I only give it three stars as my relationship with this review comes strictly from being a boyfriend assisting my girlfriend with a place to eat as she travels 12 hours back home. She needed a place to eat and as I was looking at her location I seen this wasn't too far off from interstate 90 where she was. Read her the menu options and she wanted mac n cheese. I called it in and explained that she's handicapped and I am ordering this for her. They were super accommodating and even brought the food out to her when ready. I surprised her with pretzel bites which she enjoyed. Her only real complaint was no utensils came in her bag so she had to wait to eat the mac. Love sitting out back in the summer. It's what got us to go there in the first place when they first opened. Absolutely love their cocktails. My favorite was The Stowaway, though it's not on their current menu. In its place, Fig Around 'N Find Out is my current go-to. Current favorite food item on the menu is the scallop risotto, which I got for my birthday a couple months ago. Every bite was phenomenal and there was enough for me to get 2 meals out of it. It was a sponge candy espresso martini. It was delicious! It was my first time coming here this year and I was excited to get the pretzel sticks. When I came here twice last year, the pretzel sticks were actual big fat soft pretzel sticks that came with two kinds of sauces. They used to be the best I've ever had. We ordered those as an appetizer. Unfortunately, they're cut up pretzels. They were a bit sweet and crunchy. They definitely weren't the same as the ones I've received previously. When I asked, I was told they were the same but were just cut up. I had lobster bisque soup and wings. My boyfriend had a beef on weck that came with au jus and fries. This place had a fun vibe. We sat near the fire and had a nice view of the patio. The service wasn't the best. We had Regan and she didn't check on us enough. Black Smoke is a bar and restaurant located in the Village of Hamburg. It was opened by the owners of First Line Brewery in Orchard Park. This establishment offers all sorts of cocktails but really specializes in bourbon, whiskey and craft cocktails. You can get your Old Fashioned or Manhattan smoked, which adds another level of complexity to your cocktail. They have two stories with tables and multiple bars. Two bars on the ground floor, one being a tiki hut, and one large bar on the rooftop. The view is great and drinks are flowing on the rooftop. One thing to note is that both First Line and Black Smoke play mostly country music. I'm not a huge fan of that genre, but I still love both bar/restaurants for their ambience and dedication to first responders, military and veterans. If you love bourbon, you'll love this place. read more

Long post because it was a terrible experience and I feel compelled to share. I made a reservation on 1/28 for a party of 18 for our annual Galentine's gathering, an event we plan months in advance. We specifically chose this restaurant for the brunch menu and drink specials advertised on the website at the time of planning. When our full party arrived at our reserved time, we were surprised to learn there was no brunch menu. When I asked our server when it changed, she shrugged and said, "a couple months ago," with complete indifference. Several other tables were also asking about brunch, so we clearly weren't the only ones misled. Understanding restaurant policies, including the automatic gratuity for parties over six and make things easier for everyone and ensure proper tipping, I asked if we could split the bill into two checks. This seemed to fluster our server, who responded in an annoyed tone that she'd "try to work with us." That interaction set the tone for the entire experience. The service was consistently neglectful. We were not checked on, drinks were not refilled, and we had to repeatedly ask for water and basic condiments (ketchup, mayo, mustard, dill b/c our sandwiches had barely a drop). Once our food was delivered, the server never returned to ask how anything was as basic service etiquette was completely absent. While we recognize staffing challenges, there was no visible teamwork. The bartender and manager remained behind the bar while our server handled the entire floor alone. We were the first table seated, yet other tables appeared to receive more attentive service. There was no urgency and no effort to support her. When the bill finally came (after another extended wait), it was split into two checks as requested. However, the card amounts were mixed up, causing yet another delay. When I expressed directly to the server that the service was terrible, she agreed and cited being short-staffed, but no apology. After payment, there was no "thank you for coming in." Before leaving, I spoke to the manager (who had been behind the bar and even took a photo of our group). I told him our experience was terrible. He immediately asked, "Was it the service?" which made it clear they were aware. Again, the explanation was short staffing. When I told him the service was not worth the 20% automatic gratuity on our nearly $550 bill ($84 in tip), he told me to "send a message on Instagram" and he'd have his son send a gift card. What's most disappointing is that the drinks, and music were enjoyable but the customer service completely overshadowed everything. Our bill could have easily been $200-$400 higher had we been offered refills or additional drinks. Instead, our once-a-year event, planned since November was embarrassing. As someone who works in the service industry, I understand staffing issues happen. But it is management's responsibility to step in, support their team, and take care of guests, especially a large party that reserved weeks in advance. Accepting a party of 18 without the ability to properly serve them is unfair to both the guests and the staff. We love supporting local businesses, which makes this even more disappointing. Customer service training and management accountability need serious attention here. Sadly, this experience completely ruined what should have been a special annual gathering. read more

Had a couple of Landsharks and ordered the 14oz. Ribeye. Steak was cooked to perfection, as were the potatoes- crispy outside, tender inside. The broccoli was also perfectly steamed, no mushy vegetable here! However, the best part of my visit was Connor behind the bar. If you find yourself at B&B, make sure Connor is your favorite bartender for however long you're there. Great attitude, conversation, and keeping those glasses filled makes Conner #1. read more

A late review but a review all the same... I came for my inaugural meal for St. Patty's Day weekend. It was full of crowds and so loud inside, but the food was tasty & the staff were friendly. We were supposed to be a party of 10 with 6 that showed piecemeal over the course of almost 2 hours. I ordered the soup of the day - beer cheese!, loaded Reuben tots, fried pickles, and the pork belly. By the time I finished the soup, tots & pork belly, I couldn't eat the pickles, too, so they came home for a reprise on Saturday for lunch. The beer cheese soup was a bit on the salty side (which is saying a lot for me because I like my salt) but I remember the pretzel croutons were amazing. The Reuben tots could have used more cheese curd & in hindsight, I'd have asked for the spicy brown mustard on the side. I'd eat that pork belly every day (and have my coronary with a smile)... they were fatty, porky bites of heaven. The nearby parking situation is dicey, since the major lot nearby is undergoing construction, but I'd definitely return for brunch (I mean just LOOK at the menu!!!) and I'd happily enjoy a quieter patio setting. read more

Walked inside using the door next to the bar. Stood there while employees looked at us and talked instead of directing us to the hostess stand. No signs pointing towards hostess stand and no sign indicating hostess stand. Employees saw us confused as to where to be seated and chose to look at us and alert bar staff and talk instead of helping. Eventually went all the way around to the other side of the bar to ask if we were supposed to seat ourselves since no one was helping us. Hostess abruptly walked by and said you have to go to the hostess stand. Thanks staff for helping us and not putting up signs near the second door. Okay a silly thing happened to me when I came down here to celebrate Christmas with my family. Black Smoke stoped serving specialty cocktails over a hour prior to closing. My family did the math for fun. We spent $28 on beers and high noons with what we ended up getting. We calculated what we wanted and it was over $60 for one round (we planned on staying a hot minute and probably would've gotten 2 or 3 rounds equating to over $200, in addition to the people that walked in and out with us who were also disappointed by the drink options.) The servic was great, the host immediately met us as we walked in, our waitress were all very kind and attentive without being too much, it was wonderful. A reservation was made in late January for a Galentine's Day brunch for 18 people. The day of the brunch, there was misinformation about brunch which not only confused my group but other customers that were there for the same purpose. Service was terrible and slow. My group was not checked up on once food was served. Drinks were not served promptly either. When the complaint was made, it was stated that the restaurant was short-staffed that day and it was mentioned that they would give a gift card for a next visit. My friend that coordinated this reached out to the restaurant in numerous ways to find out how to access this gift card. She was ignored multiple times. My friend then went back to the restaurant and was told management was not there. When she finally did speak with owner Shane, he was very argumentative and did not seem to care to resolve the issue. My friend then made a post about the awful experience and tagged the restaurant. She was then messaged by Alyssa who stated to maybe not come in the restaurant, asking for the owner and "bash" him when he is not there. This is absolutely unacceptable. Short-staffed or not, things could have been communicated much clearer from the beginning. I cannot fathom a restaurant not caring about a bad experience that an especially large group had and not make it simple to resolve the issue. Instead, my friend has been dismissed and ignored. The level of unprofessionalism and lack of concern is alarming. I do NOT recommend this place to anyone. This place really needs to do better. They also blocked some of us on Facebook when a bad review was posted. Very immature and unprofessional. read more

Might be old fashioned, but they're making a comeback in a big way! The chicken was decently hot but not overly so. Crispy, tender and tasty. The smash burger had really good flavor but if you're looking for pink in your burger, this ain't your sammy! The place was super warm and toasty in the middle of winter, which I really enjoyed. This spot had a one day soft opening last spring for Hamburg Music Fest and since then they have been building up their menu and getting their bearings. I've been in a few times for drinks and the cocktail list is unique, delicious and well put together, something for every liquor preference. Last night was the first time that I have dined here and we were very happy. We started out with the pork belly appetizer. A generous amount and cooked perfectly. My significant other ordered the classic chicken sandwich. He says it was really good. Perfectly cooked bacon, deep fried chicken cooked to a dark golden brown but still very juicy on a fresh brioche bun. I was hoping for the short ribs but they were out. I guess I'll have to go back and try again later. I settled upon the blackened shrimp jambalaya. Lots of shrimp, chicken and sausage and packed with flavor. Spicy but not overly hot. Overall service was great. And every time I've come has been a good experience. Excited to check out the roof when it warms up a little more. The outdoor space is great to visit too. Fire pits and an outdoor tiki bar make this a perfect place to grab a meal or drinks with friends. read more

I'm a 31-year-old adult with a valid, government-issued California ID, and I was refused entry because the staff apparently couldn't comprehend that California IDs are a bit more flexible than other states. Instead of handling the situation with any level of professionalism, they treated me like a criminal. I was forced to plead my case to multiple people just to prove I'm a grown adult -- and then the owner (I'm assuming) a short italian looking man, had the audacity to walk me to the curb and bark "you're done, it's a fake ID." Not only was he completely wrong, but the arrogance and aggression he showed were unreal. No apology, no explanation -- just pure attitude and ignorance. Once I was (finally) allowed in, the service was extremely slow. Took about 10 minutes just to get a bartender's attention. This place doesn't deserve your money, your time, or your attention. If you want to be humiliated, accused of lying, and physically dismissed for literally doing nothing wrong, then by all means, give Black Smoke your business. After all, my main goal was to try one of their "smoked" old fashioned cocktails. They put two large cubes in the drink, and my old fashioned, which is probably the only bourbon cocktail I drink, was just bourbon. They were generous on the bourbon, but it was missing most of everything which would normally be in it. The bartender than asked me if I wanted it smoked. Why else would I be there? The bartender apparently didnt do a good job smoking my drink, while I chewed on little chips in my drink which helped with the flavor. I sat there, sipping it while wondering why anyone would come here for this mediocre drink. I felt better hearing from other patrons that they usually have better offerings and better skilled bartenders. We had our drinks and left. Not this yr, not here. She made the reservation over a month in advance for a party of 18 based off their posted menus that included brunch. Well we get there and as we are sitting down someone asks to see the brunch menu and we're informed they no longer do brunch. Then we asked for coffee and they only had cold coffee. Then we asked if we could do separate checks as the bartender had already told my one girlfriend that they would and was denied stating that they dont split for individuals. Ok makes sense we were a large party but when asked if we could split it into three groups we were met with attitude and I'll see what I can do. The drinks and food came out slowly and not in any particular order. The server never knew who had ordered what when it came out. And they served the soup last, which I can barely call it soup it was so thick. We were never asked if we wanted second drinks and most of us just had the one and would've ordered more if asked or if it came out in a timely manner. There were also issues with the checks and processing our cards but I digress. A guy took our group photo for us and it turned out that guy was the manager. My friend told him about the poor service, which the server agreed about and he told her to contact the restaurant and that they'd give her a gift card. Well my friend never got that gift card and the owner said that he wasnt the one who offered it and why would we want to return if we had such a bad experience. Wow great businessman. Had an order of the burnt ends.. super dry nothing at all like burnt ends. Pizza was very good, nice blend of cheeses on the wing pizza. Nashville chicken sandwich was good; a bit over the top with the vinegar marinade. But good enough. The service was super slow. Not sure why except the servers may have been breaking together the entire time we were there, as they all seemed to be eating near the kitchen window. The atmosphere was super inside. Great pictures and ambiance throughout. I'd go back for some bourbons on the menu at the bar.... that I didn't get to sample as the server was quick to offer the check rather than "anything else". The next round they were both a yellow/orange color and insanely too sweet. We asked the waitress about the inconsistency and she said well it just depends on which bartender makes them. Did not ask if they were okay just walks away. Oh, okay. I'll just sit here with my $12 drink I can't drink. The cocktail glasses were very small and over flowing with ice. The ice water we asked for however, had no ice. I believe the drinks ranged from $10-$16. In my opinion, not worth the price. Our party was looking forward to ordering the pulled pork fries and pulled pork mac and cheese however we were informed the pulled pork was sold out. This was about 7:30pm on a Friday. I went with berry spring salad. The concept was great but way too much dressing that was already put on for you. Unfortunately I couldn't eat much of it because it was just saturated. I would say atmosphere is what makes this place. We liked the open concept and the roof top patio. However not sure how they will do in the winter in Buffalo. Love it here! I have not eaten here but have had drinks on several occasions. I love the environment. The bar is nice and they have a great outdoor patio as well. It's currently covered and heated during the winter months which has been nice touch. The drinks are great and the menu is always rotating with new seasonal cocktails. I would recommend Weekend at Betty's for a sweet vodka drink and my husband loves the ranch water for a refreshing tequila drink. The service is excellent and staff are extremely helpful.
