Came here during a trip to Burly to see our catamount. She loves Black Cap so we decided to try. She had a chai tea latte and my husband had a coffee. They each had the crumb cake, I had the coffee cake. Large portions enough to save for later or the next day. All was fresh and very good. Only negative from husband (I don't drink coffee) is that it was on the expensive side for what it was. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute cafe vibe, pleasant workers![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Black cap makes good lattes and has an interesting assortment of pastries and food offerings for a variety of dietary restrictions. The baristas are always friendly and the vibes are very gentle and quiet. The lunch and breakfast sandwiches are pretty good-- I think they're probably better on the regular bread instead of the gluten free bread, but I like that they offer gluten free bread. They also offer beyond meat sausage Patties which is great. The chia mango puddings are always a great choice. And i love the seasonal lattes they offer. Employees have always been very excited to give me a pup cup for my service dog. Usually they are respectful of boundaries, however one time an employee took me ordering the pup cup as an invitation for them to interact with my SD. They came around the bar while my back was turned and offered him a pup cup while I was ordering-- without asking or acknowledging me.My service dog was actively working, and it's not cool to distract him. I think adults in any type of dining establishment should know not to mess with service dogs.

Located on Church Street in Burlington, expect this place to get busy. We went in a lunch and the line got long very quickly. I had the maple latte, which was pretty decent. Also, I ordered a BLT. It was decent, but the bread was very toasted and scratched my mouth. It's just too crispy and hard, and it came to my cold already. My best part was the maple croissant. Flaky and just enough sweetness. I did agree with the other comments about they putting their food in the microwave. This looks very bad and a big minus. Please replace it for a toster or something better for your health. I mean, come on, you are in Vermont. You can do better.

I was here in Vermont for work and went downtown and I like trying local places and tried this place, I like to try teas out for my stay at any place I go to, I don't like coffee but their chai tea was really good. I also got some bakery items as well, the carrot cake was so delicious and moist. The staff was very friendly and it was a clean place. It's so pretty here in Vermont

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Blackcap, as you walk in, is filled with a homey feeling you'd get in authentic baked goods shops with an almost immediate "hey how are you" from the cashier.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They take ample time to connect with you on a personal level which makes the experience much better -- their food is amazing, even if a little bit more on the expensive side. Highly worth it! You can customise your coffee even further at their customisation table (utensils, and syrups)

My girlfriend and I stopped in here one morning on our weekend get away to Burlington. We each got an iced coffee which was great, she got a breakfast sandwich and I got a breakfast burrito. The food was good and it was fresh which is great. The service was also good but I will say I feel like they need some more support. Shortly after we ordered we looked back and there was almost a line out the door. It seemed they only had two people working. One had gone to make the food that we had ordered and the other was taking ordered and trying to keep up with making the coffees as well. The servers themselves did nothing wrong and did great with the manpower they had but I did feel bad at the fact that they seemed so busy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was nice and serves as a nice coffee shop/bakery and was the perfect spot to grab a bite and coffee and warm up on a chilly winter morning.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The sandwiches we got on the first day in Burlington were tasty. The ingredients were fresh and the sandwiches were a good size.

We got into Burlington around 4 and walked over to Black Cap for a couple sandwiches before heading down to the lake. It was a Monday about 5pm. I wanted The Dope (applewood smoked bacon, tomato, cheddar, and guacamole) but they ran out of guac. No worries, I ordered the BLT & C (a BLT with cheddar and mayo). My husband had the Classic Grilled Cheese. The service was good and quick. We ate outside in their lovely seating area, enjoying the fresh, tasty food. We liked it so much, we decided to have dinner again the next night (Tuesday) trying other sandwiches. However, when my husband walked in to order at 5/5:30pm, he was told "We're not serving sandwiches at this time." Now, this place is open until 7pm. Their website says lunch is "available all day." So we were disappointed and never went back during our trip. I'd recommend this place as long as you can find sandwiches being served.

Black Cap Coffee & Bakery was the perfect breakfast choice for a Sunday morning! We got the breakfast burrito and a breakfast sandwich and both were great! They were also perfect portions when looking for a smaller breakfast for on the go or simply not to eat too much for your morning meal. We shared an almond pastry that was light and quite delightful, along with a drink special that was equally adored. It was slightly busy when we arrived but ordering was easy, everything was ready within 5 to 10 minutes. We were greeted when we walked in the door and the staff was helpful and kind. There are limited inside tables for a couple of people to share, and lots of outside space depending on weather. It's an easy recommendation to make for me. Enjoy!

Amazing quick stop for coffee and snacks. The flavors they came up with are very interesting. I loved the banana bread here. I highly recommend this place.

A no laptop policy keeps things flowing and encourages folks to talk vs work. Breakfast menu is available all day while lunch starts at 11 and goes until close at 3p. We tried a few things: * croissant - super flaky and perfectly made. * breakfast sandwich - with sausage. Buttery and crispy edges toast with fried egg and melted cheese with sausage. One of my favorite breakfast sandwiches ever. * banner eighteen - a play on cheesesteak with broccoli mushrooms and shaved steak in a sesame hogie. This one had slight spice and a slight taste reminiscent of a combination pizza. It's a big sandwich and quite tasty. * oatmeal raisin cookie - not too sweet which I loved. Chewy. * fresh baquette. Bread . . . . . * maple lemonade - slightly sweet with a good bit of tartness. It was good! I'd definitely comeback here if I'm craving some sandwiches

We tried the eat the east breakfast sandwich ($11) and the vermonter sandwich ($16). I especially liked the vermonter sandwich and the bread it came on. The cafe also sells various bread items and baked goods. One thing to note is that since the cafe is counter-serve, seating is also first come first serve. We were able to snag a seat right as someone left, but for that reason I would recommend coming at a less peak time if able. August First is deservedly a busy spot in Burlington and I would be there often if I were a local.

It wasn't very busy--no…read moreline when I arrived, and most people seated already had their food--so I was surprised that my sandwich still took about 30 minutes to come out. I had great expectations because of reviews and I hate to leave a negative review on popular places. The cashier/server was friendly, and the place has a classic small American café vibe, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the food really missed the mark for me. The "crispy cheese" just tasted burnt rather than crispy, and there were way too many greens--cilantro and parsley--which completely overpowered the sandwich. I also didn't care for the sauces at all. Overall, it wasn't a good sandwich. I didn't even finish it and ended up going somewhere else to eat. Between the long wait and the disappointing food, I don't think I'd come back.

The menu is a little chaotic and hard to read, but I did my research beforehand and knew I probably wanted the brakefast sandwich. Luckily Nate ordered the special number 8 and my friend got the basterd bing, so we all kind of shared. Everything is vegetarian! The employee taking our order was super friendly and kind, very much appreciated! We also got some coffee drinks and a donut to share. The donuts are made with biscuit dough, which was interesting and tasty. The texture is quite dense but not dry. Our food was ready quickly and the portions were large - you could definitely share something if you're not super hungry. I need to take a moment to talk about the number 8 sandwich. It BLEW MY MIND in the greatest way ever. I LOVE when I eat foods I've never had, even more so when those foods are delicious and mind-boggling. This is a breakfast sandwich on a tasty sesame bun and it features chicken fried egg. So imagine a pile of scrambled eggs that they somehow deep fry(???) and it turns into something that so closely resembles fried chicken it's wild. Seriously I'm still thinking about this sandwich. I know it sounds so weird but really you just have to try it. The brakefast sandwich was good, but VERY MESSY. Plan for lots of napkins. I will be back for the number 8.

This was mainly due to the great service and delicious meals ordered by each of us in our family of three. Our table was never left waiting and the food was served hot. Everything was made with original flavor additions such as homemade sauces, fresh breads, and unique use of herbs and spices. Lastly, I was told to mention that the hand cut fries were exceptional. Since we visit Burlington often, we look forward to returning to the Farmhouse to try other dishes on their menu or just ordering the same meals since they were so good.
