sign the electronic waivers in case we get a finger or toe hacked off. Our instructor, Doree, was extremely personable and gave us great tips for us first-timers. After about a 10 minute brief he let us off to do our axe thing. We found the axe throwing a great workout. We played a few different games to switch up the interest level. No alcoholic beverages are served but you can purchase water, soda, and sports drinks. We got lucky and had a lane all to ourselves even though we opted for a shared lane. We even got a chance to throw double axes towards the last 30 minutes. read more

The instructors were extremely knowledgeable and provided guidance to really perfect your throw. After you get the hang of it, they let you do your thing. We had so much fun and it got super competitive real quick haha. All the staff members were so nice. We had Mike teach us how to throw and how to play. He was amazing and very thorough which helped us pick up the technique and rules really quick. I don't think they have food but they have a selection of beer and some candy to buy. But we ate before it was our turn to play. I also appreciate the protocols they had in place for the pandemic. You do need a negative Covid test or your vaccine card to enter. Axe throwing. It's pretty much as advertised. They provide axes, and you throw them. Easy enough? Fun, simple but a bit lacking in repeatability, it's worth trying at least once. The long and short of it: 1. Axe Throwing: There's a target at the end of a lane. You are handed 3 bladed weapons. There are only a few things you can do in this situation and the least gruesome is to take aim at the bullseye and let her fly. There are a few games you can play, mostly resembling the typical dart games. The only issue I had with the activity is that 1.5 hours (what you get) is a bit much. After 45 minutes of taking turn hurling medieval weaponry the target was torn to shreds, the games had been played, and I was ready to move on to an activity with less throwing motions involved. Not bad, I just don't see myself getting overly excited to go back once I've tried it. 2. Instructors: You'll be given an instructor with your lane who will show you the proper techniques and games so that you're not just standing around potentially slicing open your friends. There are a few different ways to throw your axe which offers some needed variety, and are worth trying. They'll also help you out when you just can't get that underhanded throw to stick. Thanks guys! 3. Price: Share a lane for $24/person for 1.5 hours or $144/1.5 hours to book a private lane. a lane will support up to 6 people so it's not a terrible deal. You could spend that on worse. It's not that I didn't have a good time lobbing sharp things around, it's just that it's one dimensional enough that I don't see myself getting excited to do it again. A must do in Capitol Hill if you wanna feel like a badass! We had a fun and unique experience here that I'll remember for a long time. I called ahead around 15 minutes prior to us arriving on a Saturday night and they managed to squeeze us in with our own lane. After signing our waivers, we were greeted by a coach who discussed the safety rules and then individually taught us how to throw the axe. It's definitely a lot harder than it seems and takes some getting used to, but our coach's tips helped. He also showed us their recommended games to play and compete against each other, and later returned to show us a different throwing technique. You need to wear closed toe shoes in order to participate, but they provide super stylish Crocs for the people without so that they can flex on everyone else and look fly af. We all know Crocs are the epitome of high end fashion, and boy does Blade & Timber deliver. At the end of the session, it came out to be around $26 per person for 1.5 hours of axe throwing. They say they have "food" but it's just bags of Doritos. It was fun and I'd go back again. There's parking around the corner so that's a plus. This was a great experience! Got to throw one axe over the shoulder, underhand, left and right, and even as a jab. Then we got to do over the shoulder with two axes! Feels awesome! A little like bowling at times, and I'd love to make a habit out of it, but it's definitely more expensive - the only reason I dropped a star.
