I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this restaurant. We started with blueberry bourbon drinks that were delicious. We followed those with the lobster and shrimp pasta, and the short rib pasta. Both pasta dishes were excellent. Good portions, especially the short rib, and lots of shrimp and lobster, and meat in the dishes. I want to add that a delicious basket of warm rolls with butter was provided immediately. We really enjoyed and appreciate that! What ensured our pleasant experience was our server, Arsema. The restaurant is a bit chilly and she moved us to another table. She had the right amount of energy and desire to please. She even asked, as we requested, that they split our pasta on her order so we both could have each, but the kitchen didn't do that. She came back and noticed that. Great customer service. One glitch was that I did respond that we were keeping our RSVP by text and OpenTable. When we got to the restaurant, somehow our reservation had been canceled. It wasn't a problem because there was plenty of room. That could've been a problem if it was fully booked. There is parking towards the back of the restaurant at the alley. It appears to be two dollars an hour with a maximum of $10 on weekends. Extremely disappointing customer service, I visit this location often and service is going downhill. I was seated by the hostess and sat for approximately 30 minutes without ever being served. Two different servers actually stopped to ask if anyone had helped me, and one offered to bring me water--which I never received. After 30 minutes, the only thing I had been given was a menu. I finally went inside to complain. While I was explaining the situation to the hostess, the manager walked by, appeared to hear the conversation, and kept walking. I had to ask if he was the manager before the hostess went to get him. When he finally came over, there was very little concern or urgency about what had happened. He asked if there was anything he could get me, but at that point, the experience had already spoken for itself. I understand restaurants get busy and mistakes happen, but being completely overlooked for 30 minutes and then receiving such an indifferent response from management is unacceptable. A sincere apology and genuine concern would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, I left feeling as though my business simply did not matter. The restaurant is on the wharf with picturesque views of the Potomac. Seating is ample with both indoor and outdoor seating with two bar seating areas inside and one outside. We came for restaurant week, my friend and I gave our order of all 3 courses to a waitress. A long wait later (30 minutes) they came out with not our first course but our mains. We asked about the salad, they weren't aware we were doing restaurant week, this time it was the bartender taking our order. I didn't receive what I ordered but we had already waited so long. I received some sort of steak with herb butter which wasn't on the restaurant week menu. It definitely wasn't an 8 ounce New York strip. I asked for medium and it came out so well done it was like a hockey puck. As you can see there is a glaze and butter but it was so over cooked it was almost inedible. I only had a few bites before I just ate the sides. The salmon my friend got was also over cooked. The salads came after the main dish, they were essentially just arugula and onions with minimal toppings. The dessert was just okay. My friend ordered 2 glasses of wine and restaurant week. I ordered a Diet Coke and restaurant week ($55) the bill including tip was $170. I made a reservation and they sat us on the alley side so I didn't even get the nice view. Overall, I felt this restaurant was extremely overpriced. I didn't get to enjoy the restaurant week main option and left paying a crazy amount for very poor food. I would not recommend this restaurant. It makes me sad because I love Alexandria Restaurant week and it's a way for me to find and support local restaurants. The shrimp and grits was pretty good, juicy shrimp; the flounder was good, though it could've used a little more seasoning; the French onion soup was just alright it wasn't as hot as expected, even with the melted cheese on top; the crab dip was rich, flavorful, and served flaming, which was a nice touch; te seafood salad was decent, but the dressing felt a bit on the heavy side; the Brussel sprouts lacked flavor and was not cooked all the way through; the drinks were refreshing and tasted great. So, wow, I have had their burger many times and tonight was superb. I added bacon and it was perfectly cooked. Blackwall Hitch is by far one of the best brunch restaurants in the DMV, from the food, ambiance, music, and location by the water. I get it's probably supposed to be more expensive because of the location but we almost spent $100 here for two apps and half an appetizer with no drinks. We went here this Sunday afternoon for brunch and thank goodness we had reservations because the place was packed. We were celebrating our 18th wedding anniversary. We were seated immediately by some great hostesses who were handling their business despite the large crowd. Our server Hyman was wonderful offered us a glass of champagne to celebrate our special day. Brunch was awesome! You guys have added more food to the menu. There was salmon cooked to perfection on the carving station. My husband loves biscuits and gravy which is a new addition as well. I absolutely love the omelette station and everything was wonderful. The green beans were so good that I think I finished them before I touched anything else--well I did taste a little bit of mashed potatoes once my plate was sat down and they were good but they were lukewarm. The salmon was cooked to perfection and so was the crab cake I didn't care too much for the crab cake. The crab cake seemed to have too much breading for my liking. I guess I'm spoiled by the MD lump/jumbo lump crab cakes. don't think the menu said lump crab-only says Maryland crab cake. The flavor was there but I wouldn't order it again. I had chill wings to go which smelled amazing-however they were breaded and didn't hold up well overnight. (My fault).... Last but not least-I had a slice of blueberry cheesecake which was amazing..... It arrived with a side of caramel and a side of whipped cream. I like those place it's not too dark and not too bright. Well, it's been a minute since I've been to this Blackwall Hitch, but my partner and I returned to celebrate two of our friends birthdays. I was hoping it was better than my last visit, and it was. There was a band playing, which set a nice vibe. They had the usual far of spectacular brunch food, but we did notice something. The usual unlimited mimosa option was gone. And, it was likely for the best. That may have been all the difference at this location. If so, it worked. I had my favorite, waffles, and they did not disappoint! The bacon was TOP TIER! Thin, crispy and perfect. The red velvet cupcakes were divine. My partner had the oysters and thought they were tasty. I usually don't have the oysters at brunch because they seem to be.... I don't know, lower quality with no brine. But she said they had a slight brine to them and were good. We did have a few mimosas, the pineapple and mango. They were decent. It has that upscale casual dining feel with an open vibe on the water in Old Town. We ordered an assortment of dishes as well as the special. 9/10 across the board - the crab stuffed rockfish was the best thing I've tasted in while, the Brussels sprouts and Mac were delicious but the special (whole filleted branzino) needed some doctoring. At the end of the event, the Assistant Event Manger told me I did not meet the food and beverage minimum. Had I been notified during the luncheon that I had not yet reached the $3,500 food and beverage minimum; I would have gladly ordered additional food and beverages for my guests rather than having the remaining balance charged as a room fee. In fact, my guests were enjoying the appetizers, and I would have been happy to order additional food. I also could have opened the bar or purchased additional beverages. That is the opportunity I am saying was not provided to me - so be caution. There were also multiple service issues throughout the event that I initially chose not to raise with management because I wanted to give Blackwall Hitch an opportunity to resolve the $424 and $90 mystery issue professionally. Since my request has been declined, I believe it is appropriate to provide the full account of the service I received. Here you go!!!!: * I was instructed that I could arrive early to set up, yet when I arrived, staff did not provide the assistance I had expected with the setup. * I was left trying to complete the setup myself while under significant time pressure and physically sweating as guests were arriving. * Stephanie, who had been involved in the planning process, did not come by during the event to check on the event or my concerns. * When I asked Camille for assistance, I felt her response was rude and unnecessarily abrupt. * I had concerns about water being repeatedly poured into glasses when guests were not present at the table. * I had to obtain drinks and ice for my guests myself. * Service was slow. * Camille appeared to be managing much of the event by herself, which I understood and tried to be mindful of; however, that did not eliminate the service issues I experienced. * There were also issues and mistakes during the planning process involving Stephanie that added to my concerns before the event even occurred. So, they charged me a room fee of $424 and a mystery fee of $90. All I requested was a $515 certificate to use toward future purchases at your restaurant. This would have been a reasonable customer-service resolution, demonstrated goodwill, and provided Blackwall Hitch with the opportunity to retain me as a valued customer while generating additional business beyond the original $515. Instead of losing a customer over this experience, you had an opportunity to turn the situation into a continued business relationship. This feel discrimination against a African American Woman. Great ambiance with high ceilings, tons of seating for large parties (both indoors and out), and the best live music on Saturday nights--you'll feel like you're at a concert. We tried the stuffed fish, Creole pasta, calamari, chicken and fish sandwiches, and desserts. Everything was good. Con: When I paid my bill, things went wrong. The total came to $63 after tax and an added tip (via Apple Pay), but my actual meal was only around $40-$53--I just had coffee, a fish sandwich, and soup. I gave the waitress $20 cash and paid the rest through Apple Pay. She overcharged me, and when I pointed it out, she apologized for the "mistake," gave me back $6... but was still short by about $15 overall. Today we went for dinner and asked which apps were popular. The crab dip, tuna tartare and calamari were recommended. We went with the tuna tartare because it sounded light and refreshing. What we received were THREE single, stale chips with tuna one them and spicy mayo on top. This was priced at $24, or $8 per chip. An absolute rip off. Since this was 1.5 bites of food, we then ordered the wings. They were overly fried, dry and very salty. For entrees we got the mahi tacos and the short rib sandwich. The tacos were mediocre at best, pretty small and the fish was overcooked and not fresh. The short rib sandwich was the best item we had, but it was still only about a 6/10 and overpriced. As a sidenote: their gluten free menu has 4 items, yet more entrees including the salmon and kale salad can be made gluten free. The salmon was good. The dressing could have used more acidity and less sweetener. The mango drink was good. Lots of mango juice for those who love mango! It's something going on with the bathrooms in restaurants lately. In this location, the paper towels dispensers were broken, one of the toilets was clogged, the soap dispenser was out of soap, and the caulk was moldy. This is my first time to this great restaurant, and my eight year old niece was with us. We were quickly seated, and we were to request the chicken tenders child's meal quickly, which resulted in a happy child. My friend has a gluten allergy, and we were assured this was not a problem. My friend's rockfish was beyond beautiful. The rice and corn mixture it sat on was a perfect accompaniments for the flaky fish. My niece's chicken tenders were a hit with a great coating and lots of French fries. We ordered desserts, and this is where some comedy came in. My niece ordered the chocolate cake with ice cream. The kitchen found a gluten free chocolate torte with cinnamon ice cream, and I had the peach and blueberry cobbler with cinnamon ice cream. What came to our table were five desserts, as we were brought full servings (three scoops) of vanilla and cinnamon ice cream in addition to the torte, chocolate cake, and cobbler. The torte also came with a single scoop of cinnamon ice cream. So much dessert! We should have clarified the order. Most of the ice cream was consumed, but there was still some waste. I think it was a bit of a different vibe since we were on the top level where the large table is, but still had a good dinner considering how big our party was.
