Single origin espresso
Jessica V.

Hurrah for a good coffee spot in CH! The biggest complaint I've seen regarding this place is service speed; at this time there's only one person running the operation here, so I can't hold it against them. Especially given that the manager is very friendly and happy to answer any questions. I only have the espresso to work off of currently, but it's strong and slightly acidic. Very tasty and full bodied. The ambiance is clean, bright, with ample seating and displays to look at. Sacramento's growing coffee scene offers high competition, but I'll definitely be back to try more here.

We finally made it in to check out Black Sail Coffee. It's located inside the Birdcage Shopping Center. It was easy to find with plenty of parking. We were immediately greeted and asked if we had any questions. After looking over the menu and special drink menu we ordered an Iced Matcha and Iced Blueberry Latte. Only wish we were hungry. I'd love to try one of the muffins. Inside is rather spacious with plenty of seating. There's also a whole back area with even more seating (including a couch). Both our drinks were delicious. I'd love to go back and try a few other drinks!

Great new coffee shop! Very good espresso and good chai lattes. Has some pastry options, many of them are vegan. Good and friendly service. This place is meant for you to stay a while and relax. Comfortable seating, lots of space, games and books! Could use a little more decoration to get rid of the strip mall feeling.

Lots of seating

Award winning third wave coffee roaster makes the leap into retail coffee shop. Lots of drinks for all coffee drinkers, from drip to espresso, affogato, and even some syrups. The space is enormous, and it would be a great place for groups to gather, play games, or eventually host open mics or book readings. I feel like there needs to be a retail bookstore or record shop paired with the square footage on offer here. By the numbers: Food N/A Coffee 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 4/5 Value 5/5

No complaints. Cozy and quiet vibes. Pretty open area. Affordable. And coffee was delish. I go a SF vanilla latte & hubby got a Carmel latte. Girly upfront was super nice and patient as we ordered. service was quick. Will be back!! Arggg!

This is "The Westfalia"

We've been back a handful of times since our first review and I'm now addicted to the Thai coffee. They have a seasonal drink list out and I got the Westfalia which came with a toasted marshmallow on top with a graham cracker and powdered chocolate. I wish I was dressed up more because this drink makes me feel fancy. Did I mentioned it's delicious?! Husband got the "Captain's Delight" and it's so good! I was expecting the espresso and coca-cola to be really overwhelming but it's complimented so well with the condensed milk. Black Sails continues to impress!

This coffee business just opened up on July 12th. It's a rather big place with lots of seating and a side meeting room for larger groups to gather if desired. Love the pirate theme. Not a whole lot of pastries but they'd been busy opening weekend so I'm sure they will stabilize by my next visit. My chair was excellent, with my drink being filled to the brim when it came out. Every employee was cheerful and excited to be open. Even the owner's grandmother was there hanging out and supporting the staff. Overall it felt very welcoming and I can't wait to go back and try more items from the menu.

Music system & a comfy seating area

I decided to try this place as I noticed it opened up not too long ago. I love coffee and I am always excited to try out local coffee shops and this one definitely stood out to me. I tried the Undertow drink and it was delicious! The owner roasts his own coffee and the prices are great. The vibe of the place is pretty casual but plenty of space to get comfortable and get some work done or hang out with a friend. There's a bunch of natural light and live plants are placed throughout the space & the decor is eclectic and the vinyl setup is a cool touch! Come check them out if you're in the area.

Iced lavender oat milk latte

Love this hidden gem. I found this place when I was looking for something in the area and decided to try it out. This place is hidden behind Ulta across from the Sunrise Mall. There are two entrances, one on each side. It is truly is a lounge, not just a coffee shop. There is a lot of seating and different nooks you can choose from. The space is very open but does not seem as sterile as it may come across in photos. During my stay there was rock music playing in the background. There are books and several games that you can choose from to entertain yourself. I had an iced lavender oat milk latte and it was delicious. (I felt bougie drinking it.) They also have vegan bakery items from Sweet Haven Bakery and other snack options, including gluten-free. The owner, Sean, was very personable and accommodating. There is a lot cool merch you can buy and their shirts are sold on their website at the time of this review. They have a cool mural near the register. I love the decor that has vintage pieces throughout. I'm obsessed with the artwork hung on the walls.

Seasonal fall menu

We got the Thai coffee and Vietnamese coffee. Both were good. Fairly sweet, but nice weekend treat. Service was nice and polite. I found it odd the cashier did not assist the barista as she was hunkered down with orders. Seating is interesting. Side near register has wood picnic tables or raise bar. Second area has a couch/chair lounge area and a long bench with cushion. Then chairs and tables. Probably need a little more comfortable seating in the area, as there is space for more. There is a book shelf with games if you are going to settle in. Sound carries, and maybe it was just the volume of the other couple not having indoor voices, but it was obnoxiously loud. I did not care to hear them. I do appreciate the variety of the menu, I am interested in trying more drinks. And bummer I missed out on the seasonal s'mores drink. A lavender mocha is one of my favorites and I may try so see if they can make one my next visit. I was interested n knowing more about the coffee brewed and the coffee club, but there is not any information. There was a list of roasted coffee, but no descriptions of taste profile. A little more posted information could go a long way for the business. And since the owners coffee roots are in roasting I am interested in knowing more. I think a coffee tasting flight could be an awesome addition.

The quality of coffee and customer service is impeccable! Nice variety with the menu options, and the vibe of the place is so cozy and comfortable. A weekly favorite of mine.

My new favorite local coffee shop!! I'm so thankful to have delicious craft coffee in Citrus Heights. I used to drive all the way to midtown on the weekends for a good latte and now Black Sails makes it much easier to get quality coffee close to home. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and there is plenty of room to sit and enjoy your drink, too.

London fog quality teabag

Really happy that my husband and I stumbled upon this coffee shop because it's our new spot. Today I came in since I haven't gone in a while and decided to try something new. I did a London fog which I've had at many other coffee shops before and I'm just kind of disappointed so it's not my go to drink but since I've never ordered one from Black sails, I thought I try something new and wow I am so happy with the quality of the drink it was super super amazing. The employees were telling me that they make it with a Bergamont tea, which is typical but it's paired with a plum and I think that's what sets apart the fog from the rest. The quality of tea is super super amazing. Really the staff here is super knowledgeable. I haven't ran into any bad barista. All the ladies here are really really good at what they do. I always get my coffee to go, but it's very nice ambience in there. If you wanna stay for a while read a book. Definitely a spot to read a book. They have soft low music playing so you can still have a conversation and relax without being annoyed large open floor plan and cute little plants everywhere.

I came during a busy hour which wasn't idea but didn't affect anything in regard to the taste of what I got! Typically I like to find a spot that's quietly busy so if you're wanting to do the same I would try to come when it's less busy as I found myself slightly overstimulated by the business and seeing all the seats filled up which otherwise is a good sign! The Banana Dream Match caught my eye so I ordered it immediately along with an Avocado toast + egg ( extra cost). They give you a buzzer for the food and you have to find a corner to wait in that's out of the way and pick your food up by the kitchen. The vibe was very open and I liked the different seating options as well as the abundance of outlets. I ended up eating outside to get away from the busyness and the I was in the middle of talking when the taste of the Banana hit me. The best. Banana matcha I've ever had. Which I didn't expect because I've tried so many but what I loved most is that the banana flavor was sweet but tasted like real banana and the matcha flavor was still present. The banana flavor wasn't just at the top either it was top to bottom so every sip tasted the same making it soooo good!! The Avocado toast was good as well a little on the tangy side but I loved the egg. Great spot when it's less busy which would make parking easier as well but glad I stopped in to find my new favorite matcha spot.

I ordered a mocha and the sweet cheese crepes. My mocha was the perfect balance of sweetness and chocolatey! I savored every sip. The real star of the show though, were the crepes. They were perfectly soft but with a slight crisp on the outside just like I like them. The filling was sweet but not overly and was well balanced with the slight bitterness from the berry topping on the crepes. Overall the ambiance, food, and accessibility make this a great spot for brunch! Will definitely be coming back.

There is also a side area to eat, however there were a number of flies buzzing around, which made it unappetizing (this was kept my review from being a full five stars). The indoor area is a mix of dark woods and faux plants, which creates a relaxed atmosphere. As for the food, there was only one plant-based (vegan friendly) option for me: the cilantro lime avocado toast. This came topped with micro greens and pickled onions, and with a side of potatoes. The portions were very generous for the price and the food was delicious. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the staff were kind. I also ordered an Americano that was good. This spot is like a little hidden green jewel in Citrus Heights. I hope more businesses fill out this complex so they can continue to do well.
