My experience was great from the desk to the end of the session. I booked an appointment with Alex Paiva a few weeks in advance. I am from Los Angeles and have taken a trip to Savannah to enjoy the city and to see him at this shop for yet another piece. I have collected 5 pieces from him since 2016. I consider Alex to be a collaborator and a partner in this process. He works with my idea and turns it into his vision. He is a natural and a prodigy. My last two pieces have been freehanded with a sharpie in the Japanese style, and they are each nothing less than a masterpiece. Thank you Alex. read more

This shop is amazing, and the artist Justin is even better. I saw pictures of his very detailed work and was excited to see how he made the font for a word I wanted on my arm. The detail. All of the intricate scrolls and tiny lines. The shop over all- very chill, calm, clean, friendly, professional. I see why they say tattoos are addictive. read more

Overwhelmed with joy from beginning to end. I have waited 20 years to get these specific pieces to start my sleeves, I will try and make this short ! From the moment I called the shop and spoke to Natalia, (amazing professional) to my entrance in this shop. Not sure what I was expecting but I've been to several shops in 4-7 states and this was beyond what I could've imagined. The cleanliness, the staff the owner everyone was pleasant to be around. The shop has character, warmth, with a joyful and nostalgic feel. I was willing to wait as long as I needed to because I had previously seen the artists work online. I choose Jose, and my my my JOSE JOSE JOSE!!! It couldn't have been a perfect match if we tried! He was easy to talk to, funny, professional, caring and is a family man, just like I we had similar stories and understood one another. His colleague that sits next him is Carrie she's also an amazing artist. I don't think this shop hires Mickey Mouse and so I trusted his expertise and crossed my fingers, eventually those finger touched my mouth in disbelief!! I was in awe of the work he did. At the beginning I thought it was a lot of money for what I wanted and then I thought I didn't pay enough! I'm getting all my work done with him which will cost a few thousand and he is well worth it! My husband, son, and daughter will be booking with him as well, I will post pictures but remember this was yesterday!! I want to take the time to thank Natalia because I wasn't going to book right away but her detailed explanation and caring about my sunburn it was simple and to the point on what steps to take next and she cared, it wasn't about just grabbing my money. She made it happen, so many times we over look the ppl that make these things happen and give all credit to the doer. In this case, from my stance Natalia made it happen! She is an asset to the shop not sure how long she's been there but she's a keeper! Thank you to ALL of you for rocking it! Black Orchid has taken tattooing to another level, they LOVE what they do and it SHOWS!!!! God bless this shop and all who work within those walls may your hands and hearts be blessed everyday! Thank you J. read more

Went to Savannah for a vacation. Shops with this caliber of artists are usually booked out weeks, sometimes months so I was hoping to get lucky with someone having a cancellation. Super clean shop, excellent customer service. Austen did a fabulous job on my tattoo, a drawn-on, yellow rose of Texas. He definitely knocked it out of the park, the artwork is beautiful, clean line work, and he picked the prettiest colors and blended them perfectly. My particular tattoo was in my elbow ditch. I usually sit pretty well, but had a tough time with this one because of the tender area. He was patient and didn't make me feel embarrassed at all when I got a little lightheaded near the end of the session. Very professional and kind. After three years of looking in the Savannah area, I'm really happy I found him and Black Orchid. I'll absolutely be back! read more

The tattoos came out amazing and we left very satisfied. Definitely, will come back for the free touch up! read more

I have gone to Black Orchid several times over the past three years. Brian Warnekros is my artist and I'm very appreciative of his skill. I get complimented all the time on my half sleeve. I love the feel of the shop - it's always clean, very stylish and respectful to the structure of the building. You can't beat a beautifully converted old Southern home. The artists' non-tattoo artwork typically graces the walls and occasionally they have special themes up (like skate decks, for example). I think it's a great method for sending home the concept that the tattooers are actual artists and deserve that respect. Here's my normal process for a small piece: I call the shop with a general idea in mind and an approximation of when I'd like to have it done. Sometimes this requires a little bit of flexibility with my appointment times, because it's a busy shop. I wouldn't want to go somewhere that wasn't consistently busy. In making the appointment, I pay my $50 deposit for the time slot. This deposit is later credited to my balance. I go to the appointment time with a general idea of what I want. I normally hand Brian a few print outs and point out what I like from each print and then he comes up with something custom that incorporates the parts that I like. I sit, he tats, I gush. For bigger pieces, I generally have a consult and give him the opportunity to sketch in advance. Expect a bigger deposit for a bigger tattoo. I told him once that I was interested in a white ink tattoo - something that could be a tiny bit more subtle. He explained to me that, for most people, the white doesn't stay a true white and instead turns yellow or eggplant. Because he wouldn't want to give me a tattoo that would later be fugly, we tested an inconspicuous spot to see how I held the color. I appreciated that he took the time to do that (fyi, I'm a yellow). All of my other tattoos have held up beautifully and, as I said before, I get tons of compliments. read more

This review is a little belated but they deserve a fabulous rating so I'm doing it anyways! I got a tattoo done here by Marcus Dove back in May of 2010. I had previously been in to talk with him about my idea but I changed it the week of. They require a deposit of $50 to schedule an appointment and of course the deposit went towards your tattoo. I came up with a great idea for a tattoo and when I came in for my appointment, we found a couple pictures we liked and Marcus sketched it for me. I got it on my left shoulder blade. It healed perfectly in 2 weeks and is still absolutely fabulous. I will attempt to post a picture so you can see it. I moved away and now live 4 hours away but when I get my next one, I will be heading back to Savannah to have it done by Marcus! read more

Jose was amazing! The staff was very friendly and Jose came out and greeted me, made me feel extremely comfortable, was so friendly and we had a super cool connection about the tattoo I was getting! He did an excellent job and I left extremely happy. I got handwriting and I was a little nervous about the size and placement and he was diligent and patient in helping me decide and it came out absolutely perfect. I could not be happier he is very talented! read more

After just turning 21, I decided I wanted to get a tattoo. I have lived near Black Orchid for two years and have always wanted to go. We came in for a consultation with the owner, and I left almost in tears. He told me it would be about a two-hour job, but he wouldn't be able to do it for about 4 months. Since it was my first tattoo, I was willing to wait. We sat down to look at other artists' portfolios to ensure we wanted Chris. While looking through, another couple came in the door to also get a consultation with Chris. We overheard the female of the couple talking about getting her tattoo and that she needed it done within the next week. Chris told her it would take him about two hours and that he would be able to fit her in. My boyfriend and I looked at each other, speechless, and left. I still cannot believe that happened, and I am so appalled. I hope nobody else has to be treated this way, especially for their first tattoo. Each customer deserves to feel like a priority. We took our money to Kustom Hustle, where I was a priority. read more

I just got my very first tattoo, I'm 44 so it was a huge deal for me. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The owner, Brooke, was so sweet. Her husband, Chris, was the artist. He helped me pick the perfect design, I couldn't make up my mind. I love what he came up with. He was so much fun! He was very gentle and made sure I was okay several times, which I was. I had one of the best times of my life! The tattoo is gorgeous! I am so proud of it. The young lady at the desk is a hoot! She is very knowledgeable and so easy to talk to. The atmosphere is super cool with fantastic energy! I can't say enough about this place. I would never consider letting another place tattoo me in the future. I will be back with my oldest, 19, to get his first tattoo in the near future. Thank you Black Orchid for such a memorable day! read more

Loved our experience there, especially as walk-ins! Friendly, fast, and beautiful service. I had Austen as my artist and he was great!! Would absolutely recommend instead of the busier shops downtown. Photo is of my work several months later. Holding up and healed really well! read more

Great experience! They were able to take my friend and I in as walk ins. Great tattoos for a very fair price. The receptionist was welcoming and kept a good conversation. I was tattooed by Camden Noir who was so fun to talk to, and gave me exactly what I wanted. The shop is very clean, and has a welcoming atmosphere. The decor is awesome!! Lots of cool antiques and artwork. I will be back soon!! Tried 2 other shops before landing in the gem, honestly the BEST shop in Savannah. read more

Sitting at 17 tattoos. I have work done by Marcus on my left shoulder some simple stuff. Brian has done 6 touch-ups at once, and over the last 2 years he's done 4 large pieces for me-filling up the front of my thighs. The shop has always been clean with a friendly staff. I've had to wait a time or two because the person before me was late or took a few too many breaks lol. Brian is quick and very efficient with details and amazing with the colors/shading. I recommend him to everyone who asks about my work! The $50 deposit goes towards your total cost, but mine has been rolling over for 8 months now! The portfolios show some of their work...I've seen even better as the finished product walks out satisfied! Highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for basic ink to some of the most detailed ideas you can come up with!!! read more

Out of the 3 tattoo shops I have been to, I won't be returning to this one. I went to this place while it was still across from York Hall when I was attending SCAD due to very good recommendations from a lot of people that I know. I'm not sure who the tattoo "artist" was but he spent about a half hour on my tattoo, missed a few spots, and rushed when his lunch arrived. Spent money on a shit tattoo and I won't even come back to get it touched up I was so dissatisfied. I'll probably wait until I visit my hometown and go to one of our good shops there to do it for me. I do not recommend this establishment. read more

LOVE. I have one tattoo done by Chris, which is almost 5 years old and still bright and beautiful. I also have 4 tattoos done by Brian that I love. I bring some semblance of an idea and Brian makes it beautiful. I just let him run with it. He also fixed one of my disasters from another shop. His prices are reasonable and he works in a timely manner. The shop is clean and the atmoshphere is laid back. The shitty attitude that I have come across in other shops is nowhere to be found at Black Orchid. read more

I had an amazing experience at Black Orchid. Austen provided a cool experience all the way through. The work was truly excellent, and for me the collaboration was exactly what I want from an artist. I like to come in with a concept, and then let the artist customize and personalize the ink. Austen was awesome at that. I ended up with a tattoo different and better than I imagined. More than just that he was fun to hang out with, and has great taste in music. The whole vibe and experience was professional but fun. I will be working with him again soon. Mark Parker read more

Black Orchid has provided me with some of the best service I could ever expect from a tattoo studio. I walked in with a solid idea of what I wanted but no artistic talent to sketch it out. I initially selected Marcus Dove to meet with for a consult where I was to describe what I wanted and the style I wanted it in. When I showed up for the consult with Marcus, he immediately suggested I use Chris Autry when I requested a photo-realist tattoo. He said he'd be happy to do it if I wanted it but that Chris was the best when it came to bringing these things to life. I spoke with Chris and made an appointment for the next week. Thanks to work getting slammed, I was forced to show up embarassingly late to my appointment. I called to notify Chris that I'd be late and everything was fine. When I got there, Chris showed me his sketch and got right to work. It took about three hours to finish but that's about what I'd expect for the level of detail I was requesting. We took two 10 minute breaks, which I was grateful for because I was pretty raw. I've received nothing but compliments on the piece and the only people who can't tell what it is are the folks who wouldn't know what they were looking at if they were holding it in their hands (rhubarb and a morel mushroom, for the record.) When my wife wanted to get something to celebrate our first anniversary, she tried to use Chris Autry again but he was booked solid. Being that her piece was smaller and significantly more simplistic, she felt safe using Chris Harris, as he had a good portfolio as well. She's quite happy with the results. Prices are fair and service is exceptional. I'd recommend these guys to anyone. read more

I have been to Chris Autry twice in the last 3 years, and I have been so happy with the results and the treatment I get from him. I had him take a tramp stamp and turn it into a back piece with only the instructions of "something to go with what's already there, and no color." Horrible, vague instructions, I know, but Chris produced a piece that was exactly what I wanted. Later, I had him design a cross for my grandfather (his last name was "Cruz"), and it was perfect--not too plain, but not too girly, either. . I have had friends who have had work done by other artists there, and their pieces look great. I highly recommend Black Orchid to any and everyone! read more

While Josh's artistic talent is apparent, the studio itself is not necessarily the best. Josh gave me no after care instructions for my tattoo, and as such, it is very aggravated and raw. I ended up asking my other studio for a copy of their after care instructions. I'm just hoping to avoid infection at this point. Prices are a lot higher than I was expecting, but the artists are all friendly and patient. Just make sure you have after care before you leave the studio! read more

I read a post form Kelsey saying she never got a care sheet and the price was too much , NOT TRUE we both got instructions from Mags and than a written copy with free A&D ointment , The price was fair for the work done we would have not blinked an eye if it was more !
