I came here a few nights ago for dinner. Firstly a few things 1) they don't take credit, venmo or cash only 2) the restaurant is small and narrow. There are amazing art murals on the walls 3) it's not communal seating as someone else said in their review. 4) the owner is very nice (albeit a little reserved) and will come and talk to you and ask how you liked the food which I think is great. 5) everything on the menu is halal. Ok now on to the food. My friend and I both ordered the burger, which comes with a side of smashed potatoes. It was the best burger I've had in my life. He uses high quality beef and you can tell. The burger also comes with some sort of mint chutney and grilled tomatoes which complement the meat so well. I do have a few critiques but they weren't enough to take away from the 5 stars. 1) we ordered our burgers medium but I would say they were closer to medium-rare. 2) the bread fell apart really easily. It's a substantial burger and the bread was just too weak. I hope he changes the bread he uses. 3) the potatoes that came on the side were super spicy. Next time I will specify that I need mild potatoes. Although $15 may seem like a lot for a burger, sometimes you really do pay for what you get, and I will gladly return here regularly. read more

So far I can recommend the Jani Burger (I don't even especially love burgers, but this one is something else -- so tender and well-seasoned) and the fried chicken sandwich. The latter has the most satisfyingly crunchy exterior. The crisp, fresh fries with homemade, flavorful ketchup are also worth it. If you ask me, it sucked. The place was crowded and small. We waited so long for the food to come. Absolutely NO customer service. You have to get up and order, you have to go get your own napkins and drinks. The only time they do come over to your table is to serve you the food. They added 20% gratuity and honestly, the service isn't even gratuity worthy. The burger was spicy (which I am perfectly okay with) but it only had a top after taste of spice without any salt. Weird much? They have No restrooms! So, if you're going with a toddler or someone who would need to use the restroom, you'll be suggested to "go to the cafe two blocks away." If you are looking for an authentic & unique Pakistani BBQ experience in NYC area..this is it! Every other Pakistani place I have tried in NYC appears to be food which has been out in the open for the day and reheated in front of you. This concept is different where the food is made to order fresh. The meat quality is highest which justifies the price. The menu is simple which is great. I highly recommend lamb chops and the steak roll. The lentil soup is perfect for the winter months. I hope the concept grows and expands to other areas. Went with my family last week. But the place was closed. Went again yesterday. The place lived up to its reputation and the reviews here. The place is quite small. However the food is very good. We ordered 3 burgers all medium well. Two medium spicy and one spicy. My daughter who is very picky loved it. We also ordered a steak roll and the lamb chops all of them exceeded our expectations. I have visited BK Jani a few times now and I feel like I can finally explain what is happening there. BK Jani's proprietor Sibte is the Pakistani host to the BBQ/picnic that you are always invited to. Show up when you feel like it and bring a beer or a bottle of wine with you because, much like any picnic, the point is not to leave as soon as possible. The point here is more akin to what we all love to do with friends at a picnic; eat, drink, and laugh as the juices from freshly made Ameri-Pakistani street foods dribble down our hands. And don't worry, they have wet naps. I have eaten about 1/3 of this menu and I recently tried the burger with smashed potatoes. Often times I feel like places sell their burger based on the other tastes involved i.e. sauce, bun, bell, whistle but Sibte and BK Jani offer a burger that is simple but astounding. This is a "Pakistani" restaurant for white hipsters. The ambiance was that of rowdy, crunchy, midwestern college campus. We waited 40 mins for take-out. The prices are astronomically high for the quantity/quality of the food. We ordered Chicken Tikka OG and it was a single chicken leg with a couple of vegetables on the side. Had dinner tonight with my family and friends from out of town. This place came highly recommended, but I must admit that I was skeptical. The owner of the restaurant greeted us, explained the menu options, and recommended some items. (One thing to keep in mind the owner "Sibte" is extremely passionate about his food, and what comes out of his kitchen, you order your burger well done in this place, he will literally tell you, "No" - and that "Mc Donald's is down the street if you want it cooked that way !"). The lamb chops were fantastic, perfectly cooked and spiced with plenty of heat (note #2, if you can't handle heat / spicy foods, let them know ahead of time so they can accommodate). The written reviews on the wall say it all; this place is a great hole in the wall find. I had the Burger and the owner was kind enough to honor my request of having the sauce on the side just so I could try it ahead of time. The sauces that are central to their dishes are mint chutney and a type of tapioca yogurt sauce.
