Overall, the experience at BKLYN House was good. The staff were very friendly and nice. We had an issue with our reservation because we were told we could check in early, but when we arrived, the rooms weren't ready. They had us waiting for a couple of hours. Our room was also short on towels, and missing a trash can and iron. During our stay, everything else was amazing. It was definitely a nice place to stay. We were just a 3-minute walk from the subway station. There's also a pharmacy right in front, which made it super convenient. I would stay here again without issues if they improve the communication about early check-in.

This ghetto chateau is an absolute abomination. A scam and a sham. Reserve here if you have no standards. There are so many issues including the short list here: - several guests waiting to check-in upon arrival. - one lift for whole building. - funky smelling lobby. - stained towels. - stained sheets. - fridge and phone not working. - view of the literal projects next door. - no drinks for sale. - poorly finished rooms (paint job is trashy). - staff is not staffing much. - filthy carpets! - not enough "do not disturb signs" to hand out. Like how? Is anything good? Not enough to compensate. - bed is cozy - location is central in BK Do not support this with your hard earned dollars. They need to close. Pack it up and move tf on. 0 stars for this sh*t show hostel.

Literally the only beverage option in the entire hotel. Note that there are no more cups.

-our room had no toilet paper -our room had no soap -our room had non-working power outlets -the bedside lights are horrible, SUPER bright 5000K daylight LED bulbs (why) -the hotel has no food or beverages besides a dingy water machine in a cellar and a vending machine full of overpriced candy/chips -the water machine doesn't have cups to drink out of. Bring your own cup -the "breakfast area" is a sad underground cellar that seems to have been completely abandoned and forgotten about by management and currently serves no purpose other than storage -there are way better lodging options in the area for significantly cheaper This hotel is very clearly pinching pennies anywhere it can by cutting out essential guest toiletries/basic conveniences/complimentary necessities and it overall feels like a sad, empty building with zero hospitality that does a good job of looking cool and hip in photos. We actually have stayed here before (pre-covid) and the hotel had tons of creature comforts and even had craft beers that you could buy and take up to your room, and the common areas were actually really cool places to hang out and chill with fellow travelers. None of that was true this time. It now feels like a place that is under new management trying to turn it around financially by cutting out every expense that it can, or it's been run into the ground and last-ditch cost cutting efforts are in place to stop the bleeding. Something is going on here and it's not good. It reeks of a failing business or cheap owners who don't care about guest experience despite being in the hospitality industry. The rooms themselves are clean and decent enough, the beds serve their purpose, but it's a major red flag when you go to sit on the toilet and learn that you have to call downstairs for toilet paper, or go to wash up in the shower and squeeze the wall-mounted Dial soap dispenser and just get a puff of air instead. Not cool. Do not stay here, it is not worth what you pay (we were in at over $350/night and we were frankly extremely ripped off). We were super, super disappointed and will not ever come back unless reviews start coming in that signal changes being made. Avoid unless you have no other options. To the ownership: spend money on the guest experience. You *have* to invest in the guest experience. It's your livelihood. Your business lives and dies by it. Little things like free snacks and good beverage options (especially beer/wine for purchase to take to your room) goes a very long way in this industry. Your competition is stomping you.

I stayed here this past weekend for AfroPunk. I'll make this easy for me by listing the pros and cons and elaborating in detail where important. Reference photos attached. PROS: 1. Location (super convenient)- I see a lot of negatives comments of the location but it was cool to me because if you ever wanted to be around everything and I mean EVERYTHING, then the location is solid. Within 2 minutes, up the block and around the corner you have a currency exchange, Walgreens, tons of fast food (Popeyes, Chipotle Burger King etc.), Starbucks, train access and so much more. Because of the the area is congested af at all times but I prefer it no other way. 2. Bathroom Water Pressure & Temp- more times than not when I've traveled anywhere, bathroom water pressure was low and temperature was barley warm to cold. Not here- showering was comfortable, the water gets hot and the pressure is consistent. 3. Hotel & Room stuff- Nice and ample lighting in the room. Bed is comfortable with clean bedding. Loft-style room, which is cute. This hotel has the best window covering. The roller shade blocks out light completely, if that's what you want especially for a morning after hangover. The outside of the hotel is fun with lots of art and colorful with cool benches to chill and/or take pictures at. There's bag storage in lobby for guests so if you arrive early you can leave them and hit the streets or if you have a later flight, you can still leave them for a little bit after checkout and come back for them. CONS: 1. Location- I know this was a pro but I had to mention this one flaw. There was a previous review regarding a guest whose car got broken into across the street from hotel. Well, while sleep Sunday night I recall a car alarm going off but I was too tired to get up and see what happened. The next morning, while doing my makeup in the window, I see a guy with NYPD because his range rover was broken into and putting 2 and 2 together, it was his car that was going off. Later, while sitting in the hotel's cafeteria, he and some other guy were also in the caf talking, trying to see if anyone saw anything or they have any information. 2. Elevator- raggedy, it does whatever it feels like. I eventually began taking the stairs up and down to and from 4th floor. I was not risking getting stuck. 3. Room Stuff- I stayed in room 402 and the toilet did not have a seat cover...so it was annoying having to be extra careful to not have my belongings falling from sink into the toilet. There was no shower curtain so the floor easily got wet. That can't be good overtime, I'm sure. If it's a cost factor, maybe a curtain made from recycled materials could be used in all rooms. The room floor was a little dirty, though I bring slides every trip to walk around in, I suggest making sure, if you're staying here to have house shoes or something in your luggage, not socks an actual shoe. All in all, it's a boutique hotel so you get what you pay for and it's honestly super affordable and worth it for a short 2-3 day trip. The staff was nice. Also shoutout to the rooms manager Marcus, he's amazing, accommodating and dresses cool- he's a pleasure. The photos of the community area and lobby does not represent what it is now- I hope it goes back to that. It would certainly give it a more organized, open and welcoming appeal. A tip for future guests would be to check your room thoroughly and if there's anything you need (extra rolls of toilet tissue, towels etc) make a list and get it stocked right away and if you're unhappy with your room, let them know they will accomodate you! I'd give it a 3 out of 5 stars because it was not terrible at all- just small improvements would make it amazing.

Motion sensor?

Ok experience - wish I'd done a little more research first. Location: not a particularly nice area, but I didn't feel unsafe at first. Within half mile of several transportation access options. There is not good shopping or food in the immediate area, you will have to walk or take transportation at least a few blocks for more options. The third night when I was walking back to the hotel there were about 10 various emergency vehicles in the surrounding block. After very little research I found some articles detailing the housing establishment across the street. Known to be one of the worst projects in the city with multiple murders 2018. Room: clean enough - no concerns with cleanliness. Housekeeping came as expected and performed standard services to expectations. Loft industrial style of decor is modern, recently updated, and appropriate for city life, but it is not exactly warm/homey if that is what you are looking for. I was very uncomfortable with a motion sensor being in my guest room on the 5th floor. I ended up covering it with a towel because I was not comfortable with thought of being monitored. Staff: standard service, generally friendly. When I arrived my reservation had been erroneously cancelled by an employee on the day I was supposed to check in. She was apologetic and was able to reinstate my reservation, but this could have ended poorly had there not been vacancy. Hotel itself: the bright colors and art around the building are fun. I did not take advantage of the free breakfast and can not speak to it. Elevator a little raggedy and slow. Overall value: It will be difficult to find something this spacious and clean for similar value closer to the city. Despite this I likely would not stay here on my own again or with children after reading more about area - I'd fork over the extra for safer neighborhood.

My wife and I got delayed flying out from JFK so we decided to give this hotel a try. It's a really cool story boutique hotel that someone has clearly put some thought into. Each floor is decorated with murals and graffiti from local Brooklyn artists. The rooms were clean with nice finishes and basic amenities, no hair dryer in our room. Some creative storage solutions, funky furniture and a decent view. We were up on the eighth floor facing Manhattan and you could see the skyline. The bed was quite comfortable and very clean. When checking in, the staff was very friendly and helpful. We were very impressed. Overnight a fire department hose line burst in one of the stairwells right next to our room flooding just about every floor below us. I called the front desk and they tended to it quickly, calling the fire department to shut it off. It was a crazy freak incident to no fault of the hotel or staff and they took it in stride so good on em. If we find ourselves in Brooklyn again, we'd definitely give this place another shot.

The rags used to clean up the room
Naomy D.

First thing when I walk through the doors, musty, smelly, small. Not even 5 min Into the hotel room and noticed so much filth. We called room service to clean the floor and it was an absolute jaw drop the difference between before and after they cleaned it. Although service was good, it's still not worth it. The room was mustier than the hallway! It's as if no one stepped foot in that room for a good year or so. Save your money for a different and better hotel. This place is a Complete dump.

Being a Hilton Honors member made check-in a breeze, and I was even gifted complimentary water upon arrival, which was such a thoughtful touch. The room itself was clean, cozy, and perfect for a short stay. The view from my window was amazing especially at night and I loved how quiet it was, making it easy to fully relax after long days out. They also have great amenities like a gym and a breakfast buffet every morning. The waffle machines, fresh fruit, and coffee were definitely highlights and a great way to start each day. If you're walking here at night... *shrug* you might feel unsafe. The front desk area is encased in some type of bullet proof glass/thick plastic... And the security guard sits across from the front desk. So they either have been robbed or own a bodega cause it has that same feel. (IYKYK) front desk guy barely said anything beside "ID and credit card" they make a copy of your ID, you sign a form that you're ok with them charging your card for incidentals, and they send you on your way. He didn't tell me what room I was in. He just wrote it on the key card. O_O. Grade A customer service. Ok. Cool. There are taped up print outs about noise, a smoking fee you'll be charged X amount if they catch you... PEOPLE ARE ABSOLUTELY SMOKING IN THIS PLACE. They may rather you not but that fee ain't stoppin nobody. (Someone randomly walked down the hall last night spraying spray to rid the smell -- it didn't.) There are Rules about how many people are allowed in what type of room. Which gives the impression that it probably gets wild during the spring/summer. The room it's self is cool. Everything seems clean. Everything has wear/tear and seems/is worn. The walls are INCREDIBLY thin. (The guy in the room next to me is currently talking on the phone about doing shrooms, bougie b!tches, and his mans needing to get his drivers license) is he in the room next to me or is he sitting in the couch in this room? The volume is about the same, might as well be a 3 way call with all of us. Would I stay here again? Probably not, but I wouldn't throw a fit if someone else booked it for me/us either. I said I don't think that is going to work for me as it was 90 degrees that day. I was told in hard to understand English that there were fans put in the room. I was also told he could offer a 30% discount. I went up to check the room and when the elevators doors opened, it was even hotter on the 3rd floor. I checked the room that did have fans but all it was doing was blowing the hot air around. No human could possibly sleep in those conditions. I went back downstairs and told him that wasn't going to work for me and my wife. I requested a refund. He refunded my $100 deposit and advised that I had to reach out to their on-line booking company to refund the reservation. It would have been a nice courtesy to get a phone call or email advising that the AC was out in the whole building before I drove 6 hours expecting a cool room to sleep in. I spent 2 days getting the run around from their on-line booking company only to receive an email refusing to refund my money because it was past the cancellation date. Check in was pretty easy, Kai was as accommodating as she could be and checked for any upgrades that could be applied. My room was very clean. Anyone's who's had the pleasure of engaging in business travel knows that it's long hours getting to and from the job site, not eating Michelin star meals but more often at chain restaurants, and of course, not staying at the Ritz Carlton...but at places like TownPlace Suites in Brooklyn. I just finished up a multi-week stay here for a big project. It wasn't terrible; but also not amazing. I'm a Marriott loyalty member, so I try and book at these properties if given the choice. Located in the Gowanus/Park Slope neighborhood, it is conveniently located a 2-3 min walk from the Union Street MTA stop; which is good since there really isn't a lot of parking associated with the hotel. The Good: * Central location - My NY office was near the Barclay's center, so I walked daily to and from the hotel. And it is within a 15-20 min of the always Park Slope neighborhood replete with trendy restaurants and shopping. And being near a MTA stop is a HUGE plus since it also made getting to NY Penn station easier. * Included breakfast - It's not anything fancy, but it's nice not having to spend any Per Diem on breakfast. Surprisingly, the coffee is flavorful and strong. In additon to dairy creamers, non-dairy (Oat and Soy Milk) creamers are also provided. Otherwise, it's the usual assortment of pastries, cereal, and hot items like sausage/bacon, powdered eggs, etc. Again, nothing fancy but it's nice at 6:30am to just hop on the elevator and be able to grab breakfast without having to leave the hotel. * Room layout - Upgrades to this property include Container Store branded Elfa shelving in the closet. This proved more helpful that I thought since I was able to place my roller bag at waist level for easy sorting; and hanging suits and other clothing was convenient. As usual, for business travelers, an iron and mini-ironing board are also provided. Bathroom was clean and the shower had good water pressure with wall mounted body wash, shampoo/conditioner. Kitchenette with microwave and sink was also handy. You can request a mini-induction cooktop if you want to prepare any food. * Daily housekeeping - This "perk" seems to be rapidly disappearing across hotels. It was nice to have housekeeping refresh towels, come back to a made bed, and trash emptied. * Fitness center - I used it a few times. Treadmills, stationary bikes and some weights. Not bad if you want to get a workout in. The Bad: * Thin Walls and Door - Many reviews note the "paper thin walls," and I agree with that assessment. As referenced, this is not the Ritz Carlton, so don't be surprised if you "accidentally" overhear your neighbors convos if they're speaking loudly. The hotel has a "quiet hours" policy between 10pm-5am, but I can attest that several nights, inconsiderate guests returned around 1-2am and were quite rowdy which I'm sure awakened everyone along the hallway. * Loud HVAC unit - more and more hotels are switching to the "invidual window HVAC units." I get it. Installing central air heating and cooling units in each room is cost prohibitive. But these window A/C units are so loud that it makes sleeping difficult * Transitional neighborhood - The immediate area is "safe," but a few nights when my colleagues were walking back from the Union Street MTA, there is currently an empty lot where there were some "questionable" people hanging around...and I'll leave it at that. I'm sure in another 3-5 yrs, a high rise selling million dollar condos will be erected. This is NYC, so don't be shocked by the prices. I paid the corporate rate, so my pricing is not representative for what a "regular" customer would pay. TBH, for downtown Brooklyn this TownPlace Suites isn't bad.
