I've visited BKD Bagels a couple of times now - both for breakfast sammies. BKD is located in a really old house in Old Town Leesburg. Most of the parking spots are around back behind the business. The first time I ordered the "People's Champ": Cold-smoked Lox, plain cream, cheese, tomato, red onion, and capers - on a Jalapeño-Cheddar bagel. Overall, a tasty version of the classic - I wish they also added some fresh dill to it - that would have put it over the top. I also would have liked a bit more capers to add a bit more brininess to it. The second time visiting - I ordered the "Hangover," on a Jalapeño-Cheddar bagel: Sausage, fried egg, American cheese, cream cheese, and a hashbrown. Overall - tasty - but really messy to eat. The addition of the cream cheese makes the whole thing want to slide apart as one is eating it. Next time - I'll have them hold the cream cheese and replace it with extra American cheese. We've been here a couple of times and sadly it's missing the spot now. Not only did we wait a while for our simple bagel sandwiches, some of the orders were wrong and the bagels themselves were dry and not toasted, just as we had asked. The staff was also busy chatting about personal affairs, which my family and I clearly heard and understood since we speak the same language, some of the conversations are probably best kept at home. The shop is cute and great for meeting friends, but the bagel sandwiches were not what we were hoping for. I truly hope there's some improvement soon! read more

Came here for breakfast on a friends recommendation. First thing I wanna say is that they have a big variety of type of bagels to choose from which is really nice. They got everything from sweet (such as chocolate chip) to savoury (like spicy everything) bagels.They got different sandwiches and you can pick what type of bagel you want with it, or you can also make your own sandwich. I got the hot and bothered on a spicy everything bagel and it tasted good. I wasn't blown away or anything, and it was kind of pricey. My favourite thing I tried from here was their whipped cream cheese! It's a small shop so there's limited tables and seating, but it's got a very cute atmosphere. They're also pet friendly! After 3 times in a row of getting our order wrong with no apology, and no attempt to correct, we gave up on this place. Only positive we found is the skinny bagel - where they cut some of the traditional bagel width thinner so there is a better filling to bread ratio- we requested this each time for our bagels and only once did we get a skinny cut. Everything else is less than mediocre: "Service" is nonexistent, on the receipt the default tip is 20% and up which we find presumptuous in a place with zero service - they don't even deliver your order when ready - you have to come in again and pick it up! The order process is very disorganized and In the three times we were there recently it was very inattentive to rude. The outdoor area is sloppy, tables are not cleaned on the grass area. The porch/front area would be great for dog owners, but there are only a few umbrellas to block the hot summer sun, which makes it unpleasant to sit there. Just tried BKD this morning! My everything bagel was delicious, fresh and loaded with plenty of that savory "Everything" topping. Several standard menu items, but also an entire build-your-own-sandwich menu board catering to those with unique or dietary tastes. BKD staff was accommodating and efficient and preparing my order. Parking is a little tricky; don't park in the ice cream parking lot. BKD's lot is just past the ice cream shop's lot and offers plenty of parking. PSA: There are tons of threatening tow zone signs in the ice cream lot, so it's clear they're fed up with BKD customers ("NOT FOR BKD CUSTOMER PARKING") parking in their lot. I happened to be in the area during a weekday and stopped by since I heard their lines were crazy on the weekends. I parked in the back and it was really easy. I placed an order for a custom everything bagel with egg & cheese and added tomato & onion to it, which is my go to bagel. The service was prompt and friendly. The aesthetics of the place are cute as well but it was freezing inside and I even went upstairs to see if it was warmer it was not. The bagel itself was really small compared to most places and I didn't think anything special. I'm not a big eater but for $6 or $7 can't remember for just one egg & cheese bagel seemed steep and I think they literally just put one egg inside of it. I usually give my husband half of my bagel sandwiches this wasn't the case. I'm just happy I didn't wait in line for mediocre bagels. They use Upserve by Lightspeed for payment processing. Like Bites (that was in this location before) they need to engineer a better customer flow. It's unclear who is standing in line to make an order vs waiting to pick something up or just looking at the menu. Nice mix of sandwich options including a build your own, but little disappointed that they are focused on Boar's Head meats rather than local farm sourcing. Scallion cream cheese is pretty amazing. And as a former Jersey guy I like that they have pork roll, but not sure how popular that will be here. Everything and poppy bagels are the stars. Please add pumpernickel and rye however. Their overall production game needs to improve. Twice our bagels have been slightly under cooked. They also seem to be running out regularly and they have placed limits, as in you can't get a dozen bagels. That's usually not a problem for my wife and I, but when we had a bunch of family in for Thanksgiving I just got a couple of bagels and then went to Dolce to stock up where there are no limits. Been here more than a few times. It's a cool house turned bagel store. Plenty of outdoor seating plus indoor seating upstairs and downstairs. My only complaint is the bagel size for the price. Honestly I was surprised (in a good way). My dad and I went here on a Sunday morning around 11, so almost lunch, and I was fully expecting a crowd. I was right and there were people eating at almost table so I was excited to see what they had to offer. The menu will not disappoint, there is savory and sweet options, the drink menu is a genius addition to make this spot a little more mature, and the flow of the building works well for the business. I ordered The Hangover (sausage, egg, cheese, hashbrown(!!) and cream cheese on a bagel of your choice) and subbed the sausage for bacon, I chose everything bagel and chive cream cheese. Honestly I should have stayed with the sausage even though the bacon was fantastic- the sausage is a little sweet and really adds a little something to the bagel. Their bagels are boiled then baked I believe, and my dad loved them just as much as I did. He got the same as me but with that yummy sausage. We grabbed 6 bagels, OJ and cream cheese to go and then waited for our food. The wait was a little long but the kitchen was working frantically and they looked like they were have a blast working with each other which was assuring. We got our bagels and ate outside, but they also have an upstairs section that I didn't get to visit yet, and wow- the flavors were amazing and the bagels have a perfect crunch on the outside but soft on the inside. They are the perfect thickness to hold everything in. Only downside is that they're a tad messy to eat so don't bring someone you aren't comfortable eating around lol! I would not go here expecting the most authentic New York bagel experience, but do expect a good breakfast experience. Lots of bagel options and they have a full coffee bar with iced and hot selections. Service was pretty quick especially for a busy Saturday. Coffee was good. It has quickly become overly cumbersome and frankly very frustrating at these two locations as folks huddle in the chaos trying to figure out if the person standing near them is in line to order or has already placed their order and simply waiting for their pager to go off to pick up their food at the counter. They owners emphasis seems to be more on how quickly can we open another location versus focusing on improving customer service n the existing locations. A learning curve for most not so experienced entrepreneurs. Hopefully this will be viewed as constructive criticism taken to heart. Keep making the great bagels and sandwiches BKD. read more

Adding onto my review: I was the last customer of the day 15 minutes before closing. They watched me as I told the clerk I was heading just outside with my beeper and she told me it would take around 10 minutes for the sandwich to be done when I asked. It's a small place so they can look right outside and see me. 15 minutes later, the pager hadn't gone off and the store closed at two and it was 2:01 PM so I went back inside... and the same girl who I just purchased the bagel from (and tipped in advance per the POS system requirements), apparently didn't recognize me from a few minutes before and ran toward me and said "the kitchen is closed!" I told her I was the customer from a few minutes ago, and told her I didn't get the sandwich. And she said "oh" and looked around and there was a bag on the counter and she looked in it and told me that was mine. I told her that the pager didn't go off and I'd been sitting out there--and she just shrugged. And I said "maybe next time when you know someone has ordered a sandwich and it's sitting here, look around and make sure the pager went off." And she just shrugged again and said "that's the kitchen." The bagel itself was fine. I got the tuna melt. I was a little put off that the melted cheese was cold so I guess they make them in advance and refrigerate them, which makes me wonder why it takes them 10 minutes to "make the sandwich" when there are no customers ahead of you, but the food was fine. It just wasn't so good that I would come back, due to the service. (It's not like the soup Nazi, where the soup is so delicious you put up with the service.) read more

The bagels are cooked well, great bite with a crusty exterior and chewy inside. They are a little flatter than traditional NY style, but I think these are Montreal style. For me, I like a salt bagel with veggie cream cheese. Salt bagel: They don't use pretzel salt! It seems like maybe kosher salt or flake salt. The result is a salt bagel that looks exactly like a plain bagel, and tastes almost like plain. There is no crunch to it. Veggie Cream Cheese: I buy bagels by the dozen and usually buy two tubs of cream cheese. I don't get the veggie cream cheese here. I am a traditionalist.. Veggie cream cheese should be scallions and carrots. ( emphasis on period, end of line). Unfortunately, they add peppers and I think they season with herbs too. The cream cheese itself is runny, like a half melted milkshake! I don't know if they thin it out with milk or what, but it is not firm cream cheese. It's not whipped cream cheese either. I typically get 1 tub of their scallion cream cheese, then when I get home I add a block of Philadelphia cream cheese and diced up shredded carrots. Or I make my own with two blocks of cream cheese,scallions and carrots; but it takes a bit for the flavor of the scallions to really have a punch. Overall, the bagels are pretty good so I would not let my review influence if you are deciding to go or not. If I wasn't so particular with what I want, the rating would be a 4 to 4.5 as I think you will like the bagel, and maybe you're okay with slightly runny cream cheese; or you might not even get cream cheese at all. read more

Great location, we doing business this AM and decided to pickup a half dozen to go. Shop is nice and was packed with people seated and eating in. No masks anywhere. I had/always have a mask even though I'm double shotted. OK basic selection of standard flavors, though had sprinkles? Salt was awesome as was everything. Prompt, nice service. Bagels were pricey but to be expected. Reasonably fresh - place I go to in DC does such service that new bagels are always being made so you can get freshly made. The everything bagels are good, I feel like they could elevate them by adding some salty flakes. The people's champ (cream cheese and lox) was good with good toppings with capers, onions, and tomatoes. The turkey sausage, egg, and cheese bagel was good, nothing special. There isn't really much you can do to elevate a turkey sausage,egg, and cheese sandwich without needing to change the name. BKD bagels has a good menu where you're able to customize any bagel with a large variety of bagel choices. The reason behind three stars is because it's a solid bagel joint, but doesn't really stand out compared to other bagel spots.
