I made a 2:00pm reservation for this afternoon about a week ago. The reservation process went smooth and the young lady who answered the phone was very helpful at that time. Today, after church, my family and friends took my Mom out for her 77th birthday to one of her favorite brunch spots, which is this restaurant. Very nice location overlooking the water and there was a live band playing when we got there. We arrived around 1:35 PM but our reservation was for 2 PM. Not a problem we'll wait. Around 1:50pm I asked the Hostess would the table be ready at 2pm and would they ready to seat us? She said "It'll be just a few minute, We're waiting to find you all the table" - HUH...Oh by the way, it was a party of 14. Around 2:15pm we were STILL waiting to be seated for our 2 o'clock reservation -__- all except three people hadn't yet arrived...Cool, not really cool, but there was nothing we could really do about it because my Mom and church family raved about how nice the restaurant was how good the food was and she absolutely loves going here after church. S/N: Brunch hours are at 10 AM to 3 PM on Sundays....mind you we did not get seated until 230pm and by this time the very nonchalant managers on duty said they would ask the chefs to extend the brunch 15 additional minutes so that would could enjoy our food. We were able to eat...actually scarf down our food. The selection was great. The food was pretty good, I guess. Would I ever go back? Probably not because even as patient and understanding we were, the service mainly the managers on duty and hostess stuff were so unimpressed with making sure our party was sat and they did not have any kind of urgency in making sure that we were seated at our reservation time and the managers kind of just lollygagged around until someone finally went to the big party that was sitting by the entrance and told them they had to get up because there was only a two hour limit on tables well if the party was told that at arrival they could've possibly planned otherwise and one of the managers even said well we have older guests. We don't wanna rush, but what about our older guests who are 77 and 80 years old who are ready to eat at the schedule reservation time? I guess that's just not a priority but anyway I guess I can say I have visited this place at least once in my lifetime if this review reaches just one person and possibly saves you from wasting your time and money then so be it. read more

This places waffles back and forth between 5* and 4*. Tonight was a 5* night. Thanks to our waitress, Lana, who made it an awesome experience despite being packed on the patio. So, wow, I have had their burger many times and tonight was superb. I added bacon and it was perfectly cooked. The bun held together on the bottom despite the patty being very juicy and full of flavor. Loved it! I liked the fries, they were crunchy and tasty. I love their sweet chili sauce (try it on the wings!) and had it on the side for both the burger and fries. So good! Love the front patio for such a beautiful night. Give them a try. read more

Let my lack of food pictures tell you all you need to know about the food here. Blackwall Hitch is by far one of the best brunch restaurants in the DMV, from the food, ambiance, music, and location by the water. They have a buffet of your breakfast staples, a waffle bar, carving station, and seafood bar featuring oysters, shrimp, and smoked salmon. I probably had about 3 plates when it was all said and done, and my friends couldn't stop raving about everything. We all got cocktails, and then shared a (huge) bottle of champagne (which they gave us orange and cranberry juice to make mimosas). We all left saying how we can't wait to come back again. read more

When we finally got our waitress, she was super friendly and attentive. The decor and views for the restaurant is beautiful. The food was okay and fairly priced. The shrimp and grits was pretty good, juicy shrimp; the flounder was good, though it could've used a little more seasoning; the French onion soup was just alright it wasn't as hot as expected, even with the melted cheese on top; the crab dip was rich, flavorful, and served flaming, which was a nice touch; te seafood salad was decent, but the dressing felt a bit on the heavy side; the Brussel sprouts lacked flavor and was not cooked all the way through; the drinks were refreshing and tasted great. They do have a happy hour, but it's only available if you sit in the bar area. There is a pay, parking structure below the restaurant. Overall, it was pretty decent. Came here with another couple for a double date and none of us finished our food. The food was mid at best, nothing was worth the actual price we paid. I get it's probably supposed to be more expensive because of the location but we almost spent $100 here for two apps and half an appetizer with no drinks. My husband got the crab flatbread pizza and it had way too seasoning and toppings - like all we could taste was old bay and cheese. The burger seemed wet? Not sure if it was grease or what. Stopped by for some nice ambiance and some good cocktails. This place is beautiful, wasn't my first time visiting so I was a bit familiar with h the environment. The restaurant seems pretty big-with two levels however, I've never been to the second level. The service is impeccable, I didn't have to ask one thing. The servers/bartenders and man all seem to be on the same page. My server named song-who was also the bartender was and is excellent!!!!! He makes the best drinks and he's quick with it. I really liked how the staff was working as a team. Even the managers were working hard and lending a helping hand which is something you rarely see nowadays. Everyone was so pleasant and worked with a smile. Every single employee that passed my table asked if things were okay or if anything was needed The ambiance is beautiful!!! The outdoor seating was closed due to the weather but the view was still present.... I ordered what I believe was called "The fisherman's catch". The platter came with Salmon, 2 stuffed shrimp a crab cake and 2 sides. I chose green beans and mashed potatoes. The food didn't take long and arrived looking marvelous... The green beans were so good that I think I finished them before I touched anything else--well I did taste a little bit of mashed potatoes once my plate was sat down and they were good but they were lukewarm. The salmon was cooked to perfection and so was the crab cake I didn't care too much for the crab cake. The crab cake seemed to have too much breading for my liking. I guess I'm spoiled by the MD lump/jumbo lump crab cakes. don't think the menu said lump crab-only says Maryland crab cake. The flavor was there but I wouldn't order it again. I had chill wings to go which smelled amazing-however they were breaded and didn't hold up well overnight. (My fault).... Last but not least-I had a slice of blueberry cheesecake which was amazing..... It arrived with a side of caramel and a side of whipped cream. I like those place it's not too dark and not too bright. Well, it's been a minute since I've been to this Blackwall Hitch, but my partner and I returned to celebrate two of our friends birthdays. I was hoping it was better than my last visit, and it was. There was a band playing, which set a nice vibe. They had the usual far of spectacular brunch food, but we did notice something. The usual unlimited mimosa option was gone. And, it was likely for the best. That may have been all the difference at this location. If so, it worked. I had my favorite, waffles, and they did not disappoint! The bacon was TOP TIER! Thin, crispy and perfect. The red velvet cupcakes were divine. My partner had the oysters and thought they were tasty. I usually don't have the oysters at brunch because they seem to be.... I don't know, lower quality with no brine. But she said they had a slight brine to them and were good. We did have a few mimosas, the pineapple and mango. They were decent. Came for happy hour on a Friday afternoon and had no problem getting a seat at the bar. The place is huge and we had a nice side view of the river from our seats. We each ordered the happy hour old fashioned which was pretty good. The food was good but both items felt like it was missing something to make it great. Crispy Brussels- nice crisp to them and the bites of salty pancetta were a nice touch. These felt like they needed a sauce or dip though. We liked them better when paired with garlic aioli or the chili sauce that came with the calamari. calamari- good flavor and the fried peppers added a spicy kick. I ordered the swordfish and it was seasoned very well and it had mashed potatoes and Brussel sprout that I liked but they were a little heavy with the horseradish I think. It has that upscale casual dining feel with an open vibe on the water in Old Town. We ordered an assortment of dishes as well as the special. 9/10 across the board - the crab stuffed rockfish was the best thing I've tasted in while, the Brussels sprouts and Mac were delicious but the special (whole filleted branzino) needed some doctoring. We tried the stuffed fish, Creole pasta, calamari, chicken and fish sandwiches, and desserts. Everything was good. Con: When I paid my bill, things went wrong. The total came to $63 after tax and an added tip (via Apple Pay), but my actual meal was only around $40-$53--I just had coffee, a fish sandwich, and soup. I gave the waitress $20 cash and paid the rest through Apple Pay. She overcharged me, and when I pointed it out, she apologized for the "mistake," gave me back $6... but was still short by about $15 overall. This spot used to be one of my go to's but has severely declined the past few times I have been and this will be my last visit. The food is not fresh and the service is slow. Today we went for dinner and asked which apps were popular. The crab dip, tuna tartare and calamari were recommended. We went with the tuna tartare because it sounded light and refreshing. What we received were THREE single, stale chips with tuna one them and spicy mayo on top. This was priced at $24, or $8 per chip. An absolute rip off. Since this was 1.5 bites of food, we then ordered the wings. They were overly fried, dry and very salty. For entrees we got the mahi tacos and the short rib sandwich. The tacos were mediocre at best, pretty small and the fish was overcooked and not fresh. The short rib sandwich was the best item we had, but it was still only about a 6/10 and overpriced. I came all the way from Richmond Virginia for the southwest chicken salad and it's Sunday it's busy they have a band playing and it looked like one thousand people were in the building. Being that I drove 2 hours for this salad , Darnell placed the pickup order for me over the phone ... In The middle of delivering food to tables . When I say - this man runs the show. I've never seen a manager wear so many hats and have a smile on his face. This is refreshing and it makes me believe in business again . As a sidenote: their gluten free menu has 4 items, yet more entrees including the salmon and kale salad can be made gluten free. The salmon was good. The dressing could have used more acidity and less sweetener. The mango drink was good. Lots of mango juice for those who love mango! It's something going on with the bathrooms in restaurants lately. In this location, the paper towels dispensers were broken, one of the toilets was clogged, the soap dispenser was out of soap, and the caulk was moldy. This is my first time to this great restaurant, and my eight year old niece was with us. We were quickly seated, and we were to request the chicken tenders child's meal quickly, which resulted in a happy child. My friend has a gluten allergy, and we were assured this was not a problem. The menu is large, and it has a large selection of a great variety of dishes. My friend opted for the crab stuffed rockfish, and I had the braised short rib cresto di gallo (a pasta shape I have never even heard of!). My friend also ordered a side salad as a starter, and salad was large with several different t vegetables including carrots, cucumbers, and different lettuces. The mains were incredible, though mine was huge!!!! The pasta was a perfect al dente, and it was filled with tender and flavorful short rib, mushrooms, carrots, and a succulent sauce. My friend's rockfish was beyond beautiful. The rice and corn mixture it sat on was a perfect accompaniments for the flaky fish. My niece's chicken tenders were a hit with a great coating and lots of French fries. We ordered desserts, and this is where some comedy came in. My niece ordered the chocolate cake with ice cream. The kitchen found a gluten free chocolate torte with cinnamon ice cream, and I had the peach and blueberry cobbler with cinnamon ice cream. What came to our table were five desserts, as we were brought full servings (three scoops) of vanilla and cinnamon ice cream in addition to the torte, chocolate cake, and cobbler. The torte also came with a single scoop of cinnamon ice cream. So much dessert! We should have clarified the order. Most of the ice cream was consumed, but there was still some waste. I just recently visted Blackwall Hitch for the second time in 3 months. The first time I tried Blackwall Hitch I was seated with one other person in a booth that had a clear view of the ferris wheel at the National Harbor. Hear me when I say the view at night is spectacular! The second time I went with a very large group. Even with the chaos of so many people, my group were actually seated fairly quickly in the bar area as requested. The staff both nights were very helpful and honored my request in regards to seating preferences which is a nice whether the restaurant was slow or packed. When it comes to the food and drinks my drinks and my meals were really good. So far, I've tried the jumbo wings, the spicy Italian pizza, the Blackwall burger, and their signature fries. For drinks, I've tried the Tropical Hitch and the Hibiscus Harmony. Everything, both times were delicious and I absolutely appreciate that both times I was greeted with a smile. read more

It seamed precooked and reheated. Nothing was fresh. The Washington state oysters were delicious. Food did come out very fast. The manager came around and we expressed our concerns. I think it was a bit of a different vibe since we were on the top level where the large table is, but still had a good dinner considering how big our party was. We got the truffle fries and Caesar salad to start which were fantastic, then I got the Chesapeake flatbread for my main and it was delish!! So fresh and had a lot on it. Unfortunately I found my Shrimp And Grits too salty for my taste. It wasn't just the shrimp, nor just the sausage, nor just the grits, nor the sauce. The sausage is normally on the salty side. Yesterday, I helped a friend of mine with his baby's christening brunch which was held at Blackwell Hitch in Old Town Alexandria. We were excited not only for the christening, but to host a celebratory brunch after church service to embrace our friend and his growing family with love and support. That was the intention. And while we were able to do that at church, once we got to Blackwall Hitch we had one of the worst private dining experiences of our lives. After being told that the a/c was broken and would be fixed by the time the brunch began, we arrived to a hot room without air or fans and were expected to hold a brunch in that room with guests that included a baby and several elderly people. We had to convince the staff to bring fans into the room. Not only that, but we didn't get lighting in the room until an hour after the brunch began, the service form staff was poor, and the venue's event management coordinator, Stephanie Guel-Sosa was rude, dismissive, and disinterested in providing any sort of relief for the disaster her company caused. As my friend has said, his daughter and his family will only get one of these days in their lives, and Blackwall Hitch did nothing to prevent it from being intolerable. They could have caused heat exhaustion or worse. I would highly recommend avoiding this restaurant both for private events but also for casual dining. My family and I had an 8pm reservation for 11 for Saturday, February 22nd. Earlier in the day, we called to let them know that instead of 11 we would have 10. The host ended up saying, "okay. We will see what we can do." We thought that was strange but then we assumed this is something he said out of habit- similar to when the movie theater attendant tells you to enjoy the show and you say, "you, too" out of habit. We checked in by 8:00pm and they told us that they were getting our table ready. Most of the group arrived by 8:00pm and the last two in the party arrived maybe 5-10min after that. I want to say around 8:10pm we were taken to the back to the table. They brought us to a table for 8. When we brought this to their attention, they brought over two additional chairs... for a table that was designed for 8!! We tried to be open minded and sat down. Then we realized how cramped we all were. It was ridiculous. We asked the host if it were possible to have the original table we made a reservation for... the table that should easily accommodate 10? We were told nothing else was available. We ended up speaking to the manager who didn't seem all that apologetic. His attitude was kind of, well this is all that we have. My husband spoke with him again and around 8:25pm he said there was a table finishing up in the front and once it is cleaned and set, we could go there. I kid you not, we were not seated there until 20 minutes later. We still had not had any water or any kind of service by 8:51pm. We did receive water at 8:52pm. We were starving and quickly placed our orders. The food did come out quickly. It took the alcoholic beverages some time to come out. I ordered a Mango mocktail and it was DELICIOUS. It was super sweet so I watered it down. That also helped that $8 juice go a long way, haha. For dinner I had the red brick chicken, fingerling potatoes, and brussel sprouts. It came with a thin layer of juice on the plate. The food was BLAND, especially the chicken and brussel sprouts. Dipping it in the juice on the plate helped a lot, but there wasn't much of it. I would definitely order something different next time or maybe bring some season salt to sprinkle on it. We ended up leaving a little after 10pm. The manager did not come by once to check on us. He didn't offer any discount or offer to return for the inconvenience. Idk. It was just really terrible customer service.
