This is probably Columbus's best breakfast. With the new reno, it's very nice and clean. The setting is unique, and it's fun seeing the personal planes and corporate jets taking off and landing. The menu is big with all of your breakfast favorites as well as healthy and hearty lunch options. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. The omelets are my go-to, and they offer egg whites if that's your thing. Pro-tip, order the hash brown casserole or biscuits and gravy in place of piper potatoes. This was a great place at one time and I would go here with my son and father at least once a week for the past 2 years. However the quality of food has dropped way off. Hangar 5 is a hidden gem, and I do mean hidden! I didn't see any signs for this place. I guess you just have to know where it is. Luckily, my husband did. It's in the airport, by the way. I ordered a pancake with blueberries and bacon inside. It also came with blueberry syrup. It arrived promptly and hot. This is a good, simple, all-American breakfast spot. It is located within the Columbus Municipal Airport and offers some really neat views of the small airport and the small Pipers that take off and land there. The restaurant itself has a neat airport vibe with an aeronautical theme (not in a cheesy way. They seem to cater to the senior crowd as a significant amount of real estate on their menu is devoted to the "senior menu". The prices are cheap, but the food is not exotic. They seem to be suffering from the same problem that has plagued most businesses lately; low unemployment. Almost all of the staff seemed to be under the age of 18 and were not enthused to be there. When I paid the bill at the cash register the teenager working it did not say a word to me, the 3 people in front of me, or the people behind me; not a thank you, hello, or a response to a hi. I used to come here often before the renovation and I liked it! Typical small town diner feel. My dad is a pilot so he was always thrilled to meet us there for breakfast and airplane watching. Last week was actually the first time in a long time that I've been! First time since the upgrade. There is a lot more seating and it feels brighter and definitely cleaner. Still leaves you with the diner feel but not like you should check the silverware before using. I had what I usually do, everything-French toast, eggs, bacon, coffee, piper potatoes and my toddler had a chocolate chip mickey pancake. Everything came quickly and hot. Everything was delicious and just like mom made it (or I guess me since I'm the mom now!). Coffee cup was never empty and no one left hungry. Very reasonably priced as well. What a great (and popular) spot for breakfast (at the Columbus airport hangar)! We went for brunch on a Sunday around 10, and there was a little bit of a wait (but not too bad)! The menu is HUGE. Want an omelet? Eggs benedict? Eggs and sides? Waffles? A breakfast burrito? Biscuits and gravy? French toast? Pancakes? Oatmeal....I'm serious, they have everything. EVERYTHING. After sharing at the menu for 10 minutes, I finally decided on the Skyhawk Pie - potato hash with two basted eggs topped with sausage, green peppers, onions, cheese, and sausage gravy. It was delicious, but I could only finish about 1/3 of the dish! Huge and so rich/heavy! But really good! The Hanger is so fun. Since my husband is a pilot, this is one of our favorite haunts. The biggest drawback is that it is also everyone else's favorite haunt so getting in there is sometimes a challenge. Earlier is better. Pros: Great food! I usually get breakfast or the Sunday chicken special. The owners also own a local soup shop so their soups are first rate. Their hash brown casserole is even better than Cracker Barrel's! Try the waffles, you won't be sorry. Their coffee is a real, consistently good, hearty cup of joe, not that silly frufru stuff. This is comforting home cooking like grandma used to make. They also have luscious desserts, so leave your diet plan at the door. Planes! If you like airports and planes, the view is bliss. Its not a busy airport but there are usually several fun private planes coming and going. Cons: Only open for breakfast/lunch. For fly ins: There is nothing to eat at this airport except vending after 2 pm. In all cases, DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME. I'm just sayin. Expect a long wait. Thirty minutes is typical, it may be more on Sunday afternoon. This is not fast food and is worth the wait. The staff is generally overworked and the waiters are not terribly enthusiastic. They are pleasant enough and do what is required, but do not expect to be schmoozed or have your coffee topped off without asking or for anything quick and snappy to happen. If you just relax, take your time, bring an interesting companion and go with it, you'll have a great experience. If you want to pop in for a quick meal or need to fly back out immediately, you may have a problem. The whole airport has recently been renovated so the environment is comfortable for a leisurely visit. Note: If you plan to be here on a major holiday (Thanksgiving, Mothers Day, Easter, Valentines Day, any big eating out day) make sure you have a reservation. They often have special buffets those days which are extremely popular. You will not get in without a reservation, even if you fly in. read more

Very cute place inside the terminal building at the Columbus Municipal Airport. Great views of landing field and runways. Piper potatoes (hash browns) are good but mushy, not fried crisp. Sausage in the omelette is yummy. Biscuits were very flakey, but dry. Western omelette is very good. Biscuits and gravy are very good. Bacon was limp, but tasted good. Service was a little slow, and had to ask for a few things twice. Most of the breakfast meals are under $10 and they have a nice variety. I really like their skillets and their combination meals. Their coffee has a nice flavor but if your waitress is busy you may only get one cup. It is really really cold in there so definitely bring a sweater at any time of the year. If you are in a pancake mood, this is the place for you. Honestly, their flavor and consistency is so yummy that I would recommend trading your toast for a cake! This place is unique within itself, when you walk in you can see the whole air strip , they have booths that sits close to the window. There's not a lot traffic on strip but the wide open veiw is nice. Far as the food , which I had breakfast it was worth the price. It came out hot and quick, I had french toast meal a 1/2 order and it was plenty. It's worth a one time experience even driving there, you have to cross a old bridge that can hold one car at a time I'm glad no one else was approaching when I was. The Hangar is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Columbus. The coffee isn't watered down and is consistantly good! I have had the veggie omelet, The Comanche layered breakfast thing, and the french toast, all very good and all things that I have ordered repeatedly. The toast is thick cut and very good! I always get the rye, however the white and wheat all come out the same thick cut goodness. Only thing that they could do to step up their toast game is to have some homemade preserves or something better than the prepackaged Smuckers stuff. I've never had an issue with the service, even when it is busy on a Sunday. Only once did I have to wait a few minutes for a coffee refill, but the food always comes out in a timely fashion and everyone at the restaurant takes time to help all the tables if they see you need something or simply to ask if everything is ok. I love the view of the planes and that makes the wait time (if you don't get there before the weekend rush) go by very fast. I adore The Hangar! read more

This place has excellent breakfast! The staff are very friendly and they have great service. The food is very delicious! I ordered the full order of French toast with a side of bacon and my wife ordered the #5 (2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon). We enjoyed everything, not only the food but the whole atmosphere! Our daughter liked watching the planes and a helicopter land near the restaurant through their large row of picture windows. We will definitely go back for breakfast again sometime, or even try out their lunch. It's no wonder this place was busy. read more

Good restaurant that commits highway robbery during special events. Avoid this place for any special event. Normally their menu is reasonably priced with a broad selection of items. I went here for their "Easter event" brunch (around 10AM) got reservations as you'd expect it to be busy given the holiday. A normal meal here any other day of the week costs ~$10 + drink cost. During their events they charge 2X and setup cheap plastic tables outside of their restaurant into the airport lobby to maximize their gouging event. For your double priced meal you get a buffet with 0 breakfast items (for a place that has half their regular menu as breakfast and isn't open past 2PM most days I found this appalling). The bus service was good but they would take your utensils and there were 0 spares at the buffet line or at the dessert table. Its like they didn't want you to go back for seconds when they themselves are charging double the price. The icing on the cake was the little piece of paper reminding you to tip your server well during the holiday. I get that they are working a holiday and all but this is normal hours for them and they are getting double the tips just based on the normal 15% rule because the restaurant is charging double the price! *throws yellow flag and blows whistle* unnecessary roughing of the customer! nearly $100 after tip is ridiculous for 2 adults and 2 kids. I have frequented this place whenever my parents fly into town and from hence forth when they fly into the airport I will pick them up and drive them to another restaurant even if it is a 30 minute round trip hassle. My brother told me about this place and so my family and I tried it out today along with my brother and his family, I have to say that it was worth the drive. I got pancakes and bacon and it was all very good! My kids got Mickey Mouse pancakes and they loved them! The staff was very nice and fast, and although there were no planes that landed while we were there, it's still neat that they have big windows to watch when planes do come by! So even though it's like in the middle of nowhere and it doesn't look like a restaurant on the outside don't let that fool you, this is a great place for breakfast! read more

This place used to be great but has recently gone downhill. The breakfast food is still decent, and I will keep going for the view/location. However, the service is not the best and the food on the lunch menu left a lot to be desired. My chicken salad wrap was made with a raw tortilla and had whole grapes in it- one still had the stem on it. I was disappointed because I had previously loved this place so much. One of those places locals know about. This one specializes in simple diner food, whether it's breakfast or not, in a small airport setting. If you're looking for anything even remotely healthful or more sophisticated than Midwestern diner (with the shortcuts that usually entails - though it's easy enough to order around the items that come from a can), this is not the place for you. Again: let me emphasize: you're paying ~7 bucks for a breakfast that will keep you full to the gills all day, expecting a "chef" is an effing joke, right? The staff seems to stay pretty busy, especially during Sunday post-church rush (maybe it's the pressure cooker fried chicken Sunday-only special...nomnomnom nomnom); service rates proportionally with how busy things get, but is certainly always friendly & adequate. Orders are served hot, even when they're totally bum-rushed, quick, quick, quick; tables seem to turn about every 20 or 30 minutes, which means not much of a wait, even when busy. Portions are generous to enormous (especially considering the price), the menu is especially varied (again, given the "diner food" caveat). Ingredients are fair - again, especially given price. Love their biscuits, especially for this far north. Place makes a fair egg, even sunny side up. Not sure about their Hangar Potatoes, but the Hash Brown Casserole is tasty. I do have to say, I wish that they took the time to get a good sear / flat-top crust on sausage / bacon / smokies / hash or a crust from letting the Hash Brown Casserole sit on the flat top for a few minutes. read more
