Overall my spouse and I had a…read moregood experience while here as our server was incredibly helpful and courteous, and we enjoyed majority of what we ate because we're both avid soul food lovers. We ordered two plates, and tried both the fried livers and the fried gizzards, and both were very solid with good seasoning and good crisp. We also thought that the mashed potatoes, candied yams, and the rice & gravy were all very abundant and seasoned very well. The peach cobbler was also a hit with the right amount of consistency and sweentess. The beignets were a pleasant surprise because we had never tried them with honey and after trying it that way, we could be down with it. On the other hand, the shrimp with grits had extremely plain grits and extremely salty shrimp, and mixing them altogether definitely made the dish tasted more balanced but it didn't change the fact that the shrimp was still salty and the grits didn't catch too much of the salt on the shrimp. The fried okra had soggy outer shell. The gumbo was a bit watery and didn't have enough roux, and the rice included was soggy which seemed like it was out for a while and heated up. Aside from food, it was worth noting that we were initially placed on the list and were told that we'd receive a text upon a table ready, and unfortunately we never received one, despite seeing people that came in later getting tables. After we went back inside 30 minutes later to see what happened, they didn't give us an explanation, but managed to get us the next table. This anecdote made us confused when we first sat down, but we decided to no longer worry about what happened and was in a mood ready to dine.

I used to review restaurants for a daily newspaper, so I know how to be critical. The trouble with Judy Boone's is that there's nothing to criticize; except for maybe the wait which is justified. We were there for BBQ night, with our 19 and 22 year old sons. My youngest left a pile of rib bones as high as his head. My oldest discovered that he really likes fried pork chops and proceeded to eat four. I had popcorn shrimp, fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, pulled pork, green beans, chicken bog, sweet potatoes and later peach pudding. Each was extraordinary; not just extraordinary, the sort of food that makes you gasp and how amazing it tastes, each commanding your attention and demanding to be your new favorite. I can only assume the chefs here are wizards. Our server was warm and friendly without being obtrusive. I think that's a tough line to walk. The decor is charming and evocative. There's just something magical about it, especially as a man from the north. Maybe this is all normal for South Carolina, but I suspect not. Locals are so lucky to have this in their area and me and my family have found a new vacation 'must stop' for future trips to Myrtle Beach.

It consisted of 2 deep fried soft shell crabs, 3 deep fried jumbo (and yes, they were actually jumbo) shrimp on top of a bed of various deep fried vegetables. Although the entire dish was deep-fried, it didn't feel heavy or greasy. And the batter chef Bo made mad it all sooooo flavorful! I ordered the granddaddy's grilled cheese. It was a very different take on grilled cheese, but also absolutely delightful!! I believe you can't go wrong with bacon and fig jam on sourdough bread. And for my side, I wanted something a little different so I ordered the sweet potato grits. Do yourself a favor and try them! They are rich and creamy and sweet but not too sweet... Perfect! As delicious as all that was, the showstopper was dessert. We had the lemon blueberry cake. There are not enough words to say how delicious this was! Dense, sweet, but also tar from the fresh lemon with fresh blueberries baked in with a perfect layer of cream cheese icing. I wanted to order another one just to take home. And if the food wasn't enough to keep us coming back. Our service was absolutely amazing. Rachel was our server and she was a rockstar!!! She knew the menu very well! She made amazing recommendations and was attentive and friendly and all-around wonderful! As an added bonus, we were seated in the perfect corner booth for date night. We got the fried okra, the mashed potatoes, the mac and cheese, green beans and fries. For the additional side it is $2.99 a person. Honestly, I felt the sides were so tasty & better than some of the meat dishes. The fried pork chop and the chicken and dumplings were not a hit at our table, but we did devour the fried chicken and get an extra order of ribs. We had no idea that this was a bottomless refill, but I don't know how anyone orders more than one extra entree because the portions are huge and quite filling. We were lucky to get a table close to the window so we could have a nice view. All of the workers were courteous & kind. If you are super hungry & have a larger party, you have to come here at least once, while visiting Broadway at the Beach. They also brought out biscuits to our table while waiting for our food, and those are hefty and warm. Hooray for another good Southern eatery during our visit to Myrtle Beach.
