These gentlemen saved my wedding after I foolishly tried an online tux rental service that produced a poorly fitted and low quality tuxedo. You really cannot replicate an in person fitting. They have it all in stock and got me handled less than 2 weeks to the big day. I ended up needing a half size for the jacket, longer jacket torso, sized down vest. Everything comes ready to go, I didn't even open up the package til I got to the venue. No wrinkles. They'll even throw in an extra shirt at no cost. And get this, it was cheaper than the online service! Support this long standing local business, not out of obligation, but because they are the best option. read more

Last minute suit rentals for my family members who needed to attend my mother's funeral (in 6 days). I looked into quotes for two places, and this was the best and most reasonable. He also got back to me right away via email - not sure about the complaints about unresponsiveness. The store was spacious and clean, and very conveniently located in a Kaimuki shopping plaza. An hour fitting is about $1.50 for parking fees which are paid via credit card. They also provide shoe rentals for $20 if needed (we didn't opt for this but very reasonable pricing!). The husband/wife owners were gracious, warm and very friendly. Made both my father and brother feel at ease and comfortable. I would 100% come back again for formal needs. read more

Shopping around for a tuxedo is seemingly getting more and more difficult on Oahu with only a handful of choices at our disposal. I decided to make an appointment at Black Tie Affair when it was about 2-3 months prior to our wedding. My brother had gone here way back in the day, we're talking 20+ years ago to rent a very specific tuxedo with eastern influence, worn by Jet Li in one of his many films. He loved it so much he talks about it to this day and wants to get one custom made the next time he goes on vacation. For myself, however, I was looking for a bit more of a classic look with a little modern flare. I walked in asking them to make me look like John Wick and so they did. We went all black and had to go with the ultra slim pants to compliment my skinny legs. It was a fun fitting and we definitely joked around about how tight everything was and how hot it would be in the mid afternoon of a summer day, but that's ultimately part of the wedding experience and it really wasn't all that bad if I'm being honest. After the fitting, I believe I confirmed my selection a week or two following and decided to go with my own tie and dress shirt which turned out to be the right call. Pricing was in fact probably the best I've seen out of the three places I had visited. My fiancee, however, was seemingly not very fond of the all black look so on the day of the wedding I brought my custom tailored white dress shirt and black tie with the intent of changing into all black once we were in the AC at the reception. Turns out that it wasn't in the cards for a wardrobe change so I stuck with what my wife ended up liking and that's that, no regrets. I've seen some of the photos guests were taking and I think it turned out great. Pick up is a day prior to your event and you can schedule dropoff at the time of pickup for the day following your event. Don't forget to bring a mask before heading over for your appointments. I enjoyed talking story with the folks here and I highly recommend making a stop at the Black Tie Affair for your next... Black tie affair. read more

Very professional and great service. Selection is exactly what we wanted. The only thing that I encountered was that at times when they are busy they don't answer the phone. Just a little advice email them and they will call you back and help you make an appointment. Great value read more

They used to have really good service, but very hard to get in contact with. One will have to email and this could take up to a week to get a response. There is another place that does actual try on the suit for size. This place is no longer the only shop that does this type of fitting. VOWs will have the suits for you to try on as well. Sometimes they're able to fit you in if needed (at Vows). I think service has gone down at Black Tie. It is a husband and wife business. Maybe the times we called was to overwhelming for them. However, if you need someone to respond to you VOWs maybe the better option. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for his tuxedo fitting since his friend's wedding will be in a few months from now. We arrived at the shop around 1:30pm and had to wait outside the door until an employee came to open the door. As the door was opened for us, we had our temperatures checked and my boyfriend had to show his ID for his appointment. I liked how all the chairs are pretty spaced out from each other but sadly I could not sit directly next to my boyfriend haha. There were a total of two employees at the time and both of them were quite friendly + helped my boyfriend greatly with the fitting. Quick tip: this shop is currently by appointment only! read more

I had an appt for a fitting at another place that is mainland owned but so happy we decided to try Black Tie Affair instead. Awesome customer service. Rex and Jimmy are so great and knowledgeable as to how to get the perfect fit and look you desire and you'll receive the best personable customer service! When you email or call them, their response is prompt too. Thanks for helping my son have a great and memorable prom and of course looking as handsome as ever! Highly recommend. Prom 2025 read more

The opening scene in the classic 1949 Oscar-winning film "12 o'clock High" shows veteran actor Dean Jagger walking out of a London Saville Row haberdashery thanking the proprietor with words to the effect of: "...in America I can buy a new hat in 2 minutes... thank you for an enjoyable 3 hours and 37 minutes ".... In today's world of instant everything, it's sometimes quite enjoyable (as Dean Jagger says) to spend time in good conversations while conducting business at a gentlemanly pace. This point occurred to me after spending an equally enjoyable 2 hours and 33 minutes getting fitted for a formal tuxedo for an upcoming wedding. The proprietor Mike was a consummate professional in all things associated with the very best in men's formal wear. It was comforting to listen to his sage advice and it was amusing to hear his incredible stories of "wedding stories " and tales of a bygone Hawaiian era. In fact it was his amazing and entertaining stories of celebrities, classical musicians, Stradivarius instruments, and local artists that made the time fly by so quickly. Mike provided expert advice on style, fit, wear, and accouterments. His shop sports a wide variety of styles and options but I appreciated that he also carried some of the more traditional fashions. I came away relaxed and pleased with the selections and with the customer service which was unparalleled in my experience. He took care of everything and I don't even need to clean the suit before returning. Totally world class, and my go-to shop from now on. If you are in need of men's formal wear, I heartily endorse Black Tie Affair for your consideration. Truly this firm is exceptional. Mahalo for reading my review. read more

10/10 recommend coming here v. Men's Warehouse. This locally owned + run business was much more professional than them. Mike, the owner, was great with responses and provided suits that fit our wedding vision perfectly :) My husband and his groomsmen looked so good on our wedding day and even had a mini-shoot before the event. We had an out-of-state guest who was able to get fitted 2 days before the event and his suit was ready to go with no problem. COME HERE YOU WON'T REGRET IT! read more

Came for my son's tuxedo fitting. They provided excellent service! Used them for my wedding tuxedos many, many years ago.

Came here to get fitted for a suit for my friend's wedding. The staff that work here are really nice and personable. Pros: -friendly staff -they were very fast and efficient. They could do my measurement and provided it back the next day! Really impressive. Cons: -depending on what time you come, the Parkin lot area can be pretty miserable. I came here twice during the work week. The first time I arrived around 11am and it was impossible to find parking anywhere in the lot. However, the second time I came, I arrived around 3:30pm and the lot had tons of open parking spaces, so plan ahead! -there is a fee to pay in the parking lot. You can pay at the parking kiosk or give cash when you exit. read more

Sooo, this place is weird.. Let's see, where to begin. Maybe with the complete odd ball owner/employee/gatekeeper whose opening salvo when you enter the store is zero eye contact and a mirthless: "Wait outside." Mind you, this is after you've gone to the trouble of requesting, in writing, an appointment, via email. That's right folks, the only way you can procure an appointment , for the two hours a week they operate, is by opening up that laptop to pen a letter. I'm surprised they didn't ask for a 650 character application, hand delivered by messenger to the store, to kick things off. If you call their number it basically says they are not there to help you by phone. Fabulous. Perhaps they are observant Amish and avoid speaking on telephones. Or, or, maybe they're just nuts. Answer the phone people, it won't kill you. Once you are deigned worthy of entering the store they proceed to sell you a pretty basic overpriced Men's warehouse tux with all the joyless fanfare a shoe salesman can muster when he hands you a shoebox dug up from the back. Awesome stuff. After some fussing around to hem your pants you're done. But not until they make sure you know, that the only way to pick up your item, is, You guessed it! Writing another email. I'd rather go naked to a function than deal with these weirdos. read more

We absolutely LOVED our experience here! We scheduled an appointment here after not being completely satisfied with our experience at Men's Wearhouse. Short version - customer service is outstanding and my tux rental came out less than what I got quoted at MW and the fit was also better and looked a lot better! We decided to come here after seeing the amazing Yelp reviews to possibly switch our tux rental to this place after not being so thrilled about our experience at Men's Wearhouse (it wasn't BAD, just not great). I sent an email to Black Tie Affair to inquire about setting up an appointment and received a call back from the owner that same day and got an appointment. The owner gave me parking instructions prior to ending the phone call, which we found very helpful because Maps did take us to the shop but wasn't necessarily how you get into the parking space. Parking entrance is on 12th (not Harding) and you will turn in between Hokkaido Ramen and 12th Ave Diner. You will need to take a ticket and I believe it was $0.75/hour. I paid a total of $1.50 for parking. On our appointment day, I was pleased to see that they're doing an amazing job at following appropriate COVID-19 precautions. Temperature checks, and they monitor the amount of people allowed in the shop at a time. We met with the owner and he did my fiancé's fitting and right off the bat, our experience and customer service was astounding! He explained everything thoroughly to us and made sure all our questions were answered! He also gave us some helpful tips/suggestions on how we could style the groom and groomsmen differently. He let my fiancé try on different things just so we could see how it looked. We appreciate all the help we received! My fiancé and I are trying to enjoy every step of planning for our wedding and who would have thought something as simple as where we went for our tux fitting made such a difference - also, your groomsmen would also be coming for their fitting as well so making sure to choose somewhere they would also feel comfortable is something to consider! After we did a little fitting, we got quoted and was actually cheaper than what we were quoted at Men's Wearhouse! And the fit somehow also looked better!! The owner and his wife are such nice people and we will recommend this place to anyone and everyone!!! read more

Another example of customer service and knowledge of the business makes a big difference. We had such a great experience from the beginning. I initially came to this shop just like everyone else, because they had great Yelp reviews. The shop owner Mike is the best! I called the shop and made an appointment for a tux fitting for my fiancé. His tux fitting appointment was such an easy and quick experience, an hour tops! We got my fiancé's whole suit with shoes for only paid $152! This shop has been open for 31 years, and they value their customers. If you're deciding on going to a big mainland brand shop or a small local community tux shop, please go here. Regret going with them for our wedding so much. There is no number to call, no store to walk into in an emergency because the door is always locked. When our guys showed up for their appointments, they stood outside for 20-30 minutes just hoping someone opens the door. (Email only). Knocking is pointless because they tell you it's "impossible to hear in the back". But it got worse. Imagine the horror when we received no response to our email about pick-up the week of the wedding! Everyone was frantic trying to find tuxedos, it was a nightmare. The owner finally called us back days later, wasn't apologetic or anything, "just missed your email". Save yourself and your wedding party this unnecessary stress. Black Tie Affair is located next to Curve. There's a big public parking lot with charge that's shared by all the other stores and restaurants. I still don't know what this area is called. Popular restaurants like Big City Diner's, Café Laufer, Via Gelato are located in this area. Anyhow, it's by appointment so I made one 2 weeks ago hoping that it would be a smooth process. When I arrived, I quickly realized this is a mom and pop kind of place. The couple who works here were already servicing people so I had to wait 20 minutes beyond my appointment time. I was little frustrated that they couldn't have me fill out their short form while I was waiting or my younger could have been trying out different sizes. Nevertheless, the lady of the store was very kind and helpful as my younger tried on different sizes. read more

My event coordinator suggested this place to rent my tuxedo, and I'm happy she did! I didn't have an appointment, and just walked in. Michael happily helped me out. He was very friendly, courteous, and straightforward, and extremely informative. He talked about the tuxedo trends and what, and how these younger generation individuals are renting different color tuxedos that his store never carries and need to be special ordered. Well, I'm not exactly younger generation, but I'm always a traditionalist. Black coat, black tie, gray vest. Suit me up! He was happy to hear that. I tried on a few styles and colors, and already have a decision made, but I still want to do more research. He told me it'll cost only $147 and change (tax included) to rent the whole tux. Sounds great! I remember renting a tux almost 20 years ago for $99 plus tax. And I haven't returned it yet lol. Black Tie Affair is definitely a great place to rent a tux for any occasion or event. This store is located in Kaimuki inside the paid parking lot between 12th and 11th Avenues, next to Territorial Savings Bank. The lot is 75 cents an hour, which is exactly the same as the metered stalls outside and across the lot. Michael is very easy going, honest, and professional. The prices are very reasonable. I'm probably going to get my tux here. read more

Wow. Talk about an amazing experience. I live in Mililani and I went to Kaimuki because of the yelp stars. There is a reason for the stars. The store is clean and well kept up. I was greeted upon entering and listened to a conversation the owner was having with a lady who wanted to rent tuxes for her wedding. Mike, the owner, is very intelligent and thinks of everything you need to make your experience perfect. Obviously he knows what he is doing. For me, he provided me with many options. I tried on a few jackets and a few baskets and a couple of shirts. I finally found the one that I wanted to rent. His attention to detail is extraordinary. He even makes sure that your shoes will fit with the correct socks. This is my spot to rent tuxes in the future! I will refer everyone to see Mike! Thanks for a great experience!! read more

Prom season. I remember how it was like for myself. It's a laundry list for girls. - Hair - Make up - Dress - Undergarments - Accessories - Shoes For boys: - Tux - Shoes - Hair I could handle the laundry list for girls, but where the heck to a find a tux, a white one, for my teenage son that's tall and pretty much out grows things the moment I buy it for him? Some suggestions I got yielded some pretty horrible experience from other yelpers, so I passed in taking my chances with them. That's when I remembered Black Tie Affair - it was near my old office in Kaimuki. Since prom season was already in full swing and he was in the middle of his Varsity baseball season, I made my son's appointment early to ensure a tux was available and he could get fitted. Black Tie Affair did not disappoint. I reached out to Mark via email and got a quick and professional response. He helped set up an appointment and from there it was literally smooth sailing. He and his wife are total rock stars. They were able to help "clean up" my baseball dressing kiddo and made him look great! Mark's wife is such a gem. She could tell I was having a hard time with the realization that my oldest kiddo was growing up and with his first prom, I was a bit lost - what does he need, how do I help dress him on the day of his prom, etc. She literally told me to allow him to make his tux selection, but chime in to help guide him and allow him to take the lead on this one. So I did just that. Down to making my son complete all the forms, getting info on pick up and return time, but short of paying. I got that part, I guess LOL! Needlessly to say, I was very happy and my son looked great with his date. Thank you Black Tie Affair! I'll definitely be back for next year's prom and every special event we have in our lives. Very excellent customer service, highly recommend renting from here! Mike (owner) and his wife are very friendly. And they do know their suits and tuxedos. Very important to make an appointment as they do get busy. My fiancé and I were looking for tuxedo/suit rentals for our wedding. We were referred by one of our friends that also rented his tuxedo's for his wedding from here. SERVICE: Mike is very friendly and always has a conversation with you. We really appreciated his suggestions on choosing a tuxedo or suit. Since we are planning a semi-formal wedding and to match my bridesmaid dresses, they recommended renting tuxedos for the men. Also, since we are renting 7 tuxedos that they have in-house, we were able to get a 20% discount. The tuxedo that we would like for my fiancé they don't have in-house, but we were able to choose one from a catalog and special order it for him. :) PARKING: Lots of parking available in the lot. No validation, $0.75 per hour. You may pre-pay at a machine within the parking lot or pay with the parking attendant at the exit. Since this place is open during the day, parking is always available. Since this is only the rental process, I will update my review once we receive our rentals and return them. read more
