let me begin by stating that I have been waiting for the craft beer revolution we're currently enjoying, to properly arrive the NYC-metro surrounding area, which imo, includes BHG. I used to drive across the GW Bridge as a wee lad w friends & make our way to the then sleezy, sketchy part of the Lower East Side & belly up to the bar for forbidden fruit that could not be found anywhere in white-bread Bergen Cty, NJ, Pilsner Urquell, Smithwick Ale, Wadworth, Hacker Psorr, Paulaner, Cerna, to name but a few. But it wasn't until I moved to Seattle in 1990 that I 1st learned that we here, in the USA, were brewing up some very tasty foam. And that goes for the Portland, OR scene of the time & many towns in Colorado and of of course, California. It has taken 20 yrs for this trend to finally make it to my neck of the woods & my general opinion of what I have thus far sampled can be neatly summed up as "meh". Once upon a time, NYC & its surrounding MSA region used to be on the cutting edge of many, many trends but that has not been the case for years & years. So it is w craft brewing, which is now as mainstream as any fad. And once something goes mainstream & fadish it becomes a commodity for the me-too, jump on the bandwagon set to see an opportunity to ring the cash register w the unknowing masses who never craved a better beer, probably would still be quite happy to drink their InBev-Anheiser-Busch or Coors swill but they have heard that craft beer is happening, so they go to their local"brewery" w its catchy name & interesting hop selections & voila you have Black Hog Brewing. Line out the door, rude service, sorry pal, we're too busy to smile or show any grace b/c can't you see were too busy making money?! I saw plenty of flight glasses but when I asked for a flight I got a gruff "only pints today for the local dog charity or whatever it was". So I came w 2 empty 1/2 growlers wanting to sample a few of their beer but was not about to order 6 pints b/c they could not accommodate me TODAY!! Returned to my table where my wife was holding a stool for me, told her what had just gone down at the register after queuing & the old couple (65yrs +) sitting across from us, who were eavesdropping, asked "what's a flight?" That was my cue to exit, stage right & never return. This is nothing more that a bunch of posers looking to make a buck jumping on the craft brewing train. you want GREAT CRAFT BEER?
